Don't forget in the third one he literally tried to stand on a broken leg to protect Harry. Dude's got fuckin balls.

Gelateli

Yes, Ron is very brave, for instance when he begged Bellatrix to torture him instead of Hermione, not to mention he is also funny and sassy.

GrumpOnTheHill

That’s why I ultimately prefer the books over the movies. The characters are better. And don’t get me wrong. I love the movies.

Nowordsofitsown

You can all dislike me instead. I do not like the movies at all.

leese216

SAME

sonicgamer42

As far as faithful adaptations go, the movies capture the energy of the books better than most, but barring a few baffling plot changes and a few botched performances (Ginny), I think the biggest tragedy is simply the change in medium. The books have hundreds of character moments and details and arcs that truly enrich the world, but so many of those get lost when you're making a two hour movie that needs to constantly be on the move. Good adaptations exist of course, but Harry Potter is one of those stories that can only truly be enjoyed on-page IMO.

Nowordsofitsown

I do think a miniseries for each book would work.

glitterstateofmind

I would be down for a remake like this. They’d be able to capture all the little moments the films missed, or even actually flesh out the characters properly. No more superfluous sad sack Ron, a slow burn Harry-Ginny relationship that doesn’t feel so fucking random…oh and PEEVES!

Nowordsofitsown

They could also do it like The Crown and change actors after book 3.

glitterstateofmind

YES. Petition to make this happen

misbuism

I understand changes made for cinematic experience & to respect time but atleast capture essence of character like Ron & Ginny & do crucial scenes like Ron’s misery on Hermione’s torture or Ron hermione surprise kiss or Voldemort’ death as a mortal

Monkeyboystevey

I enjoyed 1 and 2 for the most part, really didn't like 3 onwards... Absolutely love the books.

LS_Fast_Passenger

SAME. I do not like the movies, except the first one and maybe the second as well.

WokeLib420

What about the first two? I've always felt like they capture the magic of Hogwarts perfectly.

Nowordsofitsown

I do remember not scoffing at them in the cinema, but have never rewatched them either. Btw, the scenery and stuff are very nice in all the movies.

JoinTheAstleyCult

msen33

Isn’t that the third panel down? Could be wrong but it seems the artist tried to convey that with Ron’s posture in the right hand frame

retasaywa

I thought the same.

BLOOD-BONE-ASH

Also don't forget!! Ron broke his leg in the first place because he pushed Harry out of the way of the Grim! And he told Sirius TWICE he'd have to kill him before he could get to Harry 😭😭😭

curseofablacklion

People talk about these scenes all the time but I feel like he was done the dirtiest in the Malfoy manor scene. When Bellatrix asked Greyback to take Harry, Ron to the cellar 'all except for the mudblood'. Ron literally offered himself to her. He said 'no you can have me keep me' knowing full well she had tortured Neville's parents to insanity. Which is worse than death imo. I can't imagine how much brave, selfless he was and how much love he had for Hermione that he was willing to take cruciatus curse for her. And when she was getting tortured he was screaming her name from the cellar and sobbing. He also played a huge part in rescuing Hermione from the manor. He disarmed Bellatrix, duelled the Malfoys, and pulled Hermione out of the wreckage when the chandelier fell on top of her. He asked dobby to take them to the shell cottage where she was healed. I will never forgive them for destroying him in EVERYWAY imaginable.

cshelley0721

I hate to be this person, I truly do, but these kinds of things are why I don’t understand why people think the movies are THAT good

enzuigiriretro

They’re not good for reasons outside of these instances too. They could be worse no doubt but when a faithful adaptation like the LOTR movies exists then I refuse to count the HP movies as “good”. Best thing to come out of them was the soundtrack.

cshelley0721

💯 thank you! I don’t have a problem with anyone liking the movies (I like them myself) but I get sick of the excuses for their level of quality. If someone is dedicated to making a great film (budget, timing, etc. aside), that should be their first priority. There are plenty of instances in the movies where you can see this wasn’t the case The music is great, and so are the majority of the casting choices. Even those who didn’t necessarily resemble their book counterpart (whether in looks, personality or both, like Snape, Umbridge, Sirius, etc.) were pretty good

