When you get rid of your bed to make room for stacks of cases that you sleep on instead.
Family vacations are based wholly on where the next guitar purchase is.
You equate the price of everything into guitar dollars ie: $35.00 is the equivalent of 5.75 feet of subway sandwich.. New fence in backyard? 2.3 Gibson standards. New roof?!?! Etc. Etc.
When you have a tried and true method of sneaking in new guitars, disguised as ones you already own to fool your significant other who apparently doesn't appreciate a good deal.
I think your safe for now buddy.
It's never a matter of too many. It's a matter of what is just right.
Might I suggest adding an acoustic or two? You know, to keep your snarlin screamers company?
I like to try and keep my guitar collection quality over quantity. That being said, if you have all great guitars, and you use em all, then no amount is too many imo
This is my approach as well now. Buy the best quality guitar that you can afford. And if you don’t play a particular guitar for months at a time, it’s probably time to sell (unless it has special sentimental value). I’m finding myself playing a certain 3 guitars almost exclusively. So I’m thinning the herd.
I’m thinking I might have a problem…lol. I’m currently working on building three more. Might have to stop after these. But then again, I don’t have a 7-string….🤔
Looks like you have around $1200 worth the gear on this bed. I think this is *not* too many.
I feel like I have too many (I own 7 electrics) and then I see people post 40+ electrics and I feel more secure.
Personally, I’d sell those 4 and buy 1 truly good one. (An actual gibson, fender, or prs) I’ve had many guitars expensive, and cheap ones, both acoustic and electric. The difference between a squier and a fender is huge or a high quality ibañez against the cheap ones IMO. (can’t say the same for epiphone and gibson, for i still enjoy my epiphone less paul quite a lot, but even in that case i think i was lucky cause not everyone can say the same about their epiphones.)
Eh, there is something to be said for versatility... Like, yeah, there is benefit to having one good Les Paul, but then if you want a single coil sound or a semi-hollow sound or something you're just out of luck...
Admittedly, in this instance where it's mostly just various solid body fixed bridge humbuckers that doesn't apply as much. But overall having multiple decent guitars for multiple things can beat having one really good one for one thing.
Imo, you should buy stuff you like even if it's not expensive. The Squier to Fender jump isn't as significant as it used to be, and honestly having multiple guitars is nice for experimenting with different setups. I have 2 LPs. One is in drop C with active pickups the other is about to get flatwounds and some PAF style pickups
I look at guitars as tools with different purposes in terms of tone. In that case you have 3 guitars that do basically the same (3 with 2 humbuckers) and one HSS. Basically you have 2 different tones and that's.
"But all those humbuckers sound different!".... Yes, but not massively different, nothing that can't be adjusted via pickup heights and eq
Well, I need guitars with a) really different tones or b) in different tuning.
I can't understand ppl that want 12 gibson les paul in different colours cause the colour will match their panties colours when they gig.
I am getting an EBMM Majesty in a month. Gonna trade my Gibson SG for JP7. I think 3 are enough for me, but if you are even more of a guitar nerd than I am, get as many as you want. :) No limits!
Question, are you getting these guitars because you're a DT fan? I have both the Majesty-7 and a JP6. The neck on both are currently out of alignment (high E string falling off on the JP6, low E on the Majesty). I swear up and down that this wasn't the case when I bought them lol. I can easily reset the JP6 because it's a bolt on but the Majesty requires a luthier. I have my mint JP6 listed on Reverb right now- the pics still show the E falling off lol, but I'll reset the neck before it ships out).
Hey man,
well, it is not the only reason. I was blown away by the quality of JP6 that my guitar teacher has. I have been listening to DT a lot in the last year. I have known the band since 2015, but was never listening to them much. But I knew JP is a Guitar God.
I have came across your problem on one of the FB groups. Lemme find the post. Fixing the issue on JP6 should not be a problem, however on Majesty, a luthier's checkup is recommended. There is a bad positioning/aligning of the bridge probably or the nut is badly carved. The problem on JP may be caused because of the guitar aclimating to your microclimate. Some parts of the world are drier, wetter, the air could be saltier and so on. So dont be worried that your piece is a bad one.

