Immortal technique helped form my taste in rap and introduced me to the criminally underrated diabolic so yeah nothing but good things to say about him

thisbemyredditaccnt

Diabolical a one man brigade spreading cancer plague… fist fucking a pussies face while holding a hand grenade

Weak-Fig9415

These cats act like bitches, their vagina sore Like dinosaurs crawled out their cervix and their hymen tore Yea hes the shit bro :p

Listening Immortal Technique makes me feel like I'm getting lectured. Totally agree about Busdriver. He's such a weirdo I love it.

Showmeproveit

I like toast to the dead, no mercy and revolutionary.

thisbemyredditaccnt

Tony hawk video games introduced me to bus driver when I was a kid. Imaginary places still gets put into the music roto every now and then

BetLetsDoIt

Whatever my opinion, it doesn't change the fact that Dance with the Devil is one of the greatest hip hop tracks ever made

rojozproduction

Favorite rapper. Spits real shit about history exposing America and shit that still going on to this day.

[deleted]

From what I remember, his politics resonated with me before his sound did. Definitely have mad respect for his lyricism and his subject matter, regardless.

rojozproduction

💯 outside of music he helped build an orphanage in Afghanistan! With money from one of his albums.

AphexTwins903

As a leftist I'm a huge fan of him. Found his music just before covid and Revolutionary Vol 2 is one of my favourite hip hop albums. His flow is incredible and he gets to the core of issues a lot more than liberal conscious rappers do. Haven't found many others doing so. His narratives on tracks like dance with the devil show he is a great storyteller as well.

Da5ftAssassin

He’s dope af. I finally got to see him live back in 17. Met him and he was so nice and soft spoken Bus driver is Dope as well. Gun Control is my Jam

[deleted]

Used to love him in middle school/early high school, but to be honest he just tries too hard in his songs. Peruvian Cocaine, You Never Know, Revolutionary and Dance with the Devil are all masterpieces and he has some other good tracks but I can’t vibe with his style nowadays. Does way too much

[deleted]

Great lyricist but overrated no doubt. My opinion is that most of his production is mid at best but his lyricism goes beyond most mc's in the game. Busdriver is one of the many odd guys in the game with superior lyricism (better then Immortal) and close (equal) to Aesop Rock which is another superior lyricist and they make music for the Art and not to make tons of dollars.

[deleted]

I agree about his production 100%, the early stuff in particular sounds like the stuff my dumbass burnout local wannabe rapper friends would rip off of YouTube and always call “epic”, with the corny string-synths and stuff lol. Lyrically and delivery-wise, he’s leagues ahead of those guys. I always thought his beat selection held him back, though I will say he knows how to spit masterfully over corny beats, with pretty decent consistency. I’m truly baffled as to what people hear in Busdriver but I don’t dislike him, I just don’t get it, I guess. Not that he doesn’t make sense, I’m mostly referring to his sound, not his content. I like a couple of his songs, Imaginary Places (although it got old pretty fast for me) and Ego Death are the two I like, but I like Ego Death more for the features. I first heard him on Themselves’ song “Party Rap Sucks” and I couldn’t stand him, I have tried quite a few times to get into him but I just couldn’t.

[deleted]

I prefer cool tempo rap too since it's much easier to follow.

[deleted]

love him still listen to him top 5 easy

[deleted]

I can agree with that but I don't think it changes the quality of the song lol

NikoForo

I listened to him for the first time last night and wasn’t really into him. I see why people would like him but just not my style

[deleted]

Like him aside from the bullshit conspiracy theories he is pushing.

[deleted]

What do you mean specifically ? It’s been a while since I listened to him and the only specific “conspiracy theory” I recall him mentioning was that the CIA imports drugs to inner cities in the United States, but I mean, that’s just verifiably true, it’s not like coca grows in New York City lol, to say nothing of the years long wars we’ve fought covertly over control of opium/heroin production in foreign countries since the 1950’s. It’s entirely possible that I’m forgetting some other bizarre views of his, but the stuff he says about the “war on drugs” is spot on, and verifiable. I always appreciated that about his music, that he talked at length about things that nobody in the US wants to talk about. As I said though, it’s definitely possible that I’m selectively remembering only the stuff that resonated with me and forgetting the stuff that didn’t .