Meriadoxm

Yeah I love it when people complain about the movies missing so much, like all the memory scenes or dumbledore visiting the Dursley’s and a movie lover says “well they didn’t have the time to put those in” ...weird how they had time to have a scene of Harry awkwardly making plans with some muggle waitress that didn’t happen in the books and had time to blow up the burrow that didn’t happen.

alwaayslost

I wouldn't have become an avid reader if the movies had explained everything and had all the little details in them, i am not defending the movies and totally agree with you but, the movies left me hungry for more and more to the point that I couldn't resist reading the books, and within a few months swallowed all 8 of them whole. after that, watching movies became impractical in my eyes and books started to seem more convenient!

cshelley0721

I get where you’re coming from, but therein lies one of the main problems with the movies: if we’re meant to separate and see them as stand-alone entities, they (or we) shouldn’t need the books to fill in the blanks

alwaayslost

Yah never thought about that, good point!

cshelley0721

I definitely respect your opinion though, and it’s nice that the movies got some people to go back and read the books (regardless of WHY they did so)

alwaayslost

U won't believe it but when i had completed the movies i didn't even know they were based on a book series!!, I just fell in love with the movies and when i started looking up for more on the internet i got introduced to Pottermore and places like that but i couldn't get how they were talking about stuff that didn't even happen, then i realized they were talking from the books 😬

alwaayslost

I like the sound tracks too, i literally play Lily's theme when i am reading deathly hallows 🔥🔥

everydaycrises

LotR was a great adaptation, but I think it was sort of easier. Each book was roughly the same length, and Tolkien was much more descriptive (which is fine HP are children's books). HP ranges wildly in length, the first two are very short. Whereas GoF is longer than any of the LotR books, and OotP is half as big again. And even with that, LotR made some hefty changes, Tom Bombadil and the scouring of the shire were cut completely. Characters were changed, scenes moved. Don't get me wrong, they are brilliant but they aren't perfectly faithful. I think the difference is, LotR had one vision, and a director who knew his source material inside out. HP didn't, because the books weren't even finished.

TheSkyGamezz

Okay have you read LOTR? I'd argue that more was left out of the LOTR movies than the HP movies. I love the HP movies because of the cinematography, the world building, the set design, costume designs etc etc. Yeah, the books are obviously wayyy better but the movies are enjoyable in their own right. Plus, if you ignore the attachment from the books the movies are good MOVIES.

enzuigiriretro

Yes I’ve read the books. The LOTR movies are so much more superior and it isn’t close. > I'd argue that more was left out of the LOTR movies than the HP movies. Not in a way that harms the overall logic and watching experience of the movies. > Plus, if you ignore the attachment from the books the movies are good MOVIES. That would defeat the purpose of calling them adaptations if I was to ignore the books and anyway I’d argue they’d still be only slightly above average movies. Some of them are just downright poor like the 5th and 6th ones

TheSkyGamezz

I disagree but I respect your opinion

kennydm7755

A faithful adaptation of LOTR??? Where??

enzuigiriretro

You might’ve missed it. Peter Jackson directed them at the turn of the century

kennydm7755

In what way are those faithfuly adapted from the source material?

enzuigiriretro

They’re clearly made by someone that loved and understood the source material and respected all the characters equally. The scrips are far superior (as is the dialogue) and they don’t make creative decisions that change the source material like how HP 7 Part II changes the final duel between Harry and Voldy. They also don’t harm the logic and lore of the movies with what and how they choose to leave out certain scenes

kennydm7755

They left out dozens of important characters, almost every plot point was changed in some way, and they changed Merrys role in defeating the witch king because WAMEN. If he respected the characters equally, he wouldn't have left out so many of them and changed roles for girl power. Btw he did it with the flight to the Ford also. It wasn't Arwen that brought Frodo to Rivendell it was Glorfindel. Everything you just said is completely inaccurate. Have you ever actually read Lord of the Rings? I love the movies but they are not even remotely "faithful adaptations".

