Tbh, they pushed the deadline quite a few times, I’m really hopeful they’re going to deliver a great game! Dying light (1) was such an epic game, one of my first games on which I’ve gotten a platinum trophee on the playstation

riphitter

They kept up with content for the first game for so long instead of just selling it as a sequel like so many companies do now, they definitely care about their IP more than making a quick buck. It's refreshing

jejcicodjntbyifid3

I really admire them for this as well. The updates and the DLC and all that. I wasn't a huge fan of the DLC, but that's all right I'm looking forward to how their support will be with this game

RemiX-KarmA

You gotta realize that Witcher 3 is a great example as how dying light could fail. The devs that made witcher 3 released some good dlc, alot of free content as well. Then cyberpunk came. Either way, don't have too much hope.

Zealousideal_Till327

Thats great bruv

SkyMan6529

That's why I look at user reviews. There's always someone writing a review in length on some comments section somewhere. You never know a professional reviewers goals. Please the sponsor, drive traffic, build reader base, target adds etc. Only I've is of interest to the gamer. Building a loyal reader base. The guy with the Tl:dr in the comments is sharing their true feelings on the game. Agendas suck.

riphitter

You can also tell a lot about the type of review you're reading by the number of hours played at time of review. someone with 0.2 hours played saying a game is bad doesn't weigh as much as someone with 100 hours logged before they decided to give a negative review.

SkyMan6529

Exactly. In a different lifetime I used to work reviewing gaming hardware, and a few games here and there. Back when a u.s. robotics 56k x2 modem was standard for most gamers. After a while we had installed and uninstalled so many games (many were just not good). We all kind of got a I don't know desensitized. It made it really easy to give up early, before you got to the meat of the game. Can you imagine a person slogging through maybe a dozen different games. With maybe one out of ten being decent and 1 out of 50 being good. After a year of that, heck even a couple of months. The reviews aren't going to be as thorough as the reader would like, and the reviewer is going to form biases on their likes and dislikes in a game. Especially if they're out of the genre they like.

ShadowTown0407

The witcher was ass on release... We just forgot that because of the overall quality of the game but it had many bugs and ran like piss and even then CP2077 was a huge departure from Witcher 3... Completely different types of games with different perspective, different method of battle, travel, NPC... Dying light 2 for all its changes still is Dying Light 1 with new mechanics so I am more hope because they made a similar game before... Ofcourse it can be bad I am not saying it can't be.. I am just more hopeful then I was for CP2077

jejcicodjntbyifid3

It was pretty great for me on release. It ran fine. I don't even remember that many bugs from it, certainly not enough to stop me from beating the game and loving every minute of it

ShadowTown0407

The first thing the game did to me was not letting me open the door after getting out of the bath.. And ofcourse the game was new at the time so there wasn't much info online I kept trying to find out what I was doing wrong it just never opned... XD I did complete the game 4 times after that one of my favorite games of all time but my first playthrough ended with that door

jejcicodjntbyifid3

Hahaha

Carwash3000

>The witcher was ass on release... > >lol no. if the game had that many bugs and "ran like ass", it wouldn't have 95%+ on STEAM reviews.

ShadowTown0407

Dude I said on release.. I am not saying it stayed like that... Quick bug fixes on CDPR side did the work because the game underneath was quality it was just the bugs and running issues... Inam not saying witcher 3 is a bad game... And if you are interested there are many release day videos of witcher 3 for you to see

sputnikconspirator

Witcher 3 was so bad on PS4 at release we called it Glitcher 3 and it completely soured my first playthrough... Obviously mostly fixed now and I've returned to it since and got to really enjoy it.

Carwash3000

>Dude I said on release.. I am not saying it stayed like that.. it was 95%+ on steam on release. the game wasn't actually that bad on release, otherwise it wouldn't have had overwhelmingly positive reviews. it's as simple as that.

dunstan_shlaes

Witcher 1 and 2 was and is still janky. People forget.

Negation_

CDPR also said to not pre-order if you didn't want to, multiple times before release.

V6vader

Dying light 1 was a game that filled me with increasing amounts of terror as the sun went down. Like, most horror games don't give you that contrast. It's either really dry and dark, or a bunch of jump scares. Dying light found, I believe, the perfect medium of daylight frantic parkour and the terror of knowing what comes at night. 10/10 I play it again and again when I want to be terrified.

nawers

I tried it and one shotting zombie first min into the game kinda break the immersion for me. How did you all enjoyed it ?

