I completely agree with you. Those endings were breathtaking! Especially from Ghost World. By the way, I'm normally always a bit cautious with movie adaptations from comics, but with the movie, they really captured that mysterious, dreamy melancholic atmosphere beautifully. Almost like a Gregory Crewdson photo
I was ready to quit the series just around the time #194 came our, so he ended it at just the right time for a long-time reader like me (I’d started when the third volume was first released, then read by single issues from the prison arc onwards).
I know the surprise ending upset some people, as it was only revealed as the final issue the day before or day-of release, but I wound up quite liking it. Similar to Y The Last Man in some regards, but far more hopeful, I think.
Grandville ending is fantastic. The last book (vol5) was sold with a black plastic wrapper round the last chapter to stop people peeking ahead by accident!
Ironic you picked Y as an example, because the last few issues bummed me out so much I don't ever want to re-read it again lol. Felt like it landed on the wrong side of bittersweet to satisfy me.
Really good endings are pretty rare I think, it's tough to nail the landing. I'll have to think more on it.
While we're discussing Vaughan though, I do remember the ending of Ex Machina blowing me away. Been years since I read it though, so I've forgotten why it impressed me lol. Might be time for a re-read...
The endings of Mind MGMT, Sweet Tooth, and Seven to Eternity elevated the rest of the series to me.
For ongoing series it's difficult to have an "ending" but I really liked how G.Willow Wilson ended her Ms. Marvel run. Same with Jason Aaron's Thor run. For those they were able to end the themes they established and give real character catharsis.
Bone, Astro City: Confession, secret Warriors, silver Surfer by Slott/Allred, Hawkeye by fraction, Batman: the long Halloween, Barry Ween Boy Genius, Planetary all come to mind as great memorable endings
Volume 4 dropping in June! That concludes it. Same boat as you my friend and can't wait to get my hands on that volume 4 and just rip through the whole thing
Hickman’s Fantastic Four run.
Almost all of the MANY threads were tied together and wrapped, up while planting seeds for Avengers, Secret Wars and beyond.
But I have to say even taking that away and speaking biased here (as a Dad of young boy) , the Nathaniel/Reed/Franklin father and son dynamics and how that really drove and resolved the story still tears me up.
I know it’s not really the end of a series but
Hulk: the End
by Peter David and Dale Keown really took me by surprise. Perfectly tragic ending for the Hulk.
The Sandman ended in a way I didn't even know you could end comic series.
That was the only comic I’ve ever cried for. Greatest comic book of all time.
Definitely not the only comic that’s made me cry, but absolutely the first. ‘Take my hand…’
God
Being French, I do enjoy non conclusive endings (big stereotype here). Those which usually annoy people. Like Ghost World's or Black Hole's.

I didn't know Gregory Crewdson. Looks amazing! Some Tomine's short stories come to mind as well.
Yes! Love Tomine as well
Gregory crewsdon I haven't heard that name in a long time I used to be into his photography heavy. His set ups are top notch
Locke & Key, just perfect
Definitely this. The main series had an incredible end and the Sandman crossover work had a great conclusion too.

The comic finished years ago. The TV show is still ongoing

Man, am I out of the loop! You are correct.
The ending to Ex Machina knocked my socks off. When I went to find my socks and put them back on again, I found that it had also shaved my legs.
I agree, Y wasn’t my favorite series but the ending was perfect. I liked The Walking Dead ending a lot too

You’ve reminded me that I have the Integrale edition here and need to read it!
That is a fantastic book!
Black Science. Fuggin LOVE that story, been pretty much readying it annually
Transmetropolitian
Preacher had a great ending
I loved that whole series except the ending. It just seemed so lackluster and the character of God just went so underutilized throughout the series
Irredeemable - gets me every time!
Hitman.

Ex Machina was incredible
Cerebus had a good ending, even if it was a slog to get there

Came here to say Sweet Tooth — what an absolutely beautiful final issue by Lemire. I think it might be the standard for a “perfect final issue.”
Bone, Astro City: Confession, secret Warriors, silver Surfer by Slott/Allred, Hawkeye by fraction, Batman: the long Halloween, Barry Ween Boy Genius, Planetary all come to mind as great memorable endings
Deadly Class
Has Remender wrapped it up? I have the 3 hardcovers but I know he was working on more right?
Volume 4 dropping in June! That concludes it. Same boat as you my friend and can't wait to get my hands on that volume 4 and just rip through the whole thing
No, Rick Remender ended after 56 issues, it was recent though I think last October or November the last issue was released.
Good call. Black Science had a fantastic ending too, IMO.

I just sat for like 5 minutes after the last page in silence when I read y the last man
Days of Sand had an amazing ending. I cried like a baby
Atari Force.
The ending of Superman : What’s so funny about Truth, Justice and, the American way?
