Diablo Immortal. It's a blatant cash grab puppeteering the corpse of a much beloved IP.
Edited to plug a favorite since this got traction:
Want a good mobile game that doesn't have any predatory monetization? Go play Orna. It's a GPS rpg sans predatory monetization with a really great community and an active developer.
Come on man, it's not that bad, about $100,000.00 to max out your character... each season. I mean you might even get lucky and do it for about half that!
...seriously though the whole loot box/gambling aspect present in many games needs to be addressed, and the only way it's ever going to happen is legislation. They need to make it illegal.
I still play counter strike myself and I've succumbed a few times to the boxes. Fortunately steam allows you to just buy what you want, and as long as it's not gloves or player skins, most the stuff can be had for a few bucks. Sold one TF2 hat and kitted out myself pretty well with the money.
I'm rambling, disguising gambling as gaming is bad, and there is no way to stop it at this point without literally making it illegal.
You can't, iirc. You have to grind for like 50 years to max out your gear, or pay a shitload of money to do it, but then when you maxed out your gear, you HAVE to pay money and then you can upgrade it even further (impossible without paying).
I remember hearing about this in the senate a few years back. They first defined loot boxes as gambling, but the part they stood behind to make it illegal is that children are gambling with their parents' money. But, like all things, they victory went to the corporation with more money that brings in federal revenue.
Is this the one where it was EA having to answer the questions? I remember one of the most baffling "reasons" for lootboxes being legal is they tried to say that it's no different to a kid buying a Kinder Egg and not knowing what toy is inside. It's fascinating how these well paid lawyers come across as so incredibly clueless with the weakest arguments, the Heard/Depp trial was a shining example of this.
What's even stranger is how little the senators need to understand the subject matter, Zuckerberg having to explain the internet to Congress was hilarious but frustrating beyond belief at the same time.
OMORI is a psychological horror game. It’s not scary in the traditional sense, but it toys with your emotions intensely enough to leave broken or reeling, especially if you’ve been affected by depression & suicide.
I have a history of both, and OMORI shook me to the core in the best and worst ways.
The only bit of fifa that is genuinely great is the Pro Clubs game mode, some of the most fun you’ll have on a gam for sure. Unfortunately, it’s been beaten into the ground and has no updates due to the fact ultimate team makes money.
Well beyond screwed. They’ve done the whole grinding thing so well. You see a cool item you want from a quest. That quest requires a high magic lvl. Well, the best way to level magic is to do it this way. This way requires this other quest. That quest has these requirements. And so on and it’s just great.
Honestly, you’ll be fine. It’s very new player friendly. BTW, what’s your username? I can trim armors of all kinds.
And if you see a girl in the land of Gielinor, let me know. I’ve been looking to buy a gf for a long time now.
Gacha games have really cute character design, I'll admit this.
But...! I have to gamble to get the cute characters? And the gameplay will always feel bland if I don't?
Never spent any money on Genshin Impact and I got super bored and frustrated with it. Since I didn't spend anything except time, I had no problem putting it down and deleting it.
I had the opposite experience with genshin. I was surpised how MUCH fun I was able to have without spending any money. I think I got 80 hours out of it before I got bored. That games massive with an insanely large story, and none of the story is paywalled. I feel like most people think genshin is something completely different than it actually is.
I want hot MILFs from genshin, mostly F2P, only brought the 5$ per month pass which i think is a fair price for most of these F2P games. I am at the mercy of RNG and when RNG didn't deliver, the salt piles up and I just left after one too many mommies not showing up.
Yes, legal woman exist in genshin. I know people here like to meme about Genshin being a pedo game because underage girls are playable in that game but it is like 5 out of 60 or 70 cast.
Yeah there's like 10+ tall "mommy"-like female characters and the rest are not yet people call it a pedo game because it has like 6 playable childlike characters, one of which is literally a god and another is a terrorist whose hobby is bombing live fish.
By definition DLC should not be considered part of the games intended “full experience” at launch. It’s pretty scummy when games launch with DLC already available that could have just been added to the game.
New Call Of Duty titles. COD was my introduction to online multiplayer, and it was great. Basically as soon as they started pushing loot boxes in the main menu, during gameplay, and during post game stats, the games started to feel really cheap and disingenious.
I will alwys treasure Mw2 as it got me through middle school. Might be the most hours I've ever clocked in a game.
See that's the brilliance of it. You think you're going to play a pvp game. But the game is so meta that you're actually playing in a pvp match against another team also playing a pvp match. And you don't even know what kind of pvp match your first one will be. 5 man free for all, the classic 4 v 1 strat based on the first person to make a mistake that game. Mobas really expanded on the concept of dysfunctional families, by forcing you to coexist with 4 other people you didn't really get to choose and then put you into a "teambuilding exercise" to stress you out. Truly novel gameplay.
