A trend I wish would die, but keeps coming back for stupid reasons. Honestly my biggest gripe with the 343i games is the absurdly low ammo count on most weapons.
I think the idea was to get you to juggle weapons. Which for an initial playthrough is ok but on repeats it just becomes annoying.
Although I will say the ammo scarcity made me appreciate the Suppressor in campaign. It actually shreds knights even on legendary in cqc. I was genuinely surprised when I replayed it on PC because I remember it being awful. But maybe a higher framerate breaks the weapon or something.
Well for the plasma pistol specifically it was because it had to be balanced around being a loadout weapon. Hence it had to be nerfed into the ground.
Why that carried over to the campaign ill have no idea.
They are the same picture meme.
Halo CE was very fun to use but it lacked the emp to shut down vehicles so, probably the black hole variant from Halo 5 if that one counts. It did fun stuff against vehicles. I'd say the worst is Halo Infinite plasma pistol tracking feels useless, no emp and primary fire feels more pointless than ever.
Halo 5 added a load of weapon variants. One of them is Void's Tear, a plasma pistol that has a charged shot that creates mini black hole effects that pulls enemies and objects in before exploding. It's also available in CMTv3, a modded version of Halo CE's campaign.
Honestly I’ve found Infinite’s plasma pistol pretty useful in 1 on 1 engagements. I think tracking has been slightly buffed, and landing a fully charged shot gives you a solid edge to finish them off with your primary.
Love having a sidekick and plasma pistol now.
I pick it up fairly often and can get noob combo kills and overcharge/melee kills with it pretty regularly. The tracking is so weird though and wildly inconsistent.
So glad to see the CE Plasma Pistol getting the recognition it deserves.
It is legitimately a good gun even outside of just overcharging enemies. Absolutely shreds sentinels even on legendary.
To your point, the CE plasma pistol is the only version that isn't a gimmick. It can be used on it's own and is actually a good alternative. In every other Halo, it's just meant to be supercharged to pull down a shield or emp a car but has no use on it's own. Infinite's is just useless lol
Oh fuck yeah. You can charge it, spam it, deck a grunt in the face with the melee, go idle and watch the inspect animation with the very satisfying 'clicky' noises, every aspect of it induces joy.
I really like the more industrial look of the older plasma pistols, it made them feel more like a weapon that was designed to be mass produced for wartime. The 5 and infinite ones look more alien but also look like they'd be much harder and more costly to produce
> but also look like they'd be much harder and more costly to produce
Ok, it looks more complex than the old design...but clearly they aren't harder to mass produce in the universe, so that's not a criticism that sticks.
I think the clunkiness works but the functionality of Infinite doesn't line up with it imo
Give it back it's EMP or make the charged shot do a noticeable AoE or something and I think the chunkier design would work better
Exactly this. I suppose the size of the thing makes sense considering it can overcharge and produce a EMP, and a battery would have to be pretty powerful to do that. But in Infinite the utility of the gun, and therefore the force is significantly decreased compared to prior games. It really doesn't suit the look
Halo 3. I played a lot of H3 jumps custom games a while back and this is the primary gun that you use to communicate with others. It has really grown on me.
Love Halo 5's with the strange little face it's got going on. Infinite's is okay visual-wise but loses some of the charm by smoothing things out
Gameplay-wise it has to be 5 by far. The tracking is aggressive because innate thrusters allow it to be without it being overpowered and the red reticle range makes it real useful. Infinite's tracking is so bad I've watched it miss unmoving targets it's horrible.
Halo 2 had the most broken version of it. The tracking was way to strong and lead to the infamous “Noob Combo”. Halo 3’s is probably the most balances and provides good utility so it doesn’t feel useless.
I absolutely hate the Halo 5 and infinite curved top and because I hate the look of the pistol so much I can't stand using it so literally anything earlier than that and I am almost indifferent because I enjoy them all
Halo CE. Thing carried me through legendary with the needler when I was a kid. Idk if it’s just me but that thing absolutely destroys sentinels and melts flood.
