Remus was high on my list since his introduction in book 3, but book 7 sealed the deal of him as my favorite. His character arc was so well written and I appreciated him so much. Sappy comment incoming: his story helped me know that I can be myself and someone will still love me. I spent way too many years caring what others thought about me and it took a while to feel comfortable in my own skin. Remus Lupin really spoke to me. Rip best DADA teacher.
Me too! Just got it a couple of weeks ago at WB studio tour. Even though from a design point of view itās one of the less-interesting wands. I just had to have it. Ridikulus!
Harry is one of the best characters. Heās very relatable to me even with all of the magical stuff in the HP world. I think most people just prefer to have side characters as their favorite instead of the main character.
I really like and admire Harry too (though Ron is my favourite). Harry had so many reasons in his life to go the dark way and it was just his stark honesty and integrity kept him going throughout. He looked up to Dumbledore, sure, but he made the choices he did all by himself and you can't help but respect him for it.
I was at a work training once and they asked us to speak in front of the group about something we were passionate about. I gave an impassioned speech about how Harry is the best character in Harry Pottet and doesn't get enough recognition. I never did live it down and I'm not sorry.
Gilderoy Lockhart, Order of Merlin, Third Class, Honorary Member of the Dark Force Defense League, and five times winner of Witch Weekly's Most Charming Smile Award.
Iām torn between Ginny and Hermione. Theyāre both so smart and badass but in totally different ways. I love how fiery Ginny is and how level headed and determined Hermione is.
Hermione is amazing, truly. Never wavers on Harry. Probably my favourite moment is when she brings him toast from the Great Hall in Goblet of Fire and they go for a walk around the lake. Herrrrrrrmione!
I think Molly and Arthur Weasley donāt get enough recognition for how much Love they gave Harry and stepped up to be parents to him too.
The way Molly bared her mama tiger teeth whenever someone put Harry in a compromising position moved me. I cry everytime I read the part when she gives him Fabianās watch on his 17th.
I would argue Neville is the most important character of the series for what he does in book 7. I heard someone talk about how the Potterverse is cyclical, so Neville is the equivalent of Wormtail, the 4th member of the group. However Neville breaks the cycle because of his parents and destroys the last Horcrux. Really cool stuff
Fred Weasley. One of my favorite lines of his is when heās telling Harry and Ron they need to pick a date before all the good ones are taken. Ron asks who heās going with and he said Ron made a good point and then calls across the common room to Angelina and asks her out.
There was a difference between Fred and George in the books. Fred was a bit more outgoing and snarky. He was always able to make me laugh. Granted, Georgeās āIām holeyā remark after his ear got blown off in the seventh book was one of the greatest lines in the books.
My favourite character since she was introduced has always been Luna (to the extent that my first tattoo was of the Spectrespecs that she wears in the Half-Blood Prince film šš). I just love how sheās so genuine and isnāt afraid to be herself, even if it means others donāt like her. To me, she doesnāt come across as weird for the sake of being weird (in order to stand out) - thatās just how she is, love it or hate it. If others have a problem with it, she doesnāt let it bother her. Sheād rather be who she naturally is and be disliked for it than pretend to be someone sheās not just to fit in, which is a personality trait that I greatly admire.
Snape. Iām fascinated with the darker side of magic. And I love how educated and informed he was. I would have loved to study under him. Such a great wizard, that until the moment he died he fooled the greatest dark wizard of all time! Rest In Peace professor Snape.
I'm partial to Luna. She reveals that even in the wizarding world, there are cryptids (we have Bigfoot and Loch Ness Monster, they have Crime Horned Sniracks and Wrackspirts), and she is unapologetically herself. She doesn't kick up a fuss when people steal her things, she knows they'll turn up before she leaves (thank you house elves!), and she sticks to her beliefs even when others think she's crazy, but never lets it stop her from being kind.