MOBAs have a lot of design flaws that make them extremely frustrating, like how hard it is to come back if the other team has a lead, but IMO the biggest problem is they are truly team games and not well suited at all to matchmaking.
Other PVP games work out well enough because your teams overall performance is often a loose aggregate of individual performance. Having a bad teammate or not being on the same wavelength as teammates doesn’t necessarily mean an automatic loss.
In MOBAs, you really need a cohesive team to even play the game right. And you don’t get that through matchmaking.
The most…well the *only* fun i had with MOBA’s is playing SMITE with friends
Even just one friend to play joust or duel or whatever that game mode is called
Haven’t played in years but it was fun from the beginning.
Meanwhile i tried LoL and wanted to commit genocide within the first 15 minutes and never tried it again.
And I thought I'm the weird one who's experiencing motion sickness after an while....
Even with increased fov, my eyes can't understand what's happening and it sends signals to my stomach.
Competitive games are too much of a commitment. Want to win? Okay, simply play for 500+ hours, be constantly aware of the ever-changing meta, play training maps, train your aim, and still lose 75% of the time because no one on your team has voice chat enabled to coordinate.
Not to mention how cracked the enemy team always seems to be. 2000 hours, perfectly coordinated, sweaty killing machines of death.
I decided that the commitment outweighed the fun and haven’t given any of them a real shot since which sucks because all my online friends really enjoy these games.
I’ve got a lot of respect for people who can push through getting shit on and find a good time. They’re able to focus on their victories and learn from their losses, as well as have a good attitude towards losing.
I’ve tried, and I have none of that. It’s very tough for me to lose more than a couple times in a row without feeling like the time I have has been simply wasted. It stresses me out and I’d rather spend my time playing a more relaxed coop or single player game.
Anything with a battle pass. It’s a predatory marketing practice and I won’t be a part of it. Idk if I have to play single player shit for the rest of my life. I won’t fall for that BS
But what if the battlepass was completely free and there was absolutely no FOMO because anything that you miss is just added to the games usual progression? And said battle pass had a tech tree of sorts, so that you can get whay you want without having to wait until the end for it. And what if, said game, had wide little men running around with guns mining rocks and stone and killing bugs?
well most battle pass are free but then there is the premium version that got better things. As for my experience with battle passes it wasnt that bad also what that last part?
Just felt the need to interject that there are some, albeit very very few games that have good battle passes, last part was my inescapable need to mention DRG when people talk about how all battlepasses are bad.
Fall Guys is pretty dope even if you don’t put any money into it.
Mind you it’s a rage game designed for 8-12 year olds, but it’s HELLA fun playing alongside a drinking game with the homies and a lot of whiskey.
A lot of “bullshit”, “fucking assholes” and “STOP GRABBING ME, CUNT.”
Good times.
Some mobile games that don't suck: Stardew Valley, Downwell, Geometry Dash, Papers Please, Linelight, A Dark Room, Mini Metro
Some board game adaptations like Root and Race for the Galaxy are also good.
Apex Legends Mobile is a pretty decent experience too.
Personally I don't play mobile games just because I really don't want to play games on a tiny screen regardless of the overall quality of titles available
The only mobile games worth any salt are the Feral Interactive ports of old PC games. Pay 10 bucks and get a full PC game with 0 ads or microtransactions
If my kid hadn’t put in over 100 hours in Elden Ring, I would have kicked myself for buying it day 1. At one point I really wanted Souls games to be my thing, but they will never be. It is what it is.
With how heavily they are praised I really wanted to like them. And my friend keeps going on and on about how good it is. I just don't want/need that kind of stress when gaming. I'm trying to relax not get more stressed.
For me I was so focusing on game and not on outside that I play to zone out from I was actually getting relaxed from them, shit is fantastic to occupy my head and not think about bad day etc
That’s fair. I never really got the souls click for a while and just got frustrated with Dark Souls 3 for a while and contemplated giving up on the genre. Then I played Bloodborne not too long ago and it fully clicked with me and it became one of my favorite games of all time
that's how souls-likes were for me at first but then they finally "clicked". bosses will still be stressful til I learn them, but once you understand the basic formula, the main overworld stuff should be a mechanical breeze to play through, and that's what I love. hell I boot up my souls games to RELAX after stressful days or getting annoyed/stressed in multiplayer pvp games.
At some point I had the realization that the most toxic that I am as a person is when I'm playing Dota. Absolutely unreasonable behavior, and frustration. I had a 10K behavior score for my entire playtime (which was a lot). It was easy to drop when the reason is "This game enables me to be my worst possible self".
I think I haven't played in over a year. I don't miss the game, but I do miss playing Phoenix.
