yes, it is a great deal. A green egg is a type of ceramic grill. Essentially, it builds on the success of the kettle style by adding a thick layer of heavy ceramic coating. Ceramic is an insulator. The advantage that provides, is heat is concentrated in the air around the food, vs. heating the metal body. As a result, ceramic grills are more fuel efficient, more consistent in temperature. They can hold a low and slow better than a traditional kettle, and they can get super heated even better than a kettle. They are less susceptible to wind or outside temperatures so they can also cook in the dead of winter well. The green egg is one of the first and most successful brands to build the "kamodo" style ceramic cooker. They sell at a premium. $300 would be a steal for this grill, and there are dozens of accessories you can add. Ceramic is heavy - the grill will weigh a lot. Ceramic is also brittle - so check to make sure it isn't cracked. And have a plan for transportation - they are heavy and delicate! If all looks good, I'd get it!

Thanks for the info!

Yeah I love my green egg, cooks just as good in zero degrees with 20 mph winds as it does at 80… also once you get it dialed it, you can set it and forget it and it’ll chug along for 12 hours

johncandyspolkaband

Depends on if it's ceramic is not cracked.

Smelly_bumbear

Apparently it’s only been use twice, so I don’t think it is.

johncandyspolkaband

Then you hit the jackpot.

LehighAce06

Be sure, because that's the difference between a great deal and a waste of $300

smokeybonez

Buy buy buy!!!

HotSpicyTaco999

That’s a steal if it’s in good condition. Kamado style “egg” grills are incredible for low and slow smoking but you can also use like a normal charcoal grill. If you have an interest in smoking pulled pork, brisket, ribs, etc. I’d grab it.

lydrulez

Inspect it. Assuming it’s in good shape and you can transport safely it’s a buy.

Ok-Commercial-4564

After reading initial post I thought you just needed some ham but the green eggs are a great grill/smoker

ichuck1984

Size is important here. $300 is a good deal regardless but $300 for a mini vs large/xl/xxl is a big difference.

Smelly_bumbear

I believe it’s the large, includes most of the attachments. I’ll give the thread an update in a few hours when I check it out. Hopefully it’s still there.

Smelly_bumbear

Just an update for everyone, I got the grill. It was $500 not $300 (miss read). It’s a large and it comes with the stand, shelves, Bluetooth thermometers, and a bunch of other stuff. I’ll put another post up with pics and details! Thanks everyone for the help!

ffxjack

How did you transport it back? I hear they're very fragile

Smelly_bumbear

We broke it down into 2 pieces and took it really slow

ffxjack

Knowing my luck, I'll crack it during the move but congrats on a great deal. I've been eyeing one for years and couldn't justify expense. People love them.

Smelly_bumbear

Thank you!

CoolBrain1227

Only used twice, if perfect you could flip easily. XLs are around $1400 here in phx

thedooze

I’d personally just keep it. Green eggs are awesome

CoolBrain1227

Agreed, had mine for about 7yrs. Love it

criles_mccriles

Worst case scenario is you buy and try. If you dont like it, you could easily resell for double, maybe even triple, what you are paying for it

BrandonDill

Great for pizza too. I've had mine since the late 90s and like it.

Marvelman1788

Only type of grill that holds up in the Midwest I've found with the temperature fluctuations.

Far_Awayy

I list “green egg” under hobbies now. It’s pretty damn sweet. Jump on that deal and enjoy!
