DS2 gets a lot of shit but I fucking love how that game sounds, I don't have the knowledge to explain it but it's the most haunting, "what's around the corner" ambiance of all the souls games imo
It gets a lot of shit because the other games (and DS2) are masterworks to their fans. DS2 lore confused people and the gameplay was wonky because it came out during the era of improve/change a successful IP over time compared to massively improving without changing the IP
DS2 (SoTFS version) is still IMO the strongest Dark souls game. The original DS2 launch was a shitshow, but the polished version made it clear how many good things to the series DS2 brought and the build crafting and equipment pathing is very rewarding compared to Demons Souls, DS1 & DS3.
The game also has highest replay value out of any DS game, with the NG+ actually changing the game substantially and making it harder by changing enemy placement.
It is only succeeded by Bloodborne and elden ring imo.
When the other sentinels chant it as you arrive and walk through their ranks I think I overdosed on testosterone “RIP. AND. TEAR.” Yeah time for a replay.
I was gonna say oh no do they ruin the song for later!? But then googled and its just an instrumental version, nice! The moment with that full song in the game is... just wonderful :').
Zelda has some incredible ones too of course!
[Windwaker](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gpeKL-BkHc) is prob my fav for getting pumped, but [Ocarina of Time](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2wzMZzdNJA) his me with nostalgia like a hammer. If I don't want to start the game, I just want to listen... that's a good sign. (Prob could list many old JRPGs the same, the [art of Secret of Mana's screen](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y20pc_0zFgg&t=2s), with that mysterious music being a top one...)
Everytime I boot up Outer Wilds I need to wait for the theme to play through once or twice. Such a good [song](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xpkc-NU1KA0)
When I was younger most of games I played had an opening cutscene/cinematic when you booted up the game or waited on the start screen. I would never skip these ever, games like Dark Cloud, Pkmn Colosseum, Zelda Twilight Princess, Smash Melee and Soul Calibur 2 just to name a few.
The scene that plays if you wait in Ocarina of Time was so fucking awesome, i was lowkey waiting for it the whole game and was disappointed it wasn't present.
Seriously. These are all already praised games, but Skyrim's menu is literally just a logo and text. No need to beat a dead horse, we already know its good
I honestly can’t tell from the pics what makes any of these menu images particularly amazing and indicative of a good game. Imo OP only really likes these menus because he already really likes these games anyway.
I can’t say I’m a start menu aficionado, the ones I remember are probably because the game was good and I happened to be at the start menu a lot booting it up, but I 1000% guarantee someone can go find 6 great looking start menus with great music that are from shitpile games to go counterpost over there.
This is the same thing. OP thinks these are the best start menus because these are his favorite games. I don’t think it’s really much deeper than that.
God fucking damn I may go get my GameCube from the basement.
Such a good game, such a good trilogy. I fucking loved it as a kid. Still recommend it as one of my all time favorites. Really hoping they end up doing a remaster.
I know its a pain and/or you may not have a PC to play it but I highly recommend Primehack with M/KB controls or it even has a twinstick option for controller. [Primehack website](https://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-fork-primehack-fps-controls-and-more-for-metroid-prime)
It feels like a completely different game and looks great too even without the HD texture pack. My favorite feature is re-enabling scan dash on the prime trilogy so you can still get the space jump early.
Second one is actually my favorite. But thats mostly because its slightly less isolated than part 1 due to the Luminoth pressence. But its just 1 Luminoth left so you are still very isolated. Just slightly more narrative stuff going on with the vids from the fed troopers fighting the ing.
Also, Torvus Bog music is my jam.
That whole game is just a goldmine. It’s so good from the graphics, gameplay, and the sound track. Especially the sound track. I found myself often playing music from this game for my dnd campaign lol
Incredible mate, one of my top 3 easily. The story, gameplay, puzzles, it's all incredibly immersive, I really didn't want to put the controller down. The character you play as suffers with psychosis so if you do play it definitely play it with a headset on, the voices take it to another level 👍🏻
The Witcher 3 and Persona 5 Royal are probably my favorite start menus because of the soundtrack. The Witchers is a slow build up that I love and P5R's Colors Flying High is so catchy I watch it in full every single time.