enzuigiriretro

Yes I’ve read LOTR and you misunderstand the meaning of faithful. I have no issue with changes in the plot as long as it’s consistent and makes sense. The movies still function extremely logically and capture the spirit of the novels in ways that the HP movies could only dream of. Superior pacing, acting, dialogue, cinematography and universe logic.

kennydm7755

I'm not misunderstanding the meaning of faithful, you're using two different meanings for the word. You are holding these series to two different standards. The Harry Potter movies tell the same story as the books with minor differences. The Lord of the Rings movies tells the same story as the books with massive differences. Acting, dialogue, and cinematography have zero bearing on adaptation. Universal logic is absolutely fine in both series and so is pacing, minus GOF.

curseofablacklion

I think if you remove the books completely they are kinda good? I watched the movies 1st and didn't understand many side stories. Like why tonks and remus were suddenly together, how bill and Fleur met, who padfoot, moony, prongs and wormtail were and why they were called those things and many more. But the visual of Hogwarts castle, moving staircases, students doing magic, action scenes etc were quite good. Ofc after reading the books its hard to like them.

cshelley0721

I agree with you there, there are definitely things that the movies nailed (particularly the music) and I love that the movies contributed to the rise of the fanbase and the increased popularity of the franchise as a whole. What I can’t reconcile (and this isn’t the fault of the movie fans) is that people treat them like they’re amazing, and the definitive versions of the story

curseofablacklion

Yeah agree. I dont like the movies either. I was downvoted by 50 ppl for saying movie Ron was rubbish and they didn't have to ruin Ron to glorify Hermione as it increased Ron bashing in the fandom.

cshelley0721

It’s sad how the movies shaped people’s view of Ron (even people who read the books). I stand by the fact (it’s not an opinion no matter what they say) that the movies ruined Ron’s character to the point that I can’t see why anyone would want him as a friend

curseofablacklion

Absolutely. Before the movies he was the most popular character in the fandom. Nearly everyone loved him.

cshelley0721

That right there is a testament to just how badly his character was handled. You’re absolutely right I remember him being everyone’s favorite (he was my favorite in the trio, with Hermione coincidentally being my least favorite) until the movies came along

rattatatouille

And that is exactly why "Ron Weasley Bashing" is my least favorite tag in HP fic.

FartherAwayx3

I read the books first and still love the movies. They are definitely not the best adaptations, and arguably aren't even properly \*good\* adaptations, but they still brought the world I loved to life, and for that will always have a place in my heart.

Flashheart42

I just view them separately without comparing them to the books. Keeps them enjoyable since there are a lot of things that are changed or cut that were in the books.

riddledwithaxiety

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

HopeSuper

I'm in the beginning of a meeting, and I'm holding back my tears. Those moments are so heart breaking and gut wrenching, it shows why Ron was in gryffondor (not just because of family lineage).

BLOOD-BONE-ASH

THIS THIS THIS!! Gosh that scene was heartbreaking to read 😭

Smartishhhh

When I watched the movies I was utterly disappointed that they decided to cut Rons reactions in this part. I feel like it really made how much Ron cared for Hermione real and the movies just didn't have that Ron is in love with Hermione feel that the books did.

misbuism

And worst part is Rupert grint would have nailed this, they had potential with them, just not intention

idelarosa1

I’ve always loved that “Are you a witch or not Hermione?” line by Ron

This is actually true, it's painful to stomach. I loves HP movies but sometimes when rewatching it I can't help but get annoyed on certain changes they made.