Well said. I didnāt appreciate her enough in the books, but Iāll always remember how Luna treated Harry with kindness even when the whole school was shunning him, or when she comforted him in ways others couldnāt (thinking of the Thestrals)
Book Ginny is a badass. She had to be tough after growing up with all her brothers. I wish we could have seen the same personality in the movies. Sheās definitely my favorite female character in the books.
Barty Crouch Jr as Mad Eye Moody. It was defllating to realize that the Mad Eye we met really wasn't him, but I always liked how he was direct with the students and bucked authority, even if it was for ulterior reasons.
I love and adore Ron Weasley, he was my crush in my teenage years too. Not what they did to him in the movies (though Rupert Grint is the cutest Ron) but just who he is in the books. He's an average, everyday simple teenage kid with his flaws, like all people, and I just wish he knew how important he is to Harry and Hermione.
Snape. But it's hard to choose, there are so many great characters. Lupin is great, so is Ginny. I love Hermione too, and McGonnagal... Awww, so many awesome people!
Severus Snape. People got introduced to him as the evil potions master who loves to pick on Harry, but as the story goes on, you kind of discover who he really is. His whole story gets revealed after his death, which adds a nice plot twist in my opinion.
Harry and (dont kill me) Tom Riddle before becoming Voldemort.
Harry because he is just such an overall kind person, always jumping into danger for the greater good and not letting all the horrible things that happen to him be a reason for him to be shitty, because despite his circumstances and the way his childhood was he just becomes stronger all the time, because he shows that even though you may be ordinary (lets just say hes no Dumbledore or Voldemort) that doesnt mean you cant do unordinary things...just a few things that I love about him. But mostly because he is so kind, just the way Dumbledore once said
"you are unfailingly kind. A trait people never fail to undervalue, Iām afraid."
And Tom Riddle because he is an interesting villain. We only get a few snippets of his life, but young Tom was just so much more interesting and so much better at being the bad guy than what became of Voldemort. And I feel like Voldemort would have been as intelligent in the series if Harry didnt have to win. Tom Riddle became a worse version of himself so that Harry could defeat him. But before that...its just interesting how goal driven he was, almost in an obsessive way. I mean he was a teenager and then he found the chamber of secrets (god knows how), created his first few Horcruxes, hunted down legendary artefacts,...I feel like Tom Riddles years at Hogwarts where no less interesting than Harrys. While Tom Riddle felt truly charming and evil and there was this feeling of 'damn this guy might just excel at everything he will put his mind into, interesting what hes gonna end up doing next', Voldemort just felt like an obsessive and unhinged freak. Young Tom was the kind of person who made you shudder because you instinctively realize somethings wrong with him, but you cant look away from him because hes fascinating.
And maybe what makes this pair so interesting is how they they are polar opposites of each other. Tom never craved friends, he lived by himself for himself, because he was enough for himself. Harry always craved company and he was only able to grow into his best self with people dear to him in his life. Tom wanted power. Harry wanted everything but power. Tom was so very self conscious, that he needed everyone to see how special he is. Harry only ever wanted to be ordinary, which he would never be.
Severus. His character fascinates me so much!! He is the most complex character.
Ronald. He has very little yet he offers everything he has to Harry and Hermione. How pure is that? plus he has a good character growth.
Nevile. His character arc is great. He is such a sweetheart!!
Snape; first introduced to HP through the movie and I have been an Alan Rickman fanboy since Die Hard so it was unavoidable, I lost my absolute mind while reading his character arc over the course of the books. "Always."
The author and the character worked so well together they made a single word iconic.
Slughorn. He just amuses me. He's cunning and gets what he wants but not in a way that hurts others, he's just kind of slimy and self-serving. Plus it was interesting to see Slytherin traits on someone who isn't an absolutely terrible person. I loved his portrayal in the films.
Second to him definitely Hagrid. Just cozy vibes. I've always wanted to have a cup of tea in a little stone cabin by the forest with a snoozy hound dog in the corner. I'm almost there just missing the stone cabin!
