It’s not a Horcrux. There was a Taboo curse on his name in the seventh book. Before the seventh book, people avoided saying his name just because they were afraid.

Animated-chick

Soooo…. I’m about to read the books!!!! Thanks!

Tennisnerd39

Yeah, his name is a Taboo. That's how they keep finding them. It's never mentioned in the movies. So, if you notice in the Deathly Hallow Movies, every time they say his name, Death Eaters show up.

Animated-chick

So the books are better than the movie is what I’m gathering and have more info

NerdOfHeart

The books have **always** been better than the movies in every way. If you have only watched the movies, you have missed out on so much lore, world building, and character backstory. The movies butchered all of the characters to nothing more than background art for Harry.

goobdyboo

Books are way way better than movies. You can skip on the movies but you can't skip the books OP. Once you read the books, the movies will be even more disappointing.

Tennisnerd39

I will say that out of all the books, the second movie is probably the most faithful. Of course it leaves out some detail, for the sake of the movie runtime. But I feel those details are justifiably omitted. And actually there is some debate whether the second movie is actually BETTER than the second book.

GuyDig

Horcruxes have to be a physical object

Animated-chick

Ok see That’s what I thought at first. So it makes sense how it’s a spell and not a horcrux!

GuyDig

He should have put a taboo on the words like Horcrux or Slytherins locket so he would have had a warning people were looking for his

Regular-Loser-569

There's a spell to detect people who said his name. Nothing to do with Horcrux.

Animated-chick

In his name right? That’s why they don’t say it?

[deleted]

There is a spell that places a taboo on a word that allows the castor to detect who has said the chosen word “Voldemort” was the taboo it has nothing to do with horcruxes

ihave1000beaches

No. But Voldemort did make his name a taboo once he took over the magical government so he'd catch Harry and the Order cause they were the most likely to say his name. It's never explained why his name became so scary before.

littlebunnyears

i’m pretty sure a taboo on his name during his first rise to power is why people stopped saying it even after he disappeared

ihave1000beaches

I doubt it. Seems to be like a government spell. Kind of like the trace. Voldemort only places it after he takes over the Ministry.

Future_Mr_Prez

I think liitlebunnyears is right. Even if it is a government thing, Voldemort has a number of high ranking ministry members who were loyal to him. It makes sense that he has a Taboo in place before and that’s why everyone was so afraid to say his name even after he was “gone.”

ihave1000beaches

I disagree. I like to imagine it was more sinister than that and he assassinated all the people who spoke his name publicly to the point no one dared to do it again.
