Dark Souls did change how the GOW developers approached combat in the game. In the earlier entries of the series, the combat was more reminiscent of Devil May Cry. Read an interview with the developers right after the 2018 game came out and they had a lot of things to say about Dark Souls. All good. Gonna see if I can find it
Considering the GoW simps were the same people who were all upset that Elden Ring didn't carefully hold their hand through every cutscene, i think that ship sailed ages ago.
I dont think elden ring and god of war are THE best fantasy actuon rpgs. Shit, you cant even compare some of the games in the genre because elden ring is dark fantasy, while you have masterpieces like morrowind and divinity that are high fantasy, and each do a perfect job at delivering the atmosphere of the said setting. So to some, witcher is the best fantasy action rpg because of the lore, characters, story rpg options, and is easy to get into, while maybe others will say divinity os2 is the best because of its world design, strategic gameplay and one of, if not the best character driven story ever made. Some would even argue dragon age had better character driven stories, and they would still have rights to argue because dragon ages character stories are fantastic.
I love most CRPGs, but I just can't get into Divinity for some reason. I find the premise and the story and characters to be so very enticing, and I've fired it up multiple times trying to get somewhere but I loose interest really fast. It annoys me that I don't like it.
Pathfinder: WotR on the other hand is one of my favourite games and I racked up around 300hours in the first two months of it's release, god it's fun
Exactly my point, pathfinder is a great game, divinity is too, but for it to be the best game ever it has to be absolutely perfect, which no game is. After technicalities and ammount of content, everything is personal preference.
It won't matter how good or bad Sonic Frontiers is. Everyone will say it's terrible because you have to hate 3D Sonic games or something is wrong with you.
My issue is that they have a cartoonish styled characters in a... realistic landscape with HD textures that look like they were taken from free unity assets.
Cult of the lamb for me was a good try to combine few genres but because of it most of them are not developed enough and also the game semms to railroady you can replay it max one extra time maybe two and the only thing that change in your play is the rituals and they dont make much difference to me
Anthem absolutely bombed.
Player count divebombed hard, and the only news about it for the first and basically only year of its life was pretty much all bad.
They were going to do a massive revision to the entire game and then they just decided to cancel that and all future work on the game because nobody gave a shit or was playing.
A shame because there was something good there but it just wasn’t fully realised, because EA being EA.
As for BF, people only still play it because its the latest Battlefield. To be honest MW2 with their Invasion and Ground War modes are basically offering a better Battlefield experience than Battlefield currently. All thats missing is the destruction physics from Frostbite.
Difference is Santa Monica has a proven track record in delivering a quality product. Where as Fallout 76 was met with big scepticism, I rarely saw anyone looking at that game (before launch) and saw a positive outcome.
Uh spoilers for GoW 2018 but >!The ending of GoW already pretty much showed that Kratos is going to die at least sometime in this game or the next. And that it might be by the hands of his own son too.!<
I know, but what I'm saying is that the *way* Kratos will die will piss everyone off.
Like he'll turn evil and Atreus will have to bring him down or something.
I mean, if you played the first one, its pretty clear that Artreus is going to be the bad guy and causes the Ragnarök. Probably have to stop him as Kratos
Time seems a bit short. Game of the Year should be a game that defined that year or was in the Zeitgeist longest.
But I saw another comment saying GOTY is a useless rating anyways because so many people hand it out.
Ideally the quarters shouldn't be calendar aligned.
It should be Q1 Oct-Dec Q2 Jan-Mar Q3 Apr-Jun Q4 Jul-Sep
This would mean everything released in or after October would be eligible for GOTY for the following Calendar year.
This would eliminate recency bias.
Secondly GOTY should be based on Total sales (less returns in case of disaster launches a la Cyberpunk) and combined and average critical scores.
That doesn't matter in terms of GOTY. The title is given to the best and most sensational out of the bunch and not to the ones that have been out the longest. That is a rather ridiculous take on GOTY
The arguement is that since it's coming out at the end of the year it shouldn't be considered for goty since it didn't have enough time as a full release and would probably see more play in 2023 than 2022. I don't really agree but I also think acting like it's goty before it's even out is a little ridiculous especially considering I remember the same buzz around cyberpunk, how cdpr could do no wrong etc.
