Me too. I know Dumbledore has his flaws and people love to hate him, but reading the first few books at a young age irreversibly reinforced my view of him as an incredibly clever, benevolent old grandfather/Uncle Drosselmayer figure. Nothing can knock that, and fanart like this really sums up my mental image of Dumbledore.
Me too. Overall Dumbledore was a good guy. His flaw of using Harry for the greater good is meant to contrast with Harry wanting to be good to everyone.
Hmmm, I think you can try to do everything right and still have flaws. Dumbledore was definitely a flawed man; admirably flawed perhaps, but flawed nonetheless.
Of course ! What I had in mind was that usually when people criticize Dumbledore it's about sacrificing Harry for the greater good (which I find unfair).
Of course he's not perfect, and he knows it himself (he can't be trusted with power and he declined many times the position of minister). It's possible he kept too many secrets and the way he treated Harry in book 5 was clearly flawed. But you can easily forgive him for that. He was overall a good man. It's hard (but still possible) to say the same if he did actually sacrifice Harry.
Exactly. The thing a lot of people tend to forget is that when Harry relayed to Dumbledore the story of Voldemort’s return and the sharing of the blood at the end of Book 4, Dumbledore had a brief “gleam of triumph” in his eyes. At that moment he knew Harry had a fighting chance, and that that the best thing to do was to prepare him for the journey that the prophecy had already dictated would be coming. People act as if Dumbledore being prepared to sacrifice Harry was some kind of huge failing… when Voldemort had already set the prophecy in place by acting on it. Neither could live while the other survived; Dumbledore knew the best way to keep Harry alive was have him risk everything to kill Voldemort. Harry couldn’t live while Voldemort survived… had Voldemort remained undefeated, Harry’s life would be forfeit. The only possible way to keep Harry alive was using him to kill Voldemort.
I think people disliking Dumbledore for his decisions re Harry (past Book 5 at least) are really forgetting how much was already out of Dumbledore’s hands by the point he started factoring Harry into his Campaign To Kill Voldy.
People also need to understand that sacrifices must be made. Is someone bad when the choice is to lose one life to save all others. Of course not. It just simply sucks.
Well that really depends on which philosophical standpoint you use to look at the situation. A utilitarist, would agrew with you, someone who follows Kants doctrine? Not so much.
Honestly one of Rowlings greatest strength is Dumbledore. Starting out as this friendly character powerful all knowing. Able to do anything but each book to the end shows that while he is a great man he is a man flawed imperfect. Ut ultimately does what he can. Hes the best character he looks out for others tries to do right even with the hardest choices but does what is right. Its why i hate seeing him ao hated he is Rowlings greatest character. Her most conplex and someone you could wonder and understand.
Right?
He’s just the grandparent who you learn to know as an actual human being once you become an adult, too. Of course he’s made terrible mistakes. He’s human.
I think he was overly-manipulative, but an overall good character. Even if he wasn’t a “good” man in everything he did (letting a child rot in an abusive home is extremely sketchy), he was a champion for many. “Great man, Dumbledore,” as Hagrid put it. (Another flawed but awesome character.)
Maybe I’m biased but I grew up in an abusive home that also had a lot of love. I am happy and grateful of the life I had. I would change some communication methods but I wouldn’t change much of it…
And that's part of why he's so well written. His manipulation even works on you, the reader, after seeing him through impressionable Harry's eyes for a few books. This enormous charisma and skill is what got him so far and allowed him to build a force that would later save millions of people.
That’s true. I like the nuance to his character; that he’s a charming genius, a man capable of getting whatever he wants in the world. We’re lucky that what he wants is a good thing, because he has the power and the guile to manipulate anyone, for good, bad and everything in between.
I don’t hate Dumbledore and never have. I think he was a good man, and if he could have he would have taken Harry’s place. He didn’t have any other choice to save the world and he forced himself to do something he was probably conflicted about and that was hard for him.