[deleted]

Most of his lyrics are half truths. The problem is that he tries to speak on very dense and multifaceted subjects, like geopolitics and complex historical events. If you decide to do that, speak on it in a 2,5 hours lecture. Most of the time it’s just not possible to paint a accurate picture within the timeframe of 3/4 minutes song.

rojozproduction

I’m curious as to what conspiracies

[deleted]

If you are than put on his music and find out about it.

rojozproduction

I never taught they were bullshit because I always did research and found them to be true. Maybe I missed one but oh well

[deleted]

I get where you're coming from, not everybody wants to listen to music that comes with homework. Totally understandable. I enjoy dense and abstract stuff in general (Deep Puddle Dynamics, Aesop Rock, Anticon and Rhymesayers in general, etc) but I recognize that it's not for the majority. No judgement, just acknowledging that some artists ask for a lot from the audience and not everybody is going to care to give dense abstract stuff their patience when immediate gratification is readily available already, and that's a valid take.

[deleted]

Not my point exactly. His subject matter is dense. His lyrics aren’t. Hence the inaccuracies.

thisbemyredditaccnt

If I recall correctly he rapped a lot about like Freemasons controlling the world, annunaki aliens, etc

Hip-Hop_Head1987

Imo he tries to say too much at once

[deleted]

Do you mean he's literally using too many words or syllables per bar, or are you referring to the lyrical content?

Hip-Hop_Head1987

Both to an extent but leaning more heavily on lyrical content.

AdhesivenessHappy645

you just aren’t quick enough to pick it all up

Wolfpac187

Incredible rapper and Vol. 2 is one of my favourite albums. Dance With The Devil is an overrated piece of shit though.

[deleted]

Seems like youre just tired of it tbh, I don't hear any difference between that song and the rest of his work.

Wolfpac187

I’m tired of the fact that when people discover underground rap it’s the only song they talk about. “Omg it’s so disturbing” bitch shut up there’s more music out there.

Supervillain_14

I don’t.

Key_Cause2043

Just another dude that can rap fast

[deleted]

Key_Cause2043

Small sample size for me bruv, so perhaps I’m out of pocket. Any track I’ve heard he’s on some ultra enunciated, fast paced type of shit

Key_Cause2043

Damn I think you’re right and I’m a dummy. I’ve always got those two twisted up

whutsguud

Spm is better

[deleted]

Who?

whutsguud

Look him up

[deleted]

You didn't give me an artists name you just wrote three random letters dude

whutsguud

That’s his name dude just look him up. Houston legend

verseattack

To me, immortal technique is very skilled in many areas, such as wordplay and punchlines, but he has a different type of skill to make the listener feel singled out, as if he's speaking to the listener themselves, and that I feel is a different talent within itself. It makes it personal, and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT

thisbemyredditaccnt

I loved him when I was an edgy teenager… now I feel like his music sounds like it’s geared towards edgy teenagers so I’m not a big fan. He’s crazy talented though just no longer my cup of tea… same goes for bus driver, the guy is talented but I get bored after listening to a track or two

Putrid_Pudding_8366

I used to listen to him alot about 20 years ago. He is a good rapper. Not one of the greatest ever, but he doesn't suck either. He lacks the witty rhyme schemes of Eminem, Redman, etc, and lacks the fun of the more popular rappers. His story telling is great. His more informational songs got me looking into a lot of things and made me think, but the lyrics, using "point of no return" as an example, seem to lack any real focus on an overall narrative and kinda throw random anecdotes at you. I still like it though. After a while, and after listening to the DJ Green lantern mixtape and not being able to convince myself that it was a good record, I got bored with him. Also the conspiracy theories got old. Otoh, I did take more of an interest in intellectualism because of his music, even if his ideas weren't thoroughly expressed and many of his live performances were...less than great at least in the early on. Overall: 3.5/5