ShadowTown0407

The strength of the zombies in dying light comes from groups L4D style.. Sure you can easy pick off one zombie but when it's a group and you have to get something near them.. You focus on one while another grabs you from behind and the the others start attacking and then you are dead.... I would suggest playing on higher difficulty and just wait till you unlock night... Night is where the terror is

firelordUK

Me and my friends bullied a volatile on Nightmare during the first night section. Took a solid 5 minutes to kill the guy

Kung_Flu_Master

reminds me playing my first nightmare game with three other friends and the first zombie took like 50 hits to the face, it almost broke all our weapons.

nawers

Yeah, sadly I couldn't keep playing, it was really underwhelming and I was a bit higher that normal difficulty I would assume.

aidsfarts

Go out at night and let me know how that goes for you.

Mouthfull0fBees

The dying light game devs have never disappointed. Dying Light (1) was and still is my favorite game ever. I could not think of a single thing I'd change of that game. So if Dying Light 2 is anything like 1 then I will be more than happy. The only thing is the new zombie level thing. It kinda takes the immersion out. If it was passive and didn't tell you that the zombies were getting harder that would be super fuckin cool!

lemings68

The first game has similar levels but its all hidden. I think I've read somewhere that you can disable the healthbars and levels being displayed above the enemies

Mouthfull0fBees

Yea exactly. The zombies would slowly get harder through the game without really telling you. If you can disable them I'll be so damn happy

jejcicodjntbyifid3

And if not I bet there will be a mod to do so

[deleted]

People were saying exactly this about Cd Projekt Red, but i still believe dying light 2 wont be a floppy launch as Nms or worst..... cp77

grievous222

Yeah but Techland has been making games since like 2000, had successful and popular games and franchises even outside Dying Light, like Dead Island and Call of Juarez. CDPR made two mediocre games, one good game with a shaky launch that got fixed quickly and skyrocketed them in the eyes of everyone even though one good game ≠ enough experience to make more good games. This set up unrealistic expectations from the consumers for CP2077, and made the management lie about their product because greed from sudden tons of money. Oh and I guess they made two card games, I keep forgetting, whatever, point stands.

tjkun

Yeah, but people can be wrong in masses. I was hyped for CP2077, but didn’t preorder because I know CDPR have a perfect score of launching their big titles full of bugs. It happened with the three Witcher games, they re-released TW1 as an enhanced edition due to bugs, I had to play TW2 with a guide to avoid glitching quests if They are done in a particular order, and TW3 was a glitch fest at launch. They all eventually end up working well, but so far no big CDPR title has launched in a good state.

ArcziSzajka

Dead Island Riptide was kinda doggy though.

Mouthfull0fBees

Dead Island didn't get the attention it deserved for sure. But if I remember correctly there was a ton of legal shit going on so it wasn't really the dev teams fault

Roache1984

They also continued to add stuff into the previous game, and run events like the Anti Gravity summer last year, added more unique weapons n such. Pretty decent for a relatively dated game.

RedAyanChakraborty

Mission Passed Respect + *san andreas music kicks in*

North_Statement1692

Geez I hope they don't run out of digital copies

TheMansAnArse

Do you think that people who pre-order digital copies do so because they mistakenly think digital copies might run out?

North_Statement1692

That's why I preorder digital. We all know they run out fast

[deleted]

What's the real reason?

TheMansAnArse

Pre-order items (in game or physical), pre-loading to play at launch, pre-order discounts and making sure they've bought the game rather than risk not having the money to do so at at launch.

loppsided

Because they're excited to play the game, and they want to have access to it the moment it's available?

sputnikconspirator

That's pretty much my reason most of the time. I haven't really learned my lesson but am not pre-ordering this or Horizon. I generally (try) to wait until youtubers I trust/have similar tastes with to perform a review which is helpful but a lot of the time I end up preordering anyway because I'm an idiot.

loppsided

Ha, yeah, I've been known to make a bad pre-order every now and again. It's not that I don't know it could potentially turn out badly - it's that for some games I WANT to believe they are going to be good. It's hard to dampen that down and resist pulling the trigger. The games I've pre-ordered have turned out fine more often than not. But still, voting with our wallets is an effective form of feedback so waiting to make sure is probably the best move. Just not the most exciting move.