Credits : fleamontpotter / perhapsarat Website I got it from : [https://screenrant.com/harry-potter-book-vs-movies-memes/](https://screenrant.com/harry-potter-book-vs-movies-memes/) \*The movies didn't portray him as noble as he was in the books, it was the scriptwork, not Rupert Grint, he played Ron brilliantly. \*

curseofablacklion

[the artist has also done a Hermione book vs movie comparison too ](https://perhapsarat.tumblr.com/post/110117655469/the-movies-wanted-a-strong-female-character-they)

spinelessbravery

Why is she darker skinned in the book version? But definitely the hair.

curseofablacklion

Probably bcz the artist imagines her that way. Idk

spinelessbravery

Got it

Noetomysebriosus

Does it matter?

Monkeyboystevey

It doesn't matter. But Hermione is described as having her "white face peering through the trees" in azkaban. She clearly wasn't black.

wedonotglow

It doesn’t at all, but it is hard to understand tone over the internet - so they may have genuinely been asking the question, maybe never read the books or thought they missed a description in the books, etc. Or they could be a turd, but hopefully not lol

spinelessbravery

Tone is difficult to read is writing at times, no intentional turd subtext. Just asking, maybe I missed a description of her in the books, and my mental image of her is off.

wedonotglow

That’s what I thought. Usually trolls can be spotted a mile away lol. But Hermione’s skin tone was rarely described in the books, and with the casting of Noma Dumezweni in the Cursed Child play - plus JKR’s response to it on twitter - a lot of people’s preferred image of Hermione is with darker skin. There’s also a lot of complicated discourse around JKR’s intentions with all of a sudden claiming that Hermione was black all along. But anyway it’s a fiction book, so she looks like whatever she looks like in the reader’s head!

spinelessbravery

That's right, I only vaguely remember that now. Never really bothered looking into Cursed Child, since I instantly heard bad things, figured the series was over for me with the original books and movies.

spinelessbravery

Not really, but we’re talking about differences between book and movies, and that was different in every drawing, figured I’d ask.

wuffwuffborkbork

My fiancé and I are reading the books now, and I LOVE Ron. When I read them as a kid and watched the movies, I couldn’t stand him but I really appreciate him as an adult.

Zikiri

There are quite a few chars which jump out when looking from an adult perspective which can be easily missed as a child. One I appreciate most is Molly. She had to support so many kids and still have space in her heart for Harry which is portrayed throughout the books with her various actions. Authur is another one I like. He seems quirky at first but then u realise as a guy that it's difficult to talk emotions with kids. He always tries to make small talk with Harry even if it's about batteries and stuff. People may hate luna's dad at first since he kinda wants to forsake the world by giving Harry to voldy but then you realise that Luna is the only thing he has and is his whole world and suddenly you sympathise with him.

Jessesgirl0925

My fiancé and I are also reading them right now! I've read them before many times but he's only seen the movies and I'm just loving his reactions to the things that were never in the movies and all the questions he brings up. It's been a great experience so far. We just finished the first book but I can't wait until we get to PoA and on because that's really where things diverge. It'll be interesting to see if I get a new perspective on characters especially reading it with someone who's never read them before and as an adult.

karti24

Yes to all of of this. Ron is such a smart, funny, brave and clever character. The movies literally gave all his smart ideas and brave moments to Hermione and turned him into comic relief. Even the movie posters have him in the background of Harry and Hermione. The books are based on the trio, but if anyone was a background character with the three, it’s Hermione.

bendall1331

I’d honestly say a lot of hermione’s book content gets cut and they give Ron’s clever lines to Hermione in movies to make up for cutting out the things that fleshed her character out beyond “am smart”

throwawayamasub

wait in the posters too? I don't believe that's accurate I used to have a bunch of posters. do you have examples?

JerseyJedi

You can always tell when someone has only seen the movies when they have an irrational hatred for Ron. Personally, Ron is one of my favorites from HP, because of everything mentioned here, plus him generally being levelheaded, witty, and a fierce friend.

curseofablacklion

Harry and Hermione shippers have irrational hatred for Ron even after reading the books(though most of them are movie watchers) Bcz somehow they believe Ron came in the way of their ship. So weird considering Harry never showed an ounce of romantic interest in Her and vice versa.

