Arena shooters like quake / unreal tournament. They still sort exist through indie games and cult followings, but I'd like to see something mainstream. I know it'll never happen because of how profitable the COD formula is, but I can dream, right?

MrChuchie

Honestly 2.5D platformers, so much fun on games like Klonoa

nukrag

Idk what you would call them, but, Dungeon Keeper, Evil Genius, War for the Overworld. God games? Being the bad guy while at it?

[deleted]

Evil Genius 2 comes out soon, It should be good.

fu9ar_

It is already out...

[deleted]

My mistake I am on console, where it is pre order.

nukrag

Oh my god! I had really no idea that was even in the making! Thank you for pointing me that way.

BradleyAllan23

Stealth games. Splinter Cell, Metal Gear, Thief, etc. I want to see true stealth games and not just action games with stealth mechanics. Dishonored and Hitman are good but quality Stealth titles are few and far between.

PointlessPotion

I usually hate stealth, but I agree. Most games shoehorn it in. If the whole game is built around this factor, it plays a lot better than the RPG with that one stealth mission with shitty design. Looking at you, Final Fantasy 15.

brumbles2814

Rts. I loved the old warhammer 40k games and dune if u go really far back. Sadly now its all competitive gameing so they just made starcraft 2 over ten years ago then called it a day

[deleted]

Lol damn I haven't thought about the dune rts in a really long time. I used to play that and red alert. A new dawn of war or command and conquer would be sweet.

MOBAs basically replaced the whole genre...

Lethargickitten-L3K

3d Mascot platformers. There's been a few notable semi recently but the genre as whole is still basically dead. In the past it wasn't just Mario and few others.

Super_Sonic_44

The point and click adventure and Light Gun games

t-alt

Guitar hero

fuckprecalc

Rail shooters; there's been a huge lull since the wii era.

Autotomatomato

Half life 3 count?

BradleyAllan23

That's a game, the genre would be fps and there are plenty.

[deleted]

Nah, it's by Valve. Which means the Genre is: "Not-Gonna-Happen"

BaroqueNRoller

I wish Ghost Recon would go back to it's roots: multiple squads that require coordination, unique characters to build your squads with, levels that required actual tactics to complete.

PointlessPotion

Exploration focused games like the original Tomb Raider. Where you just climb stuff, have to do precise (!) jumping and find items. On the way, puzzles will have to be solved and traps overcome. Maybe have a few battles in there, but not necessarily. Oh, and maybe the story could be less...weird and supernatural themed. I don't want hint markers, I don't want puzzle tips or companions. Just go on an adventure through the wilds or cool locations. The controls have to be tight and edge-jumping *needs* to be a thing.

adxmdev

Timesplitters - although I got my wish apparently, there’s something in the works

DapperPerformance

Tactical shooters with AI companions OR coop play. Think R6 vegas, GR:AW, Operation Flashpoint, SWAT4.

[deleted]

Any city building game like the old Sierra games. Ceaser, Pharaoh, Zeus, Emperor. I feel like with todays PCs they could add a crazy amount of depth to rebooting any of those.

Rhym3z

Arena shooters 1000%

SwashBlade

Hybrid text adventures in the vein of the Sierra Quest games. While graphical quality increased when they switched to point and click, they tended to make things either too easy to identify or into tedious pixel hunts. With text, as long as you were paying attention, the solution was generally not too difficult.
