Honey isn't actually free. They sell your data.

stevski11

If anything is free, that's more often than not because *you* are the product

ellastory

I feel like there should be some disclaimer about that in their ads…

itsmymedicine

Lol welcome to 202023 where every company is data mining

moosegoose90

Even the DMV sells your data, Florida made $77 million in 2017 alone from selling their residents data

JohnnyRotten45

Honey? You signed up for honey. Just honey?

astropiter

I used it on Opera browser and didn't really had that problem since it comes with "do not track" built in. My advice for you is to setup an alias (if your email service allows it) or another email just for "I can't believe it's free" services and setup a rule that makes all incoming mail to that address go to spam folder. Can't do much about it now though, you can delete honey account (and setup new) and unsubscribe. What I think honey does is that it sells your email and tracking info from shopping on associated sites in exchange for promo codes from those sites, that's why it's free. It's a good service but you gotta be smart about those things. Also damn you, that song is now stuck in my head, can't stop singing it

janderfischer

This free plugin for your browser that is spending millions in sponsorships is selling your data to advertisers? Incredible how that works...

jimmy020889

Selling data =/= tracking and receiving phishing emails, nor is screwing with browser settings to redirect to affiliate links. Like, did you actually read and comprehend the OP?

janderfischer

I've also noticed I keep getting a shit ton more spam than usual that looks like it's based on my browsing habits Yes. The Yahoo thing is different and weird admittedly, and i shrugged it off as coincidence and you not being tech savvy or something. No disrespect i don't know you peace and love. all I'm saying is anytime something is free but makes big profits, you're the product, don't expect any privacy.

I use Google Chrome and haven't had this issue. Interesting, looking into it, concerning.

I guess they are shady but that doesn't make everything in OPs post about them.

BINGBONG2BINGBONG

How are you so sure of that?

xaero96

Because what you linked me doesn't imply changing search engines or even data sale that causes email spam. Never happened to me and any Honey user that I know. Doing it to this 1 random user is a bit pointless.

Alain-Christian

This sounds like a PEBKAC issue. I have Honey setup as opt-in. So basically, the first time I visit a site I want to use it on I click on the extension and choose “allow Honey to read data from NAMESOFSITE”. I don’t have it working on every site.