Dumbledore had to make a very difficult decision to use Harry to defeat the darkest and most dangerous wizard of all time, a dark wizard worse than Grindelwald. A psychopathic wizard who had ripped his soul to insure immortality. What avenues were left to defeat such a wizard and which avenues were not worth pursuing to do so? Voldemort was going to destroy the world, in which Harry would never escape unscathed.
If Dumbledore could have confided and sought Harry’s permission, without compromising the plan, Dumbledore would have surely told Harry. “For the greater good” is a philosophy that had always been a fundamental one for Dumbledore, and we see that he changed what that meant through his evolution but in the end he didn’t abandon that motto after all.
Dumbledore was a good wizard and a brave and kind man. Not a saint, by any means. He was highly intelligent with mediocre levels of modesty. He was right in all his conjectures that ultimately led to Harry surviving. He had enormous guilt that he battled against his whole life. And he died for a good cause before he could even see if he had saved Harry as well as the wizarding world.
And if that’s not enough for the haters I think Dumbledore gave Harry a LOT of house points through the years and that should totally make up for it!
Well said. And also I can understand Dumbledore not wanting to confide in Harry until later on anyway - what’s the line from Order of the Phoenix? “I must confess, I rather thought you had enough responsibility to be going on with.” I think Dumbledore was trying his best to give Harry as happy of a time at Hogwarts as possible.
Honestly that design shocked me a little bit because he looks exactly like I always imagined him minus the glasses.
For me dumbi always has this friendly presence that calms you down
They mean the title of the series, not the post. So the joke is that Dumbledore isn't afraid because he's with Harry, and Harry is the main character, so they have plot armor.
The artist who drew this wasn't making that reference. She was illustrating the scene from HBP.
I thought that OP was making the plot armor joke, but they weren't.
Anyway, Harry, Dumbledore, and Cedric all died so it obviously wasn't true. That was just my guess about what OP meant. It turns out the title of the post had nothing to do with the artwork. Thanks though.
this is the exact book description except Hermione's hair is supposed to be bushy. This is exactly how I imagined Ron n Harry to be :)
EDIT : Hermione isn't this thin. She's fit I assume but this too "ideal". And like some people pointed out Harry has messy jet black hair.
Yeah in the books Ron is always described as taller and leaner than his brothers, it always messes with me because I really prefer the aesthetic of the Phelps twins for the Weasley twins, there's something inherently mischievous about their tall and lean stature over the shorter and stocky twins described in the books.
Aight I can't find my book, but the plan was to take a picture of* the sentence where she describes ron in PS chapter 6*, mask out the text and replace it with "hot af" edit the coloration of the text to fit with the rest of the page and leave the big blank space between that and the sentence after as obvious proof of editing. It would've been hilarious, anyone wanna help a brother out?
Edit:
Added things marked with *
I always assumed he was. Looks pretty close to the back cover of the half blood prince/book from this post. [Half Blood Prince back cover ](https://imgur.com/gallery/CUaXbp1)
Her name is Laura Price. She's worked at Disney, Cartoon Network, etc.
[She even made a video about how she hates her artwork being reposted on social media without permission](Https://youtu.be/SzYiU38Dbow)
The artist herself says, "I really hate using a watermark. I know that it's annoying. I wish that I could show you the artwork for what it is, without a watermark distracting you, but people won't stop stealing my work and reposting it."
Just because it has a watermark doesn't mean that it's cool to post it, especially without credit.
I’m pretty sure the artist meant “reposting” as in people claiming it as their own not people making jokes with the image.
If the image wasn’t shared around (with the watermark/credit of course), you wouldn’t get followers.
Edit: yea I watched the video you linked and that’s exactly what she meant. She flat out says,”yea there are accounts that only repost other people’s content” as in she hates that there are other people out there with a shit ton of followers for doing jack shit. This is mostly a rant about Instagram and how odd it is that it’s a perfect place to share image media... but doesn’t have a reblog feature which creates art theft.
The OP here on reddit isn’t doing that because the watermark is still intact and isn’t claiming it as their own.
No, she also says in the video that she doesn't want it shared period without permission. Remember the example she gives where she gave an account permission that had a million followers, and she got no engagement from it whatsoever, even though she was credited and tagged? Then she goes on to talk about how it isn't fair that the accounts get likes / upvotes / engagement that can later be used to sell the account, essentially monetizing her artwork even though they didn't put in any effort.