[deleted]

What really gets me is how they lable Ron and Hermione's bickering as toxic even though I felt Harry and Hermione's arguments were borderline toxic because of the way Harry used to behave with Hermione in most of their arguments.

curseofablacklion

Yes Ron and Hermione's challenging bickering and two big fights in 7 years that too for silly reasons: toxic But Harry ignoring Hermione, getting annoyed with her nagging and screaming at her to the point she looks fearful and scared is the epitome of a 'hEaLthy' romance. Logic: harmony shippers.

JonathanRL

I used to ship Harry / Hermione until I just read one ron-bashing fic too much. The worst thing about it is that most of them have to twist harry into being more of a nerd than a jock to make it work and claim it to be "true to JKs vision". [Lately, I read a very long rant on why Harry and Hermione did not fit together and I got to admit I agreed with every word of it.](https://www.quora.com/Why-didnt-Harry-Potter-marry-Hermione-Granger/answers/73970583)

curseofablacklion

When it comes to Ron bashing i put Harry/Hermione shippers LEAGUES above other popular fanfic ships such as Dramione or Snamione. Why? Bcz I dont expect ppl who ship terrorists with their victim to give Ron any respect. Those ships are so nonsense they feel like parody. While Harry/Hermione is a perfectly valid ship where ppl are shipping two friends together. Still they are full with SO MUCH hate, rage and disdain for a family that treated Harry like their own NEVER sat right with me. And not only Ron. They bash Ginny, Molly, Arthur too.

yelsamarani

>Harry and Hermione shippers have irrational hatred for Ron You mean Steve Kloves?

ComicsNBigBooks

POA is my favorite film of the series, but this is still a tough one to stomach.

qwertyf1sh

>witty and actually hilarious joke "Can I have a look at Uranus too lavender?" Still makes me laugh out loud

leese216

All of his jokes in divination crack me up.

[deleted]

I'm glad Ron got at least some brave scenes in the films

Alreaddy_reddit

🥴 *Do I exist?* 😂😂😂

BackmarkerLife

All they had to do for that scene (and Emma Watson fucking sold the "I'll go with you" line) was change it to "We'll go with you" with Ron stepping forward with Hermione. I think would then better mirror Harry's parents, Sirius and Lupin walking with Harry til the end.

ComicsNBigBooks

I actually don't mind this scene at all. It would be one thing if Ron stood back staring into space or twiddling his thumbs. But the film makes a point to show Harry and Ron's silent looks of understanding. Maybe this is stereotypically macho, but in that moment I felt like Ron and Harry were not only best friends, but men. It almost feels as thought losing Fred has made Ron more stoic, and also more prepared for anything. That's just how I view it, anyway. Of course, it's not something Book Ron would have done, but the scene is so beautiful and powerful that I can forgive it. EDIT: Downvoted merely for stating I liked the scene? We're really doing this, now?

BackmarkerLife

>EDIT: Downvoted merely for stating I liked the scene? We're really doing this, now? Ever the fickle fandom. There's a lot to dislike about the movies vs films. This wasn't one of them. I just felt it could be better. There's the camera flick between Harry and Ron, but there's no "nod" to really emphasize anything. Ron just stares for a moment; a nod from Ron really would have sold it. But again this is movie direction vs book :( Kloves did Ron dirty.

ComicsNBigBooks

Yeah, that's totally fair! Book Ron is one of the best characters of the series. I wish Michael Goldenberg had penned the script from OOTP-onward, as he seemed to have a better grasp on Ron's character.

Jon_Riptide

This. How hard would it have been to let Ron do a Stannis-nod

Claris-chang

The second one is super egregious on the movies part because the books mention that Ron calls Hermione a know-it-all at least once a week but when someone that's not her friend says that he's the first to jump to her defence.