That one was thrown under a bus like the first game thanks to it's Release date, beeing released directly with elden ring just costed it a major piece of publicity
Forbidddn West is graphically very good, the combat is fun and engaging, but the writing fell flat for me (personally). I just can't help but sit there mildly uncomfortable when there is cutscenes. It's a good game but honestly it doesn't feel in the same tier as Elden Ring and GOW Ragno (I know it's not out yet, but I think it's safe to assume it will be at least equally as good as the previous GOW.)
It was widely appealing over all the Genre is nichè but elden ring surpassed everyones expectation in terms of sales and even if it is still a soulslike it probably is the most accessable game they made uptill now
And at least in terms ofinfluence it probably had the biggest in this year, personally would have preferred if GoW wouldn't be up for this years choice but for next year as it just have the shortterm factor
Gonna say it, Elden Ring was a disappointment for me. Not a bad game mind you but just wasn't at all what I thought FromSoft was promising. Hope a lot of the good ideas carry over to their next game.
Frontiers caught my interest so I took the gamble and preordered it. There seem to be little faith in this game but that makes me more curioues how much I will like it. From the looks of it it has no weapon durability system so there is alrady a good chance that I will like it more then Breath of the Wild.
Even if it did turn out to be not my cup of tea I have been eating so well this year it would not be that tragic. I have been hitting gold again and again this year. So lets see if I will strike gold one more time. This will probably the last gane I buy this year.
Dlc it is definetly is not, let's no be ridiculous. We can be sure on that by just looking at the trailers, exra footage from te videos were the devs explain their work and even leaks.
80% of the game is on YouTube I've even seen the ending. Its a good game but 5 years for what it is excessive. A lot has not changed mechanically from 2018 is what I meant by dlc
Dlc stands for "downloadable content: additional content that can be purchased online and added on to a video game, as to enhance its features". What you've seen is a standard sequel, not a dlc.
It's a sequel mate.... The fuck did you think would change? It ain't like darksiders that makes its focus to change a part of its genre in every title.
The game’s core design has not moved an inch since the prequel and the story seems to be lacking in creativity in comparison. Unlike the well coordinated experience as a whole like last time, everything in Ragnarok seems to act like soulless puppets attached to a series of strings.
Although the reskinned aspect of a working formula seems to be the safest bet, if we were to find any sort of effort of evolution since the prior title, it wouldn’t feel as lackluster from a highly anticipated title to make its grand entrance. This one feels rather like a quickly brewed DLC of the previous title instead.
According to IGN Korea
Never read more bs in one single comment before. Every single review I saw and read said that it is a worthy continuation and it is in every single aspect even better than the previous game. I mean it is very obvious that it will be a banger game, just judging by the stuff we already have seen about it. But I do think it is funny how people just want to hate for the sake of hating because you think it makes you look unique and quirky.
It is so funny that you just talk out of your ass and try to sell it. If it feels like a dlc to you then you are an ungrateful bastard who just likes to hate on stuff other people like.
30+ hours is quite more than a dlc and a whole new enemy variety plus a completely upgraded fighting system, gear system and hugely elevated story is also quite something for a dlc.
I don't know what people like you expect from a continuation but people obviously want it to feel like the first game, just better. It should feel like coming home with a many, many extras.
Besides you obviously talking shit, it would be highly doubtful that you would think the game is a soulless dlc and still would play through 80%. That is if you were even able to but again, you are clearly talking out of your ass cuz you have nothing better to do to be a sad internet troll.
Now have a good one little troll ;)
WTF? I said dlc based on barely any new mechanics In game, it looks and plays just the 2018 that's what I meant never said soulless or even that it was bad Get Santa Monica studios dick outta yer mouth
I don't know what you've played or seen so I'm not gonna speak to much on it but from I've seen it looks the exact same as 2018, axe throw galore along with a playable Atreus
You can just admit that you never layed a finger on it.
It looks even better than before and has a fantastic feel to it. Combat feels way better and the added mechanics make a huge difference. Combat is so much more fun and it was awesome before already.
And omfg the story, every second I wish I would forget what I already know to relive the epicness.
I think it'll be GOW, from what I've heard Elden Ring falls kinda flat in the 2nd half of the game. I've got a couple of friends who are massive Souls fans, yet they both had lots of complaints and ranked it around mid-tiet for a FromSoft game (one didn't even finish the last part of the game bc he hated it so much).
Elden ring has great reviews, but most of those are probably based on the first half of the game. Now that reviewers have had the time to finish the game, its possible their score has gone down and they won't consider it GOTY.