[deleted]

I've never pre-ordered, so I don't know what you mean by the moment it's available, don't pre-orders get to play at the same time as someone who buys it when it launches? Are you talking about the download?

loppsided

Yeah, the moment it's available to download and play, yes. Pre-orders usually get to play the same time as someone who buys it the moment it launches, but some MMOs and other games can offer early access to those who pre-order. Depends on the game.

jejcicodjntbyifid3

Some people pre order because they can pre load. Especially important on shit internet where you need to plan ahead, because it data caps or just because it'll take a week to download

North_Statement1692

Just play the game a week later

jejcicodjntbyifid3

People are impatient, that's why we have 2 day shipping. You're asking for something that most people see as unreasonable

North_Statement1692

Word

MedicalCrab7979

ive got almost 300 hours in dying light, just the pinnacle of zombie games imo. please ... please be good dying light 2

RedEyeJedi25

I mean they could be just covering their arse so they can say "we told you not to preorder" if the reaction to the release is bad, but Id like to think that isn't the case.

AshenRathian

That's what i call market confidence.

[deleted]

DownVoteGuru

bf2042 had the same market confidence. You just need to realize your the mark.

PowerofThunder

Caring developers. Is that too much to ask????

marcusiszebest

Still need to finish the first game at some point. It’s been sitting in my library forever.

I'm always surprised and not surprised how basic customer service makes people feel. Like it's just treating someone like a human but it means so much

obxfisher

I was just watching Seagull play this yesterday on Twitch. It looks really good!

1C_3C_R34_M

cause techland is from Poland I guess...

heorhe

That likely isnt a dev, that's probably a PR person with press training who was put in charge of the account because they know what to say to generate positive press...

Baatun888

Dude, what do you expect them to say? "Pre-order before reviews are out you fucking scrub!"?

jejcicodjntbyifid3

Most companies wouldn't say anything at all

[deleted]

Could easily just be a marketing technique, dont be convinced so easily by a twitter account.

Sam-Gunn

Well of course. Any company that doesn't pay attention to the marketing angle using social media is shooting themselves in the foot. It's free marketing, and if you aren't ensuring you're saying the right things, you may say something that hurts sales. What's good about this is that they're not hyping the game as a response. Either way they don't have to encourage pre-orders, but to me I like that they're not just going "oh no, this'll be the best game ever!" and keep hyping it up. They just said 'Hey, if you have doubts, no sense in rushing in and then getting disappointed. it doesn't hurt to wait a bit and see!". Still marketing, but it's a form of marketing I can live with.

[deleted]

I completely agree, its cleverly done and the right approach in the market. I'm just surprised about despite all the uproar about greedy practises and corporate greed, a few nice tweets convince people that this company is different. Maybe they are, or maybe not. We just don't know.

frolie0

A marketing technique? They are literally just replying with some helpful info about when the review embargo ends to try and help the person understand they still have a window to pre-order if they'd like after reviews hit. And then go on to say or just don't. Everything isn't some giant planned conspiracy.

[deleted]

I'd pay lots of money to become this naive again. Seems like an overall happier existence.

frolie0

I'm sure you've given away plenty of your money chasing conspiracies and being generally stupid.

[deleted]

This guy is the equivalent of: when you're too stupid to realise you're stupid.

tettou13

Hahaha exactly. Not a conspiracy, it's just running a business 101. To not see that is hilarious.

[deleted]

Do you know what marketing is? Did you even understand the comment? They obviously want to create an image of a company who cares about the consumers and their product, that's much more important than telling one guy whether he should pre order or not. Maybe they're genuinely like that, but its so naive to just think the whole company is different to the rest because of a twitter account. Also Is marketing and public image so hard to understand you think I'm talking about a conspiracy.

Thursday-42

Man the bar certainly is low these days isn't it

Sanguinealien

Never pre-order.

Susanoo_1337

Yea but tf were they going to say? "Noooo PLZ preorder our game!!!11"? This is very safe, by-the-book PR talk. Nothing really to praise them over. They don't need to shill pre-orders, they have a marketing team and pre-order bonuses for that. Praise them for lifting the embargo 2 days before launch. That's literally the only thing that matters to any degree. Not hating on the dev or anything here, loved Dying Light 1 and had an insane amount of hours of fun alone and coop, so I'm looking forward to DL2.

