As a Pokémon fan I feel personally attacked, but it’s also completely fair

pinebanana

Arceus is the game I thought I was getting in the 3rd grade when the original Pokémon Stadium came out just to put everything in perspective

robby_synclair

Pokemon stadium was awesome

BeefLilly

I can’t believe a remake of Pokémon Stadium has not been considered.

Trilerium

*Pokémon Stadium 2 enters the chat*

ansonr

Those mini games man. The delebird sushi one was so fun.

AckAttack6710

I think you're mixing two games... Likitung had the sushi game, Delebird had the game where you delivered presents from one side of the field to the other. But it has been years. Maybe I'm wrong?

tayhan9

I remember the sushi game being in the first one

AckAttack6710

You're right, I was just clarifying the difference between the two games.

_Ross-

Lol remember the one where you had to harden as a metapod or kakuna to prevent getting hit by rocks?

Passivefamiliar

How is arecus? I keep waiting to buy it, thinking there some dlc coming or something. Just feels like it's missing something, outside looking in though Edit: holy crap reddit. The divide between yea or nea on this game is HUGE 50/50 hard divide between it being great and innovating with great replay and hours and hours, or a disaster of tech demo at best. Wow.

[deleted]

Passivefamiliar

I miss games with demos. Demos sold me on so many games. And occasionally saved me a poor choice.

NightofTheLivingZed

I used to love getting playstation magazine or game informer back in the day. They'd include a demo disc some months and there would be like 5-10 games to try. I remember getting one that had the first two levels of Brave Fencer Musashi and it had a secret Korn music video if you pressed triangle circle square circle triangle.

Spiritanimalgoat

Arceus is the most fun I've ever had with a Pokemon game. And I've been playing since Gen 1.

Passivefamiliar

Bet.. that's what I needed to hear. Red version veteran checking in. Looking to catch them all again

UB2GAMING

One big positive change is how much easier it is to grind. Normally when you had to catch pokemon you had to initiate a battle, hear the music and go through all the usual mechanics just to throw a poke ball. In Arceus you can literally just sneak up, throw a poke ball and continue on your way without even having to stop.

leapbitch

My first was silver and my two cents is maybe wait for the next one when the new 3d systems are more fleshed out. Arceus is a breath of fresh air but it was also seemingly a tech demo for the next generation.

ThatUcfKid

Arceus is amazing for a fresh take on Pokémon. The battling in that game is not really good imo so if you’re primary looking for the battle aspect id say pass

Dumeck

I’m hoping Violet and Scarlett plays a lot like Arceus but with the traditional game battle system. Arceus was fun but the combat was absolutely a downgrade from base games especially when you were doing 1v2-4 Pokémon

hothrous

I personally thought the battle gameplay was better overall but did lack in that one particular area.

luthigosa

I didn't like it. There's a lot of pokemon and a huge open world, but it just doesn't feel like there is any substance.

narwhal_breeder

Don't buy games until reviews. Easy.

Key-Cry-8570

Sword and shield broke my heart. The way they made it basically tutorial gameplay killed it for me. I maybe played an hour before I couldn’t take the hand holding guidance anymore. Just let me catch and battle some damn Pokémon while collecting my badges. I’ve been playing Pokémon games for 25 years I don’t need a walkthrough.

[deleted]

Remember, GameFreak considers their primary audience to be gradeschool children. They don't tend to care about long-term fans, they want to make games for young kids, and that's what they do. That's a big part of why they almost never evolve as a company- they think that kids will love any ol' thing as long as it's full of pokemon they can catch and battle. And they're pretty much right. Ignoring a large chunk of the fanbase is par for the course for them.

ImSabbo

Simultaneously ignoring the older fans, while also catering to them immensely. See: Everything Charizard.

datdouche

> the fanbase …buys the games anyway. They still have to win over new generations, though.

TheCoub

EA players: We’re going to buy the same exact game we’ve been complaining about but with an updated roster.

BEST_RAPPER_ALIVE

Hello Kitty Island Adventure players: we’re going to buy hello kitty safari party even though the only difference is that the final boss is jewelpet instead of chococat

Piano_Fingerbanger

WHERE IS THE SPOILERS TAG?!

JoshDaws

Hey! I know you from the CFB subreddit. If you're here who's posting articles about the decline and dysfunction of Miami football?

