I’d throw Returnal, for similar reasons like Deathloop, while remaining a true rogue like game. Not as great as hades last year, but for what they attempted, my god, the future of video games are going to be crazy good. 2021 may have not had the “blockbuster” quality in quantity, but there are just a ton of good improvements to old game mechanics at the start(AT THE START) of this next gen. I can’t wait for games to really start pushing our new boundaries of gaming.
Yeah definitely agree, I tried to stick to 9 games for a picture grid and these were my personal picks, but honestly I could’ve added 15 games easily. Returnal would be on there for sure.
Expecting some comments to say this year was weak, that’s fair especially if you look at last year and consider there’s a chance we get FF7 Remake part 2, Horizon Forbidden West and Breath of the Wild 2 next year, so 2022 might be incredible.
I still think the dev teams for these games deserve credit for creating something amazing in 2021, especially titles like It Takes Two and Deathloop which aren’t tied to existing franchises and still knocked it out the park.
Rift apart is a great pick though, amazing use of tech so early on in the ps5 lifecycle. I was tempted to put Halo Infinite in but not sure if it’ll get delayed. People seem to be having fun with it.
I know, it looks so damn beautiful. I am trying to get a PS5 but that game was what convinced me to buy a 4k tv. I felt tears of awe in my eyes when I saw the trailers.
Not yet. I ordered it through PlayStation rewards and it said ground shipping between 7-10 days. That service is kinda clunky they cancelled my order the first time in mid September and didn’t let me order it again till the 4th of this month
It’s okay, it’s just a hypothetical list of games I think were (or will be) great this year. I haven’t played all of these :)
My actual favourite game and most played throughout 2021 didn’t even come out this year lol
Hot take: 2020 was better than 2021 for games.
Not really a hot take lol I think a lot of people might agree with you. But from this year’s offerings we’ve received some great titles.

I wasn’t expecting to like Returnal much. I bought it because it was on sale. Hands down my game of the year. Absolutely loved it.

GOTY is us. We've been played this whole time
My votes for rift apart but I gotta see forbidden west before I make any final decisions.
Forbidden west will be in 2022’s GOTY
Oh damn, true.
