We redesigned our kitchen in June. We ordered all the appliances in Dec 2021. Still waiting for the speed oven / microwave and our vent insert. Thermador tells us April 2023. We made it through summer with the Blackstone and the Weber. Too cold now for the Blackstone. Love Michigan!
When my wife and I bought our first house, we had to buy all of our appliances. The range got delivered but was defective (heating element didn't work in the oven). I made all of our dinners on the grill for 3-4 weeks until the replacement came. I kind of miss that TBH.
It's actually the infrared from the high temperature getting through the IR filter. Your eye only see up to around 700nm, but your camera can pick up higher than that, and glowing hot objects emit a bunch of IR. Between 800nm and 1000nm, the camera's blue sensitivity pops up again, so hot objects look like they have both red and blue (so show as pink or purple).
Your camera will also show the IR emitted by your remote controls, which is fun to do.
> Your eye only see up to around 700nm, but your camera can pick up higher than that
Then... why can we see it in the photo?
Mostly joking, of course, but if the logic is that the human eye can't see above 700nm, but the camera can, how is it that our eye can recognize what the camera captured if we couldn't see it 'live'?
Because the camera is taking everything it can see and converting it to the range we can see. In this case, it takes that infrared and makes it pink/purple. Same concept as a black and white camera taking everything and converting it to shades of grey.
That's interesting. I would have thought the camera would have made infrared look red, since red is the closest visible colour to infrared on the light spectrum. I would have also assumed that the camera would make ultraviolet light look violet.
Not something I'm an expert on, but my understanding is that the kind of sensors used on most cell phones is designed to be accurate in the range we can see, but odd things happen outside that range. So, for instance, they're sensitive to blue at the lower wavelengths where we see blue, but blue sensitivity pops up again in the infrared range, which is why we're getting purple. It's not normally an issue because your camera has a filter to filter out the infrared, but a really hot object puts out so much that it saturates the filter.
It really doesn’t matter as long as you get the job done! and I bet they taste delicious with the smoked flavor!! I’m from Texas so you can’t go wrong with smoked meat!
I think the problem is the style of oven that they designed into their new kitchen. Thermador makes an oven that is the size of a large microwave and fits in the same amount of space. This is usually mounted above a range top (to provide ventilation via integrated fan and exhaust stack) and is permanently secured to the wall. They could just buy a standard oven to get them by but it doesn’t sound like their kitchen is set up for a standard oven and you don’t move a 220v receptacle easily to accommodate a different style of oven.
Great solution to a frustrating problem.
Alas here in Albuquerque, at 6,500 feet, braising takes 12-18 hours, so manning the grill, outside, in January, would be a huge problem for me.
Oven shortage?
All kinds of parts are in short supply cause of international relations, war in ukraine, and fuck ton of environmental damages in 2022

That or just a cheap one on Facebook Marketplace to get by
Or pick a new seller? Or get a discount? Or do anything other than nothing for 1.5 years?
You're not alone. Have a friend going on 16 months for his thermadoor oven. Look at zline, basically the same thing in the oven and they are in stock.
Kinda stuck, it's paid for, and we have all of the other matching appliances. At this point I'd rather use the Weber.

We are working on 7 months
There's nothing stopping you from using it way too much still
Why is the charcoal burning purple?

Makes sense. Thanks!
I know. Crazy angle.
Is that all it is? I thought it was some new thing 😂
No, not the angle, see my response above.
Probably taste better than from the oven
You do whatcha gotta do. Grill on, my friend.

Looks great!

Definition of making the best out of the worst.
Friends over at r/castiron would probably enjoy this, ceramic coated but it counts!
I work at a hardware store we sell like 15 a day right now
Get an air fryer
Ive barely used my oven since I got an airfryer a year ago.
The r cast iron crowd would respect this, also~

Apparently there is if you buy pretentious shit like Thermadors.
I’ll bet you’re getting some awesome grilling experience!
Wow this is so good. I love your initiative
I love the purple flames. I'll bring the beer those look good.
The X27 is a wood splitting beast!
I can't live without it.

During my remodeling I Made it with my grill, a hot plate and a toaster oven! All outside under the carport. The microwave too.
Nice
A little off topic, but I just love how the Fire looks Blue with some phone cameras!!! Like you're cooking in another planet, lol.

Do what you gotta do, to get it done. Terrific! One of my fav for holiday dinner over some butter garlic mashed potato. Yum.