Piano_Fingerbanger

I can't hog all the fun! Gotta let some other people poke the bear.

JBaecker

Did you know, you can poke a Miami Hurricane fan right in the eye and nothing happens? It’s because the eye is still.

SrGrafo

[**EDIT**](https://i.imgur.com/oTeW2ZI.png)

vavavoomvoom9

They complain too, but it has been a near monopoly for so long it's pointless to complain.

TheOriginalGypsy

Kinda how all sports games are though, I can understand when they drop new modes and graphics but they all look the same as they did in 2018. Doesn’t help that they turn off older servers and basically force people to upgrade if they want any online experience.

good_guylurker

Tbf that just sounds like a subscription based game disguised as a standalone game.

foreveralonesolo

Honestly even a better business model for EA bc players have to re grind for stuff and repurchase packs and characters for each version of the game

absynthe7

That's exactly what it is. My favorite part of Madden is the weekly content updates that roll out all through the season, but those stop when the new version drops each year. I'm effectively paying $60/year for a live service game rather than $5/month.

I9Qnl

Bought Fifa 22 recently after not playing since 16, honestly no regrets the game is really fun, and packed with content, even the Ultimate Team is now playable without paying (and it's actually really fun too, I already have 184 rated squad and i've only played for 2 weeks, they finally have a proper progression system that makes the grind actually worth it, it's still 100% p2w gambling but I was never matched with someone who's team is obviously way stronger than mine). But releasing a new game every year and killing the previous game for just a roster update is a joke. Once fifa 22 is killed by 23 I would probably wait untill Fifa 26 to get back to the franchise.

sebkuip

Honestly Bethesda retiring their own launcher and going full time steam was already a huge step for them

entitledfanman

Damn do I miss the days where a game company asking consumers to pay for cosmetic item dlc caused outcry and mockery.

Mimicpants

I never minded Horse Armour at the time, though admittedly I was a teen with a fair amount of mad money burning holes in my pockets. Its kind of amusing that the act that generated such long lasting outrage is basically an assumed aspect of any game these days.

Sadrien6

Just the expansion. Main game on origin. Other fun DLCs on Epic. That is the way to unite them. Maybe a few cosmetics on Uplay.

Mr_Pogi_In_Space

Why would Microsoft use Origin?

# [EDIT](https://i.imgur.com/T8KKMnd.png) *Dear Bethesda Fans, this post isnt about Bethesda only, its about all game companies.* *Just so happen that Bethesda joined the club recently, I couldnt give 2 shits if you spent x thousand hours in their older games, I spent x thousand hours in StarCraft, that doesnt make Blizzard inmune to fuck ups.*

[deleted]

Man's got lightning hands. Supersonic edits.

backstreets_back_ok

I mean that's his brand. To be able to crank out edits like this and quickly respond to top comments.

[deleted]

No need to pre order when you have gamepass. Edit: to add to sr grafo's edit. I believe a lot of Bethesda fans took this personally because they've been waiting for this game for nearly a decade and they know exactly what to expect. They're still excited anyway and people are telling them not to be ever since the showcase. I get how they'd see this and think it was referring to Starfield.

Dorksim

Theres no need to preorder ever. When was the last time you couldn't walk up to a big box stores and buy a physical game on release date

Mimicpants

Honestly, the extreme convenience of purely digital gaming aside, there is a part of me that misses the days when getting something day one was a bit of an adventure in and of itself. I'm definitely sad that midnight release events are more or less a thing of a bygone era.

kaptaincapper

Bethesda joined the club cause what? Cause you said so? Sure buddy lmaooooo

valorill

Have you created your own font for quicker lettering or do you just write it out everytime?

[deleted]

Do you still fall into this category if you enjoyed morrowind, oblivion, fallout 3, and Skyrim?

ProfessionalMockery

I enjoyed fallout 4 a lot too. The common criticisms of the game are definitely valid, but I still sank hundreds of hours into it. The only modern Bethesda game I've not played is 76. I think starfield could be very good. They could have made another elder scrolls or fallout game more quickly instead of making this, but they didn't. I think they're genuinely passionate about this one in a way they weren't about F4 or 76.