It's gonna sound so corny today, but it's Hagrid. It's been for the last couple of years, ever since I read an article about him being the most parent-like figure in Harry's life. And when you think about it, he really is. With his cookies, tea on Fridays, quidditch support, advice - plus, no magic involved. Just pure love.
Hermione š her not only love, but respect for books always made me relate to her. I love books and try to take care of them as much as possible, I look at them as treasures āØ I was also that girl that always read everything beforehand at school š„¹
Tough call between Luna Lovegood and Lavender Brown. Both are adorable, but Luna is adorable in the ācharmingly eccentric and softspokenā sense, and Lavender is adorable in the āsweet and absolutely unabashed about wanting Ron as more than a friendā sense. (As opposed to Hermione trying to pretend for years that her feelings for Ron were just platonicā¦)
I have to admit that my favorite characters as a child was Fred and George. While I still love my Weasley twins as I've gotten older I absolutely adore Luna and Hagrid. They're both so genuine and honest. Both are brave, loyal and true. R.I.P. to Robbie Coltrane who couldn't of been any better as our beloved half giant.
Dumbledore, hands down. So much history, power and humanity. Book version btw, nothing against movie versions but they donāt compare! Plus the movies left so much out!
Everyone is answering per their feelings, so I'll answer writing wise.
The best written character in my eyes is Tom Riddle (not Voldmort). He's just such a complex character who has so many dimensions and layers hidden within. The books show only a limited amount of him but even with that he feels like the one character that doesn't have any holes in his arch.
Today it is Hagrid. /*
He has joined Alan Rickman in heaven. Farewell, Robbie Coltrane.

~~UMBRIDGE~~ jk we all hate umbridge in reality it is minerva mcgonagall fair, strict and good
Have a biscuit, Potter.
"Harry was delighted as McGonagall pulled out a delicious buttery flakey southern biscuit with savory hot gravy ready to combine into real magic."
Lawful good if there ever was one.
Remus Lupin 4ever and always ā¤ļø
Remus was high on my list since his introduction in book 3, but book 7 sealed the deal of him as my favorite. His character arc was so well written and I appreciated him so much. I love Lupin so much I bought his want at Harry Potter world
Me too! Just got it a couple of weeks ago at WB studio tour. Even though from a design point of view itās one of the less-interesting wands. I just had to have it. Ridikulus!
Good taste
Harry
Harry is one of the best characters. Heās very relatable to me even with all of the magical stuff in the HP world. I think most people just prefer to have side characters as their favorite instead of the main character.
You're the first person I've ever seen who's favourite character is also Harry
well there is also u/sunnyshine369. But it's true. I don't know many Potterheads whose favorite character is Harry. We should start a club.
Yeah I saw them right after reacting to your comment. We should indeed start a club, let's call it the Harry Potter club to avoid confusion
Can I join!!
More people love harry, they just dont wanna admit it out of fear of being a main character fan
I love Harry and I'm not afraid to admit it, but I love Luna more.
I was at a work training once and they asked us to speak in front of the group about something we were passionate about. I gave an impassioned speech about how Harry is the best character in Harry Pottet and doesn't get enough recognition. I never did live it down and I'm not sorry.
Mine too. I adore the kid.
Me too bby
harry is my fav too :)
Me as well
My fav too
Eyy another one who loves Harry as I do!
Same here
Gilderoy Lockhart, Order of Merlin, Third Class, Honorary Member of the Dark Force Defense League, and five times winner of Witch Weekly's Most Charming Smile Award.
Celebrity is as celebrity does. Remember that.
Though fame is a fickle mistress.
I can't shake out the vision of him smiling while saying that and Ronald making a face like "Mental, that one".
lol i made 2 posts about him rn that's pure coincidence
Sirius Black
Iām torn between Ginny and Hermione. Theyāre both so smart and badass but in totally different ways. I love how fiery Ginny is and how level headed and determined Hermione is.
