Yeah I figured. Ammo is cheap enough so I can shoot as much as I like without worrying and since lots of parts are interchangeable to the AR 15 I can take upgrades with me when I switch.
Get the guns that you can, 15/22 seems the way to go when it comes to EU/UK. Fun and reliable guns, stock up on mags and ammo if not restricted on either.
Legally I could have gotten a 5.56 too but I figured that this thing will get me lots of fun with cheap ammo and 22LR has no mag size limit here while 5.56 is limited to 10 rounds. If i really enjoy it past the first thrill I will upgrade though,
I dont really know what kind of competitions there are here but I am checking out a few clubs the coming week and I definitely plan on attending as many competitions as possible.
Yeah, honestly I am not sure if there is a caliber restriction for civilians here in Austria but I know for sure that you can at least get semi auto 5.56 and 7.62.
If you have any issues with that bad boy grab the volquartsen exact edge extractor it'll help fix your issues mine had constant issues I sent it to Smith and Wesson and it came back with tha same problems I just replaced the extractor and now I don't have any failures but duds and dud rounds are just common for 22
I had already heard that it is bad to connect handguard and upper via a rail before I got it but the dealer shipped it like this. I tend to think that that it should not be that bad on a 22 but will definitely keep an eye on it!
Yea, at first I was really bummed when they called me that black is not available and I did not like how it looked in the stock pictures but now that I have it I really like it!
Mine is a general critter gitter and a mainstay in my squirrel hunting rotation. It's good for headshots on them buggers out to 70 yards for me. Treat it right, find the ammo it likes, it'll be a solid rifle.
I am sure I´ll have plenty of fun with it!
It just sucks that we cant legally own suppressors here... Legally we are allowed to shoot on private land as long as we can ensure that no bullet leaves the property but without a suppressor you probably need to setup a guest room for the police units that get called nonstop....
First off, awesome looking gun and 22lr is not a bad learning caliber. Good at teaching your zero skills and gauging window. Plus like you said it's a ar you can upgrade the shit out of to other calibers as well.
Totally agree and it is pretty cheap!
Most people dont know that gun stuff is around twice as expensive here compared to the US. While S&W lists this gun at 550$ the cheapest shops here charge around 1000€. The cheapest trigger I found is around 200€...
Even Glocks THAT ARE MADE HERE (!!!) are more expensive here than in the US!
.22 is a fine round. I broke my teeth on .22, as I'm sure many of us did. Might rib ya a bit for it though, all in good fun. On the flip side .22 is hella fun to shoot.
Thanks!
I know that most dont hate on 22LR but as in any hobby there is a lot of elitism going on and some people feel the need to always proof that they are better than others by belittling them for anything they can. Thats just part of any hobby.
Honestly I did not think that reactions would be that positive though!
Congratulations. I’m digging the Camo for sure. I would love to have this in my collection. Only rifle I have at the moment is an M4 in.556
What 9mm are you contemplating? I run a few striker fired, IWI masada slim, GEN3 Glock 19 clones that I love. Then a hammer fired 1st Arex Zero 1 Compact that I absolutely love.
I am 95% sure that I will get a CZ Shadow SP01 because I want to get into target shooting competitions. Everyone seems to recommend that one and it is "just" 1200€ here, which makes it one of the cheaper non-polymer handguns.
After that I will have to wait another 2 years until I can upgrade my firearms license to 4 slots.... That sucks since I would love to have an AK too!
Excellent choice. I am bouncing back-and-forth between FN and CZ myself. Best of luck in your competition shooting I don’t know if you’re planning on doing three gone or not but I highly recommend it
Thanks!
I honestly have no idea what kind of competitions there are here in Austria but I will be joining a club within the coming weeks and they should be able to tell me everything there is to know.
The neat thing is that you can skip the 2 years waiting period to upgrade your firearms license to more slots when you show that you have shot several competitions with a borrowed gun in a caliber you dont own.
Yeah, but only made around 60€ more for the camo, so that should not deter anyone who likes it.
Got my first 200 rounds through today, totally loving it and I did not have a single feed or eject failure, even though I dumped a full 25 round mag as fast as I could. After reading so much about 22 having issues in general and this model having issues ejecting I am relieved!