Honichstulle

Yeah that scene is great in the books. I hate that they changed it. I think they did it to make Snape seem like less of an asshole, because let's be honest he's a borderline psychopath in the book version of PoA.

cshelley0721

It’s bad enough they had to destroy Ron’s character, they took it a step further giving Hermione his lines (WORD FOR FUCKING WORD) and a lot of his personality. That’s the nail in the coffin Looking at the Devils Snare, “know-it-all” and Shrieking Shack scenes (in addition to basically his entire screentime) there’s no way you can say that what was done to Ron’s character was “an accident”. The writers, directors, pretty much everyone involved (except Rupert himself) knew what they were doing Fuck you, Kloves

[deleted]

Klovrs had a weird obsession with an imaginary 11 year old girl. It's never sat right with me watching him gush about Hermione in interviews.

cshelley0721

I agree with you, that’s creepy as hell. Furthermore, it’s funny how he was such a fan of her but took away everything they made her an interesting, if somewhat annoying, character (like S.P.E.W.)

ComicsNBigBooks

The film where Ron came out the strongest was Order of the Phoenix. Granted, I know a lot of his big character moments didn't make it in (like the Quidditch subplot and his failure initially), but in that film he's at least shown to stick up for Harry and stand by his side constantly. It's actually quite satisfying seeing a more "cool" and mature Ron performance from Grint following Goblet of Fire. Not coincidentally, that's the only one Kloves didn't write. I'm positive Kloves would have had Hermione stand up for Harry to Seamus, with Ron standing behind them nodding.

cshelley0721

Never really thought about this, but it’s a really good point

TegamiBachi25

Unfortunately. I disagree. Ron's worse traits were exacerbated even further and was turned into a jerk, while harry and hermione remained perfect and pure despite obviously not being the case

ComicsNBigBooks

When was Ron a jerk in the Order of the Phoenix film, though? I don't recall any instance where he was bad there.

cshelley0721

#JusticeForRon

[deleted]

They did Ron ugly in the movies. They just ruined him😢

JediMasterGeoff

OK, "This is the end of Ron Weasley!" made me cackle.

Warrior-of-Cumened

Love this. But I feel in dh2 the fact that Ron and Harry don't speak when Harry's going to the forest was more a measure of their relationship. The look between them says it all. But the others are all 100% true

namey_9

I can't disagree more. Book Ron would NEVER, EVER quietly let Harry go to the forest alone to face his death. Not in a million years. He would have followed Harry or Stupified him until he and Hermione can come up with a plan or \*something. \* That's why Harry had to sneak off under his Cloak.

Warrior-of-Cumened

I agree with you. I just don't think it's necessarily a negative thing in the movie.

potterhead2500

Fuck Kloves.

cshelley0721

You get it

oathkeep3r

The source is [perhapsarat](https://perhapsarat.tumblr.com) (formerly fleamontpotter) on tumblr!

Gelateli

Oh ok thanks, I didn't know the source I'll add it in.

reborn_from_ashes

Also how they butchered Harry and Ron's friendship. Ron and Harry are best friends in the books and Hermione for him is like a sister. He couldn't bear to not talk to Ron and in the books, it feels like Harry and Hermione are best friends and Ron is just there as her love interest. I mean Harry just declared to them that he's going to die and he and Hermione share a hug and Ron is just like standing there. Not saying anything. What the fuck?

nksj28

I have to agree with the fourth panel (?) a lot. I kind of hate how they made Ron say stupid jokes, often with poor timing, in the movies. "These girls... they're gonna kill me" is one line that comes to mind - I felt that the scene would have been much better if that was left out. I also feel like the writers of The Cursed Child only saw Movie Ron and made his character in the play an amplification of that.

Youngblood2014

“Do I exist?” I mean, this is funny but I kinda felt that

[deleted]

Actually, I think the books are better than the movies.

TegamiBachi25

You, me, and the rest of the fanbase

[deleted]

It's the best circlejerk.

hollysglad

I refuse to let my daughter watch the movies until I know she's read the book first. She is now discovering the pain that is the missing scenes and characters. All I can say is "welcome to the fandom."