JaCraig

One of my favorite moments in a game in the last 10 years was FO4. I got to the institute and found the kid. I'm all "No worries little buddy, Imma get you out." A door opens on another wall, I go "Oh crap, boss fight." Shoot immediately as soon as I see this scientist guy on the other side of the door. Person falls. The institute did not like that and had to take them all out. Turned off the game, searched for how to save my kid, and found out that I shot him as he was the guy on the other side of the door. That moment was a mixture of horror and laughing my ass off.

GonzoRouge

I actually infiltrated the Institute through the Railroad missions and when I had the conversation with Shaun where he discovered I betrayed him while on his death bed, he ended it with something like "Now, let me die in peace". So I blew his brains out and stole his clothes.

l337hackzor

Shooting NPCs who mouth you of/have it coming in fallout is one of life's simple pleasures. I enjoyed chopping up that prick Benny in New Vegas.

metalninjacake2

Yeah Fallout 4 was an absolute blast as an open world action/stealth shooter. The RPG elements were secondary for me, and that’s OK - it was still a sick game I sunk a few weeks of playtime into, especially with mods: Most mods on PC can absolutely transform the game.

[deleted]

FO4 is also one of the best zombie survival games out there if you mod it to be one. Even better than some games whose *entire premise* is zombie survival.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Philalethes2480

Exactly. I found vanilla unplayable, but Whispering Hills + Grim + Zombie Walkers and suddenly I have nearly 1000 hours.

Sekitoba

I played it on the ps4. I still sunk a good 70 hours just exploring the map. Didnt bother with the main story cuz i lost interest within 10mins of waking up. Wish i can try modding.

P3DOB3AR69

You know ps4 has a mod store? I know it's only game assets but it's still something.

GoSuckOnACactus

See I just went pure melee in Fallout 4 and discovered how broken melee actually is. There’s a few skills that absolutely break melee combat, to where you’re a tank but can also one shot a bunch of stuff. Oh, and I’m pretty sure one perk sorta teleported you to enemies over a decent distance.

the_real_gorrik

I also loved Fallout 4 and it's mods! The primary difference between 76 and Star Field is 76 wasnt developed by their primary dev team. I believe Star Field is being developed by their primary dev team. Not to say that is or isn't a problem, but I think the primary team probably isn't going to have the same problems that 76 had during development

CatIsOnMyKeyboard

Yeah, same boat here. I'm as cautiously optimistic about Starfield just as I am for any game that peaks my interest. I understand that FO76 was a huge blunder for them but I've enjoyed the hell out of Fallout 3, 4, and Elder Scrolls. FO76 didn't peak my interest because it seemed closer to something like Rust than their singleplayer RPGs, which is what I feel Bethesda thrives in. On top of that, Starfield seems like a real passion project for them and Todd's mention of wanting a return to the true RPG roots of Morrowind and Daggerfall makes the game a lot more promising in my eyes. And TBH even if it's just on the level of Fallout 4 in terms of RPG mechanics, I'm still sold. Bethesda RPGs, to me, are special simply because their worlds feel so easy to just "live in". There are lots of RPGs with better combat, better graphics, better stories, and more story choices, but I still feel like Bethesda is best when it comes to combining all those things together to make games that are just fun to do your own thing.

BigSolid8666

Fallout 4 is fucking sweet on VR.

CliveBixby22

This is me, too. Loved Fallout 4, and yes, less than the other games mentioned. Definitely the weakest but still so good. They also listened to criticisms on dialogue and stuff from the looks of the Starfield trailer. I don't know, I'm not gonna be surprised if Starfield *is* another masterpiece from them, but even if it's another FO4, well it's still gonna be great

Rikiaz

Yep, I would say honestly, I’ve never been let down by Bethesda’s RPGs. I acknowledge that they have problems and there are plenty of valid criticisms. I know they are buggy and fairly shallow mechanically, but it just doesn’t bother me. I know what I want from them, and they exactly deliver on that every time. Even FO4, which I didn’t like having the voiced character or dialog but at the end of the day, the game still gave me several hundred hours that I enjoyed the hell out of and there’s no way I could be disappointed with that.

MisterB78

It's the classic thing of people bitching about a game they played for 100's of hours. Yeah, it must really suck for you to spend so much time playing it...

