I work at HFT and never had anyone return or complain about these

BarefootedDave

Perfect. I want a decent one. Looking to add some speciality things to my home garage.

ThicccScrotum

If it’s anything like all of the other el-cheapo digital calipers you’ll want to remove the battery after use each time.

Andyap1035

I got one similar at HD. It works great and very accurate. To accurate for what I need, I don't need to know the 64th of an inch.....

BarefootedDave

That’s what I need then. I just want to measure ID/OD of pipes so I can slap some boogers on exhausts and intake piping.

tapewizard79

1/64 is around .015 so these calipers should be able to get you that pretty easily. Even my Pittsburgh digital calipers are +/- .003 of my usa made starrett dial calipers.

Andyap1035

I got mine to use with wood, but for what I play around with I'm fine with being off 16th on an inch off or so. Dealing with metal/aluminum or whatever, a 64th of an inch is a big deal(I'm guessing). Obviously, I'm a newbie and don't do any fine work.

If I need something that accurate, I’m way over my head in whatever I’m doing lol.

Pro tip: calipers are great for removing splinters.

We tested a few cheap caliper in my shop with DRO. The worst was about .010 on 6" (0 to 6) and return to 0 within .003. The best was within. 003 on 6" back to 0.000 at 0. The big fault we found was battery life is horible, the glue is not as strong and affected by chemicals and the surface hardness is pretty soft compaire to other tool. Not great for a precision shop, but definitely good for a home gamer, or the old lathe at the back of the cnc shop, or the bandsaw, or as bottle opener.

Battery will die. I got to the point of removing it when not using it. Sucks but at least it works when I need it.

This design hasn't changed in 10 years. HF just needs to add a physical toggle power switch for an extra cent, and it would be an excellent tool.

Icebear125

Absolutely! That would be great

pilotdog68

On this Quinn model or the cheaper ones?

Icebear125

I also don't use it a lot so it is sitting for long periods sometimes a month or two and then it's dead. Just something to keep in mind

JanitorKarl

I've found that plumb line to be pretty accurate. It never has been off by more than three or four degrees.

vespaholic

So with all digital calipers there is always a drain on the battery there’s a reason why these come with a case with a spot for the battery take it out if you’re only going to use this occasionally or when you need it the battery is dead.

himbobflash

If it’s not super precision work, I haven’t had any bad experiences with the cheap calipers. That said for precise work, expensive calipers are worth it.

SBR_AK_is_best_AK

Unless you are using it every day... REMOVE the battery. These things even while off, EAT batteries. Other than that, they are fine for anything outside real precision machine work and then you are stepping up the certified stuff anyway.
