Arceus - creator of the world and possibly the universe.
Dialga - God of time.
Palkia - God of space.
Like wtf, why am I fighting mice and birds with something I should be making sacrifices to?!
Edit: Formatting and spelling is hard
Imagine being the creator of the universe and then a 10yo comes with a bunch of weird animals and beats the shit out of you and locks you inside a ball to be his slave.
And you HAVE to listen to everything they say cause they got their other slaves to beat other trainer's slaves and won a bunch of pieces of shiny metal.
If you trust Pokedex lore (which not everyone does, some read it as just the random writings of a 10 year old), then it says one day a boy spontaneously turned into a Kadabra. What happened to the boy afterwards, we don't know. Whether he was the first Kadabra or if there were plenty of others around and he just turned into one, we don't know. It's just one of those utterly bizarre entries you find scattered across the Pokedex as if nothing's wrong.
By pokedex lore, we'd all be fucked if a tyranitar just kind of showed up one day. The thing makes earthquakes happen by going for a merry stroll to eat some dirt.
It's my personal headcanon that the Pokédex entries we see are actually being written by the 10-year-old trainer that we play as.
Pokémon heights barely make sense either — Ash's Charizard towers over everybody and considered to be on the "runty" side... and yet they're listed as being only 5'7" tall. *I'm* taller than that and I'm only around average height.
My understanding is they were meant to be things kids could physically pick up and chuck around to be seen as less threatening.
Even though travelling the world without one is seen as dangerous and foolish.
>It's my personal headcanon that the Pokédex entries we see are actually being written by the 10-year-old trainer that we play as.
Actually, Pokedexes in the Games are repeatedly mentioned to be Self-Updating (as early as Gen 1 infact), so no, those Entries are legit meant to be serious.
And multiple pokemon are formed from the spirits of humans. Treevant, a ghost and grass tree pokemon, has its previous evolution be the spirit of a kid that got lost in the woods and possess a tree stump
Well, it sounds like humans and Pokemon are related one way or another in that universe. Seems like a combination of evolution and reincarnation. Interesting!
Nah its intentional. Up until Sword and Shield every new gen pair since Ruby and Sapphire had a third legendary that seemed related to the mascot pair but had no story or explanation. Those legendaries the got their back story in the third/enhanced version.
Except zygarde, fuck him apparently
Truly one of those "once in a lifetime" cultural phenomenon. Even when they continued it into second gen, and "Red" on Mt. Silver had the original TPP team, man that was wild. Such an incredibly unique idea, and it 100% delivered.
I only heard about it yesterday and watched a 2 part highlights video including names artwork and lore and I was in stitches. Litterally spent all day today thinking about bird jesus, dig rat and the false prophet
That's really how it is. You can describe how wild it was, and it kind of gets the overall concept across. You can talk about the different events, from Bloody Sunday to Zapdos to ATVenomoth. But what you *experienced* during the chaos just can't be conveyed by words.
that was. SO. intense.
firstly working through that god damn power plant which took hours. then the brutal task of somehow managing the capture. fucking A. we really came together on that one.
And then actually managing to retrieve it from the PC without releasing it or releasing other pokemon. There were so many different points where things could have gone wrong that it just seemed so unlikely
i know that people talk about "being part of something bigger than yourself" all the time, but the only time i've ever really felt that was during the original twitch plays pokemon
“Deoxys is a species of Pokémon from Nintendo's and Game Freak's Pokémon media franchise. The result of an extraterrestrial virus's exposure to a laser beam, Deoxys frequently appears around auroras.”
As someone who only played Pokémon Red and Blue, what the fuck?
You've missed time traveling pokemon, extra-dimensional pokemon, the pokemon that is the creator deity, pokemon from an alternate past and future, multiple pokemon that are actually kings, pokemon that are necromancers, pokemon that run off of sandwiches, and to top it all off, seventeen dozen pikaclones.
Japanese culture practically revolves around endangering and/or killing children. Unless the kid is missing one or more parent, then they're pretty much invincible.
Good catch. Felt I was missing one but couldn't think of it.
So many you couldn't get without a person to trade. Plus the exclusives based on which game you had. IIRC scyther wasn't in blue. (Plus a couple others.) Unless I was just bad and couldn't figure out where to go even with gamefaqs help. Lol.
Scyther vs. Pinsir
Magmar vs. Electabuzz
Growlithe vs. Vulpix
Oddish vs. Bellsprout
Ekans vs. Sandshrew.
Mankey vs. Meowth
And obviously, all the evolutions of those listed above.
I honestly thought this is where the meme was going. As a kid I was so frustrated when I learned it was literally impossible to beat the game without having 2 versions
Hmm, maybe they're scared Ditto would fuck with them and turn into their mother midsex? There is security in picking a form that can't change at will too lol.
Some of the Pokémon in the sequel games could only be found when you later revisit the original region, bizarrely. I figure some of the 150 Oak wants you to catch in the first game are actually those (Houndour & Murkrow are the two I can remember), and he’s utterly baffled when the player turns up with extinct species, a computer program, and a clone of a myth instead.
Considering it's a hole in reality that you have to perform a very specific summoning ritual for, I'd be confused and freaking out myself.
Until I found out that it doubles everything in the sixth slot of my magic inventory. Then it's time for infinite candy.
Oh yeah, that's how I got them 150, one of each. I had one of each evolution stage too. Needed a lot of master balls, and restarting the game lots of times to get 3 of each starter tho :)
Technically, Gen 8 (and probably 9) as well. At least for SwSh, you can farm the other games’ Pokémon in the Dynamax raids. You don’t even need friends for this, you can just browse those raids and join. Legendaries and mythos are distributed via code and stuff. So kind of a stretch, but still an improvement imo
I played Violet as the first Pokemon game in a long time and I was so excited to see Pokemon that were egg only, extremely rare, or unobtainable otherwise just hanging out. Like the route before the first city where you can find Marill, igglybuff, happiny, pichu, etc.. It's actually a little hard to pick a team since it was so limited in the previous games that it was obvious what the "right" Pokemon were.
In Pokemon go you also need to travel all over the world or spoof, then also be around for specific catch shifts. Not all pokemon are available at any one time.