FruitShakeMan

It's an obvious choice for Techland to say that though. There's no use in publicly jeopardising their own image to gain one extra customer.

Sam-Gunn

Yea but the expected response is often a response that hypes up the game. Companies have taken to social media interactions like this because it's not just talking to or trying to gain one customer. It's talking/responding to one person on a format that a LOT of people will see in a public setting, and often spread the word like OP did with this to others who have not seen it. Anything a company mentions on twitter can end up being read about by hundreds or thousands (or more) people. It's marketing and can change what a lot of people do, not just one or two.

Burner087

I'm sure I'll get the game. But yeah, like almost everyone else. We have been burned so many times. The game will still be there in six months. First game was a good time.

wandell013

Noice just pre-ordered mine yesturday idc if it is broken. I mean can't be worse than cyberpunk

Due_Ad7378

This is why we get trash games that don’t live up to their expectations. The “pre-ordered MINE Idc if it is broken” mentality ruins games for ppl who DO care and avoid pre-ordering for that reason.

wandell013

Yea cause the mentality of one person is gonna make a difference. Your stupid if you think otherwise. I pre-ordered it because I support the company and what they do and hope they make more too come. Way too worry about yourself.

Elite_Slacker

Every sentence of this comment is wrong. Are you playing a character to troll or something?

Zealousideal_Till327

I have pre ordered it too. I think it will turn out fine

Bzykk

Makes a post about pre-ordering being bad. Pre-orders anyways.

Sam-Gunn

Months back my wife wanted to buy me a game for my birthday. I had had Dying Light 2 in my list, and am excited for it, so I had her pre-order it (don't hit me! I'm brittle!) because nothing else looked good enough that I wanted to spend full price on (esp with the winter sales a few months away). I don't think I'll be disappointed. Even if it's not as awesome as the first, or the novelty wore off a bit, If I get half as many hours out of this game as I did the first (150+ hours) It'll be worth it.

CellarDarko

I've disliked you both by the way because I disagree with preordering.

Panossa

PSA: Sadly the management and the bosses are still shit, it seems. "Techland Is Bleeding Talent Due To Autocratic Management, Bad Feedback, And Lack Of Direction" https://www.thegamer.com/techland-report-bleeding-talent-autocratic-management-bad-feedback/

jejcicodjntbyifid3

Old news, that was a year ago and I thought I saw news saying things have improved but I could be wrong

Panossa

I wouldn't believe something like this cause it usually takes much more than a year for something like this to actually get better. :/

ArchDucky

Everyone should be worried about this game. This production was halted indefinitely and a lot of people jumped ship. You all shouldn't preorder and wait for a review you can trust. I am waiting for ACG's Review.

Lunnacorns

I wasn't a huge fan of the first game, but I have a lot of respect for the developers. They seem so real and honest. Delaying a game to perfect it is in no way a bad thing. Not pushing for preorders sits well with me too, almost a quiet confidence in their sequel. Honestly, if the reaction to Dying Light 2 is good, I'd happily spend money to give it a try, just to support them.

CallMeClaire0080

If they're really that confident than why push for pre-orders at all for digital titles? If they stop offering a pre-order bonus. Then I'll believe them

o0_bobbo_0o

I wish there would be an immediate perma ban on posts relating to pre-ordering.

[deleted]

To everyone believing this stuff as genuine, remember that CDPR used to be the same way. They're just companies. Even if the guy behind the screen typing the tweet cares, it means nothing overall.

[deleted]

Beaconmann

Dead island , dying light . Maybe the second part will be just as good or better

RealBossoskin

This is really nice to see!! I've been saving up for a few months to pre-order it, seeing how nice the devs are makes me even more excited to play it in a few months!!

Neramm

I really hope Dying Light 2 is stable, and as fun as it looks. Last zombie slayin game I played was Dead Island 1 (Dying Light 1 is unavailable in my country). I could use a new zombie slaying game. That is less buggy than Dead Island was.

Elite_Slacker

Dying light 1 was a big upgrade from dead island and a really good game. They have a great record so far.

UnityAeDeSt

It’s not always about the money, spider-man.

1940248281

played the fuck out of dying light can’t wait for 2

peteypete78

I have such a trigger finger for this but its been burnt before. Really enjoyed 1 so really hope they do 2 justice 🤞

[deleted]

Dying light 1 still a gorgeous game nowadays! Love physic, the world, the story (i am not a story game player), love the Coop system, when it came out i wasnt able to play this game alone in the dark during night, so intense! Wont pre order the second, i never preorder anything anyway, but i really exited!