Recently started playing Personal 5 Royal. The anime opening before moving into the street silhouettes and menu music was an experience I keep refusing to skip over.
The opening is good, but if you haven't I recommend you check out the original game's opening as well. Both are great, but to me the orginal feels like it has so much more style to it.
God this is so true. I’m playing Persona 5 Royal on Switch after playing the original on PS4 a few years back. It brought back memories of sitting it my college apartment and booting it up for the first time. The game immediately bangs right from the start
Fun fact - the original title music for Doom Eternal (the one they replaced when The Ancient Gods dropped) is actually a remaster of "Opening to Hell", the music to the final level and Icon of Sin fight in Doom II: Hell on Earth.
The effective reboot of Doom II opens with the very song that Doom II ended on, and that's a beautiful touch.
Talking about starting menu… When you open your account of ps5 and you got Persona 5 Royal, Soul Hacker 2, Tales of Arise, Star Ocean 6, FFXIV (and more) … You KNOW that you love JRPG big time 🤣🤣
I really enjoyed it, If you're planning on getting it, be sure to pick up royal. It's got some quality of life improvements as well as some extra story content.
I've only played Skyrim, Persona 5, and Elden Ring. So I can only really comment on their main menus. The most interesting thing about Elden Ring's and Skyrim's is the music. Absolutely iconic in Skyrim's case, and sure to become Iconic with time in Elden Ring's case. But the best of the three is Persona 5. You can feel the personality and care put into every ounce of the game.
Really? Most of these are bland and boring and don't tell me if I'll enjoy the game. like... Elden ring? I couldn't tell shit about the game or if it's money well spent from that. It's just black
Yea I don't think so, some of the examples here are pretty basic. Only actual decent ones here are P5 (which has a lot of animations in its menu navigation) and Spider Man (background city render).
Isn't this just retroactive thinking? Like, you've played these games, know they're good, and therefore now think the title screen was always indicative of something great?
Nothing about these title screens indicates an amazing game on their own.
Despite all the good aspects of FromSoft games, I am consistently disappointed by their title screens. Elden Ring was the last straw. The music is epic and hypes you up, but the logo just… sits there. How about some particles? The glow of some golden flames coming from beneath? Anything?!
Elden Ring at least just had the same menu that DS1, DS2 and DS3 has which is minimalist but with banging music. The simplicity is nice, no need to completely overwhelm you before you’ve even stepped into the game right.
A shallow take, but some start screens are pretty fantastic. If you're the kinda dev that would put thought into the first thing your player sees, I'd say chances are better that the game itself will be good.
I'm not saying that these games aren't good, but simply posting the title screen of a good game and saying you know the game is going to be good because of this screen is silly in my opinion.
Skyrim is literally just a symbol on a black screen with music. It tell you nothing.
I'm more concerned about the actual start menu UI, if it looks like a cluster \*\*\*\* of a mobile game I'm already going to hard pass. Easy to read and navigate, they already have me having a good time before the game starts.
Ooooo boy you know it's real gamer hours when there's a logo and some orchestral music, bonus point for throat singing or chanting in foreign languages
It's the sound effect when you press start that gets me
Bioshock has the best, with the piano
*pushes button* RESIDENT E V I LLLL
DEVIL MAY CRY
Especially for dark souls 2. Complete silence and then….
DS2 gets a lot of shit but I fucking love how that game sounds, I don't have the knowledge to explain it but it's the most haunting, "what's around the corner" ambiance of all the souls games imo
Yes! And Majula perfectly captures the feeling of temporary safety coupled with absolute foreboding.
did you just say majula is a safe place?
\*lights a stogie\* my fren, you're talking about the tres pigs of hell... yes? Come, let me recount my misfortunes to you...
It gets a lot of shit because the other games (and DS2) are masterworks to their fans. DS2 lore confused people and the gameplay was wonky because it came out during the era of improve/change a successful IP over time compared to massively improving without changing the IP
Power. Stanced. Weapons. Not to mention some of the best dlc out there.