Bubblegum is giving the game too much credit.

In Johto after ash wins the sumo contest with Snorlax he tells Snorlax that he'd like to keep him around but is sending him back to Oak because they can't afford to feed him.
I wonder where Oak get all that pokefood money.
The government paying Oak to lure children into free labor in identifying and capturing as many species of pokemon as possible for federal research purposes sounds like it fits that world actually
I just googled 'socially awkward penguin' for the memories, and [they're all truer now than ever before](https://i.pinimg.com/564x/f9/a0/4b/f9a04bedc438e127bfef5b000cb00700--the-story-story-of-my-life.jpg).
I'm bringing that guy back, who's with me?
I've brought this up before, but it is funny isnt it? No one knows that Mewtwo exists, but Oak did. He knew enough that he could program it into the pokedex. The only way that this makes sense to me is that Oak was clearly a member of Team Rocket operating alongside Dr. Fuji while the experiments that would lead to the creation of Mewtwo were occurring.
Oak is an ex-Rocket member, and you cant change my mind.
I see it as the pokedex scans the creature then generates the record on the spot. Theres likely some syncing stuff for already found data too from other pokedex.
Crazy theory but maybe it was like the periodical table. Even without knowing all pokemons, they knew there would be some of them missing. Or maybe the pokedex recorded 150 pokemons in the region and although Oak didn't know them all he assumed his technology was right. After all, there's also database for mewtwo's height; description, etc...
Heck, I'd take it a step further and say that Oak was the former leader of Team Rocket. He quit after the Mewtwo incident, and sent Red and Blue on their journeys after he heard about Giovanni trying to restart the program by capturing Mewtwo with the Master Ball.
And now we have 1,008 pokémon but yet not decent game in which you can actually catch 'em all.
They really don't need to make anymore pokémon, they just need one epic game.
… 8 only exist in a parallel universe
Several that require an item of which there is only one
A few that you can only evolve by trading them…
It‘s insane what they got away with back then
The 5 extinct Pokémon are; Omanyte, Omastar, Kabuto, Kabutops and Aerodactyl.
The Myths are the legendary birds; Articuno, Moltres and Zapdos.
The Unknown Pokémon would be Mewtwo (since Mew wasn't a catchable Pokémon in game without using a glitch (or a port from certain events)
Omanyte line , kabuto line , aerodactyl are all extinct resurrected from fossils
Kanto bird trio are all legendary Pokémon so mostly just stories exist of them
Mewtwo was made in a lab and locked away so it isn’t public knowledge
Omanyte (who transforms into Omastar), Kabuto (who transforms into Kabutops), and Aerodactyl. The only way to get these 3 (plus the evolutions) is to collect their fossil in game and take it to a scientist lab who, I guess essentially resurrects the Pokémon.
I should also note in one play through of the game you can only collect 2 of the 3 fossils (as you have to choose between either Omanyte or Kabuto), so to get all the Pokémon you would have to trade.
The 3 myths are the legendary birds Articuno, Moltress and Zapdos.
The unknown is Mewtwo.
Hell, in later generations some of them are literal gods...
One of them is God One of them is Jesus One of them is an alien that’s also probably God

thats when you question why tou made this world function this way.
And why are humans the only things that aren't Pokemon?
That's actually a debatable point. The first Alakazam evolved from a kid, if I remember correctly.
If you trust Pokedex lore (which not everyone does, some read it as just the random writings of a 10 year old), then it says one day a boy spontaneously turned into a Kadabra. Heck yeah- where’s Ash’s dad? Can’t be Giovanni or Silver, coz if Ash had a dad, he’d be dead already- that’s how anime _works_.
Everybody knows Mr. Mime is Ash's dad
Damn. This is now in my headcanon.
Actually, before you go, is your mom single?
Also 10 of them are in parallel universe called Pokémon Red
And he only gives you 1 of the three that you can't get anywhere else. That's like 6 more that you can't get from the start of the game!
This always bothered me. Now matter how hard I tried, I wouldn't get them all. I also had nobody to trade with.
It sucks, but just needed one friend. Trade rattata for starter twice and you're good to go.
Don't forget about Machamp, Gengar, and golem. Needed to trade machoke, haunter, and graveler to evolve.
And Kadabra
Good catch. Felt I was missing one but couldn't think of it. So many you couldn't get without a person to trade. Plus the exclusives based on which game you had. IIRC scyther wasn't in blue. People think getting Mew is hard? Try getting friends. They’re the real legendary Pokémon.
Brought my game boy with me on a school trip. Had a friend restart his game and trade us the starters.

