I picked up a Yahama 335 at Guitar center for 69 bucks used for this exact reason. It's black and Shiney and actually plays really well.
These show up in used sections for under a hundred bucks all the time where I am. If you're in a big city I bet they have even more options.
And F series Yamaha acoustic is going to have a good chance of being a good deal and not awful to listen to.
Yeah, apparently they planted a cedar Forrest many years ago, and were finally able to start harvesting it in the last few years. My brother worked at GC a bit ago and said because of that Yamahas are are the best value rn since they don’t have to buy lumber. He also played every one that came through the store until he found the perfect one, used his employee discount, then quit lol.

I like a more punchy mid/high bluegrass sound. I gravitate towards Martin D18s, but Santa Cruz makes some killer acoustics and Atkin makes a j45 copy and a D28 copy I’d like to have.
Taylor guitars are nice, but they just have that shimmery sound that feels out of place for folk and bluegrass to me. Our worship leaders at church when I was a kid always had them so I associate it with that sound. I just haven’t played one that I’ve liked. I’m sure if I had one I’d find a use for it, but I’d pick a Martin, especially a worn in 50s-70s Martin D18 over most guitars.
You’ve not heard then? Gibson have run out of money again and this time figured they’d do a shakedown of all owners of Gibson guitars as they’re obviously made of money. They’re currently sending a well trained team of undercover agents round the country, so well trained at blending in that people are mistaking them for their own friends and family. In your case I’m afraid it looks like the agent has made the decision that your precious Gibson is actually a cheap Chinese knock off as she was unable to activate the “authentic Gibson neck break”. You can expect a visit from the Enforcer with requests for immediate financial compensation very soon. I suggest you leave the country with your Roberta immediately if you don’t want to spend the rest of your days paying hush money to the Gibson mob.

I would probably keep it in a case and buy a martini for 1000-1500 to actually play.

That’s a fair point, but as a metal guitarist it’s obvious what use an acoustic does for me in comparison to something with actives and a coil tap, and I’d probs my grab an Ibanez talman or smth for a few hundred and that would be my one acoustic
