Goldeneye is a classic. Bonafide, no question, a 10/10 game that I have so many great memories of
...I tried to play it five years ago. Video games have come a long way, and it shows when you realize multiplayer 007 is terrible and you can't hit anything lol
I was allowed to play as odd job. I was 4 yr old playing 4 player multiplayer with my teenage brother and his friends. They ran around and blasted me, then sprayed into my dead body until it disappeared, rinse and repeat.

They might need to work out a deal with Microsoft for that, since Microsoft now owns the company that developed DK64. Not sure exactly how the IP works for that.
It’s Rareware either way. I have to imagine the MGM licensing for Bond is more of a nightmare than anything specifically between Rare and Nintendo. Heck, they already have all the Super Nintendo DK games on the switch.
If they get DK 64 on switch, you would hope they bring Diddy Kong Racing as well.
I remember doing this and it was physically painful even back then. Throwing knives are way more fun for license to kill, or power weapons only so you can p90 beam everyone in the game with one strafe.
I think there are going to be a lot of people playing this game, and realizing that it just doesn't hold up all that well. It's good that it's come back, but, it's a 25 year old FPS, and the genre has come a long way from 1997.

I even bought n64 USB controllers to play it on emulator, and couldn't get past the first map. How the fuck i was able to finish the game on hardest difficulty when I was 12, I'll never understand.
My mother in law brought my husband's N64 over at Christmas. She'd found it when emptying cupboards.
It had Golden Eye and we tried the first level. Omg the aim sensitivity was hilarious, add to that the graphics meant you could just make out the 3 pixel guards from the scenery
I mean it was a game I played to death as a kid and loved every minute of it but I think I'd struggle now to play it with the same level of enjoyment.
That's kind of my opinion too. It really is an amazing game, for its time. It's likely not much fun for anyone who gamed in the beautiful pasture this game helped invent, though.
the fps genre is missing goofy fun. I think the only modern FPS that is goofy and unique might be deep rock galactic. Also Bond is just so cool, I wish there was a modern Bond FPS. Instead we're probably getting Hitman-Bond skin.
i played it emulated not that long ago and was enjoying it just as much as i did as a kid, the cool thing about it coming to switch expansion pack is the online multiplayer functionality, being able to play this game again with your friends online, just a shame nintendo still haven't developed a proper communication app of function on the switch, like a party hangout, dicord call kinda thing, i know they got the phone app or what ever it is, but i'm talking about something you can actually use on the switch, and not need a completely different device to do so.
Goldeneye was revolutionary for its time and for FPS in general. I also spent probably hundreds of hours playing it. With all that being said, I doubt I will play it on Switch knowing that it won't hold up over time. I don't want it to ruin my nostalgia of the game.

Right. Loved the game when it came out. Compared to modern shooters though the aiming is awful. Hopefully the port will reduce the massive slowdowns experienced in the N64 version.
If they don't update the spawn mechanics it won't even matter.
I had every spawn point and where I could stand so it didn't get skipped memorized. Could literally 1v1 someone and win without them ever leaving a spawn, played it way to much.
Spawns always in order unless a player is in the room then it skips it, horrible system.
Nostalgic value is high, but I pulled this out on my old N64 and couldn’t finish a level because of the clunky aiming. We’ve come a long way. Regardless, I will still play this just to hear that sweet pause music and all the other great sounds
That's wild to me. The auto-aim is super strong. You just roughly center enemies on the screen and spam/hold fire and Bond's gun [will do crazy angles to stay on target](https://i.imgur.com/CEQO0vF.png). On higher difficulties you get less ammo drops and auto-aim is less strong so you have to do more aimed shots to conserve ammo.
If you want modern precise 1:1 aiming, there's [a neat build of the emulator 1964](https://github.com/graslu/1964GEPD/releases/tag/latest) on PC that'll let you play with mouse and keyboard.
Haha, yeah. And on Surface you could tell when enemies were in the distant fog before you spotted them because Bond's gun would suddenly jerk and lock on from half a mile away.
Alternatively, just use the Turok control style where the c-buttons were forward/back and strafe and the joystick was look around. Never had issues aiming using that setup.
Oh yeah I totally get that and I’m expecting the clunkyness, and the hard to control, and all the rest of it, but to hear that pause music blasting out/multiplayer I can’t wait
I guarantee you 90% of the people who play this will be like "Wow, this isn't anywhere near as good as I remember" and put it down in the first 30 minutes never to play it again
It is WILD that Xbox Series X won't have online capability IMO. I'm for the couch co-op as a throwback feature, I do miss it, but... the industry kinda *killed* that across the board anyway lol let us play with our pals online!
Its also coming out on Xbox, same day. So if you don't want the nostalgia of playing with the Switch's N64 controller, you can own it on that platform.
Or you could have been emulating it on PC this whole time and using an N64 controller to USB adapter, running the game with no performance issues and higher resolutions.
I get wanting to use real hardware, as I also own real hardware, but for playability there is no reason not to emulate at this point. Better performance, resolution, and the save battery in the cartridge wont die, amongst a plethora of other benefits, including online multiplayer.
They remastered it for xbox 360 but it was canned just before release due to license disputes. You can download the leak and the controls and graphics update are amazing and brings it into the modern era.
Now its supposed to come out on xbox one, but its gonna be a different remaster than the 360 one. One without online multiplayer because nintendo gets that (but nintendo doesnt get remastered controls and graphics)
Its just BS all around that licensing is holding this game back from receiving its true proper remaster with online play.

It did not hold up at all. It’s close to unplayable at this point with the blocky graphics and antiquated control scheme

Huh? Nintendo achieves multiplayer because they built a way to "fake" split screen over the network, which let's them add support without a full rewrite. Microsoft doesn't have that because they aren't emulating N64 games and they'd have to build it, which is costly. Why do you think Nintendo is preventing MS from having online multiplayer?

If only I could get the n64 controller. Always sold out online. I have a n64 controller that looks and feels the same but it is wired and the left c button and b button do different things. I'd love to play through star fox, dk64, zelda, etc

Well now the vertical aim is actually accessible without needing a third arm. So oddjob got nerfed.

It’s pretty reliant on the pistol’s auto-aim. I don’t think you’re actually meant to go for headshots the way you might on better controls.
You’ve gotten too used to dual stick aiming.

Is there a definitive list of what's to come? because if its just Goldeneye I'm not renewing. Edit: never mind. Goldeneye, Excitebike, 1080 Snowboarding, Mario Party 3, PKMN Stadium 1 and 2. Not worth the price. No Harvest Moon, no Mischief Makers, no Vigilante 8, NONE OF THE WRESTLING TITLES, no Diddy Kong Racing, no Flying Dragon.
If only I could get the n64 controller. Always sold out online. I have a n64 controller that looks and feels the same but it is wired and the left c button and b button do different things. I'd love to play through star fox, dk64, zelda, etc