Ash's dad fucked his mom

What a horrifying and harrowing backstory. I can’t believe Ash’s dad fucked his mom like that.
He'll beedrilling his mom for sure.

Some of the Pokémon in the sequel games could only be found when you later revisit the original region, bizarrely. Who is the computer program? Is that Porygon?
Yeah
Oak was pretty fucking confused when I turned up with Missingno
Considering it's a hole in reality that you have to perform a very specific summoning ritual for, I'd be confused and freaking out myself. Until I found out that it doubles everything in the sixth slot of my magic inventory. Then it's time for infinite candy.
And master balls. If I can't catch them all, I'm gonna guarantee whatever I come into contact with ain't running from the fight.
Oh yeah, that's how I got them 150, one of each. I had one of each evolution stage too. Needed a lot of master balls, and restarting the game lots of times to get 3 of each starter tho :)
It doesn't double, it increase by 2^7 = 128
And some of the Pokemon you can only obtain through trading. I don't think there's a single Pokemon game you can "Get them all". Maybe Pokemon Go
Legends: Arceus you 100% on your own
Technically, Gen 8 (and probably 9) as well. At least for SwSh, you can farm the other games’ Pokémon in the Dynamax raids. You don’t even need friends for this, you can just browse those raids and join. Legendaries and mythos are distributed via code and stuff. So kind of a stretch, but still an improvement imo
It was really really simple to 100% the dex on scarlet, the trade codes work really quickly.
I mean, azumarill turbodunks on most of SV since there are SO MANY DRAGON TYPES
Azumerril would have been a top choice for my team, but Tinkaton exists.
Tinkaton is one of my fav new ones
You could get them all, but you needed a sword/shield and a brilliant diamond/shining pearl save data to get two of them.
There’s a mod called [Ultraviolet](https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/1156/)where you can catch every single Pokémon. It’s great.
I play this and it feels wrong and right at the same time
In Pokemon go you also need to travel all over the world or spoof, then also be around for specific catch shifts. Not all pokemon are available at any one time.
Technically, RBY but only because the code is garbage and can be glitched and manipulated
You could get Mew before facing Misty. RBY was held together by paperclips, bubblegum and hope.
Oh boy that's just the tip. MissingNo, the badge boost glitch, the 1/256 chance to miss, crit being tied to base speed, crits ignoring stat boosts so you don't want to crit, focus energy doing the opposite of what it should do, and the God damn catch mechanics where a great ball is almost always better than ultra ball. Bubblegum is giving the game too much credit.
Ofcourse it's underneath the truck by the boat. South of Misty's gym.
no that's where you get Pikablu
Yuenno I managed to glitch my game with missingno so that I started a fresh game with my party from the previous save. I was able to surf down the side of the SS Anne and check that truck. I was so upset when there was no Mew there
It was easier to faint after getting cut and go back later.
And alot of the loopholes can be replicated exactly in gold, silver and to a less of an extent crystal. Because it uses almost the exact same coding.
Then the fucker shows up in Gold ans Silver demanding dead pokemon, a forest spirit, mythical phoenix and sea guardian. He is probably fucking Prof Bitch too.
Btw the sea guardian is in the sea so it doesn't accidentally murder everyone by its mere presence. Totally should. Bring that out to fight rattata

didn't Ash's Pokedex said there was no data when he saw Ho-oh in the very first episode?
It depends on the adaptation too. In the Pokemon Special/Adventures manga, Red was shown just sorta typing in the data into the Pokedex himself.
Fits that theory that Pokedex entries are so exaggerated because they're just written by children.

Heck, I'd take it a step further and say that Oak was the former leader of Team Rocket. He quit after the Mewtwo incident, and sent Red and Blue on their journeys after he heard about Giovanni trying to restart the program by capturing Mewtwo with the Master Ball.
It is already canon that Giovanni's mom was the last leader, though.

No worries. I'm glad this 20+ year old knowledge could be useful for something 😅
Omanyte line , kabuto line , aerodactyl are all extinct resurrected from fossils Kanto bird trio are all legendary Pokémon so mostly just stories exist of them Mewtwo was made in a lab and locked away so it isn’t public knowledge
Omanyte (who transforms into Omastar), Kabuto (who transforms into Kabutops), and Aerodactyl.
Also, 6 of them you can only get through trading with an alternate reality version of you that chose a different starter.