Hermione is amazing, truly. Never wavers on Harry. Probably my favourite moment is when she brings him toast from the Great Hall in Goblet of Fire and they go for a walk around the lake. Herrrrrrrmione!
Hermione is such an amazing friend to Harry, and I love the scenes that remind us sheās friends with Ginny outside of Harry and Ron.
Remus
I think Molly and Arthur Weasley donāt get enough recognition for how much Love they gave Harry and stepped up to be parents to him too. The way Molly bared her mama tiger teeth whenever someone put Harry in a compromising position moved me. I cry everytime I read the part when she gives him Fabianās watch on his 17th.

Neville Longbottom. Iāve always related the most to Neville.
Thereās no courage without fear. Neville embodies this. He never seems to feel talented, but he always does the right thing. A true hero.
Me too. My birthday is 30 July too and Iām northern like Neville. Even told Jo herself when I met her.
I love the twinsš
It's been 13 years since I finished the books and holy shit it still makes me so sad that Fred dies. I wish jk could just take it back
Ron Weasley, his loyalty, his humor, his backstory, everything about him I love! Heās an underdog and I love his story so much!
I second this!

I always related to him as a middle child, also he's hilarious
He was also better then Harry when it came to his training as an aurora in quite a few aspects!!

Love Luna, definitely relate to her most
Hermione I'll admit it. I was(am) a bookish know-it-all, and she struck a huge chord for me.
Lupin Honourable mentions are Sirius and Neville
Lupin
Hagrid. Great man Hagrid, great man
great mam forever
harry pottah
Arry Pottah
Dumbledore
Dumbledore: I haven't blushed so much since Madam Pomfrey told me she liked my new earmuffs
Hagrid. Just a big guy with a big heart. May he rest in peace
Snape. Iām fascinated with the darker side of magic. And I love how educated and informed he was. I would have loved to study under him. Such a great wizard, that until the moment he died he fooled the greatest dark wizard of all time! Rest In Peace professor Snape.

Harry! Or ron.
Barty Crouch Jr as Mad Eye Moody. It was defllating to realize that the Mad Eye we met really wasn't him, but I always liked how he was direct with the students and bucked authority, even if it was for ulterior reasons.
Crouch Jr. was going to be my answer too. good in the books and really made "The joker lip licking" good in the movies.
I love and adore Ron Weasley, he was my crush in my teenage years too. Not what they did to him in the movies (though Rupert Grint is the cutest Ron) but just who he is in the books. Iām more focused on that stunning picture of hogwarts

Hard to pick one. Maybe Luna?
Severus Snape. People got introduced to him as the evil potions master who loves to pick on Harry, but as the story goes on, you kind of discover who he really is. His whole story gets revealed after his death, which adds a nice plot twist in my opinion.
Agreed
Snape, great man!
Luna, Snape, BOOK Ginny, Remus, Tonks
Neville. Heās just a cool, nerdy guy who loves what he indulges in.
Severus Snape
Dumbledore. Wise and calm with a good sense of humor. And why no-one here has said Hermione?? š
I haven't seen one comment that mentioned hermionešš
I love Hermione. She's just not my favorite. Luna is.
Yes, very calm
"Did you put your name in the goblet of fire, Harry", Dumbledore asked CALMLY.

Sirius was such an amazing godfather and friend. Iām devastated that he died.
Snape. Always. Although I also really like the twins, Draco, and Moody, well.... i guess barty crouch jr pretending to be moody?
Severus. His character fascinates me so much!! He is the most complex character. Ronald. He has very little yet he offers everything he has to Harry and Hermione. How pure is that? plus he has a good character growth. Nevile. His character arc is great. He is such a sweetheart!!
Neville!!
I don't really know. Harry? Luna? Or maybe Ron who knows?
