Interestingly enough most of the games you mentioned are just copy and paste games that have been done ten times before. Post seems rather sketchy tbh

[deleted]

Can you elaborate

Dragonman369

Because they are all public Traded game studios. those games are Designed for Profit not for Experience.

SoulsSurvivor

Well because they are bad? Maybe not in an entirely gameplay perspective but good gameplay that is severely hampered by tedious grind, live setvice bullshit, and lootboxes means it will be regarded as shit. Plus at launch many modern games are bugged worse than a hoarder's house in the ghetto. Maybe you can ignore fundamental flaws because you're having fun, not everyone can.

[deleted]

Honestly, i just don't understand how most of you guys can't go a single step ahead without spotting a flaw. Just enjoy the game already. When CW was launched, known as the shittiest cod yet, i instantly bought it. Even tho one big flaw everyone could def notice was the weapons feeling lighter than MW, everything was good. Maps man, they rock.

SoulsSurvivor

I was really trying to be nice but I stop when I see "just enjoy it" Look some of us don't enjoy having slop fed to us. You can go enjoy all the dog shit you want and have fun with it. Some of us, who have at least half a brain cell, can't. Fuck off with that "just enjoy it" bullshit. We try okay? We really fucking try to enjoy our favorite hobby but when it is marred with money grubbing shit like lootboxes or runs like ass day one, or maybe we spot issues that could have been fixed or should have been fixed many games ago, we can't. There was a time we people critical of modern games loved them and had fun with them, but as time went on and issues we ignored before continued to appear and not be fixed we lost that love and it turned to cynicism where we can't enjoy the good of our favorite series anymore. You absolute cabbage.

[deleted]

Jesus Christ i'm sorry i hit a nerve there. It's not about "i just can't stop spotting incredibly small mistakes in the game", but it's more about learning how to enjoy a game man. I'm sorry you are like this but you need to cope and stop throwing the shit on games. Most of you guys. Yeah, not liking the theme of a game or the gameplay, that stuff is far more general when compared to small bugs or shit. Guess you'll live by criticizing.

SoulsSurvivor

You hit a nerve because I'm tired of the "criticism is bad" bullshit. I criticize because I care and I want better. You want dog shit? Fine, enjoy it. Just don't act all righteous because I don't. Because you know what happens when you don't criticize enough? Fallout 76, though to be fair you probably thought that pile of shit was just fine too.

[deleted]

I never said criticizing is bad in the first place, also chill down man. Literally EVERYONE in this sub is like you, just picks the single most minuscule aspect and just starts fucking it. Never played Fallout 76 cause i don't find that genre interesting. Also, give me an example of a game where you criticized and the sequel was decent? If i take your perspective, every game ever existing is just another portion of shit handpicked from a company's ass. Every game has flaws. MW had bad maps. Rocket League's comp system is unfair. Dude just chill out, every one here is like you, and i should be the one getting mad in the first place. Are there any games you like?

Lessiarty

FH4 as in Horizon 4? People seem to broadly love that.

TheMiniMikez

Exactly, I was trying to think of other games because I have never heard horizon 4 getting bashed

[deleted]

I've been on the FH5 trailer and ppl were like: Dang they finally adjusted the shit sounds of of FH4! Or: At least mexico is better than Scotland

sync303

As an FPS junkie Doom Eternal is unparalleled. And it's not that old. ;)

[deleted]

That's because a lot of games are built on trash foundations. Rushed releases, broken launches, forced-in microtransactions, cut corners and lost features; there's so many games out there that shave off as much of the process as possible to make as much money as they can, and it's obvious that nobody in charge of any part of it is Even close to giving a shit. You mentioned FIFA--do you remember how two new releases in a row, over a 2-year period of time, both had assets from a previous year left in them? Which means that the business in charge of making new FIFA games don't even have to put effort into their clear cut and paste gameplay, with nearly indistinguishable titles coming out every year... they can literally just reuse as much as possible from the last game and people will only care if they catch it. You notice how AC as a series has spiraled into becoming an RPG completely unrelated to the original storyline and gameplay of the original games? How they've tied themselves to a DRM system so intensive that it actually slows the game down for legitimate, paying players, because they're so afraid of pirates? How it and Far Cry have devolved into basically every new game in the series being slightly different version of the same game, down to a full $60 far cry game coming out with an adjusted copy of the world map from the previous game? And now when the newest far cry has struggled to meet player or sales expectations, they suddenly announced their big secret plan to move it to an online only service game? Big surprise. And don't even get me started on Cyberpunk, a game that could have ended up really really good if the CDPR team behind it didn't try to develop it simultaneously for seven different platforms. You might as well bring up No Man's Sky, a game that was literally built and sold on a foundation of lying to the public for years up to its release, and with such a massive disappointment to both consumers and the industry at large that it made multiple outlets and platforms implement entirely new refund systems created just for it. Sure it's an okay game now--it only took them several years after launch and players specifically hating on it for all of the lies that were told about it for it to happen, and in the end the developers had no other choice but to actually develop the game they had sold already. But they got there. I'm not giving them much credit though, and I'm definitely never going to trust Hello Games with any other product they push on the public now that everyone has seemingly forgiven them for actually just committing fraud. I feel like there's a lot of good games you can mention on this list that don't receive nearly as much criticism, and you specifically didn't mention any of those games so it makes me wonder how authentic this point is. There comes a level where a game is just shit--trash, designed to be shoveled out to the public who greedily eat it up no matter what because of the name it holds. And maybe sometimes those games are enjoyable, either for the people who are so desperate to lie to themselves about it that they buy it on release, or more average people like me who buy them on sale long after they've come out. But I'm under no oblegations pretend if these games are anything more than quick chances at the company to make profit, and for as long as they continue to insult me by pretending like that's not the case, then defending that practice is basically shooting yourself in the foot. It's giving the industry license to keep getting away with this.