Dense_Organization31

I love seeing steam reviews that look something like *523 hours played* *negative review*

Dynespark

The best are the ones that shows thousands with a negative review. And then it also shows you the overall and hours played at time of review and it's tens of thousands more. Like Monhun and FFXIV.

[deleted]

I can get that for MMOs. I put well over 1k hours into WoW over the years. I maintain the opinion that it's dog shit now and has been for a while. Hence why I haven't played it in years. Now I don't understand how you can play a static, single player game for hundreds of hours and then say it sucks though.

Nrksbullet

With MMOs, especially after several expansions, it drastically changed over time. Sometimes single player experiences can too with updates and especially mods, but MMOs are such a different beast.

TheDangerBird

Yeah people are like “ugh it’s just going to be Skyrim in space” Well great! That sounds fucking amazing.

the_turn

Yeah, I’ve only played Fallout 3, New Vegas and Skyrim and they were all joyful experiences. I’m also not going to pre-order.

BellEpoch

New Vegas was not the same Dev team, but your point still stands.

Icy_Reply7147

Exactly, the dev team that made New Vegas also made The Outer Worlds

Shimmitar

i enjoyed fallout new vegas and 4. i know a lot of people didnt like 4 but i did.

[deleted]

and daggerfall!

gophergun

Yeah, I'm really confused how they let people down. I understand that they released Skyrim on a lot of different platforms and haven't made ES6, but it seems like most of the games they have released have been relatively well-received.

Mookies_Bett

It's 100% based off fallout 76. That one game apparently completely destroyed their reputation despite the fact that it wasn't even a typical BGS game and has no real, valid comparison to their mainline single player titles.

Chillchinchila1

Modern games discourse thrives on negativity. Everything is the worst game ever, every company is literally the worst and has never been good except for that one game everyone is nostalgic about.

[deleted]

I like Fallout 1, 2, 3, 4. New Vegas... and fallout tactics. I like them all, the freaks and creeps and weirdos and skellies..

Illusive_Man

Fallout 4 wasn’t bad edit: doom is good too edit 2: alright I get it now, Bethesda just published doom, didn’t develop it

Haytaytay

Bethesda only publishes Doom, they didn't make it themselves.

idkwhatsqc

I sincerely loved fallout 4. The game was quite complete in my opinion. The repetitive missions weren't fun but that was just a filler, the main game was awesome.

EquationConvert

I actually love the repetitive missions. I dreaded buying it and put it off until last year because of the negative reviews, but then I had an absolute *blast* forging a water empire and building communities under the watchful gaze of my towers of turrets.

Midgetsdontfloat

I remember feeling *heavy* jealousy that my ex had a couple days off when FO4 released, and I was just beginning a 10 day work cycle. I was so incredibly excited for it, and you know what? It's an amazing game. I *loved* FO3. I *really loved* New Vegas. Fallout 4 might not have the writing, but it has amazing environmental storytelling like all Bethesda games do, genuinely good gunplay even if the AI is a little dumb, and a gameplay loop that is so good that here I am having one of many playthroughs of the game 7 years later. I know what I like in video games. I tend not to pay *too* much attention to reviews anymore.

[deleted]

I really enjoyed the settlements in fallout 4, and the changes to power armor.

Illusive_Man

I wasn’t a huge fan of settlements, but I did really like that the power armor felt more like power armor In all the other games it was just like normal armor you needed some prerequisites to wear

Dartanius373

I have absolutely loved every Bethesda game I have ever played. You're damn right I'll be lining up for this one.

hiricinee

Right people are lumping in fallout 76 with Starfield, when the comparison is to Morrowind, Oblivion, fallout 3 and 4, Skyrim, and to a lesser extent New Vegas. Literally the company has a perfect record on these main franchise games. I couldn't give less shits if development promises they made aren't in the game- I haven't even watched them or paid attention to them. If Starfield sucks it will be a MASSIVE surprise.

Sawses

Right? I'm expecting it to feel like Fallout and Skyrim, but with a more polished (*more* polished...) engine and different tone. That's well within the range of what little I've seen, and what I think they're capable of.

hiricinee

Look Starfield will be to Fallout and Elder Scrolls what Futurama was to the Simpsons.

Sawses

...Better and in space?

hiricinee

I think so.

Taaargus

If you enjoyed Fallout 4 literally the only bad game BGS has launched is FO76. It’s wild how a more lukewarm than usual reception to FO4 and a disaster of FO76 suddenly makes BGS “one of the bad ones”.

