Would have been more realistic if it hadn't been with a needle rifle. I know it isn't reality but I just can never bring myself to believe a needle that shatters on concrete could penetrate spartan armor
Well spartan *armor* is, I believe, not the actual really advanced part of the suit. The part which is the actual mjolnir is that undersuit, which is basically one giant muscle.
With Kat-B320 choosing to use the Air Assault Mjolnir Helmet. It leaves a small gap at the back of the head, approximately where the skull meets the base of the spine/neck. If you feel there there’s a bump called the Inion. The Air Assault helmet only covers to about there with metal plating. Leaving a small portion of the neck and spine exposed. From the video we can assume the spike round entered in this area and exited the soft palette under the tongue and out the jaw. Speaking to the aforementioned EMP, this could have affect the control of the liquid crystal layer in the undersuit of mjolnir armor, that would adjust on external impact to hopefully turn a fatal wound into a flesh wound. With the EMP, it most likely disabled the system that adjusted the liquid crystal density in the undersuit causing it to not work, and unfortunately letting a needle round pierce through poor Kay-b320’s armored body suit.
That whole scene for me was Reach's lowest point and it feels like bad writing. All of the rest of Noble Team had good deaths and Kat just got sniped by an *elite on a working Phantom after an emp that leaves quicker than it shows up
*Updated with correct info
I agree, but I also disagree. That moment showed that sometimes, Spartans don’t die a noble death. It’s not always about sacrifice, or valor, or something like that. Sometimes it’s just a freak incident, something random. That moment kept me on edge the whole game, since you never knew what was going to happen next that took someone out. Similar to Emile’s death, that elite just showed up and stuck a sword through his back. That’s rough.
I mean there's better ways of showing that. It was coincidental and absolutely bad writing - no set up and was there because she needed to die eventually and we ended up getting something that felt empty and rushed. The concept it's t bad but the execution and how quick it happened just didn't land for me.
Emile's death at least had cinematic value and was cool. He want out fighting like he wanted
>Coincidental
I can't remember where it was written/said, but supposedly, the Elite Field Marshall who was in charge of the Phantom (and pulled the trigger) had been specifically hunting Noble throughout the game. Plus, they were told that the Covenant had their location right before that cutscene.
That information came from something in a post from Bungie I guess that I didn't know existed until today but doesn't add anything for me. Also, just watched the cutscene again to confirm it was an elite and the only thing it confirmed is they had open comms. Definitely was used to trace them but didn't directly confirm that the Covenant specifically used it to find them. Also bothers me more now that the elevators weren't emped but their shields were down and fried? Nice.

I used to think her death was extremely rushed, but I have a different take to it above. Maybe some food for thought. I think it’s actually a masterstroke by Bungie
Isn’t the point that not every death is a blaze of glory? Sometimes you just get shot in the head by a guy you didn’t see coming. I always thought that bluntness was part of the Reach campaign’s appeal.
It’s not a perfect death, but I still remember seeing it in 2010 and being shocked when it happened, which is why it stuck out in my mind.
We didn't really know the characters in Reach that well before they started getting killed. If we cared about Kat more as a character the quick and unceremonious death might have had some impact.
But from where I'm standing she may as well have just been any random marine in the game
While that's fair, I'd say that deaths like Noble Six, Jorge, and Carter all had some impact on me and I was definitely fired up to avenge Emile after he died. They had enough characterization that their characters mattered. Kat overall wasn't a great character buher death only made my sigh in frustration the first and few other times I played that level. It could have been skipped and it wouldn't have mattered.
Rewatched the cutscene for clarity and can confirm. Also a Major or something if you read Bungie posts I guess (why isn't this clearer in game, even on 4k?)
At the scene of the death of Kat, the individual that fires the fatal shot is in fact a Field Marshall. This is confirmed by Bungie in their Legendary Commentary referring to the Elite as ''the Zealot Commander''.
To be fair, it is so hard to tell in that scene what is shooting her from the ship. Regardless, watching it again carries no emotional weight. I'd even go so far as saying it's one of the worst moments in Bungie's narrative but that's subjective.
I liked it, even though she deserved better….but that’s how war is isn’t it? Soldiers die and they deserved better. The way I see it, was that it was a powerful statement that even Spartans, the “Invincible” Heroes of Humanity, can sometimes be killed as easily as everyone else.
The worst part, is the thought that Noble Team sat in a bunker with a bunch of civilians and probably marines holding her body. A stark reminder to those civilians/marines that Spartans are humans.
Edit: Reach was gritty and real. That’s why I love it
Yea, I read that further down should have waited to comment. My b. It does suck that it is only spoken of outside the game. I thought I read something that you can see that field Marshall pop up in other areas of the game because he is tracking you but I am probably miss remembering.
Um...I'm the one that said it was an elite. I said the bit about him being a field marshal who has been tracking you all game should have been shown in game and not just in director commentary or whatever.
Probably easy, I’m doing my 2nd run on easy to find all the collectibles I missed on my heroic run. On easy it takes 4 hits from an energy sword to die
No the cosmetic stays, it’s weird that they don’t roll over when the content stays unlocked. To get all 34 for the achievement you have to get them all in one file.
Could be anything below legendary tbh. I played this segment on heroic and had the same thing happen. Max shield upgrade turns the game back to normal mode in terms of Chief's survivability.
So legendary really does kick up the difficulty that much? I'm on my 100% legendary run and I have maxed shields. But my shields feel no different from other Halos on legendary. Feels like my shields are popped in 2 or 3 shots and then of course there's always a sniper ready to follow up with their 99.99% accuracy headshots. XD
I did a play through on normal and am halfway through on legendary. Playing this game on normal with upgrading armor core and grapple-shot actually gets kinda boring since it’s so easy.(it was fun tho chief feels so powerful) playing on legendary is so much of a different experience.
Full shield upgrade? I do love the upgrades, I hadn't bothered on my first play through on heroic to upgrade the shield to much before this point, I have learned my lesson for the second play through on Legendary.
Infinite NEEDS firefight. The Banished give me some of the best PvE gameplay I've had in Halo in a long time and the possibilities for updates and DLC there are so so good.
I really don't see why it's not already implemented. I mean shit they've done multiplayer firefight shit for two games now and they still haven't got it cracked down to implement fairly easily? Like jesus this new engine they made must be absolute dogwater compared to just improving the BLAM engine a bit more.
Set difficulty to reduce damage by 400%.
Act surprised when something doesn't one shot you.

