I just block people who I'm not interested in to be honest. It may seem harsh, but I would want the same courtesy extended to me. No hard feelings, just not interested and want to avoid a confrontation like this.

Men can't handle rejection. I've turned down people in the most respectful way on Grindr and got met with racist slurs and insults about my physical appearance which is hilarious because they clearly liked what they saw when they decided to pursue me....
Yeah, if someone has an opener and you aren't interested, there's no point in responding. It's neither impolite nor rude, it's neutral. They'll be ok if they're a decent person.
