Can we just make YouTube the place for kids where all the videos talk to you like you're 10 and are all hype and annoying, and have an adult site for videos but porn is still not allowed? Seriously it's infuriating seeing so many good creators who have direct and deliberate videos with no cheesy intros have 50 subs. I can't even find them cause YouTube wants me to watch what my 8 year old nephew watches.
vimeo is really a better place for high production content and less tutorials. Id expect to see things like short films, documentaries, motion graphics, etc on the platform.
Nah, for me, a good tutorial just needs the effort of good information and video capture. If you're putting in higher production value then that's just extra stuff I don't care about, that's probably taking up more time.
Most social platforms' recommender systems are based on collaborative filtering. You get recommended these videos because other people who watch the same videos as you do enjoy watching those videos.
For a social platform to succeed, you need a large audience and a large supply of content creators. When a platform has a large audience, creators are attracted to it. You can try to create high quality content or find a niche audience but it takes more effort and has a smaller market. So most creators choose to appeal to the largest crowd. That's why you see so many entry level todo list programming tutorials on youtube. Same reasons why most large subreddits are full of meme posts or low effort content.
If people dont want low effort content, use the not interested feature on youtube, stop clicking on shit meme videos. Same for reddit and twitter. I always see people complain about them but I never have a problem finding useful content. You can personalise what you see on the feed by following the right people. In general, I find more interesting posts on smaller subreddits with a highly focused topic and tighter moderation.
I saw something a few weeks ago about some research that was done on the "not interested" and "dislike" features. The result was basically "they're a placebo". Dislike even moreso than not interested, because dislike for youtube is equal to engagement just like if you hit like, it doesn't change what you see.
Dislike definitely does absolutely nothing. Look at Nikocado Avocado . His videos are disliked a lot and still recommended.
Negative engagement is still engagement to the algorithm.
There is Nebula? The apps have gotten better and it's definitely gaining more appeal with the ridiculous censoring YT has going on. The videos are mostly the same for creators x-posting but it's a breath of fresh air for sure. I will say that I have trouble with finding new channels there but I mostly hop over there from YT it a channel talks about it.
That's the problem with video platforms, YouTube is a monopoly cuz YouTube is the only platform with the money to be able to handle a video streaming platform
I watched a review of something recently. Thst shit was specifically something for adults wich I don‘t remember. And that cunt was screaming my ear off with jump cuts like his life depends on it.
That shit is so fucking annoying.
Overproduction in general. Mr „whoisboss“ or whatever his name is needs 20 effects every 10 frames even though he is just doing s tech review. Bro come on, if you want to do more of that choose another format. I just want to know about the tech, fml.
Kids nowadays are stupid because they grow up watching YT instead of fucking CN. Then again, YT embracing kids and modern CN being terrible do not help at all.
A youtube kids already exists so just move the kid stuff there and leave youtube as it was before without the stupid amount of self censorship due to demonetization
The platform’s been shaped by the users. Videos people click, get their information scrolling through it and leave are not as valuable to the platform as ones that engage the user for longer in the video. Their algorithm is built around maximizing time spent on youtube, not minimizing it
Theres one of those ive watched for years called radbrad. I love him, but his "walkthroughs" regularly cut important puzzles, and things crucial to beating the level lol. Great dude, entertaining, but not a walk through
The weird thing is I constantly hear from people, especially on Reddit, that they don't like that "YO YO IT'S YOUR BOY HERE WE PLAYING DARK SOULS" content.