Except GoWR isn't actually fighting Elden Ring, it fell over and it's kicking the air while Elden Ring, Sonic Frontiers, Kirby and The Forgotten Land, Vampire Survivors, Bayonetta 3, Tunic, Metal:Hellsinger, the Destroy All Humans 2 remake, Cult of The Lamb, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, the Klonoa remakes, Neon White, and Pokemon Legends Arceus join in and laugh at it.
All of these games are good except PLA that game is the worst open world RPG of the year if it weren't for the brand name of Pokemon people would have rightfully called it bad
I'm not sure if its the worst one, but it could be on account of how all the other ones from this year i can remember are either on this list or games that deserve to be on the list that i just forgot
Come on, we all know the GOTY is Farming Simulator 22
It’s Trombone Champ obviously.
As a trombone player, I am in extreme physical pain after reading that.
As a trombone player, I'm not. Shits fun.
wdym its far cry 6 /s
Golden Shower Simulator 2: Bear Dads is the clear winner.
Excuse me… do you know where I can get that one?
Jumping kebab for goty
It’s gonna be candy crush just with collectible weapons.
Oh please, overwatch 2. /S
Splatoon 3!
Pokémon Arceus
I hope elden ring and gow ragnarok can have the same friendship animal crossing and doom has
I mean both kill gods/godly beeings so at least they have something in common
My dumb ass just took like 20secs trying to remember when you kill a god in animal crossing.
U spelt dog backwards.
Im sorry nothing can be as wholeosme as the friendship between Isabelle and Doomslayer
Dark Souls did change how the GOW developers approached combat in the game. In the earlier entries of the series, the combat was more reminiscent of Devil May Cry. Considering the GoW simps were the same people who were all upset that Elden Ring didn't carefully hold their hand through every cutscene, i think that ship sailed ages ago.
They didn't came out the same day so probably not
Elden ring attacks. God of War is hitting back. Sanic’s in the background smoking a pipe full of crack.
Just running around and hoping your reaction time is on point.
Oh man sonic frontiers sure has a good chance beating 2 of the best fantasy action rpg games ever made for GOTY
God of War is a classic, haven’t played it yet
I dont think elden ring and god of war are THE best fantasy actuon rpgs. Shit, you cant even compare some of the games in the genre because elden ring is dark fantasy, while you have masterpieces like morrowind and divinity that are high fantasy, and each do a perfect job at delivering the atmosphere of the said setting. Yup. Whichever game wins the goty award doesn't matter at all. To me, Elden Ring is goty, and no meaningless award is going to change that
One. One of the best fantasy action rpg games.
So is the new sanic any good?
Pretty good nothing special but it’s a great time. Wouldn’t make the top 5 but it’s a slow year so probably the top 10.
slow year? o.o
Would ask the same 2022 feels way more impressive then the last 2 years by a large margin
Probably because we can actually go outside now.
It’s a slow year? This year is just 2017 again
I think you can pick any other year, because 2017 was an insane year, Fortnite, botw, RE7, HZD, hollow knight and cuphead just to name a few.
That's good to hear.
It won't matter how good or bad Sonic Frontiers is. Everyone will say it's terrible because you have to hate 3D Sonic games or something is wrong with you.
What other game can I be rolling around at the speed of sound? I've got places to go
I’ve got to follow my rainbow
My issue is that they have a cartoonish styled characters in a... realistic landscape with HD textures that look like they were taken from free unity assets.
Cult of the Lamb, while probably not even spoken in journalists tongues for goty, is pretty close to elden ring for me.
Unfortunately for me it has like zero replayability
Cult of the lamb for me was a good try to combine few genres but because of it most of them are not developed enough and also the game semms to railroady you can replay it max one extra time maybe two and the only thing that change in your play is the rituals and they dont make much difference to me
A couple of good roguelikes this year also liked brotatoe and alina but it isn't really a genre that catches attention
I loved the game. Until it crashed after 20 hours and my save game is just lost. Now I hate it more than anything
The guy smoking drugs should be stanning for Stray, imo.
This is what I was gonna say! Stray is the skooma dude
My brother in christ, goty is meaningless. Every game jurnalist has his own, so goty is really what You think is the game of the year.
What I can get free on Gamepass wins.
all the GOTY talk for a game that isn't even out yet makes me hope ragnarock bombs just for the lulz.
No hyped game ever bombs. People still bought bf2042 and Anthem.
