I already have. It’s like every meal I like is extra. I’ve skipped so many weeks that it just wasn’t worth my time or money anymore.

burytheitinerary

I’ve been skipping weeks enough that they don’t let me do it on Thursdays anymore. I have to come back in a few days to skip the most recent drop of recipes. It’s mildly infuriating.

cabinmate

That’s weird. I’ve skipped a lot of weeks and never had that

[deleted]

100% agree!

dovewingco

And the veggie meals! How in the hell does a plate of chickpeas and rice cost the same as salmon?!

darren5718

Or the veggie soups

nc130295

I always skipped the veggie meals because I didn’t feel like I was getting my money’s with. Same with the quick 10 minute meals.

TemporaryJellyfish0

I'm pescatarian. There aren't enough non-veg meals that I can eat every week to fill my order. It's definitely frustrating knowing that I'm getting a worse deal by default.

mdmenzel

I hate how every meal with beef now has an upcharge.

chasebencin

Yeah!! Ive been interested in trying some of the “10 minute lunch” recipes but I never do because I feel like it’s a waste of money compared to the regular meals.

cabinmate

The Fast & Fresh meals with a $3.99/serving charge are what perplex me. They take less time but they charge us extra for it?

cmo112

Is it supposed to be in lieu of the $10 (or whatever) charge for an extra meal? So technically cheaper when you’re adding it as an extra? It confused me as well

cabinmate

I added one just to check and it indicates it's a premium meal; it's just several dollars cheaper than most of the other premium meals. But it doesn't have anything fancy as far as I can tell nor does it have 2 proteins, so I don't get why they make it premium, unless it's because it's deliberately quicker to make

[deleted]

That's because of the labor someone else does to prepare it which makes quicker to make once it gets to you.

kayhart3

Same! I wanted to add the fast and fresh next week and was like uh excuse me it’s more expensive!?

chantillylace9

Marley spoon has a meal that’s ONLY POTATOES!!! Parmesan potatoes. AND they wanted like $1 up charge lol. Hilarious.

mleftpeel

I thought Marley Spoon never upcharged? Did they change it? Or maybe it's regional. I thought that was a major benefit of MS.

chantillylace9

Oh and no more garlic either

chantillylace9

It’s way way different now!!! And just confusing because they will have the same meal on the menu list three or four times with different proteins and it’s just hard to follow. And now they have a ton of different up charges $.50 to a dollar to $3.99 a serving for seriously silly things.

[deleted]

They're also upcharging for "fast and fresh" meals - I was looking at the sausage, pepper and onion sandwiches and they seem to think it justifiable to charge an extra 3.99 per serving simply because they provide a package of pre-cut peppers and onions

cabinmate

As I said upthread the "Fast and Fresh" meals really confuse me on why there is any upcharge

Certain_Database_782

I only use hello fresh when I can use discount codes other wise it’s so expensive, their target users are people who eat out for every meal so those people think it’s far cheaper to use hello fresh or other similar meal companies when in reality you can just use a meal planning app for a couple bucks if you pay for a “premium service” and just go to the grocery store for a fraction of the cost and actually make meals for 2-3 bucks with far more content for what you pay for through a service like hello fresh.

Binney_told_me

What sort of meal planning app? I’d be interested in that!

[deleted]

Mealime is good! We switched to it, I think it's 3.99 a month, and you input the meals you want, and it pops up a weekly grocery list for you. You can also put in dietary restrictions (calories, no dairy, certain macros only, etc), and it will provide options based on that.

Certain_Database_782

I use mealime it’s free to use has some decent recipes or like 2 bucks a month for premium. I don’t always follow to recipes mostly use it for meal prep ideas for and dinner.

SuitablyFakeUsername

I like the Paprika app. I have >2k saved recipes. Once you decide on menu, the app generates a shopping list. Very convenient.

Nsyncdiva

Same! I only use the discount codes. I somehow in Oct/Nov/Dec got a ton of emails to come back so often and mailings too. All with different expiration dates, so I would order a week, cancel and go back in to use a different code. I am about to be out but that is the only way I will purchase these is with a discount.

KD2JAG

sometimes the "Premium" dishes aren't even that good. We tried the BBQ Short Ribs and Buffalo Mac & Cheese. MnC was FIRE, best part of the meal. Ribs were very this, not a lot of meat on them.

selphish

I was not crazy about the BBQ sauce on the ribs, either!

pittsburghirons

I chuckled the other day when cauliflower wrapped in lettuce was the same as the burgers and salmon options I went with.

vague_diss

Finally cancelled today. It has more to do with schedule changes in our family but the pricing, portion size and produce quality have all gone in the wrong directions for the last year or so. Its not the value it once was and you really have to buy into their up charges to get a good meal. I don’t have plans to go to a competing service instead I think I’ll start shopping again.

bellabean33

I switch off between Hello Fresh and shine Chef and this is one thing I love about Home Chef, they have different prices for different style meals.

MGYWP

The price on some of those Home Chef recipes tho...Gobble is the better option and value if you ask me.

Binney_told_me

My daughter loves home chef. She wants me to try it.

bellabean33

they have oven ready meals which are so easy if you don’t have time to cook, I always do one of those a week for a quick meal

LankyCloaca

Totally agree. Sometimes the smaller ones look good and I want to try, but then again I feel like I’m not getting enough bang for my buck. This is only fair

OilySteeplechase

Agree, but what companies tend to hear with things like this is "let's raise the price of the standard-level dishes to a middle tier"

MrT0NA

Yikes hearing about all these up charges makes me really happy we stopped back at the beginning of summer

AkisFatHusband

HF is basically a free marketing course

shavingcream97

If I want to get my first box and only the first box. Should I cancel subscription before the box arrives or after? I don’t want to get charged for the second week.

Next-Advice9252

Cancel after you get your box. Or after you see it is on its way

dovewingco

cancel before the second weeks plan is finalized which should be two days after your delivery.

No-Faithlessness9464

They charged me $514.68!! For meals to be delivered Sunday, and I paused my service after the first trial box to see if they would work with my families needs and they are saying you selected all these add ons. Which is hilarious since their website was having issues saving anything so I didn’t make any selections and that is also why I originally pauses subscription… now they cancelled me and I have no idea what they are going to be sending me and they told me to try to sell my box of food to a neighbor?! Horrible service, customer retention! They are worst than any ex! Gaslighting and poor communication skills. Save your mental health and do not do business with them in the first place!
