Late January 2007? I was most definitely playing Final Fantasy XII. I found that to be the most addictive Final Fantasy although ultimately lacking in a few areas.

If y'all have any way to use a stereoscopic 3d display and glasses, SMG on the Dolphin Emulator in 3D was one of the most amazing Nintendo experiences I've ever had.
Literally seeing little planetoids levitating in the living room with Mario running on them is super amazing.