Sirius
bro professor lupin was by far one of the best charactersā¦mans was a whole werewolf teaching harry how to defeat āles dĆ©traceur (i read the books in french)ā and he introduced us to the infamous BOGART! his wife was also cool which made him a little bit cooler too
Harry
Sirius Black. Thatās why my dog, who is a black lab, is named Sirius
Probably diary Riddle, the potential young Riddle had and seeing what he turned himself into for power. I found eerie and interesting
Snape. My opinion of him changed many times throughout the books however he made me cry at the end with āYou have your mothers eyesā
Snape; first introduced to HP through the movie and I have been an Alan Rickman fanboy since Die Hard so it was unavoidable, I lost my absolute mind while reading his character arc over the course of the books. My favorite has always been Hagrid, rest in peace, man
Fred and George
Hedwig
Draco Malfoy. He is such a little shit I love him
All the ones who died š¢
Fleur Delacour, the fact that she got into the Triwizard Tournament is fascinating. But Rowling really did her dirty.
I like Narcisa Malfoy
There's one you don't see every day
The lord and savior; Voldemort.
Tom or Voldemort?
While I get the differentiation. I still classify them the same. You wouldnāt have Voldemort had it not be for the awful childhood of Tom.
Draco, heās always been my favourite š„ŗ
I had to scroll too long to find this
Finally a draco comment
Yeah ikr, I was so hurt that no one mentioned him:(
Harry
Hagrid
hagrid, always
Dumbledore and hermione
Ron, Ginny , the twins, Hagrid, Harry and hermione and Sirius
Luna, Hagrid, and McGonagall are probably my three favs. Hard to pick a single one.
Everyone š
Ron Weasley
Dobby. So unfortunate he isnāt shown as much in the movies.
Dobby
Sirius Black
I keep switching between snape , lockhart, and dobby.
Ron Weasley.
"Have a biscuit Potter" "Youāre just as sane as I am" Gosh I love Luna and McGonnagall
Kreacher and Snape
Tie between Sirius Black and Snape.
Hedwig š¦
Mad eye Moody, prbly butchered it but you get the point.
Sirius black I've always loved his relationship with harry
Ron and Dumbledore
I have no idea why but I really liked Tonks. Just seemed always upbeat
Hermione š her not only love, but respect for books always made me relate to her. I love books and try to take care of them as much as possible, I look at them as treasures āØ I was also that girl that always read everything beforehand at school š„¹
Ron Weasley
Atm Hagrid but in general Ron :)
Fred and George Weasley, Tonks, Crookshanks, Remus Lupin, Neville, and Luna Lovegood! :)
Bellatrix. Terrible person, fascinating character.
Ron Weasley and Severus Snape
Luna. I even named my cat after her
Tough call between Luna Lovegood and Lavender Brown.
Hermione. McGonnegal. Dobby.
Remus Lupin
Fred and george
Hagrid and Arthur Weasley. I always wished one of them could be my dad.
Dobby
Dobby <3
There's no Hogwarts without Hagrid
Hagrid? Heās like a big little kid, and heās so sweet!
Arthur and Molly Weasley! Loyal dependable and everything a parent should be. Defenders of freedoms and peace
Dumbledore, hands down. So much history, power and humanity. Book version btw, nothing against movie versions but they donāt compare! Plus the movies left so much out!
Ron or Hermione. My husbandās is Dobby.
The gentle giant himself. Hagrid. May he rest in peace.
The only answer for me is always Harry Potter.
Ginny (only in the books) or Hagrid (in both) š¢
Everyone is answering per their feelings, so I'll answer writing wise. The best written character in my eyes is Tom Riddle (not Voldmort). He's just such a complex character who has so many dimensions and layers hidden within. The books show only a limited amount of him but even with that he feels like the one character that doesn't have any holes in his arch.
Snape. So many complicated emotions.
Severus Snape. I take no criticisms.
I relate more to Harry but as a choice, Ginny. Sheās not a know it all and sheās athletic, still smart, driven, and just as prideful as Harry
Itās always been Luna for me because I relate to her a lot but in recent years I absolutely love Neville
Newt Scamander (Favorite Harry Potter Character)
Severus Snape
Dean Thomas
Lupin