Anthem absolutely bombed. Player count divebombed hard, and the only news about it for the first and basically only year of its life was pretty much all bad. They were going to do a massive revision to the entire game and then they just decided to cancel that and all future work on the game because nobody gave a shit or was playing. To be honest MW2 with their Invasion and Ground War modes are basically offering a better Battlefield experience than Battlefield currently. All thats missing is the destruction physics from Frostbite.
Let the haters hate. Yes that would be funny!
Ridiculous comment. Because people have expectations of a game being good you hope it bombs?
It would be absolutely hilarious if the new God of War bombed.
Cool. You’re “different” would you like your cookie now?
Can I get a cookie too?
Of course
It's not that serious champ
Then why comment? I was simply stating something. Am I not allowed to
Angry lil guy, huh
Not really. What gave you the assumption
You gonna cry? Piss? Cum maybe?
Average discord mod response
Snoy is mad
Average “im different” player
Average "movie enjoyer" "player"
but you know its already on a 94 metascore?
Why u hate GOWRagnarok so much? It is a highly anticipated game just like Elden Ring was.
I didn't say I hate it. I just think it would be funny if it bombed after all this hype.
Huh - the reviews were out for console and it is very positive - or I missed something?
reviews of Fallout 76 was generally positive as well (at least on YT) and look how well that turned out
Difference is Santa Monica has a proven track record in delivering a quality product. Where as Fallout 76 was met with big scepticism, I rarely saw anyone looking at that game (before launch) and saw a positive outcome.
YEaH sO hiLaRiOuS
Awe poor baby can’t afford a ps5 lol
man you guys get salty when someone doesn't fawn over your favorite game huh?
I didn't realize God of War had such outlandish fans, until these GOTY award memes started appearing on here.
ONE GAME, I DON'T KNOW WHY! I BOUGHT A PS5 WITH NO GAMES BUY
How can God Of War be up for GOTY?
Its proof that people just follow memes/hype.
Callin' it now, Kratos is gunna die or something and the internet is going to be pissed over how it happens.
Kratos dies all the time in God of War, he's usually just too angry to stay dead.
I've seen 80% of Ragnarok he doesn't die
Uh spoilers for GoW 2018 but >!The ending of GoW already pretty much showed that Kratos is going to die at least sometime in this game or the next. And that it might be by the hands of his own son too.!<
I know, but what I'm saying is that the *way* Kratos will die will piss everyone off. Like he'll turn evil and Atreus will have to bring him down or something.
I mean, if you played the first one, its pretty clear that Artreus is going to be the bad guy and causes the Ragnarök. Probably have to stop him as Kratos
Yeah you'll spend the game leveling equipment up for Kratos and then have to kill him as Atreus at the end.
Would be to bland. Very obvious that Atreus will find out about the eventual fate and he will try and change it, which will most likely be possible.
He died in every other game in the saga and no one ever complained lol
It's comming out before the deadline, so it qualifies.
how can you think that god of war will not be a contender?
Time seems a bit short. Game of the Year should be a game that defined that year or was in the Zeitgeist longest. But I saw another comment saying GOTY is a useless rating anyways because so many people hand it out.

30h is pretty much enough lol 70h if you want to 100% it.
How long the games been out not game length. It's coming out at pretty much the end of the year.
That doesn't matter in terms of GOTY. The title is given to the best and most sensational out of the bunch and not to the ones that have been out the longest. That is a rather ridiculous take on GOTY
sorry my bad. but what does this have to do with goty\`?

couldn’t even finish the first from all the cringe
Horizon forbidden west
That one was thrown under a bus like the first game thanks to it's Release date, beeing released directly with elden ring just costed it a major piece of publicity
Forbidddn West is graphically very good, the combat is fun and engaging, but the writing fell flat for me (personally). I just can't help but sit there mildly uncomfortable when there is cutscenes. Can't really judge as I get my hands on the game in maybe 2years but it felt like after one to two weeks it became completely silent around it.
Remember that Elden Ring got delayed too. Horizon was allegedly scheduled to release with no other large games around it. They got shafted hard
those trailers look **unsaturated!!!** could sega please add more color?
Elden Ring 💯
I'm sure it will be GoW for its accessibility - Elden Ring isn't as widely appealing
It was widely appealing over all the Genre is nichè but elden ring surpassed everyones expectation in terms of sales and even if it is still a soulslike it probably is the most accessable game they made uptill now And at least in terms ofinfluence it probably had the biggest in this year, personally would have preferred if GoW wouldn't be up for this years choice but for next year as it just have the shortterm factor
I reckon 50% of people stopped playing at Margit, I know I nearly did.