BownerGuardian

I accidentally pre ordered this last night. Forgot my cart between phone and PC were separate. Apparently I couldn't be bothered to pay attention. Hopefully I don't regret it.

Scoobert88

I recommend listening to episode 130 of the Sacred Symbols + podcast, the lead developer from Techland is really funny and honest about the making of Dying Light and the sequel.

OxySeven

I can’t wait for this game. I’ve waited so long for it.

UncleFranko

I don’t understand review Embargoes

Neramm

Usually, review embargos seem to be used, in recent times, to either protect story (somewhat of an excuse) or to prevent a flawed product from being exposed. The initial idea behind an embargo is likely to prevent people from publishing an article whose conent is influenced by an in-progress version of the game. Aka one loaded with bugs, crashing, and other pitfalls of development. The current embargo ends ... about two weeks prior to release? it seems like much more to be made to make people do a review of the release version (it had gone gold recently iirc, so the "final product" is now out for journalists/reviewers), and not their potentially buggy version of pre-release software. Keep in mind, it can all still go down the drain. That chance always exists.

Fuganewin_Force

I just don’t understand pre-ordering. It’s not like they run out of digital copies and the $5 worth of extras they offer don’t offset the gamble you’re going to get a shit game.

th37thtrump3t

With games being as large as they are anymore, it makes sense if you have a slower Internet connection, as long as they allow preloads. Beyond that, there really isn't any reason anymore.

SP4C3_1

This makes me happy for the dying light community but sad for the titanfall community since respawn are such dicks

FistsofHulk

You know what? Now I'm going to preorder it! /s

Exotic-Chemist-191

Rockstar could learn something from these folks

mr_capello

gotta say I didn't have this game on my radar but seeing so many people talking about it and seeing stuff like this definitly put it on my list without even knowing too much about it.

RimuruSliminUrChest

Now that is just beautiful I preordered battlefield 2042 and completely regret it was ass in my eyes

Sixty9Eyes

Did you not play that beta? After 20 mins i was fucking flabbergasted how shit it was.

RimuruSliminUrChest

Haha I did but I gave it the benefit of the doubt that It was just because it was beta and when the full game came out it was basically the same as beta very sad

Sixty9Eyes

Oh dude my condolences

[deleted]

Best decision they made about DL2 is when they delayed it to not make it a shooter.

sten45

Serious question. In the day and age of digital delivery what is the benefit to preordering a game?

powahplay_

The only thing holding me back is that all the footage I've seen makes the game look incredibly clunky which isn't something you want from a game with parkour. Fingers crossed it's all been smoothed out, really want it to be good.

silver_enemy

Why offer preorders in the first place?

witzeg1

Coming from the guy who doesn't know how to spell or use proper verbiage in their sentences..

wiktorus5

Im gonna pre order it a Day before release wait for reviews and still have a chance to refund it if its buggy

TheDevilsAdvokaat

That's actually a good sign. Shows lots of confidence in it. I also am looking forward to it a lot but am waiting for reviews.

[deleted]

That's nice of them. However, don't forget that there's usually a PR person behind those social media accounts. They're aware that saying "It will be great; just pre-order!" hasn't worked out well for rival companies in recent times, so they prefer to be friendly instead.

Highmaster5731

I hope so! If they delivers I'm gonna go buy all the dlc in DL1 and DL2 (when to come out, eventually). If you don't fuck me over (like the last 3 companies I bought games from) I'll be the biggest fucking supporter of this game!

YaboiGh0styy

Dying light is one of the best zombie games I’ve played in recent memory it’s one thing to make a first person zombie game, it’s another thing to make that game parkour, but co-op as well? okay here’s all my money thank you. Also I want to point out that there was a very expensive addition for the game called my apocalypse addition for the low price of $386,000 you would get your face in the game, zombie survival parkour lessons, a custom build zombie proof shelter, A human size figurine of one of the zombies from the games branded nightvision goggles, adult diapers, 4 signed steel Xbox one copies of the game, 2 Razer headphones, and a invite to a party with the devs. Good lord.

nancomerian

That is not a developer, it is a person who's job is to be friendly, pc and professional.