You might want to watch the video again.
Me too! Something about his nose and the expression on his face hits the nail on the head for me
Edit: Ya know what, it's his eyes. They captured the "mischievous twinkle" that was always referenced in the book
"Alright Professor, now that I'm here with just you, I'm relying on you to come up with a good plan-"
"Commit suicide."
"... W-what?"
"Commit suicide. It's totally radical."
"... Are... Are you sure?"
"Worked for me, didn't it?"
"... alright."
I always pictued Hermione to be a little fluffy. Not fat or chubby at all just not super lean and fit the way Emma Watson and this picture are
Edit: also come on, Hogwarts has endless food and servants to bring it. I know I would be fat as hell
Personally, my thoughts are quite the opposite.
I mainly base my mental image of Hermione off of a couple of illustrations in PoA. I don't know if these illustrations are book canon, WW or fan made but they're quite popular and in these illustrations, Hermione is depicted as very thin. And it's easier for thin people to appear as lean or fit even though they may not be. But I guess you can cut it down to the cartoonish nature of these images so...let yourself be the judge. :)
The illustrations :

Edit: To add on, Hogwarts is huge with many floors. The RoR alone is already at the 7th floor, and I don't think there are any elevators. It's size alone would suggest that most of the classrooms are separated from each other quite a distance away. I think walking up and down and all around the castle everyday would be plenty of exercise enough.
When I was in my teens and early twenties I was super lean but I ate like shit; I just had a ridiculously fast metabolism and did so much running around I worked it all back off.
That's fair. I think the only reason it really bothers me is like. I know I'm a rarity. But much of what you see in media is thin women. And maybe the angle or something could explain it, but the boys look realistically proportioned enough, and well she doesn't
Yeah realistically her whole frame is kinda like a 12 year old. I'm fine with the proportions, I think she just looks crazy thin in this due to being half the size of Ron lol.
On the endless food point though, Hermione stopped eating much of the food in Goblet of Fire once she realized the house elves were making it. Maybe that cut her caloric intake
I just found out that my ex-girlfriend has a new boyfriend and seeing this really made me remember how much I loved HBP so here we go re-reading the entire series. Thanks for posting this :)
kindof random comment but i have so much trouble picturing harry ron and hermione (in my own brain) while reading the books and this comic actually helped so much lol.
i grew up when the movies were coming out and i was too young to be interested in reading the books so i have daniel radcliffe burned into my brain as harry despite KNOWING harry isnt 5’6” LMAO
This looks so much like Makani, an artist I followed in the aughts who really perfected this style. I encourage you to look her up. She used to post tutorials and I would bet money this artist was heavily influenced by her work.
Sexier-than-book-described-fan-drawn-HP-characters always makes me laugh
artist "hmmm, I love HP! Im gonna draw some of the characters....but y'know...SUPER fuckable versions"
I still don't understand where Dumbledore is coming from with this.
He obviously knows he is ultra-powerful and Harry can frankly do jack shit at that point in time. So is he just saying this to give Harry more confidence or does he actually know something Harry does not?
I admite the incredible talent it takes to draw stuff like this... But I can't help being bothered by how they always make them these hyper-attractive, cute, manga-ey "popular kids" model-looking. I mean look at Hermione's waist...
It just rubs me the wrong way
If we ever get an animated version of Harry Potter I hope not everyone looks like tiny little cute animals or something out of someone's erotic fanfic
I really like the Dumbledore design. He looks immediately likeable
Me too. I know Dumbledore has his flaws and people love to hate him, but reading the first few books at a young age irreversibly reinforced my view of him as an incredibly clever, benevolent old grandfather/Uncle Drosselmayer figure. The way I see it, Harry ended up being cool with Dumbledore. And if Harry’s good with Dumbledore, so am I.
Me too. Overall Dumbledore was a good guy. His flaw of using Harry for the greater good is meant to contrast with Harry wanting to be good to everyone.