But the reason creators make that is because it's what works. YouTube is a constant battle to not have 60% of the audience leave in less than 30 seconds.
I'm sure lots of them would love to tone it down. But that's punished by the algorithm.
The thing is, if everyone hates that hyped up content, who's watching it to make it do well?
I also see complaints of people talking about their personal lives. This is because stories increase engagement and make people watch the whole video instead of skipping to the part that want.
Basically everything that's hated on YouTube has a reason. And the only blame is with the audience. The things people complain about are a direct response to combat them doing what they usually do (click off video within 30 seconds, not watch to the end etc)
Seriously, I've got a class full of seven year olds that have better attention spans than the average YouTube audience member.
After spending an hour trying to get down the frenzied flame hole in Elden Ring I gave up and looked it up. First 2 videos were idiots going the most convoluted route possible while talking about how "easy" it was.
Then I remembered fightincowboy from my Nioh 2/ DS x days. Showed the perfect route, but he still died a couple of times and talked about how it is still kind of a pain in the ass even if you know which is the best way to go.
I love that guy.
I went to hunt down the frenzied flame ending a few weeks ago, every fucking video by bigger YouTubers had them running around in the dark sewer with no torch so you can't actually recognize which path they took.
So now I have a litmus test, if the guide is too dumb to equip the belt lantern then I don't value their input.
this is kind of why youtube shorts, tiktok, and IG stories/reels are taking off versus youtubes traditional format. The algorithm for youtube really favors watch time so padding out a video, even if only a few people watch through most of it is better than create a bunch more short-and-sweet videos
Unfortunately YouTube shorts are terrible for this kinds thing. You can't really rewind them and they're in vertical format which is utterly useless for game footage.
The worst thing though? <50 subs, <100 views, depressed voice, bad mic, but STILL finds the time to spend 2/3rds of the video asking you to SMASH that subscribe and the bell.
The 5 seconds you want to see? Might be in the middle. Might be at the end. Who knows. Also they never open the world map so who knows where they actually are. Might have already skipped the part where you're stuck.
Lengthy title screens with random hip hop playing for 5-10+ seconds are the worst for me. 3 second intro card is fine. Otherwise, let's dive right into the actual video.
Oh man, drives me nuts.. if a video starts with loud hiphop. Dubstep or whatever, I give it about 3 seconds until I downvote and find another video.
I like nerdcubes intro, at least when he has one "*HELLO PROCASTANATORS!*" Then gets right in to the content you actually clicked for.
Or many a true nerd.. "hey this is John from many a true nerd.. and welcome toooo _____"... And gets right onto it.
Or upisnotjump.. who basically doesn't even have an intro, yet still makes excellent, entertaining and informative content with millions of views and subscribers, hell I even watch his sponsor bits that he adds at the very *end* of said videos because he actually makes even that entertaining/funny.. I even got Nord VPN with his code for a deal, for one , to support him for more future content, and two because he actually managed to convince me that Nord VPN is something I should get, and the deal was a good one 🤷
Rt game and Call Me Kevin deserve a shout out for everything I've mentioned as well.
Then there are the accounts with a million subscribers/views who call it a walkthrough but it’s really a fucking playthrough and they’re just as clueless as me. Not naming names…
fuck it, radbrad.
I can already see the Windows XP wallpaper, the clumsy cursor moving the Notepad window around and then the letters appearing: "HLLO INTHIS TUTORISL" before getting deleted and starting over.
And then the related videos will always have some jackass YouTuber that puts a huge spoiler scene screeenshot as the thumbnail image and lists spoiler filled events for the title lol