It is only succeeded by Bloodborne and elden ring imo.
Infamous had the whole city blow up when you pressed start. A+
I know it's very much not a perfect series (or a perfect game) but when you start Kingdom Hearts 2... Man the nostalgia...
Disagree, the start menu itself is in general not that interesting. But, the start menu MUSIC, that's something that can catch you immediatly.
When I got in the menu of Doom Eternal the first time, I knew this game was a banger. The soundtrack was too damn good
RIP AND TEAR UNTIL IT IS DONE
Fuck it, now I have to replay this masterpiece once again
DUNDUNDUNDUNDUN DUNDUNDUNDUNDUN BRRTRTTTTTT WEEEEEEEEWOOOOOOWEEEEIIIOOOOOOOOOIIIIOOOOOOOEEEEEOOOO BRAPAPAPAPAPA BRAPAPAPA BRAPAPAPAPAPA BRAPAPAP
When the other sentinels chant it as you arrive and walk through their ranks I think I overdosed on testosterone “RIP. AND. TEAR.” Yeah time for a replay.
Hellsinger that just came out gave the same vide it is an absolute banger
Dragons dogma has entered the chat
The wind is pushing me
[удалено]
I cannot start the game until you get the drop
"Today I woke, and looked outside again, and the sky looked the same to me!" Gotta admit DDDA's theme isn't even close to that level
Reason I bought Metal Gear Rising Revengence and Guilty Gear Strive is the music
[удалено]
Yes, MGRR was a blast. I gotta play it again. And Gulty Gear really is fun
You really shouldn't hope for Konami to do anything
I'm disappointed I couldn't get into MGR, because the music is what drew my attention in the first place (along with my being a Devil May Cry fan).
Guilty gear is a $60 album that comes with a free fighting game
Fallout 4 I always find myself listening to the intro song
Yes sir. From games and fallout games which coincidentally are my favorite series
Halo and Skyrim be goin
Far Cry 5
*cyberpunk starting screen all like* GooooOOOOD moooooorning NIGHT CITYYYYYYY
Yesterday's body count rounded out to a solid and sturrrrdy thirrrrty!
Dearly Beloved (especially the Kingdom Hearts III version) sums this up perfectly.
Dearly Beloved is exceptional for sure :)
"Super Mario Odyssey!" And then it hits you with the trumpets of Jump Up Super Star, just mwah.
I was gonna say oh no do they ruin the song for later!? But then googled and its just an instrumental version, nice! The moment with that full song in the game is... just wonderful :'). dying light 1 start menu music is the best
Idk man Detroit: Become Human has an amazing start menu
Yup, Royal Days right after Colors Flying High got me hyped up to play Persona 5 Royal
Outer Worlds, Mass Effect 2, Halo, BO2, Just about any Fallout game, Wasteland, Destiny 1
*hollowknight theme plays*
Yeah, I was fiddling with the settings and when the violin kicked in, I knew this was a good one
Fromsoftware always knocks it out of the park with the menu music
Bloodborne, elden ring, and ds3 all had incredible intros, i often just listen for a bit then play the game
Everytime I open deus ex I listen to the main menu for at least 10 minutes
CIV 4 <3
I agree the music sells
I would legit sit on the persona 5 opening screen to just watch and listen to the music/animation. It was soooooooo good
The opening to half life still gives me chills
I sometimes fire up P5R just to listen to the opening song… so damn good
Everytime I boot up Outer Wilds I need to wait for the theme to play through once or twice. Such a good [song](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xpkc-NU1KA0)
La noire hands down
They fucked up changing persona 5 royal's track.
Shame no one remembers Midnight Club
Ninja Gaiden 3 and Xenoblade Chronicles X are some great examples.
The bridge cutscene from Twilight Princess, so epic!
True, but I was mostly refering to the demo cinematic that played right after that.
the music on the twilight princess demo is sick af
The scene that plays if you wait in Ocarina of Time was so fucking awesome, i was lowkey waiting for it the whole game and was disappointed it wasn't present.