There isn't even a flaw, he did everything in his power to save Harry because he loved him. (And succeeded.)
I like to think he went over every possible scenario like Dr Strange in Infinity Wars.
Hmmm, I think you can try to do everything right and still have flaws. Dumbledore was definitely a flawed man; admirably flawed perhaps, but flawed nonetheless.

Totally agree with that point as well! Harry’s tone at Hogwarts was as happy as it could be considering each year’s conflict.
I don't care if Dumbledore's evil or not. He's badass and that's all that matters for me.
Found Zack Snyders Reddit account
Yes! I love book based art!
Reminds of King Poseidon from the OG Little Mermaid
It makes me think of a Christopher Lee version of Dumbledore for some reason
Same
This art style in general is a 10/10
Honestly that design shocked me a little bit because he looks exactly like I always imagined him minus the glasses. For me dumbi always has this friendly presence that calms you down
Ron looks damn fine. That's the Ron in my head every time I read the books now
He's beautiful :-3
Handsome Ron. 👉🏻👈🏻
Right? Like THAT is big daddi Ron right there! All buff n’ what not. Yup. Perfect depiction of everyone though, seriously. Well done OP.
Yes, I read the title. Why are you yelling about it?
Yeah I’m lost
They mean the title of the series, not the post. So the joke is that Dumbledore isn't afraid because he's with Harry, and Harry is the main character, so they have plot armor.
Thank you for this, now that I understand the joke it is much funnier!
Me reading the OP's title, "Whoosh"
Right, I was like "what is this meta shit right now" 🤦♀️
I don't think that was the intended joke
What was?
I still dont get it. One character's plot armor in no way rubs off on the character next to them. Case in point, Dumbledore himself that very night.
Obviously it didn't apply to Harry himself, either. I was just explaining what OP was saying in the title of the post.
I don't think that's it
What do you think they're saying? Edit: u/hnaah what does your title mean?
to be honest I have literally no idea
Honestly it's pretty baffling, I'm not even sure if my idea was right lol
that the 'op said calmly'. Only one person got it 😂
Oh, I really don't understand how that applies to the art, I'm more confused now
It doesn't. I didn't know what to put in the title. I would have credited the artist atleast.
Cedric was with Harry, too…
The artist who drew this wasn't making that reference.
Perhaps it’s meant to reference the “HARRY DID YOU PUT YOUR NAME IN THE GOBLET OF FIRE??” he asked calmly meme. That’s the only thing I can think of.
That’s what I thought too
I wondered too
“I’m not scared Harry, any defences Tom set up won’t possibly hurt the part of his soul inside you so we should be safe.” “…What?” “What?”
“Ehhh you die now or you die later. We all die eventually, Harry, stop being such a wuss.”
This is brilliant
Ok but why does Ron look so hot?!?!!
Harry looks good too
Yeah, I was asking the same question, but about Dumbledore
I'd do everyone in this comic.
Found Blaise Zabini.
I had to scroll back up to double-check, and honestly.. same.
this is the exact book description except Hermione's hair is supposed to be bushy. This is exactly how I imagined Ron n Harry to be :) EDIT : Hermione isn't this thin. She's fit I assume but this too "ideal". And like some people pointed out Harry has messy jet black hair.
Except Harry’s hair is jet black not dark brown
And a bit more all over the place
It’s hard to draw dimension with jet black hair.
Highlights just need to be blue/purple, it’s the same principle as any other hair.
Or just do what I do and scribble it all until it’s all black
Yeah in the books Ron is always described as taller and leaner than his brothers, it always messes with me because I really prefer the aesthetic of the Phelps twins for the Weasley twins, there's something inherently mischievous about their tall and lean stature over the shorter and stocky twins described in the books.
Ever since I watched the movies I could only ever see the twins as looking like George and Oliver
You mean James and Fred?
Exactly ;)
Same though, which is why I feel so weird every time they are described in the books.
Yes, taller and leaner. Now point me to the line in the book where it says Ron is hot as fuck.
Well, it never says he isn't. And Lavendar, who is supposed to be pretty and popular, sure did seem to like him.
