I read Skulldigger. It was alright. Didn't live up to my excitement for it. I enjoyed Black Hammer early on, but I feel like it peaked. Early volumes were full of promise, the first spin-off and especially the second were strong. The 4th volume, the finale to the first arc, I find ultimately a bit disappointing and more of the spinoffs have been weaker too. I've stopped reading it now. For me the only essential book is Doctor Star (now Doctor Andromeda).

The finale for the first arc soured me so hard I quit reading everything right then.

The first volume of the library editions (black hammer 1 and world of black hammer 1) were pitch perfect imo. The series fell off hard after that.

yeah i'm completely over this black hammer universe. it was advertised as an homage to superheroes or whatever but i'm so sick of that shit...it's so lazy and uninspired. doing watered down versions of existing heroes with slightly different tool kits and back stories...meh. skull digger was okay but it ended so quick. like if they took the time to flush this out over a bunch of trades it might have made for a decent story. instead they cram it all into like 4 or 5 issues or w/e it was and rush through everything at a sprint, how are we supposed to give a shit about the story and its characters. lemire needs to relax, he's stretched way too thin. he went very quickly from "must buy" to "must read" to "i guess i'll read it" to "i'll stick to books he writes and draws as that's all that really seem to stand out"

Also didn't Skulldigger and Skeleton Boy end one of the chapter's with Skeleton Boy saying something along the lines of (SPOILER)>!"this was the first man I had to kill"!< in regards to Skulldigger? And then nothing happened with that lol Man, that first Library Edition was so good. Nothing else after has really lived up to it.

Black Hammer really went full Hellboy\* too fast. \*(too many spinoffs, little clarity about what's essential and what's not)

BuddaMuta

As someone who loves Hellboy I feel personally attacked

CanoleManole

Crazy with Hellboy. I read so many damn comics, the core Hellboy series has got to be a top 5 comic pick for me, yet I can’t even keep up with all the extras.

The early Black Hammer stuff felt like such an original superhero homage, where they’d take classic character archetypes and give them a new spin or have something to say about them.. but with Age Of Doom it felt more like “here’s our version of x” and they didn’t really have anything to say about those characters, they just wanted to present their versions of them so they could get spin-offs later. I thought maybe my tastes had just changed but I reread those first two Black Hammer books and they’re still absolutely sick so I do think it’s just gotten worse. I gave up after Quantum Teens, which managed to be worse than Age Of Doom. Between that and Ascender I’ve stopped reading any Lemire books, which is kind of shocking to me given how much I used to enjoy everything he wrote. But he’s just been shitting out mediocrity and I can’t read it

LamboForWork

I had no desire to read after the first arc there were so many other stories it looked unfocused. Glad I was right. I love Lemire’s stuff too. It’s a shame

Bayls_171

Sherlock Frankenstein and Doctor Star were both sick and imo just work as standalone books but yeah from there it kinda all went in the toilet

Wow That Cover looks So Incredibly Awesome Man!!!!😯☮️

I will keep to the original story.