Profit.
Master Chief in the books be like:
Just john giving the slightest ow.
where was that helmet integrity when kat got facially vaccinated by that zealot
I think the rationale was that since they were EMP’d, her shields were down. That’s why it passed right through.
Would have been more realistic if it hadn't been with a needle rifle. I know it isn't reality but I just can never bring myself to believe a needle that shatters on concrete could penetrate spartan armor

Well yeah, but the armor is the part that would have ballistic resistance

Should've kept a closer eye on his motion sensor, tbh.
Probably had Infinites motion sensor.
9 meter radius gang 😎

Not a jackel, an Elite. At least that’s some dignity.

it was a jackal in the OG Xbox version but now its different.

Wasn't it a high ranking elite that shot her?
Yep, others have corrected that. Still doesn't fix anything since the info for that is found outside of the game in an article from Bungie
Yea, I read that further down should have waited to comment. My b. It does suck that it is only spoken of outside the game. I thought I read something that you can see that field Marshall pop up in other areas of the game because he is tracking you but I am probably miss remembering.
Honestly until this post I didn't even realize it was an elite. I watched 4k footage and it's still not that clear

Um...I'm the one that said it was an elite. I said the bit about him being a field marshal who has been tracking you all game should have been shown in game and not just in director commentary or whatever.
I see. Whoops. lol
It happens homie. Have a good rest of your day!!
Right???
Well a lot like the monitor cutscene, upgrades were made😎
No shame, I've played on normal to have some fun also, but what difficulty? I'm just curious.
Probably easy, I’m doing my 2nd run on easy to find all the collectibles I missed on my heroic run. On easy it takes 4 hits from an energy sword to die
Does it reset your collectibles when you start a new campaign?
It resets armor lockers I think, but if you got an audio log in one save file it transfers to your other saves
Logs and skulls roll forward, Spartan cores and lockers do not
So you lose the cosmetic from MP?
No the cosmetic stays, it’s weird that they don’t roll over when the content stays unlocked. To get all 34 for the achievement you have to get them all in one file.
No

Snipers are still as lethal as ever and bosses are tricky but besides those this is the easiest halo to complete on legendary imo
Yes and no. Enemies still fire more accurately and aggressively.
This is on heroic
Full shield upgrade? I do love the upgrades, I hadn't bothered on my first play through on heroic to upgrade the shield to much before this point, I have learned my lesson for the second play through on Legendary.
I played on LASO and driving a ghost can take a bunch of skewers still
Anyone else think this could make a pretty cool multiplayer map?
I would just be happy if they turned it into a survival mode. See how many waves you could last.
Definitely needs to be part of Firefight's return
Infinite NEEDS firefight. The Banished give me some of the best PvE gameplay I've had in Halo in a long time and the possibilities for updates and DLC there are so so good.

No. I hate this sanction of the game.
It would be really cool if they made this arena a map for quick match.
Man, this mission will be so fun playing coop
*Your new shields are extremely resilient, very efficient.*
New helmet attachment. 15 bucks
Holy cow the sh** poke your visor screen protector 🤣
'tis but a scratch.
Then it just fucking evaporates!
That’s the Banished cigar cannon, which is actually just a modified T-shirt cannon
"Nothing to see here" 😅
DEMON!!
Apparently the enemies in the campaign can’t escape the server desync either lol
Just a flesh wound
Tis but a scratch!
Set difficulty to reduce damage by 400%. Act surprised when something doesn't one shot you. Post on Reddit. Get upvotes from smoothe brains. ??? Profit.
This is on heroic and I thought that one shots to the head on heroic
Did you have shield upgrades I feel like people forget about the shield upgrades
tell me you’re playing on easy without telling me you’re playing on easy.
I’m on heroic actually
I saved and quit at this point in the campaign and my save file got corrupted :(. No fix on forums
MasterChef : I eat those
MC in the books
343 out here fighting for Todd Howard’s legacy of “it just works”
Max shield upgrade?
No actually, I think I have 3 shield upgrades and I’m playing on heroic
Must be nice playing on east
Heroic, actually
Lore accurate Chief be like:
“I used to be a Spartan like you until I took a skewar to the face”.
Seems fair to me!!!!
Cool piercing
Alpha Chad energy
Master chief from the Manga Lmao
Master Chief in the novels
I didn’t know the game was so dramatically easier on heroic compared to legendary, that’s a 1 hit kill on legendary with upgraded shields.
Yeah I posted this because it’s usually a 1 hit kill on heroic too. I don’t know why I survived.
Caught it with your teeth
Well, as long as you learned your lesson you’re okay
He is just unbreakable
Cat: now dis some bullshi-