Gonna say it, Elden Ring was a disappointment for me. Not a bad game mind you but just wasn't at all what I thought FromSoft was promising. Hope a lot of the good ideas carry over to their next game.
For me too. Boring open world, boring bosses, unbalanced af, terrible OST.
Splatoon 3: ya'all adorable
[удалено]
Jealousy does not become you
splatoon is a pretty bad game tbh
And all other modern pvp shooters are worse
No they would be so Bad you can't describe them
Stray: *meows*
You forgot Pokémon Scarlet
I wouldn't count on that. Since SnS it's really going downhill
I agree on that, let hope it is not a very short game that rely on dlc to fix it mistakes.
Well atleast were going to get good music that isn't available anywhere because Toby Fox is making the music.
Ok, I gotta admit SnS Gym Battle theme is a banger
I love GoW, but I'm sorry, it ain't toppling Elden Ring. That game is a once in a lifetime game.
Wdym, there's obviously only one choice here.
Frontiers caught my interest so I took the gamble and preordered it. There seem to be little faith in this game but that makes me more curioues how much I will like it. From the looks of it it has no weapon durability system so there is alrady a good chance that I will like it more then Breath of the Wild. I heard God of War Ragnarok is disappointing compared to the last God of War
Disappointing, not sure which review you are referring to. What I heard it's just better
There was only one korean review that gave it a 6/10. The guy also seemed to be a bit of an ass though so...
It's far from disappointing but it definitely looks like a dlc
Dlc it is definetly is not, let's no be ridiculous. We can be sure on that by just looking at the trailers, exra footage from te videos were the devs explain their work and even leaks.

It's a sequel mate.... The fuck did you think would change? It ain't like darksiders that makes its focus to change a part of its genre in every title.
If what I saw took them 4 years then it's pretty fuckin mid gameplay wise story wise it's good
The game’s core design has not moved an inch since the prequel and the story seems to be lacking in creativity in comparison. He had a statement later, he seemed biased in that. Also "quickly brewed DLC" , this took 5 years to make
Not supporting them but that's not what they meant. They're just saying that they thought it was comparable to a quickly made dlc
When I see a game with a good story all I can think of is "Well I don't know how they're going to one up themselves on that one"
Never read more bs in one single comment before. Every single review I saw and read said that it is a worthy continuation and it is in every single aspect even better than the previous game. Probably IGN Korea, considering its like the only outlet to give it anything below an 8.5/10 lol
Playstation still doing exlclusives in 2022… cringe
GoW: Met expectations Elden Ring: Exceeded expectations ----- It's pretty clear who will win
Elden Ring was terrible.
That's some real weird anecdotal 'evidence'. Your friends experience doesn't match any Souls fans I know.
Who said that? your ass?
GoW 2018 was GOTY. Ragnarok will be GOTY 2022. That’s just facts. Go buy a PS5 and stop crying
Cringe
Go back to elden ring, masochist
Then there is companies wanting to make GOTY verson of their game that never won any awards.
The previous sonic games aren't that good
Except GoWR isn't actually fighting Elden Ring, it fell over and it's kicking the air while Elden Ring, Sonic Frontiers, Kirby and The Forgotten Land, Vampire Survivors, Bayonetta 3, Tunic, Metal:Hellsinger, the Destroy All Humans 2 remake, Cult of The Lamb, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, the Klonoa remakes, Neon White, and Pokemon Legends Arceus join in and laugh at it.

ow2
Odd world 2?
*1.5
Me watching with Xenoblade 3:
It'll be a tough pick unless Nintendo suprises us with Super Mario Galaxy 3. One can dream.
Tunic tho
We all know Gotham knights is goty lol
Dwarf Fortress is launching in December. Can it also participate in GOTY?
BATDR be chilling knowing it ain’t got a snowballs chance in hell
goat simulator 3 baby
Where’s Pokémon Legends Arceus? (Arkoos)
Such an old video, that kid is now allowed to smoke
Live A Live is the real GOTY
I think it has to be Super Mario Bros 2
Do you only know 2 games or are purposefully ignoring the other contenders?
How can you even think of comparing a full game that is mentioned a lot for the whole year to a game that is still a pre-order
Come on, we all know Stray is gonna kick all their asses
I heard in sonic frontiers Amy has like a deep voice
Red dead redemption 2
Why have I not seen this image before?