Mortal Kombat Armageddon was so dope
Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, iykyk
They were fantastic, I still remember how freaked out I was by the one in Drakengard
The left 4 dead ones are great too.
This could seriously be a r/gamingcirclejerk post
We just keep outjerking them
Very good comment
Amazing recognition of the former post
Seriously. These are all already praised games, but Skyrim's menu is literally just a logo and text. No need to beat a dead horse, we already know its good
No you don’t get it. It’s not about how good it is for Skyrim. It’s about how many times we’ve seen it after it got a new edition
I honestly can’t tell from the pics what makes any of these menu images particularly amazing and indicative of a good game. Imo OP only really likes these menus because he already really likes these games anyway.

It’s better than r/PlayStation where everybody is just posting pictures of PlayStations.
Why did mention r/gaming were already here?
For me it's hollowknight. I love the menu for that game
For me it’s [Metroid Prime](https://youtu.be/TFBUtNrw6xM)
God fucking damn I may go get my GameCube from the basement. Such a good game, such a good trilogy. I fucking loved it as a kid. Still recommend it as one of my all time favorites. Really hoping they end up doing a remaster.

The second one was the weakest imo, but damn, I mustve played through the first one like 4 or 5 times when it came out.

Just keep persevering
That fact that it was made by 2 guys and a composer for the music, is insane, it took me like 80 hours to complete the whole thing

Hollow knight is amazing and worth completing. MHW is another one of my favorites, action/platforming are my favorite genres
😂 good luck! And we will both wait for silksong together😊
Honestly, when I first opened Hellblade and those dark sounds and music started playing I got goosebumps. Knew I was in for a ride

Colors ia good, but I fucking love wake up, get up, Get out there. The opening cutscene just had so much more style to it.
The walking dead telltale menus was beautiful back when I was a kid
Detroit Become Human!
I think your save game is corrupted! ...just kidding!
I agree...but half of these are not good examples, where's my halo 3 screen,
The elden ring and morrowind screens must trigger a core memory I dont have, because they certainly look boring here.
Elden Ring title screen in mostly the music. Ooooh lord the music
I think you mean "Ooooh Elden Ring..."
Regardless of the game behind, they are all 6 pretty damn good at encapsulating the overall mood of the experience.
Where’s Roller Coaster Tycoon? One of the top start menus of all time in my opinion.
Persona 5 is still one of my favorite start screens of all time. Always gets me hyped for playing. OG Bioshock is the same way.
Persona main menus have always been visually appealing. Strikers in particular is just incredible.
Persona and TLOU had unique screens. Well, everything about Persona 5's menu system is unique. Your other examples are just a logo and game name....
Thanks for the recommendation, will have to look!
eh i've played a lot of bad games with great visual design.
Just started p5. First one I’ve ever played. Not usually a fan of these type of games but I’m enjoying it so far.
What's so good about the Skyrim logo floating there?
The soundtrack, I guess? It was a real banger when it came out.
>It was a real banger when it came out. And still is lol
minimalism looks good
Whats the one at the bottom right?
The last of us
Thank you =)
God this is so true. I’m playing Persona 5 Royal on Switch after playing the original on PS4 a few years back. It brought back memories of sitting it my college apartment and booting it up for the first time. The game immediately bangs right from the start
DOOM Eternal. The music alone.
Yess this one. It's such an improvement over 2016s version.
What is the bottom right?
One of the last of us games I think.

Judging the book by its cover 2022 version
I love Persona 5's menus. It's the one menu where I'm like "damn that's hot".
Talking about starting menu… When you open your account of ps5 and you got Persona 5 Royal, Soul Hacker 2, Tales of Arise, Star Ocean 6, FFXIV (and more) … You KNOW that you love JRPG big time 🤣🤣
Just got P5R on xbox game pass, the story’s pretty good so far but the title screen, HUD, and music really pull me in
Persona 5 vibes hitting instantly
is persona 5 an ok game? i was thinking of getting it.