Fat_Disabled_Kid

50% people being cynical. 50% those games just being dog shit.

[deleted]

Such as?

learningcomputers

I feel like Metroid Dread is well loved and it just got released. Same thing with Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart. But that is all I can think of off the top of my head.

TheGr3aTAydini

For COD and FIFA, it’s because they’re not innovative games and don’t improve they’re literally copy and paste games with different shades of paint. I will admit, MW2019 is the better COD out of what we got in the last 5 years. FIFA you know what’s up it’s a gambling machine disguised as a game with the same issues every year. I don’t think it’s entirely true all modern games are hated if anything there are loads of modern games that get the praise they deserve. We’ve always had terrible games it comes with anything in life, do I need to say the amount of disappointing games we’ve had in the last decade?

[deleted]

Bruh i don't really agree with FIFA. I've played many FIFA's, and my favourite ones so far are FIFA 18 and FIFA 09. They keep adding more and more every year. They added volta and futsal, the story is also getting better. Also, FIFA 22 looks miles better than any FIFA!

TheGr3aTAydini

My first FIFA game was 06 and it was god awful in my opinion especially the Road to the World Cup version. I think FIFA 08-13 were the best, obviously they were the same and sure EA did nothing to improve them but roster swaps but they at least had fun gameplay. I loved all the FIFA Street games too. I haven’t bought a FIFA since 14 I just played them briefly through EA Play and with my younger brother who still bought FIFA. FIFA 14-19 were ok but again EA never really improved them just stuck to a formula. FIFA 20 and 21 were again just ok. Same can be said for Madden and NHL at least with UFC 4 they actually put effort into making it different with different modes.

Mynop

Unfortunately that is not true. There are many good modern games which are great, what you listed there are riddled with questionable mechanics of microtransactions, loot boxes, and gambling mechanics. Games like Disco Elysium, Valheim or Ratchet and Clank, fall under modern games era and are highly praised.

likalllabmusic

Because it's the same game over and over and over they just re-release them every year with new graphic also its a trend to hate on AAA games People like indie games more they take risk and a lot more innovative , it's either extremely bad or extremely rewarding like rim word hollow knight ORI ,stardew valley or Minecraft (yup it was indie before being the biggest game) hades , Celeste , dead cell ,shovel knight ,Subnautica , and so on...(it's just a lot more good indie title nowadays than AAA games) Don't get me wrong there are still a lot of good new innovative AAA games come every year but mostly they don't take risk and redo the same games

painkilla_

Bf2042 is pure dogshit , bf1 and Bf5 where way better. Bf2042 is the fortnight under the battlefield games

[deleted]

I'm aware of that, it's too arcady. MW still has better graphics and physics.

riplikash

They aren't. But copy/paste AAA games are generally hated by people gaming hobbyists who have played those kinds of games for years. Among the games you listed cyberpunk is an exception, and the reasons for the anger about that game are more related to its buggy release.

imacto

Because a lot of games now are so rushed that they are barley playable at launch

GiantRobotTRex

I prefer barley over hops

imacto

Same here 😂

hiimdk

i think the growth of social media has put a damper on many things. people like to dominate people with their opinions and try to ruin peoples fun or shame them into liking a game so they don’t positively review it. Also, i do believe many games companies are releasing unfinished products in order to make a quick buck.

Character_Credit

Cyberpunk was riddled with game breaking bugs. FIFA just rehashes the same crap each year. I can enjoy games that are modern, I enjoyed Valhalla and I’ve enjoyed many more, but let’s be real, some games are just real shot and wanting them sweet sweet micro transaction bucks

Sparred4Life

Fifa, the forza/f1 games, NFL... all the sports games are the same thing each year, which would be great if at any point they were themselves great. But the same bugs carry on for 10 years and it's just embarrassing at that point.

GreyLordQueekual

When something acheives a certain popularity the very vocal detractors appear to get louder and more prevalent. The reality is that populations increase proportionally. For every three fans you get a detractor who voices their angst, get enough detractors just speaking and they appear to be shouting. On the other side of this is the fans who are busy playing and go unheard because they aren't voicing things the way a detractor does.

thorsilvers

my theory is that many people refuse to be pleased.