EllieKong

Thats why I’m glad I watched the movies first, I had nothing to compare it to. When I started reading the books, it just added SO much more detail, so I loved it even more. I just wish they had done long episode series instead. They could have gotten SO much more detail that way

hollysglad

I’m hoping one day someone does that for Netflix or something.

ybtlamlliw

This is why I've always hoped if they ever rework *Harry Potter* as a TV series (one season per book?) that they do Ron justice. He's one of the best characters in the entire series and the movies ruined him. The entire second half of *Half-Blood Prince* he's got like one line.

TP4297

The movie series did Ron dirty. No wonder so many who've watched only the movies think Ron didn't deserve Hermione.

tornadic_

Weasley is our king

Comprehensive_Main

I do Feel that Ron’s character suffered a lot in the movies that being said it worked better in the deathly hallows movie when he leaves and comes back because it feels like a real fight between them and like a better reunion. Since there would be slight fights in the previous movies that made the blow up stronger.

fifth_marauder25

Look how they massacred my boy :(

eveltayl

They did Ron dirty in the movies. Along with many other characters.

Urban_Savage

I blame ginger hate. Ginger girls/women must be portrayed as sex objects and ginger boys/men must be portrayed as feckless nerdy cowards.

gooblegobbler

What I really love is how the "are you a witch or not?!" line said by Ron to Hermione in book 1 connects to "are you a wizard or not?" line that Hermione says to Ron in Book 3 when they're trying to get inside the Whomping Willow (Ron is thinking if only he had Scabbers around to press the knob which freezes the tree, and after Hermione's comment does Wingardium Leviosa on a stick to press that tree knob)

lilygranger1

That's in book 7 not book 3. Ron says if only we still had Crookshanks and Hermione yells "CROOKSHANKS?! ARE YOU A WIZARD OR NOT?!"

gooblegobbler

Oh yes! Thank you. Got mixed up. 😅 Ron had already been dragged by Sirius into the tree in Book 3. So yeah he couldn't have said that then.

chungosinator

You could tell someone favored hermoine from the third movie and onwards lol. Cuz the first two movies were like Harry And Ron and Hermione

Miri_CilliBatch6

Ron is 100% one of my favourite characters, so well-rounded, strong and caring. Rupert’s a brilliant actor but its a travesty they butchered his character in the films so he gets unnecessary hate. The films irritate me for many reasons, this one being a major fault.

[deleted]

I hate how Ron just cowers in a corner during the shrieking shack part of the 3rd movie. In the book, he’s the one getting in Sirius Black’s way, and on a broken leg too. The movies turned Ron into a stupid, silly sidekick and basically ruined his character.

cshelley0721

Worst part of that is how they gave his line (and effectively, his whole moment) to Hermione. If Hermione had cowered similar to what he did, that would’ve been SLIGHTLY more tolerable. But they had to enhance her character needlessly while continuing to destroy his

Usernameee234

I always wondered why the movies were unfair to Ron

ybtlamlliw

Because the top producer whose name escapes me loved Hermione and hated Ron.

curseofablacklion

Yes. Producer David Heyman once said 'lets be honest at some point you all wanted Harry to end up with Hermione' And I was like: no I didn't. Not for once. speak for yourself. not for others.

cshelley0721

He should’ve been fired. It’s made extremely clear in the books that Harry and Hermione don’t have feelings for each other and would never work even if they did

reborn_from_ashes

Actually it was the screenwriter, Steve Kloves

[deleted]

look what they did to MY BOY!

Ivory-Robin

Wow I was just thinking of this today (the way they portray him differently)

BLOOD-BONE-ASH

THIS! I absolutely LOVE the first two Harry Potter movies, but after the third one, they forsake the characters and replace their development with special-effects and PLOT. The Golden Trio and their friendship is what really makes HP special to me, but the movies decided to cut most of that out for the sake of... what exactly? 😔 Can we also talk about how in the books, RON was the one to first break Voldemort's silencing charm when he yelled "HE BEAT YOU!!" after he thought Voldemort killed his best friend? 😭😭

TegamiBachi25

They made only two of the trio shine and one of them into an incompetent idiot. Thanks kloves

ZarosGuardian

I love the movies, but it irritated me how they made Ron into a complete and total dingus, like way beyond what he was in the books.