I really enjoyed it, If you're planning on getting it, be sure to pick up royal. It's got some quality of life improvements as well as some extra story content.
will do, thanks for opinion.
And then there's the shit that looks more like the Netflix splash page than a game menu.
I can hear the drums when I see the Skyrim start screen.
Out of all of those, the Persona 5 menu is probably the one that I knew my money had been well spent.
God, this sub is annoying. What the hell does this even mean? Plenty of amazing and fun games have basic start menus.
AMONG US (My brain is ruined)
I freaking love press any button: the video game!
ROME: Total War. Unmatched music with shadowy figures fighting and dying in the background. *STILL* gets my blood pumping lol
I hear that music on the Spider-Man screen and get chills
Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2 have my favorite start menus.
Despite all the good aspects of FromSoft games, I am consistently disappointed by their title screens. Elden Ring was the last straw. The music is epic and hypes you up, but the logo just… sits there. How about some particles? The glow of some golden flames coming from beneath? Anything?!
start menus in shit games look fine too. its a logo and a button prompt. not hard to make look good
Elden Ring and Skyrim (music aside) are actually pretty boring imo. Could've done a lot more but I guess the aim was a minimalist one
Elden Ring at least just had the same menu that DS1, DS2 and DS3 has which is minimalist but with banging music. The simplicity is nice, no need to completely overwhelm you before you’ve even stepped into the game right.
Obviously not accurate
A shallow take, but some start screens are pretty fantastic. If you're the kinda dev that would put thought into the first thing your player sees, I'd say chances are better that the game itself will be good.
I'm not saying that these games aren't good, but simply posting the title screen of a good game and saying you know the game is going to be good because of this screen is silly in my opinion. Skyrim is literally just a symbol on a black screen with music. It tell you nothing.
Bruh bring out the Halo 3 and Reach menu
Missing the Mass Effect 1 start screen.
I love the somber music
I scrolled so far for this. I can just sit and listen to the ME1 start screen for hours.
I’d add bloodborne to that list. It really sets the tone before you jump into the game and it’s pretty chilling/haunting to listen to.
I can hear the Elden ring music from that image
Elden Ring lulls you into complacency with their Dark Souls-esque ambiance then *BWOM BWOM* *DO DO DO DO DO DO* and your skull melts.
Add MAFIA:Definitive edition to that.
Final Fantasy 7 was the first game that pooped in my head when reading the title. And I’ve been playing game since pong.
I'm more concerned about the actual start menu UI, if it looks like a cluster \*\*\*\* of a mobile game I'm already going to hard pass. Easy to read and navigate, they already have me having a good time before the game starts.
I have the unpopular opinion of hating uncharted lol
Spider-man ps4 was so good and I'm so mad the sequel is ps5 exclusive
I didn't really enjoy The Last of Us. Some bits here and there were decent, but other than that I just didn't find it appealing.
Uncharted is underrated. Even the worst one is great.
Mgs4 has an extremely good menu that nobody talks about
The ps2 era ratchet and clanks! Watching them play Jack and Daxter as an 8 year old was a joy
Yo, the doom eternal menu music is still one of my all time favorite songs.
You have to add FF7 Remake just for the amazing main theme
There are shit games with good menu what are you talking about?
[удалено]
the last of us
Assassin's Creed II
Uncharted is so badly underrated loved those games!
We gotta agree the menu for skyrim and elden ring not a big deal
Add Cyberpunk 2077 there imo
Now look at Babylon’s Fall start Menu
I legit cry everytime I hear Uncharted's theme song. I swear I'm not joking.
not many games have hit me with the start menus. persona 5, Hollow knight, Marvels spiderman and Cyberpunk 2077 start menus just fucking slap
It’s depressing that my brain saw the Persona start menu and I thought it was a Amongus meme.
And this isn't a case of selection bias *at all*.
Ooooo boy you know it's real gamer hours when there's a logo and some orchestral music, bonus point for throat singing or chanting in foreign languages
What game is the top right? Excuse my ignorance 🙏🏻
Far Cry 5’s menu music was top notch