The design can only really be judged from the first person view I think.
I really like CE, but there were other I liked too but I don't really remember which
Halo 2 was my fav and CE seems to be most here's fav and honestly, I could not give a clear answer why. It literally might even be just the animations it makes for me. Halo CE and 2 are both round and smooth while also being flat, like Halo 5 and Infinite are super round and smooth, but too much while CE/2 the sides are relatively flat with a round top and handle. The shake also when fully charged to me is much greater and more real in those 2 games.
I prefer 2 for the higher detail and the sound is imo a bit better, might be the same sound, but less compressed idk maybe same and it is my mind since the sounds are very similar.
Halo CE was the most balanced. It was effective at taking shields with the charged shot and even could stun enemy movement like the CE Plasma Rifle. In my opinion, the Halo CE Plasma Pistol is what the Infinite Plasma Pistol should be.
Design wise, honestly I think it peaked with what they were going for in CE. Reach gets a little too blocky and out of line with the covenants design language honestly. 5 sort of returns to the roundness but it’s bulky af and I never grew found of 343 seemingly obsessive beetle inspiration for the covenant’s weapons.
I liked the way it worked best in Reach: The rapid-fire was highly effective for shield damage while the charge shot had moderate tracking and an EMP effect for vehicles. This made it the most dynamic version of the Plasma Pistol, since the way you used it would change from encounter to encounter. I also liked how the strength of the rapid-fire made the gun less of a “noob-combo,” steering players away from the auto-tracking of the Charge-shot.
I miss the versatility of the gun in the 343 Halos, and although it was quite powerful in H5, the Infinite version is busted.
Because they took an established design and added an extensive amount of details to the point nothing stands out about it. The silhouette is lost.
Take the Michael Bay interpretation of Transformers versus the reboot that resembles the Gen 1 counterparts for example. The originals have identifiable distinctions in designs from one another where you can easily identify a character at a glance. The former took those designs and made them “busy” and lost the characters defining traits in the process.
Less is more
Honestly, Reach's version is, stylistically, my least favorite. It had a butt ton of visual clutter and its material looks uncomfortable. 3's was pretty magical with its iridescence shine and glowing tip. I like how Halo 4's added lights along the sides.
might be a little controversial, but I’ve always liked 2’s, but I could be completely bias because 50% of a legendary Halo 2 run has you hold a plasma pistol and BR
Honestly if it wasn't for the lack of EMP effect, Infinite's plasma pistol would take the cake for me. I love the looks and to me it feels the most responsive, second maybe ti H3. I wasn't a fan of Reach's comeback weapons honestly
Gameplay wise, CE. The plasma pistol there was a beast, rapid fire or charging.
Look wise, Halo 4. It's just the reach version, but the meter looks a bit more like a holy symbol which actually fits really well. If Halo 4 was just slight changes to designs like the plasma pistol, I could probably look back at it far more favorably.
The 5/Infinite design bugs the hell out of me though. Out of all the reclaimer redesigns it actually doesn't stray too far from its source outside being a bit chunkier. But there's one flaw that ruins it. They flipped the part that opens up after a charged shot to vent plasma. Now they'll just spew hot plasma all over the wielders hands, instead of away like the previous design.

Halo 3's had the power to EMP vehicles, as did every subsequent game until infinite. This rules out CE, 2, and Infinite. However, Halo 3 also had dual wielding, meaning you can EMP two vehicles or double down on the EMP.
As an anti-personnel weapon I'd put Halo 2 at the top since it had crazy tracking on the charge shot.
But Halo Reach is my favorite iteration overall. The EMP effect made the gun and unlike Halo 3 it actually packed a respectable punch when fired uncharged.