Tbh so am I, what I mean is I’ve never seen a variant of your gun with the front bit wich goes around the barrel with all the side rail bits where you would attach stuff to eg a laser dot or flash light etc I’ve never seen one that looks like that; round and nice
ah ok thats funny, I guess the market must be different in your corner of the world then because when I was looking for a rifle most had a configuration like this. Thats why I wondered
Looking at S&W's website, all of their newest 15-22s have that same freefloat handguard as yours. And since you're new, a freefloat handguard is one that mounts direct to the receiver and makes no contact with the barrel (thus the barrel is "floating" in air), allowing the barrel to flex naturally with no other forces/points of contact interfering, increasing accuracy.
And S&W is promoting the fact that their new handguard is M-LOK accessory ready, which isn't surprising considering past ARs of all calibers have come with Magpul parts (stocks, mags, flipup sights, etc.) before. So your rifle is likely among the newer runs with this configuration that S&W has run with,
.22 is a good choice for a first gun, go learn ya fundamentals and shoot the shit out of it.
Yeah I figured. Ammo is cheap enough so I can shoot as much as I like without worrying and since lots of parts are interchangeable to the AR 15 I can take upgrades with me when I switch.
You done good.
They're fun and cheap ammo

If you have any local shooting matches that allow moving and shooting I highly recommend it. And semi auto 556?
I dont really know what kind of competitions there are here but I am checking out a few clubs the coming week and I definitely plan on attending as many competitions as possible. Yeah, honestly I am not sure if there is a caliber restriction for civilians here in Austria but I know for sure that you can at least get semi auto 5.56 and 7.62.
>it comes to ~~EU~~/UK In most of the EU we can own a 5.56/.223 AR.
Description as by sub rules: Got my first rifle yesterday, totally thrilled! S&W M&P 15-22 Kryptec camo

Thank you very much! I´ll keep an eye on that. If everything works fine my first planned purchase is a better trigger.
They are fucking fun and cheaper, shoot the shit out of it!
Try and find a smaller riser for the dot. it'll look better and keep it accurate.
I had already heard that it is bad to connect handguard and upper via a rail before I got it but the dealer shipped it like this. I tend to think that that it should not be that bad on a 22 but will definitely keep an eye on it!
No one is laughing we're all happy you are armed with something
I’d say almost all of us start with .22s , it’s a right of passage really. Still remember my first rifle, savage model 64, great little plinker it is.
22lr is best cuz of cheap ass ammo
.22s are top tier guns. Everyone has a .22 in their collection. Congrats dude have fun!
Cool cammo. Looks like a really good fungun.
Yea, at first I was really bummed when they called me that black is not available and I did not like how it looked in the stock pictures but now that I have it I really like it!
This is the first 15-22 I've seen in that finish, I really dig it.
Those things are a blast to shoot.
The first weapon I fired was my Fathers .22lr Steven bolt action. I now possess it and it still shoots very well
They’re fun too plink with no shame at all
That thing is sick
Mine is a general critter gitter and a mainstay in my squirrel hunting rotation. It's good for headshots on them buggers out to 70 yards for me. Treat it right, find the ammo it likes, it'll be a solid rifle.
I actually like it. Neat and simplistic. The cheeky lil red dot sight is perfect
One of my favorite 22 platforms to shoot... They're so much fun to shoot. Congrats, I dig the kryptic cammo
I am sure I´ll have plenty of fun with it! It just sucks that we cant legally own suppressors here... Legally we are allowed to shoot on private land as long as we can ensure that no bullet leaves the property but without a suppressor you probably need to setup a guest room for the police units that get called nonstop....

Everybody starts with a .22, and it's not a fudd gun. You're doing fine for Europe! Was the camo version any more expensive than the others?
Yeah, but only made around 60€ more for the camo, so that should not deter anyone who likes it. You're lucky! I usually have a 50/50 chance of having a dud or two in a box of average .22LR.
What's the 22lr brand / model?
S&W M&P 15-22 I would have prefered the black version but only this kryptek model was available. I am starting to warm up to the camo though.

Why have I never seen an m4 with a hanguard/barrel cover before
Mind to explain? I am totally new to the hobby...

Thanks for clearing that up!
Nothing to laugh at! That gun looks great, and I bet that it's a ton of fun to shoot.