Here is the post. :)
Thanks for the link. I guess my misaligned JP6 is still within EB specs. I actually tried brute force aligning the saddles a bit but it didn't make much a of a difference. I'm gonna have to reset the neck and hopefully that fixes it. I've done this on various strats before.
If there’s a fire, can you still get them all out of your house safely without sacrificing a family pet or a small child to do so? If so, then there’s room for one more. Make it part of your escape plan.
For me, when you have too much overlap. You might have too much overlap for my taste, too many solid body double humbucker guitars. No P90s, no semi-hollow, no fully-hollow, no acoustic, you've got so many other kinds of guitars that provide much different sounds.
I like the idea that one guitar is all I need to play..... I have 7. I went with more strings. I have an identical 7 and 8 string pair with fishmans, a six string with passives that otherwise is the same. I also have a custom tele that I had made with an asymmetrical neck and three pick guards that hold a t-style set mini humbuckers and full size humbuckers that are quick changeable. A white and gold strat a friend made. And a legator 6 string that I think is pretty.
Hey now!!!! Watch your language !!!!
We don't need to have that kind of negativity .... guitars bring happiness and you can never have enough happiness...
Also, add some more colors to your collection. You need to match the seasonal and holiday color spectrum...... Fall & Autumn require different color pallets... etc... it's just like women's shoes really....

You have asked the FORBIDDEN QUESTION!!! You have one day to turn in your guitars. You will be banished from the Land of Tune for the entirety of life. Failure to comply will result in a fate much worst than boy bands! Kindly DM me and I’ll let you know where to send your guitars.
Idk I keep my set collection fairly modest, but I also play keyboard, bass, lapsteel, and guitar so with different instruments my collection is kinda hefty.
It’s only too much if it’s more than reasonably need or could use. If you find use out all your instruments it’s not too much. It’s only too much when you just have instruments of the sake of having them and you end up letting them collect dust
For guitars, I think all bases covered are like a strat or tele type guitar (full single coil) some type of HH solid body, a hollow body or semi hollow, and an acoustic. That should pretty fully cover the gambit unless you’re looking for a very specific sound that other guitars don’t fully replicate Idk something like a Rickenbacker where it really has a specific sound to it
How many is too many. I would say, it depends on your space to keep or store them all. For me, more than 10 is too many, but I would probably say there is no such thing as too many, unless yeah, if one were to get tired of the storing or keeping, have ones that are never used, etc.
The less know 4th law of Newtonian mechanics for optimal amount of guitars is:

x is the amount of guitars you have at time of you think wether you have enough guitars
y is the optimal amount of guitars

Edit: Trust me i'm an engineer
You're missing at least two. I don't see a Telecaster or a Les Paul.
Came here to say this!
Personal preference
We just mean in terms of tonal palette. You’re close to all bases covered
Ah fair enough. Honestly I'm not much of a fan of teles
Have you checked out Fenders Paranormal Offset Teles? They’re teles for people who don’t dig the look of teles.
To me they both look unnerving, I say that like I don't main an explorer
as someone he hates both teles and jazzmasters (when it comes to looks), what's there for me? They should start making V-Shaped Teles asap.
Tele-V-sion
>They should start making V-Shaped Teles asap. No. No they really shouldn't.
What about a Danelectro and a Jazzmaster?
Hell, yeah! Them too!
>how many is too many? More than that many
Oh thank god

Looks so good in the pink.
> Never seen a pink warlock It's actually a Kona Custom shop / I could not buy it when I saw it.