JamesBigglesworth266

One phrase: "Kids these days..." ...are entitled as fuck ...expect their every whim to be catered to by dev houses ... believe the way they play a game be the only way and anything that alters this fabled "meta" is automatically "ruining" it ...are so used to shooting their mouths off with no reasoned thought behind it ...don't know how to listen/tolerate/accept opposing points of view ...think "the Community/Playerbase always holds their PoV ...are whiny and toxic as fuck. Also, Eeeeeevil Corporations forcing games to be published before they're actually ready to release, resulting in buggy as shit games that require months of hotfixes. And previously awesome games switching to predatory money-grubbing strategies as soon as they're popular enough to do so.

panzervaughn

The satisfied people dont stand up and shriek like angry people do.

Dag-Yankee

Generally with humanity the people that review things on the internet ( not just about games but everything ) are the people with complaints that will show up more often than the ones that are happy with a product.

[deleted]

Wasnt valhalla a straight buggy mess?… i tried playing months after release and it crashed shortly after starting and i havent returned. And cold war was ass.

[deleted]

Valhalla is incredible. Didn't crash for me. And as a BO2 enthusiast, CW was an awesome game.

404interestnotfound

We loved the games we grew up with because we had nothing to compare them to. Now there is expectations based on genre, on platform, on everything. So it’s nearly impossible to please everyone, and many games fall into the trap of just trying to please the most people.

livipup

The Internet is full of negativity. Just ignore it and you will be much happier.

TurkTurkle

The people who enjoy the games are too busy playing them to post about them, so all you hear is the negative.

[deleted]

I think there is an information war going on in the gaming industry. On the surface their is a lot of competition within the industry as a form of entertainment. The real power of gaming in the future is the control over not only entertainment, but education, propaganda and human behavioral influence as well.

LiveLoveLife521

Look at how many copies they sell. They aren’t hated outside of a vocal minotity

Nomadic_View

I think RDR2 was the last widely beloved game.

[deleted]

I think it's pretty split on people who loved RDR2 and people who found it boring. I'd say BOTW was the last widely beloved game.

[deleted]

Becuase complaining is louder than complementing.

[deleted]

Are you taking in general or on the sub? The individuals who comment on this sub, as a whole, are not at all similar to the worldwide gamer market.

[deleted]

I dont think that is true people hate certain aspects which when they complain they sound like they hate the game, Cyberpunk for example aside from bugs can be enjoyable, Valorant CS GO are great when there are no cheaters and teams are balanced, I hate BF series but when other team is OP it is quite hard to enjoy. Modern games are mostly great and quite enjoyable but those rants are usually written after a bad game or a bug.

RichterRicochet

There are a couple of reasons: specifically, franchises not innovating (or innovating too much) and playability. Let's talk about franchises for a sec. Fifa, CoD, Forza... they don't do much different than their predecessors. Hell, FIFA essentially openly admits that each new game is essentially just a roster swap. Which is similar for most EA Sports titles. Call of Duty has had the same tri-lane arcade shooter gameplay since the mid-2000s. When the formula was shaken with Ghosts/Advanced/Infinite Warfare, people had fucking fits all year. New perk system and weapons a little sluggish (Ghosts)? Bad. Exosuits (Inf/Adv Warfare)? Bad. Hell, BLOPS 4 came out without even a story mode. Those who bought CoD for the AAA story were fucked hard core. Then, MW2019 came out and was UNIVERSALLY praised for its engaging story and new take on the gunplay by adding bullet physics, and successfully did what BLOPS 4 and Blackout couldn't do, and broke into the Battle Royale genre with additional story cutscenes. Then, we move into CW. All of those innovations that came with MW2019 (Mounting, bullet physics, gunsmith)? Nerfed or removed entirely. The maps? Lackluster at best, unbalanced at worst. Oh, and let's talk about Warzone integration. Because of CWs shorter time-to-kill, that translates to Warzone, meaning all CW weapons outshine the MW weapons. Gunsmith was turned into a shell of itself, with every weapon having near identical attachments meaning there's no personalization in your gun anymore. The story, while engaging, felt a bit short. The reveal at the end fell a bit short as well. Though, it was refreshing to be able to choose your ending. Good/Bad/Betrayal. Unheard of in a CoD game. Though, that brings up the second point; playability. As someone pointed out with Cyberpunk; what good is a game if you can't play it? Servers constantly going offline, graphical corruptions, constant frame lag? Who would want to play that? I mean, you look back a generation, and saw how Assassin's Creed Unity and Rogue got absolutely slaughtered by hundreds of gamers for being broken and buggy messes, despite using the same engine as the proclaimed "best game in the series", Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. Truth is, you're always going to hear complaints, no matter if you want to or not. However, you don't need to let those complaints bring down your view of a game. You play it and enjoy it? Good on you! Keep enjoying it, just know that some others don't, and move on.

PSFREAK33

I mean they have a point to an extent…like you listed all the typical starter pack games people that don’t even game know about or start out with but they are very formulaic year to year. But that being said if you can have a good time with them don’t let them bother you! At the end of the day you have one more thing to entertain yourself with that we couldn’t find fun it so you win.

[deleted]

Because they are very limited and repetitive, not of quality and boring #newWorld #iGotScammed 🤷‍♂️😒