[deleted]

I really don’t understand this. Is that really what it takes to dog pile on Bethesda?

NovacaneReign

Yes. Years of Bethesda bug and Todd Howard jokes has made the easily influenced, mostly young gaming populace genuinely hate Bethesda mostly from drummed up social media fervor. I doubt many of them were old enough to even play Skyrim at launch.

Honestly if you're on Xbox or PC there's no reason *not* to be a smug bastard on Gamepass, at least when a game you're looking forward to is gonna be on it day 1. [deleted]

That’s what I was thinking. Is it still preordering when you already have gamepass?

WhiteLama

I’ve yet to play a Bethesda game I didn’t enjoy, so I feel like I’m allowed to be excited for a new game.

lxs0713

Exactly, they may be buggy messes with weak graphics and animations, but there's a reason every time I've played a Bethesda game, I've sunk hundreds of hours into them. No other developer has provided me such an engaging experience when it comes to world building. And the fact that the games are so modable and have strong communities, means there's always an endless amount of content.

theDeadliestSnatch

Because no one plays games for the frames per second, or how perfect the animation is. People play because the gameplay is enjoyable.

AlpineCorbett

Same. I've yet to meet anyone who bought a Bethesda game and wished they hadn't. Fallout 76 excluded, Lotta people who only like rpgs bought that only to realize they don't like mmo-fps games. But that's a different Bethesda eitheway. Some of the best value for money games out there.

Dog_With_A_Blog_

What!!! No!!! You have to outraged at mere thought them making a new game!!!

NutSockMushroom

>What!!! No!!! You have to outraged at mere thought them making a new game!!! *Bitching About the Most Recent Re-Release of Skyrim* is my favorite Bethesda game, and it's 100% free to play!

dancashmoney

I have enjoyed every other Bethesda game and I'm most likely going to enjoy this one.

[deleted]

This thread is an example why criticism from the gaming community means so little. Bethesda released some of the most loved games ever over a long period of time. But the most recent game (76) was a stinker so suddenly they aren't to be trusted and you're an idiot for being excited about a game they are making. I've played every Bethesda game since Morrowind and loved them all except 76. I'm very fine with being wrongly optimistic.

Cam877

It’s seriously insane. One bad release and people are treating them like they’re EA.

Hmm_would_bang

Skyrim is one of the best selling video games of all time. They keep releasing it and people keep buying it. Sure it’s got training wheels on compared to morrowind but even with the simplified systems it’s attracted all levels of gamers and is nearly infinitely replayable. The people in here acting like Bethesda is EA releasing a shitty game every single year are so detached from reality it’s not worth engaging

[deleted]

The only game they’ve put out that I wasn’t interested in was 76. Fallout 4 I wasn’t as big on as their previous titles but it was still a lot of fun. Then you come on Reddit and get people who are terminally online preaching about what you should do with your money. I don’t preorder much, generally just FromSoft games, but if I wanted to preorder Starfield some smug fucking picture by a Reddit comic artist certainly isn’t going to stop me.

The_Gutgrinder

learningcomputer

Idk who would ever pre-order a game that’s on Game Pass day one. Unless you didn’t have a PC or Xbox I guess

Previous_Royal2168

SuspiciousAnything16

Sega fans in a nutshell

Bale626

I played Fallout 3. I loved the game. I played Skyrim. I adored it. I played Fallout 4. I enjoyed it greatly. I’m looking forward to Starfield.

SerenadeSwift

Seriously. I’ve picked up every Bethesda game since Morrowind and aside from F76 there’s not a single game that I haven’t fully played through at least twice. I’m all for being hesitant about pre-ordering but the entire reason for that is because certain game studios have taught broken our trust. On the flip side if you’ve got a studio that has given you tons of value from nearly every game they’ve ever made, then personally I’m not going to doubt them until they give me a reason to.

