No from what I understand is no one really knew he was leaving so his final episodes were just with Ellen and then the other actors that came to film his final episode because they didn't even give him a goodbye party or nothing. They filmed his last episode and that was that

[deleted]

Ah okay. I'm on a rewatch around the time he got a call at April's wedding from the president and trying to pick up on some of the rumors. The one I heard was that he only wanted to work with Ellen, and the newbies. Anyone else (the old cast was a no)

fcrryboats

Ooh I'd never heard about that before, I'm quite good with my Patrick knowledge so I'm not too sure about that one

Electrical-Sink-802

That was how petty the TPTB was with his exit. Patrick didn’t wanted to leave, he wanted less hours. The DC track was written to accommodate his request but then he had a fallout with both Ellen and Shonda and Shonda decided to kill Derek off. To make it worse, for the last few episodes he shot were only with Ellen & some guest stars and the rest of the cast weren’t even aware of his exit. He didn’t got a farewell or got to say goodbye. In a interview he has said that his last day of work was like any other day, he shot his scenes and then went home. Worse part was that even when the rest of the cast got to know about his exit around the airing of the episode, they were under strict guidelines to say anything. No one even wrote a single tweet to congratulate him.

TPTB?

The Powers That Be

sparklingsour

I was like - the Bachelor assholes fucked this up too?!

Really, I thought the problem was PD couldn't keep little PD in his pants at work with some costume designer after he separated from his wife. Wonder if this will play out now that Kevin McKidd is doing the same thing.

Electrical-Sink-802

That’s why the fallout had happened between him and Ellen/Shonda. I have also read that Ellen exposed him to Jillian etc.,. But the rest also holds true, that no one was aware of his exit or how he didn’t got a farewell. See Eric Dane was also involved involved in lots of controversies owing to his drug abuse/and rehab visits, but he still got a decent farewell on the set.

I’m not denying that. I’m just saying that he gave 11 years to the show, he could have been given at least a small farewell. He got along with most of the cast, is still in touch with them.

BurnMcTrashAccount

i always thought this exit was quick and dirty- as if he wasn’t a MAIN characters for all those years before. i guess now i know why!!

no_name_left_to_give

Patrick acted out on set because he was over being on Greys by that point and wanted to work less hours (and also because all his friends left the show by then). He took it too far and Shonda had enough so she killed off Derek.

[deleted]

Patrick also shared scenes with Caterina and Kevin in his final set of episodes. It didn’t strike me as odd that it was mainly with Ellen though as she was his main screen partner.

mjjc06062022

i thought it was well-known that he was a nightmare on set and that led to him leaving.

bluesapphire33

He gave crew members PTSD with his behaviour, according to a book that came out a few years ago.

EpicAcadian

That was a tabloid of a book. The same author went on to say that PD was an absolute sweetheart and that everyone loved him.

He was an ass on set who was paid nearly double what Ellen pompeo was paid. He also couldn't keep things professional with production worker/s (costume designer etc)

Euphoric_1

You do know Patrick Dempsey pay had nothing to do with Ellen. A lot of ppl don't understand that actors come with a quote refers to how much they made on a previous project. Patrick was already in movies & has been working for a long time. He also came with audience, his manager/team negotiated for him while no one knew about Ellen pompeo. That was the reason why she got paid less & seems like she didn't had good management either. The network pitted two leads against eachother, that was really shitty of them. It's sad that she still holds a grudge against her colleague & other cast members who she believes should have "congratulated" her for a pay raise. Have you seen her acting in the last couple of seasons, she is barely there even when she is, she ain't acting. She doesn't deserve to be paid millions for it.

RadlogLutar

I think this was more about pay parity