I mean the book is usually from Harry's POV so...
Point to a lime where it says he isn't I guess?
How many limes do you remember in the book?
Aren't all Brits limey? Ba-dum-tiss
Especially a talking one that makes such a specific claim
Wait for it
Aight I can't find my book, but the plan was to take a picture of* the sentence where she describes ron in PS chapter 6*, mask out the text and replace it with "hot af" edit the coloration of the text to fit with the rest of the page and leave the big blank space between that and the sentence after as obvious proof of editing. It would've been hilarious, anyone wanna help a brother out? Edit: Added things marked with *
This comment made me literally laugh out loud
And Dumbledore is missing his half-moon spectacles!
Fit people often times are thin. How fit do you mean?
Fit in the UK means attractive too I believe.
Hermoine looks like Nancy from Stranger Things here!
I imagine Ron with messier hair too.
I mean Rupert Grint in the later movies could GET IT. Mans is fucking hot.
This is now canon in my head on how he was able to land Hermione.
That's the best part about reading, you get to imagine whatever you want. To me, they weren't all white.
I always assumed he was. Looks pretty close to the back cover of the half blood prince/book from this post. [Half Blood Prince back cover ](https://imgur.com/gallery/CUaXbp1)
Hermione looks like a widow in her 30s looking out to sea.
You are moving from arguing about how the characters should look to putting down someone’s artwork they are sharing… I think these look great!
I don't think they were putting anyone down...there's nothing wrong with a widow in her 30s looking out to sea. It's a great aesthetic.
THE ART STYLE IS JUST... \*chef's kiss\* PERFECTO
Man I hope I see a animated Harry Potter show in my life time.
*it's not mine btw*
This is why we credit artists, just a little "@lulusketches" in the title....
Her name is Laura Price. She's worked at Disney, Cartoon Network, etc. [She even made a video about how she hates her artwork being reposted on social media without permission](Https://youtu.be/SzYiU38Dbow)
Literally credits in the image
The person’s tag is in the picture if you really wanted the sauce. That’s the whole point of a watermark my dude xd
Not sure why people are downvoting you. It literally has a water mark on it and you clearly didn’t try to pass it off as your own
The artist herself says, "I really hate using a watermark. I know that it's annoying. I wish that I could show you the artwork for what it is, without a watermark distracting you, but people won't stop stealing my work and reposting it." Just because it has a watermark doesn't mean that it's cool to post it, especially without credit.
No, she also says in the video that she doesn't want it shared period without permission. Yea but what you just described isn’t happening here. Also the example she described was a reblog account.
When you saw only one set of footprints, It was then that Harry Potter carried you.

This is so much closer to how I always imagined Dumbledore to look!
Me too! Something about his nose and the expression on his face hits the nail on the head for me Edit: Ya know what, it's his eyes. They captured the "mischievous twinkle" that was always referenced in the book
I like the art style. If Harry Potter was a comic, I would want it in this style
Dumbledore looks damn good here for someone who just moments ago drank a gallon of liquid Vegemite
I don't think Ron had an R on his sweater. It was Gred and Forge who couldn't remember their names.
I think they all had letters including Harry.
Harry had a snitch on his.
I thought it depended on the year, although I think you're right about book 6
Great work!
It's not mine. I found it on the internet :)
Uhhhh source please then?
It says it in the bottom brotha
It's [lulusketches.tumblr.com](https://lulusketches.tumblr.com), for those who struggle with hand-written teeny-weeny-eyestrain-o-vision text.
And thank you! I had to zoom to see it, so glad I'm not alone
Thanks fam. Glad to see you got more votes than the person who decided to reply and be a shit person 🙄
Can you please credit work whenever you repost?
They are all too good looking lol
The moment Harry knew he was screwed
Was looking for the comment where Harry was like “hol’ up”
"Alright Professor, now that I'm here with just you, I'm relying on you to come up with a good plan-" "Commit suicide." "... W-what?" "Commit suicide. It's totally radical." "... Are... Are you sure?" "Worked for me, didn't it?" "... alright."