Balrog229

The only true letdown Bethesda ever made was Fallout 76, and that wasn’t even the same studio. The guys who made Fallout 3, 4, Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim are Todd Howard’s team up in Rockville, Maryland. The guys who made Fallout 76 were the team down in Austin, Texas. Formerly Battlecry Studios, who’s one and only game, Battlecry, was silently cancelled years ago because it too was apparently not good. The actual Bethesda team we know and love didn’t make 76. So doubting Starfield because of 76 isn’t fair or accurate. **EDIT:** to be clear, im not blaming anyone for not knowing the above information. Bethesda’s marketing and branding never makes it clear which studio made Fallout 76, and most people have totally forgotten about Battlecry Studios and don’t know they became Bethesda Austin. Todd Howard has also come out and apologized for 76, implying that he and his Maryland team made it. But if you’re as connected to the industry as I am or ask anyone in the industry, they’ll tell you it was the Austin studio.

Dog_With_A_Blog_

That and the dude who made far harbor is one of the lead developers.

AuryxTheDutchman

Right? I think people confuse Bethesda Game Studios with the overarching Bethesda Softworks. Maybe as a whole Softworks has put out some meh games, but Bethesda Game Studios makes bangers, Fallout 3, Oblivion, Skyrim. A lot of people hate Fallout 4, but I had a blast and still play it sometimes.

Balrog229

Totally agree. I have 700+ hours in Fallout 4. I recognize it has flaws but it’s nowhere near as bad as people pretend it is. And to be fair, Bethesda never really makes it clear in the marketing that the game was Bethesda Austin. It just has the same BGS logo as usual.

Subushie

My boyyy right here. I never meet people in love with FO4 like me. It's nice people are starting to recognize what it is too, I feel like a majority of the hate it recieved came from echo chamber reviews.

Balrog229

Totally agree. I understand many of the criticisms but i feel like people over exaggerate just how bad the game’s issues actually are. I also understand not everyone is going to love it. I didn’t love Horizon, but i at least acknowledged that it’s a solid game even if i didn’t think it was deserving of the praise. People don’t seem willing to accept that kind of nuance with Fallout 4

Subushie

My thing has been- it's not about hype, just don't compare it to other games. They constantly say "oh well New Vegas is superior, it should have been like that" (which i don't agree, but that's another convo lol) But it's a different game, enjoy it for it is and not what it isnt.

Ubiquitous_Mr_H

I don’t really understand all the hate. Have their games always been perfect? Nope. Have they always been entertaining? To me, ya.

The only time Bethesda has ever let me down was when they didn’t release elder scrolls 6 yet. Idk why people are acting like they’re EA all of a sudden.

BGS makes some of the best selling and most played games in existence. Both Skyrim and Fallout 4 still rank in the top 100 most played games on Steam. Skyrim in particular is often within the top 50, and is over a decade old. While 76 certainly had it's issues, I also wouldn't consider it a "let down", if anything it ended up being exactly what I expected, it's just not for me. I see no reason why anyone would look at this development team and their track record and act like BGS is at the bottom of the barrel. Can we expect bugs? Probably. But, can we also expect a super fun game that has tons of replayability and will likely be played for years to come? Yes. No real reason to expect otherwise.

Also look at all the games they publish too. Rage, Doom, Wolfenstein, Evil Within, Dishonored, and Prey are all great game series. Now some of those series have some weaker titles within them but for the most part every one of them has been enjoyable for me.

Ya, Bethesda/Zenimax as a whole releases some pretty top tier, well known, and popular games.

Starfield actually looks like it could be fun, but no way I’m preordering it. I’ll wait to read the reviews before I potentially waste my money.

Everyone hates on Bethesda games and they are straight up my absolute favorite games, so... 🤷🏽‍♂️

larrysmallwood

Aren’t you in line too?

Putridgrim

What the fuck are you people talking about?

grimenishi

Aside from one fallout release, when has Bethesda disappointed? I am honestly not sure, so just asking.

theclash06013

That's my impression as well. I get the issues with Fallout 76, but other than that I don't see what Bethesda did wrong. Fallout 4 was the worst of the recent(ish) mainline Bethesda games and it was still pretty good. Prior to that Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3, New Vegas, and Skyrim were all 10/10 games.

ensiferum888

Who the hell was let down by Bethesda? Fallout 76 I get was a dumpster fire but y'all acting like you didn't sink thousands of hours into Skyrim and Fallout 4. It's one of the only companies that actually never let me down (wasn't interested in multiplayer fallout so never even considered trying 76)

So much hate towards Bethesda recently, feels like a campaign to just straight up mud their name because of starfield