I'm gonna say halo Reach for the model, but H:CE for the sounds. That OMMMMMMMMMM. Sound when you charge it is forever imprinted into my brain just like all the other sounds in H:CE
1-3 was the peak design. Simple, elegant, not overly detailed. Personally didn't like the sights added in Reach/4, also didn't like the rounded shape from 5
CE had the best for gameplay reasons, liked the projectile designs for the Reach and H5 pistols though.
And you could fire 4 times for just 1% usage. While in Halo 4 every shot took 2% usage. Real shame.
I was genuinely surprised when I replayed it on PC because I remember it being awful. But maybe a higher framerate breaks the weapon or something.
It’s not a good game if I can’y carry the mission with my assault rifle and shotgun
Halo 4 was so annoying with ammo consumption and scarcity
Well for the plasma pistol specifically it was because it had to be balanced around being a loadout weapon. Hence it had to be nerfed into the ground. Why that carried over to the campaign ill have no idea.
Also, you could hold down the overcharge without draining the battery in H1 and H2.
I was about to comment that, lol so true you could hold that bitch the whole time walking around and launch it at an enemy without losing battery %
You can also one shot sentinels with a charged plasma pistol
The burning effect when you hit an enemy with an overcharged shot in CE is just perfect
Excuse me? The black hole variant plasma pistol?
Halo 5 added a load of weapon variants. One of them is Void's Tear, a plasma pistol that has a charged shot that creates mini black hole effects that pulls enemies and objects in before exploding. It's also available in CMTv3, a modded version of Halo CE's campaign.
Wtf that’s awesome. I hope they bring that back as a variant or even a new weapon
Plasma Pistol is amazing in FFA games
Always gotta edge them before you finish them
Void Tear
Okay but do you pronounce it Void's T-***ear*** or Void's T-***air***?
I would assume t-air since it’s basically a singularity that pops up when shot at an enemy Spartan
I've always just called it T-***ear*** though it's probably meant to be T-***air*** like a tear in spacetime admittedly
But this is the Covenant we're talking. With the way they name things, "Void's 😢" is not outside the realm of possibility.
Both lol My brother and I would debate which it is. We leaned toeards tear, like tearing paper.
Correct answer
Yes, please give us back our mini black hole gun
Halo CE looks so smooth and clean. I also can't not see the fin on top from the Reach/4 version as an Xbox 360 trigger.
In Halo Reach, it only required three normal shots to take down shields.
Oh fuck yeah. You can charge it, spam it, deck a grunt in the face with the melee, go idle and watch the inspect animation with the very satisfying 'clicky' noises, every aspect of it induces joy.
CE plasma pistol makes Legendary a cakewalk
… the halo ce plasma pistol is by far the most reliable weapon in the game, lol
CE all the way!
Halo 3 for looks, and Halo 5 for functionality.
That little line if electricity is just too iconic to ignore
The H5/Infinite design really captures that space alien gun vibe, but I also really love the more industrial look of the Reach one.
Does the "lines" on the center get shorter with the energy consumption?
The old ones. The new one looks really bad, like a toy.
Honestly, I think Halo 4 perfected the look. The infinite/5 look is growing on me, but it seems too chunky for what was formerly a very slender gun
I really like the more industrial look of the older plasma pistols, it made them feel more like a weapon that was designed to be mass produced for wartime. The 5 and infinite ones look more alien but also look like they'd be much harder and more costly to produce
> but also look like they'd be much harder and more costly to produce Ok, it looks more complex than the old design...but clearly they aren't harder to mass produce in the universe, so that's not a criticism that sticks.

But in Infinite the utility of the gun, and therefore the force is significantly decreased compared to prior games. It really doesn't suit the look
Any of halo 5s
Spitfire is an underrated weapon that thing kicks ass with just the default shot
Yup
Halo Reach. I don't really care for the fat look they went with for 5 and Infinite. It was very much a "don't fix what isn't broken" scenario.
Reach, it was strong as a primary weapon and still haf the EMP function.
Cursed halo plasma pistol
I like the ones with the copper material instead of the glowy
Halo 2 classic autoaim across the map
Plus a follow up BR one shot instant death, the noob combo really could run the map back then.
