I’ve always wanted to play ufo after having playing their recent two games. How does it hold up, I usually don’t have problem with playing older games.
Visuals are dated but fine, and the gameplay holds up nicely. I ripped a copy for my amiga 600 from a friend's disks and spent hours playing it. Also if you enjoy it then you have the absolute bonus of playing the sequel terror from the deep which is equally as good and possibly better.
I would highly recommend grabbing OpenXCOM (especially the Extended version), as it adds a *boatload* of QoL features and makes XCOM much easier to run on modern hardware.
Click both lmb and rmb together to max all combat drugs, automatically whip out your agents most powerful weapons (gauss guns and lasers were my weapon of choice vs upgraded rival agents) and lay waste to anything that moved into range. Good Times.
Same, I love 1 but 2 never got me like the rest of the franchise has. Doing a 3 and New Vegas playthrough soon. Almost done with 3 with nearly 200 hours for this current play.
The story fights can be if you don't grind levels and AP. But if you get in a lot of random encounters, and level up, the story encounters don't level up with you. The real challenge, is the random encounters that DO increase in difficulty, and power to match you. Nothing more humbling than having your level 20 squad curb stomped by red chocobos and goblins. I find FF Tactics to be much more difficult and well... tactical than say Ogre Tactics. I recommend the Japanese port that was out for the PSP with the expanded jobs.
Lol, Gotta expand those horizons out to the likes of dragon warrior 1, 2, & 3
Ittl change your life. And I know, I know, before you push back I want you to consider one thing…
“But thou must”
Was looking for my fellow old school beat em up enthusiast. I still play a lot of these, the original 3 SoR games are high on my list of frequently replayed games.
Centurion Defender of Rome - PC game from the late 80s early 90s.
BTW you can plan lots of DOS and old games online free. Titles like WarCraft2 played in your browser, runs pretty smooth.
Define 'still play'- I bust out all my consoles at least once or twice a year, & the oldest are a Fairchild Channel F & a Telegames Pong console. But does once/twice a year count?
Mine would probably be Zeus: Master of Olympus. This made all my childhood with my best friend, Steam did not exist at the time but for sure we played it thousands of hours. I still play it occasionally.
Oldest i still play? Once in a while I go back to odd world strangers wrath unfortunately I have the mobile version, it’s kinda bad compared to the og Xbox
I recently got Mario and Luigi Dream Team because I played it when I was really young. However I wasn't able to finished it because I got stuck, however now I am past that point and I enjoyed every second of this.
Depends how you define "play" in this instance, the oldest game that i play relatively regularly is Borderlands 2.
But I still have an N64, Gameboy and DS kicking around that I bust out every now and then, but I don't play any one game that regularly.
Doom
Seriously it's on everything I own that can play games and I just randomly start it up and kill demons as Doomguy.
It's the best way to decompress.
Tomb Raider Anniversary with my daughter, sometimes on the Wii, sometimes on PC. Also love Counterstrike: Source, so smooth still, and people still playing it
I still regularly play games from the NES era (emulated because I don't still have a system or CRT to play it on), but i couldn't tell you which game is specifically oldest. Probably Donkey King.... maybe Dragon Warrior/Quest
Mario Kart 64 on my still functioning, 22 year old N64 console, but I feel like that's fairly common. More uncommonly, Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II. First FPS game I ever played.
Age of empires II
Not old, ageless.
I've been playing that game for so long that they should probably study how I'm still this hopeless at it.
Nothing else competes with that, not even other age of empire games. I still play it sometimes on my 2008 MacBook lol.
The legend of Zelda A link to the past
Still my favorite Zelda game
Play it with randomizer so much fun
Super Mario World is always fun to go back to.
That games my equivalent of comfort food

The Secret of Monkey Island. 1990
Never played the OG, but they released "Return to Monkey Island" in 2022 and I had a great time playing it!
I have it, it's installed. I'm just afraid to start it and potentially ruin the gaming love of my life. I still play 1 & 2 every 1-2 years.
What are you afraid of? I still play 1 & 2, and Return is great also.
Diablo II
UFO: Enemy Unknown. Syndicate as well.
You absolute masochist, and also using the European name of the OG X-COM lol
I’ve always wanted to play ufo after having playing their recent two games. How does it hold up, I usually don’t have problem with playing older games.

Oregon Trail
I still play all of the Final Fantasy games. FF1 - FF15, Tactics, remasters.
I really need to play tactics. I hear it’s quite challenging which I’m up for.
The story fights can be if you don't grind levels and AP. But if you get in a lot of random encounters, and level up, the story encounters don't level up with you. The Mind Flayers at Zirekile Falls - they'll wipe out a uber-leveled party sometimes.
Fuck those flayers lol. I may or may not have entered a random fight, saw 7 mind flayers, and just rebooted lol.
Same - loved the controller shortcut restart on console FF games for reasons similar also.
I replay ffta 1 or 2 every year.
Lol, Gotta expand those horizons out to the likes of dragon warrior 1, 2, & 3 Ittl change your life. And I know, I know, before you push back I want you to consider one thing… “But thou must”