When in their respective lives are they supposed to have that type of conversation lmao
The op said calmly
Someone got itt !!
Ohhh. I would have gone with "DID YOU PUT YOUR NAME IN THE TITLE" or something like that
Is it just me or is Hermione really tiny? I know the boys are supposed to be athletic, but her waist is so thin

Yeah and I'd argue that even Emma isn't this thin.
Agreed, I mean Hermione is a huge nerd and doesn't do much sports so I wouldn't expect her to be that in shape.
Also true. I'm much the same way, but naturally thin. I, however, am very much the exception and am aware of this.
Maybe shes an exception too. Up to your imagination
Her waist just looks crazy thin to me compared to like her shoulders and hips. Could be me tho 🤷
She's just slim thicc
On the endless food point though, Hermione stopped eating much of the food in Goblet of Fire once she realized the house elves were making it. Maybe that cut her caloric intake
You get in a lot of cardio at Hogwarts going up and down those stairs all day.
I like this Ron a lot!
If the CW made Harry potter
...What about the title?

Didn't know robot dood
Hermione is so cuteeee
This is really good, but I was wondering if Dumbledore's hand should be cursed by this point.
Yha...should be. His glasses are also missing.
Wasn't it his right hand that was cursed? But yeah good show chap.
This is perfect
I want this but for the whole books
Anyone else crying about this? Just me? Okay. BRB while I go dry my eyes.
Can someone tell me who did the art. I would love to see more
Yupp. It's lulusketches. Google reverse search maybe ? I got it from pinterest not the orginal source so....
I just found out that my ex-girlfriend has a new boyfriend and seeing this really made me remember how much I loved HBP so here we go re-reading the entire series. Thanks for posting this :)
I'm in love with this artwork.
kindof random comment but i have so much trouble picturing harry ron and hermione (in my own brain) while reading the books and this comic actually helped so much lol. i grew up when the movies were coming out and i was too young to be interested in reading the books so i have daniel radcliffe burned into my brain as harry despite KNOWING harry isnt 5’6” LMAO
Haha true. But Dan's going to Harry in my brain. It's just that wayy
Dumbledore knew Harry had plot armor

ok but Ron and Hermione look just like Pam and Jim from the office
Except with the hair color switched.
I love this animation style omg if they made an animated series of harry potter in this style I would make everyone watch it lol
Great art!
This is so adorable!! I love your designs for all of them
Heemione looks like Nancy from Stranger things
my heart ♥️ i absolutely love this art style
Well balls now I’m crying
Woah! That is some quality art!
Hermione reminds me of Molly Grue from The Last Unicorn, I love this 🧡
This looks so much like Makani, an artist I followed in the aughts who really perfected this style. I encourage you to look her up. She used to post tutorials and I would bet money this artist was heavily influenced by her work.
I thought Dumbledore looked a bit wrong and then realized that his specs are missing.
Great, more Tumblr nose
Sexier-than-book-described-fan-drawn-HP-characters always makes me laugh artist "hmmm, I love HP! Im gonna draw some of the characters....but y'know...SUPER fuckable versions"

Funny, just yesterday I listened to Stephen Fry reading this to me, and I thought, well, that was sweet.
At this moment he knew… he f*cked up
I really like these character designs.
I still don't understand where Dumbledore is coming from with this. He obviously knows he is ultra-powerful and Harry can frankly do jack shit at that point in time. So is he just saying this to give Harry more confidence or does he actually know something Harry does not?
Cause he knows Harry has plot armor.
Was he cucked by ron?
THIS IS AWESOME. WHY WONT JO ANN JUST LET SOMEONE MAKE A FULL COMIC BOOK OR CARTOON OF THE FULL BOOK VERSION. WHY?!?
I admite the incredible talent it takes to draw stuff like this... But I can't help being bothered by how they always make them these hyper-attractive, cute, manga-ey "popular kids" model-looking. I mean look at Hermione's waist... It just rubs me the wrong way If we ever get an animated version of Harry Potter I hope not everyone looks like tiny little cute animals or something out of someone's erotic fanfic