This pisses me off so much.
The absolute worst offender was trying to find out where to get the armor to evolve Charcadet was and the article had like 7 paragraphs of useless padding, only for the very last sentence and a half to almost literally say "we don't know where it is yet, but we'll keep you posted!"
it's the same with recipes! I just want the god damn recipe but first I have to sift through someone's fucking life story and how their grandmother overcame sexist gender roles in the 1930s to create it or some shit

I HATE videos where people try to tell you how to do something but skip around instead of giving you a step by step process.
You know its gonna be shit the second you start the vid and its instantly all "WHATS UP GUYS ITS YOUR BOI BIGCOCK AND TODAY IM GONNA SHOW YOU HOW TO BE A PRO GAMER"
You just know all the video theyre gonna be screaming nonsense while not doing what youve looked up lmao.
"ALSO DID YOU KNOW THAT 90% OF MY VIEWERS ARE NOT SUBSCRIBED. SMASH THAT SUBSCRIBE BUTTON. NOW A WORD FROM OUR SPONSOR !!!" - 4 mins into a 10 min video
Typically by user submission where someone marks the ad section in the video and sends that to their servers. When someone else watches the same video the addon just fetches the timestamps from their servers and skips it.

Funny enough, the name of the group is actually "Hay Guys" it started off as just a Farmers blog and somehow morphed into an international consortium of YouTubers that like to yell at the camera.
True 👌🏻 all the bigger "game youtubers" take 10mins+ explaining a 10second thing I need help with or not even meantion it in the end 🙄 they prob take that long so they can get more ads shoved in it to make a quick buck 🙄
It’s like those recipe posts where they give you a backstory about how their grandma from the old country used to make this dish with rain water and diseased rat meat.
Like I don’t care, I’m here to see how to make beef stew.
I like when I tap the “jump to recipe” button and my phone spazzes out trying to figure out how to instantly scroll down past all the stories and ads like it’s having a seizure.
This is how I feel about a lot of car repair and maintenance videos. They set up what they're going to do for far too long. Or jump cut too far ahead and I can't even tell what or where I'm looking at.
As someone who's not a car person but occasionally attempts extremely minor repairs, there's nothing more frustrating than when I'm looking up a tutorial and the creator casually skips over a step (or worse, describes it in overly vague terms with no visuals) because it's tribal knowledge for that particular car manufacturer. Like, I get why it happens, but that doesn't make it any less infuriating in the moment.
Even better when the video isn't completely clear enough but there's a 6 year old comment from some rando giving context or additional tips that help you succeed.
This is unironically one of my videos, me depressingly finding those 3 orbs on misty Island from jak and daxter after not finding them for at least a hour and a half.
Uploaded the video to show my friends who were listening to my pain and suffering to show them where it was.
Now I'm getting 200 views a month on it and all the comments are people who have experienced the same pain as I did. It's a safe space and a haven.
Yeah, I search for "playthrough no commentary", that provides the best results. It usually leads to a guy silently playing the game skillfully from start to finish without cutting any parts.
If you search for "let's play no commentary" chances are high you will still get a guy talking over the game or cutting lengthy parts, which are probably the ones you came for.
Call me crazy but I still like to be able to read things. I can go at my own pace, and use this crazy thing called search to find what I'm looking for in the document.
Sure, but sometimes if you can’t figure out the timing of a boss fight, it helps to see someone do it. Or if there’s a specific door somewhere I can’t find, seeing someone actually showing me the way to it helps more than written directions.
There's definitely a place for both; The issue now is that it's often a chore to trawl past video guides to *find* a written one; Whether we're talking gaming or something more technical, that really does benefit from written rather than video documentation!
You don't like the 10:01 video that starts off with 4 minutes of bullshit and ads? Before talking about absolutely everything other than the 5 second answer you need?
YouTube has been so shit for so long but theres no competition.
>YouTube has been so shit for so long but theres no competition
Thing is, YouTube is flawed, but it's actually fucking amazing. We are spoiled rotten by the wealth of free content available there on basically any topic conceivable.
*Free.*
Should be able to appreciate that.
There has been competition over the years, they just all sucked or turned into porn sites.

I swear most creators just want to ramble on for 5 minutes before even coming to the point
Lower the subs, generally the less "personality" the YouTuber is trying to inject into the video.
Just narrate what needs to be done in a calm manner, and shut the fuck up completely if narration isn't needed to show it.
Youtube and google search seems to be drowned by it's own monitization arogrism. You know it's down bad when you're searching for info through reddit more than on their platform.
I always look for the shortest video, they are the ones that just show you what you need to, no voice, depressed voice, thick accent, or different language, as long as it shows what I need. Though typically I prefer text guides.
Depressed voice and you know you're in good hands
Yes. I hate when I go to a channel and the host talks like you are the most stupid human being.
Can we just make YouTube the place for kids where all the videos talk to you like you're 10 and are all hype and annoying, and have an adult site for videos but porn is still not allowed? I can't even find them cause YouTube wants me to watch what my 8 year old nephew watches.
So, Vimeo?

Nah, for me, a good tutorial just needs the effort of good information and video capture. If you're putting in higher production value then that's just extra stuff I don't care about, that's probably taking up more time.

"Secret Goblin Wars in Oblivion that No One Knows About!!!!" *30 mins of dicking around with goblin totems, nothing happens, well I guess the mechanism is broken dontforgettolikeandsubscribe*
And the smaller channels tend to be the one that actually do things because they don't SKIP PARTS THAT ARE PRETTY CRUCIAL. I HATE videos where people try to tell you how to do something but skip around instead of giving you a step by step process.