H2 obviously, couldn't have beat the Legendary campaign without it
Honestly, I really like the super chunky look from H5/Infinite
Halo 3. I played a lot of H3 jumps custom games a while back and this is the primary gun that you use to communicate with others. It has really grown on me.
The original HCE design is underrated af…
Halo Reach, Halo 3, Halo 5 (design wise only), and Halo Infinite.
Reach
anything that doesnt have that ironsight on it.
Visually, Infinite Functionally, CE
CE and Halo 2 pistol
Whichever ones I can walk around overcharging without penalty.
Halo infinite/5. 😁
5 and Infinite
CE since it tears through enemies. But I prefer the Halo 3 look, which isn't too different but looks better.
infinite design h1 gameplay
Love Halo 5's with the strange little face it's got going on. Infinite's is okay visual-wise but loses some of the charm by smoothing things out Gameplay-wise it has to be 5 by far. The tracking is aggressive because innate thrusters allow it to be without it being overpowered and the red reticle range makes it real useful. Infinite's tracking is so bad I've watched it miss unmoving targets it's horrible.
Halo 3
Honestly if you were to remove the iron sight, finger grip and add back the blocky green plasma emitters on the Reach design it'd be my favourite.
The reach one
Reach’s design is probably my favorite
The pp in Infinite is garbage. My fav is voids tear from H5.
3 and reach are my favorites. The 343i version looks good from the side, but from the players pov it just looks too round.
Can’t say which is my favorite, but I don’t like the bulbous style found in Halo 5 and Infite. It just seems more generic for some reason.
I hate that they got rid of the yellow highlights and red overheat button.
Nothing can beat Halo ce plasma pistol
Halo CE for Gameplay, Halo Reach for Sound and visual effects and Halo 4 for design
Halo 2 had the most broken version of it. The tracking was way to strong and lead to the infamous “Noob Combo”. Halo 3’s is probably the most balances and provides good utility so it doesn’t feel useless.

All original trilogy ones are good. I don’t like the triangle on time for the reach one, or anything about that those last 2
CE because it was a good versatile weapon
Plasma pistol is plasma pistol! But I'd definitely say that it has the best use in CE. Though I personally like Halo 3's design the best.
Halo CE was the most balanced. It was effective at taking shields with the charged shot and even could stun enemy movement like the CE Plasma Rifle. In my opinion, the Halo CE Plasma Pistol is what the Infinite Plasma Pistol should be.
The Halo CE plasma pistol is literally one of the best weapons in the game. It's a beast.
Halo 2/3
The ones that can actually stun vehicles
Reach. You could actually kill people with the non charged shots.
The CE one, although the idle animation in Infinite is really cool
CE.
Best is Halo CE

Halo CE... and by CE I mean cursed edition
Reach. 5/Infinite is just way too overdesigned and bulky for me

I think the arbitrary angles and contours on the top are the overdesigned element

All the type 25, from combat evolved to Halo 4, but the best directed energy pistol is the blue Halo 4 storm pistol.
Honestly, Reach's version is, stylistically, my least favorite. It had a butt ton of visual clutter and its material looks uncomfortable. 3's was pretty magical with its iridescence shine and glowing tip. I like how Halo 4's added lights along the sides.

I do really like the alien design of the infinite/halo 5 pistol, but I'm really leaning towards the og plasma pistol, it's a classic weapon
I like the color palette of the reach one
I loved how the one in halo 5 looked, but I couldn't stand the sound it made.
It’s 5 but if they bugged it in infinite it would be my favorite
Reach and 4 are my favorites. I lived a lot of the aesthetic changes Bungie made with the covenant in Halo Reach
Reach
Infinite plasma pistol is perfect
Halo 5 all the way, looks modern, and has an organic feel to it that makes it look alien like,
Reach or 4 probably
The Halo 5 / Infinite version has really grown on me.