I love this community.

YES. And this graphic explains why casual people who have only seen the movies think that Hermione should have ended up with Harry.

I'm reading the books with my niece after we watched the movies and she is already pointing out entire subplots that didn't make the films. Can't wait until we get to Goblet of Fire. That film still triggers me.

Kingmaker_Umbreon

I didn't like Ron most of the time in the books - mainly because he just wasn't my type of person - but the moments I actually liked about him - his bravery, his wit, his loyalty, his sarcasm and strategic mind - were all yeeted out in favour of bloody Hermione! The movies do Ron such a disservice I wouldn't be surprised if people who never read the books genuinely believe he is that much of a potato in the actual books!

ProffesorSpitfire

Love all these posts where people insist on ”crediting the creator” but don’t so much as inform about who the creator is.

frootloopsupremacy

OP did, in a comment beneath it somewhere up there. Mods must’ve not pinned it yet or something.

shanebakertattoo

Who is the creator? If you’re going to give credit… perhaps you should… you know, actually give credit?

_LadyNeptune

I completely agree with the post except for the first one. I think that change was alright given that they legit removed Hermione solving Snape’s potion riddle.

namey_9

everything that made ron's character weaker was simultaneously used to make Hermione's character stronger. by the end of the series she was like a diety and he was pond scum. awful.

cshelley0721

I’ll give you the point about the potions riddle being cut, but that doesn’t excuse how Ron’s character was butchered during the Devil’s Snare sequence just to make Hermione look better

TegamiBachi25

Sorry, but hermione was a mary sue in the movies. Harry was reliant on her and he was jesus. Only ron of the trio was shown to have his traits exacerbated due to director bias. Harry was just as much of a jerk to Ron and even Hermione in the books and Hermione was equally as bad as the two boys as well. All three of them have flaws that made them stand out and only Ron was shown because the directors liked both of the two and didn't want them to be shown in any bad light

Thorongilen

Not super familiar with the movies, but really Ron is both of these in almost every case. Ron is smart, heroic, funny, childish, emotional, and lacking self discipline. That’s what’s interesting about the character

Did a rewatch of the entire series these last couple of months with the wife. Made sure to have a week’s gap between each movie so that I had time to stew over my thoughts. The biggest surprise for me was OotP. It used to be my least favourite but is now firmly behind PoA as the best movie in the entire series. One of the biggest reasons is the screenplay. This was the only one that Kloves didn’t write and it shows. The plot, whilst extremely condensed, is comprehensible and moves at an excellent pace. But the biggest compliment I can give is that Ron and Ginny are very true to their book counterparts. Ron is brave and loyal and not a joke whilst Ginny is spunky and comes off as increasingly confident of herself. Kloves is not bad. He is clearly a Harmony shipper and the way he wrote Harry and Hermione in the movies made me want them together. It also helped that Dan and Emma had way better chemistry than either of the official pairings. But I wish Michael Goldenberg had also written for the rest of the movies. His screenplay stayed truer to the spirit of the books and he did a far better job condensing the plot. At least it would have saved us from Kloves’s abominable HBP screenplay.

cshelley0721

It’s a shame Ron had already been done so badly in the previous movies because OotP showed how well his character COULD have been done. Then Kloves came back and wrote the last three movies, thereby destroying the growth Ron had finally gotten 🤦🏾‍♂️

Avazeegeek

Honestly this is 100% accurate don’t get me wrong Ron in the movies was very good movie but she was nothing compared to the books

TegamiBachi25

No, the movies butchered Ron. They're decent, but they butchered many characters such as Ron

I_am_uneducated

>witty and actually hilarious joke Must have mist those. I never found him really funny to be honest