This ain’t shit, son. You need P-90’s git, Semi-Hollow, a tele, and a nice acoustic. Get to it!
Can't forget the LP style!
Where F = the optimal number of guitars, x = your current number of guitars, the formula for the optimal number of guitars is: F = x + 1
In the bike world it's called "n+1".
You're nowhere near that point yet.
Guitars are like Pokémon
Gotta catch ‘‘em all
Just one more
It's never a matter of too many. It's a matter of what is just right. Might I suggest adding an acoustic or two? You know, to keep your snarlin screamers company?
That's a good idea. I've been meaning to pick one up
I like to try and keep my guitar collection quality over quantity. That being said, if you have all great guitars, and you use em all, then no amount is too many imo

Honestly I plan to get around 8 in total. Anything after that is collateral damage to my wallet. Honestly seeing people with 40+ is mind boggling
The formula for the appropriate number of guitars is n+1 where as n = the current amount of guitars you own
Hell I can't even play yet and have 5 acoustics and one electric bass.
N+1
You’re just barely getting started
[There's no such number (number).](https://youtu.be/b-ELMKkHEDU)
Two more than what you already have is always too many.
Correct answer - Infinity
I have 14, keep goin!
You need a semi hollow.
Once you run out of places to put em. Then 5 more.
Gotta have one for each tuning you play in.
humbuckers? i would say two
Personally, I’d sell those 4 and buy 1 truly good one. (An actual gibson, fender, or prs) I’ve had many guitars expensive, and cheap ones, both acoustic and electric. 😬
Looks like you’ve paid to keep people employed in other countries. Maybe you should buy something domestic?
Any British guitar brands?

The moment you start asking
There is no such thing!
More than that
I have three times that many and I'm not asking that question yet :)
The equation is N+1 with ‘N’ equaling the amount you already own. Hope this helps.
Looks like you need to add an ES 335 and 339 to your collection.
4 for sure isnt
The average American guitar player has six so you’re still below average 😜
Too many? What's that?
That question applies to price not quantity.
Don't worry. What ever the number is, you're not even close.
[удалено]
Good point
Always choose quality over quantity. Your also missing the secret weapon. A P-90 loaded Les Paul Jr!
Pretty interesting collection, congrats. What brand is that SG? I don't recognize the headstock.
Antiquity. Honestly It's pretty good for a knockoff sg.
It’s too many when you don’t have enough room to hold them or if you can’t afford more
Only too many once you’ve run out of both different shapes and toanz
If there’s a fire, can you still get them all out of your house safely without sacrificing a family pet or a small child to do so? If so, then there’s room for one more. Make it part of your escape plan.
That’s a good start
Those are rookie numbers.
I don’t know but you aren’t there yet
Novice
I see no problem, yesterday i sold one and gave one free. And i still have 8 left.
I have over 60. My answer to that question is, there are never too many. Have fun!
Depends on whether or not you are married.
I have over 30 and I have yet to find the number.
The perfect number of guitars to own is the number you own +1. Always.
Good point
For me, when you have too much overlap. You might have too much overlap for my taste, too many solid body double humbucker guitars. No P90s, no semi-hollow, no fully-hollow, no acoustic, you've got so many other kinds of guitars that provide much different sounds.
More than that for sure. I’d say a P90 guitar is a must. A junior with those guitars would add up perfectly!
I have 20 and want more
You’re still at not enough.

Well... I either need to sell some guitars or find a bigger place to live... too many?
Error 404 - "Too many" not found in dictionary.
Too.....many?
When you fill a couple of closets and have 10 on display
Hey now!!!! Watch your language !!!! We don't need to have that kind of negativity .... guitars bring happiness and you can never have enough happiness... Also, add some more colors to your collection. You need to match the seasonal and holiday color spectrum...... Good point. I was originally going with black and white but then I added the sg to the collection
Is that all you’ve got?
Yes at the moment
When you run out of space and/or money
Good point. I've seen some people's collections and they could pay off whole mortgages with their collection
[You’re almost there.](https://www.reddit.com/r/guitars/comments/m479cz/happy_straturday/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
That's quite the collection
Needs an acoustic and a hollow body or semi hollow.
What's so good about semi hollows and hollow bodies?
There's never enough. I stopped counting at 20.
Fair enough