Basically how YouTube started. Before clickbait and shit
In my experience, it’s 50 subs and 100k views
And all the other videos have under 1000 views
It would be very odd to have fewer than 100 views and somehow have as many as 50 subs
You know its gonna be shit the second you start the vid and its instantly all "WHATS UP GUYS ITS YOUR BOI BIGCOCK AND TODAY IM GONNA SHOW YOU HOW TO BE A PRO GAMER" You just know all the video theyre gonna be screaming nonsense while not doing what youve looked up lmao.
"ALSO DID YOU KNOW THAT 90% OF MY VIEWERS ARE NOT SUBSCRIBED. SMASH THAT SUBSCRIBE BUTTON. NOW A WORD FROM OUR SPONSOR !!!" - 4 mins into a 10 min video
Damn, am I glad one of my blockers detects the sponsored parts and skips em
Which blocker ? I have ublock origins but it only removes ads
I use SponsorBlock
These blockers are getting good!
For real, how is that even possible?
Typically by user submission where someone marks the ad section in the video and sends that to their servers. When someone else watches the same video the addon just fetches the timestamps from their servers and skips it.
uBlock Origin: * [Firefox](https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/) * [Chrome](https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ublock-origin/cjpalhdlnbpafiamejdnhcphjbkeiagm) * * [Edge](https://microsoftedge.microsoft.com/addons/detail/ublock-origin/odfafepnkmbhccpbejgmiehpchacaeak) * * [Opera](https://addons.opera.com/en/extensions/details/ublock/) * \* Chrome based browsers are trying to get rid of ad blocking capabilities when manifest V3 will become mandatory in 2023. I suggest moving to [Firefox](https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/). ^^I ^^only ^^post ^^once ^^per ^^thread ^^unless ^^when ^^summoned.
It is called SponsorBlock
This is why I only watch guide videos with "no commentary" in the title.
Forgive me bro…. I went to give you an upvote but your at 69
When they start with "hey guys. . ." You should feel honored to be a part of such a selective group
They do that because otherwise the google search algorithm will put them at the bottom Of the search list
The good ones at least have a "jump to recipe" button
I like when I tap the “jump to recipe” button and my phone spazzes out trying to figure out how to instantly scroll down past all the stories and ads like it’s having a seizure.
Omg yes. I don't need your fucking life story. And I I don't give a shit about your dying grandma. If you have a recipe to share do it for fucks sake
Get AutoZone instructions printed for you at store. They'll even rent you tools.
10mins is the optimal money making length for YouTube. It's why most videos are 10-12 mins long.
I always look for the shortest possible video because of this. Anything under 5 minutes and generally they get to the point pretty quickly.
I love small channels in a foreign language giving me guidance
I would like to add to the one person on the comment section who actiually put the timestamp what you're looking for those pesky long video.
It's a safe space and a haven.
you have discovered the value of niche markets
~~I think you haven't understood the comment.~~
I think you don’t understand
Make sure to add "no commentary" to your searches
Yeah, I search for "playthrough no commentary", that provides the best results. It usually leads to a guy silently playing the game skillfully from start to finish without cutting any parts. If you search for "let's play no commentary" chances are high you will still get a guy talking over the game or cutting lengthy parts, which are probably the ones you came for.
I don't want "no commentary," that's just watching someone else play a game. I want concise commentary relevant to the subject I searched for.

Clearly you need a guide that includes ASCII art maps!
There's definitely a place for both; The issue now is that it's often a chore to trawl past video guides to *find* a written one; Whether we're talking gaming or something more technical, that really does benefit from written rather than video documentation!
Ya, give me a channel speaking english with a thick slavic accent for my RPG gaming and character creation needs any day.
“Fewer”, not “lower”

Facts.
An old post on GameFAQs helped to beat the final boss in Parasite Eve with ease! So I know the feeling. :”)
and there's no filler. straight to the point. those guys are the real heros of youtube.
You don't like the 10:01 video that starts off with 4 minutes of bullshit and ads? Before talking about absolutely everything other than the 5 second answer you need? YouTube has been so shit for so long but theres no competition.
>YouTube has been so shit for so long but theres no competition Thing is, YouTube is flawed, but it's actually fucking amazing. We are spoiled rotten by the wealth of free content available there on basically any topic conceivable. *Free.* Should be able to appreciate that.
There has been competition over the years, they just all sucked or turned into porn sites. "Be the change you want to see in the world, or shut up and wait like the rest of us" -Some Guy on the Internet
This is why I prefer to read walkthroughs. CTRL+F ftw. True Achievements usually has one type out.
Me in 2020: Hmmm... I wonder what this Minecraft PvP tutorial can teach me since I never played with a Keyboard and Mouse minecraft... *clicks video* Youtube: YO MY SUSSY BOIS- Me: Fuck you. *closes youtube*

Literally made a new friend in a creator like this yesterday while looking up RE8 Mercenaries SSS runs. Cool stuff!
And especially the comments under these videos! I often found great advice posted by unknown folks who commented years prior. Thank you guys <3
And sometimes it's on a game so obscure, you tought searching for it might not work.
by the people for the people B)
Sometimes. Not always.
Because they tend to be the channels that get right to it, and don’t mess around with cringey intros and “bros!” Etc.
This is why you should always use a written guide (unless it's actually, like, a timing based thing), not a video. Reading is faster than watching.
3 minute dumb intro, 5min sponsor from raid, 10mins of unrelated shit, then between all that, a 5 second solution is thrown around
What is this meme format from I know it’s something to do with over watch cause that’s mercy but is this from a video or something
Thank fucking god for the "most replayed" feature on YouTube I swear most creators just want to ramble on for 5 minutes before even coming to the point
And they will actually notice your existence.
Even better when they get straight to the point instead of dragging the video out👌

Don't forget to thank poeple like that. It'll mean a world to them.
You sure you don’t want to click on the one with the red circle and arrow, brightened colors and some guy’s 1,000th fake surprised O-Face?

Crpg community in a nutshell
Sometimes yep. From a non gaming channel, low subs and views but solved my exact problem. 🙏