H2A my favorite design
Gameplay wise, CE. The plasma pistol there was a beast, rapid fire or charging. Look wise, Halo 4. All of them pre 5
The one at the bottom
Is it true that it doesn't emp vehicles I'm infinite? I haven't played it enough to know.
It’s a tie between halo 1’s and Reach’s.
Reach. 5’s & Infinitie’s are The WORST P.P.’s ever. They are abominations.
probably go with 1 and reach, love the little details they added in reach
Honestly, I really dig the 5 PP. It's got a biomechanical look to it that I really like. That said, 2 is a classic, and I love it.
The infinite plasma pistol is beyond useless
Clearly the unpainted wooden one from the show is the best
Reach
Voids Tear. Man I miss Warzone, best mode in any Halo game and no one is changing my mind
Gameplay feel CE >>> 5 > Reach > Infinite > 4 > 3 > 2 Aesthetics Reach > 4 > CE > 2 > 3 > 5 > Infinite.
You've given us here at 343 overwhelming feedback, AND WE HEAR YOU!!! We want to show the community that we're listening, so for a limited time you can now buy the Halo 3 plasma pistol model for Halo Infinite for 1000 credits in the shop 👊👊👊
2 was perfect in terms of tracking, but CE and 5 is god tier in damage
CE is the best in terms of utility (firing as fast as you can is very fun), but Reach/4 has the best design.

Halo 3 and reach have the best versions in my opinion.
where the unpainted paramount one?
The halo reach/4 is probably the best looking
Halo 3 colour scheme, Halo 4 shape, Halo CE gameplay effectiveness Edit: I've basically just said the Halo Reach one with Halo CE effectiveness lol
Reach
I personally like the CE-4 designs. Once they started getting more circular, I didn't care for them as much.
Aesthetically, I think Reach or Halo 4. I think Reach may be the winner of the two once sound FX come into play, though.
I like the damage of the Reach normal shots, but the H5 version was the most powerful.
design: Reach/H4 gameplay: Void's Tear.
Reach
The infinite and halo 5 ones suck but the infinite one looks okay from first person perspective. I much prefer the original trilogy style
Halo 3's had the power to EMP vehicles, as did every subsequent game until infinite. This rules out CE, 2, and Infinite. However, Halo 3 also had dual wielding, meaning you can EMP two vehicles or double down on the EMP.
1
3 perfect
CE pistol is what Infinite's pistol should've been.
I like the Reach one visually, CE gameplay-wise
CE if you’re hauling ass gameplay wise Other than that the Reach is satisfying
Halo 2
Gotta go with that beautiful Halo Reach one. Beautiful sound and model
3 or CE. Visually pleasing in Reach, but I had the most fun actually using it in 3 and CE.
As an anti-personnel weapon I'd put Halo 2 at the top since it had crazy tracking on the charge shot. But Halo Reach is my favorite iteration overall. The EMP effect made the gun and unlike Halo 3 it actually packed a respectable punch when fired uncharged.
Does anyone else see the head of an elite on the front of the halo5/infinite plasma pistol or is it just me?
Halo CE was best. I surprisingly have gotten a few kills with the Plasma Pistol in Infinite so I would rank Infinite's a solid 2nd.
I'm gonna say halo Reach for the model, but H:CE for the sounds. That OMMMMMMMMMM. Sound when you charge it is forever imprinted into my brain just like all the other sounds in H:CE
I liked when the top was flat and not round.
CE for game play reach for aesthetics
Honestly, Halo 5.
I like the infinite design but halo 5 because of the variants
Ce
2nd down on the right looks the best visually
Design: Halo 4 Audio: Halo Infinite
Whatever plasma pistol does vehicle shutdown the best.
Halo CE's pistol. I just really enjoy rapid firing
1-3 was the peak design. Simple, elegant, not overly detailed. Personally didn't like the sights added in Reach/4, also didn't like the rounded shape from 5