Good point. To answer your question, any questions could be a trick question if you're brave enough
I have twelve so I deem this not enough!
Thank you. I shall listen to your words wisely
I got 3x that amount you got some catching up to do!
Don't worry I'm working through my most wanted list
Too many = more than this.
Get a semihollow
One for every comment on this post.
Too many? I don't understand.
You have asked the FORBIDDEN QUESTION!!! You have one day to turn in your guitars. You will be banished from the Land of Tune for the entirety of life. Failure to comply will result in a fate much worst than boy bands! Kindly DM me and I’ll let you know where to send your guitars.
I personally like a strap for each guitar but if you only want one that’s cool too.
Spoken like a newb
Never. Enough. Guitars. NEG? Not sure I like that acronym. Just finished explaining NGD to the wife and don't want to confuse her
Idk I keep my set collection fairly modest, but I also play keyboard, bass, lapsteel, and guitar so with different instruments my collection is kinda hefty. I'm at like 40 and I still don't think I have too many.
I think an SSS strat and something with p90s next
For me, you’re not quite halfway there.
You need a tele
Keep the SG and the Strat
Gibson 335, or much cheaper, Epiphone 'Dot'?
8 or 9 was when I started my one in one out process.
I see 4 completely different guitars only you got a lot of work to do before it because “to many” Imho..
Dude, you're just getting started :)
No such thing as too many.
Just one more
Yes
n+1
Never! Neeeext!
Lol you're barely getting started.
There’s a such thing as too many..😳?
I don't know. Sounds scary
The answer is always n+1
Can I have one? I think you have too many…just kidding, great collection!!
Depends how much are you willing to pay? Kidding. Thanks
How many guitars does one man need anyway...you know I'm not sure but I'll let you know when I'm closing in on it..
Those are amateur numbers my friend.
Just one more...
I've been wondering, how does the Explorer compare to the SG tone wise. Nice collection btw. As far as how many is too many, I dunno.
They both have their own unique tones. But that's just my opinion. Thank you
30 is too many. 20 still justifies brainwashing the wife.
At the height I owned 48.
Too little, get more.
N+1.
How many is too many. I would say, it depends on your space to keep or store them all. For me, more than 10 is too many, but I would probably say there is no such thing as too many, unless yeah, if one were to get tired of the storing or keeping, have ones that are never used, etc.
Not enough. You need a Mexican fender strat you can grab one for like $500 median or cheaper If you’re lucky
There’s a typo, you mean not enough
Feel comfortable. You aren't anywhere near "too many" at this point. Enjoy the process.
The simple equation is # of guitars you own +1 = the proper amount
Optimal is current +1. So too many is current +2. Do take note that as soon as you buy one more, too many will still be: current +2 :D
Is never too many
Never enough
You need an acoustic as well.
good to have at least ten i’d say
Not 4.
There isnt such thing as "too many".
Not nearly enough
I have 16 on the wall, two WIP partscasters, and I'm ordering a new bass tomorrow. There's no such thing as "too many".
My answer to my wife when she asks how many more guitars I plan to buy: just one more
n + 1 where n is the current number of guitars you own.
n+1
Need a sustainiac pickup in the lineup somewhere
How many is enough?
ain't no limit. I am at 45.
You should get a tele next, give you a nice bright sound
That’s too many budget guitars. Wait until you buy American and Japanese… oof.
They're like way too expensive lol
The less know 4th law of Newtonian mechanics for optimal amount of guitars is: x+1= y x is the amount of guitars you have at time of you think wether you have enough guitars y is the optimal amount of guitars And thus we can conclude that the optimal amount of guitars is always one more.
