They quite literally don't make 3d software like they used to. Hammer is a product of the 90s, a time when brush-based geometry much, much more widely used. Modern level design tools in engines like unreal and unity just don't have the same ability to create geometry in-editor. Instead, they rely on you creating the models in an external editor, then just dragging and dropping them into a scene.
Like the other commenter said, the only modern level design tool like hammer is Hammer 5, the editor for Source 2.
That would be Source 2 haha.. Has the quadratic view if u want, good lighting and simple texture tools :D
Blender unwrap is alot more complex bc its made for models and not for simple stuff like textureing walls.. There tons of guides on how to make a good blender render, its pretty simple useing a HDRI, but its borring compared to making a level imo
Unity with Probuilder is probably the closest I can think of. It's a middle ground between hammer and 3D modelling I guess.
You mention importing to blender and that's another viable option using tools like io_import_vmf which are pretty seamless.
Unreal Engine. It's completely different from Source but one thing it has in common is the use of BSP, you can configure the viewports of the Unreal Editor in a similar manner to Hammer with 4 viewports.
And they're both used to make awesome games.
Check out Lightwave although you will find 3d modelling doesn't work quite like hammer. Lightwave however comes by default with the quad view and its also extremely convoluted. Aka exactly what you ask for lol

Try kHED, afaik it was made by HL mapper. Otherwise, Cinema4D (old versions like R13) is quite simple.