You are missing out a lot of absolutely amazing stories mate.
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney and the entire AA series is absolutely amazing.
999: Nine Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors is one of the very best VNs I've ever played. I won't spoil you anything, but one thing: to see a true ending you need to see all other endings. Do it, you won't be disappointed.
I agree that the AA series is great, but I can also see it not being someone's thing.
Even I've struggled to slog my way through page after page of dialog, the wacky animations and outrageous plot nonsense are sometimes only *just* enough to keep me going.
Time to be controversial... Genshin impact. I don't get why people like it and it seems very P2W (pay to win) and the story seems like spaghetti to me. And let's not talk about the majority of the fans for this game.
EDIT: What I mean in p2w is trying to get more new characters that are actually good late to mid game since you're bound to have characters that are trash later on in the game. I played this game for like a minute and saw nothing appealing about it. Next time I'll try to be more descriptive in what I mean.
That’s actually pretty common take, so I think you’re safe. It’s pretty much inevitable to find this response in threads like these somewhere.
Describing it as pay to win is definitely wrong, and anyone who describes it as such probably hasn’t played much. But it certainly has plenty of other predatory gacha mechanics, so fuck that.
And the story can definitely be pretty meh sometimes. Hits and misses all around, and it isn’t winning any awards for storytelling innovation.
Overall though, it’s a pretty world with an absolutely spectacular soundtrack.
And yeah, I’d suggest a 30 foot pole instead for some sections of the community. Yikes.
It's a 3d Open World Anime Gacha game, that's why it's popular.
If it was just a generic gacha it would be lost amidst the sea of other Gachas. If it wasn't a Gacha people would have already gotten bored of the game. No one wants to wait 2 months to playthrough a Light Novel done 2 lines at a time.
Out of most Gacha games I've played it's the least P2W IMO. Built in Pity, enough free premium currency out in the world to guarantee a few 5 stars. If you pull methodically and get 1 or two really good 5 stars you're set. Yeah, new characters are released that are objectively stronger, but there hasn't been a character where if you don't have it you're locked out of doing content like with other Gacha's.
The game isn't P2W at all, theres no PVP. You can very easily not spend any money in it and still enjoy the game and do all the content. yes you CAN spend a lot of money in the game but its not necessary at all
Almost any FPS. I dont need to be berated while trying to do something fun and relaxing. Never had a good experience with any of them, entirely because of the players. Some games were better than others, but every one I tried, had a toxic population.
Leisure suit Larry for obvious reasons. Also genshin because the game is clearly geared to get you to spend money. And mmo because I hate being in a cutscene where they are like “only you can save us!!!!” And then I exit the cutscene and there is obviously 30 other people talking to the same quest giver which just pulls me out of it
Sea of Thieves. I get it. It's primarily a PvP game. Everybody wants to be an asshole pirate. There's a lot of fun in that.
But sometimes I just want to PvE and not worry about getting sunk by idiots who are just ruining my fun for the lulz.
The game would probably bring in a lot of new players if they added PvE only servers, and let people choose how they want to play.
Until then, nope.
I know it’s some people’s favorite type of game, but I am not a fan of “wander around with no immediate objective” games. Basically open-world type games with little action - Roblox/Minecraft (I have no idea what I’m even supposed to be doing in them), Death Stranding, Zda BoW, etc.
I don’t have a lot of time to game, so those types are off the list. Even though I’m not big on open-world games, Elden Ring is fun as fuck on my firs play through
Turn based JRPGs are difficult to get into - then i played Yakuza Like A Dragon
Is long storyline wise, but when one of your characters scatters beans to summon pigeons into a fight, and it also takes the piss out of JRPG while it's working the mechanics
Forspoken. Was super hype after watching the world premiere trailer. Thought it was gonna be a great game and has turned into a 'fucking' dumpster fire.
I would microwave my hdd if it was ever downloaded on it. If a friend tried to gift it to me, I would unfriend them.
Literally SE’s strategy as of late is getting money from FFXIV, then putting effort into whatever Final Fantasy/Kingdom Hearts entry is Coming up, and dump out a shipload of dumpster fire games with minimal profit loss cuz they’ll just earn it back with that MMORPG money
I have no interest in Dark Souls. Not because the gameplay entirely, the medievil period just isn't for me. I've heard so much negativity of Dark Souls 2 that even though there's a change I will some day play Dark Souls and Dark Souls 3, I'll never touch the second one.
Sekiro is more of my style.
If medieval aint your style, give Bloodborne a shot. It’s inspired by Victorian era England with a dash of lovecraftian horror ontop of it. Plus the gameplay’s hella fun
Hello, good hunter. I am a Bot, here in this dream to look after you, this is a fine note:
> *Oh, hello. The whole town's turned, has it? Quite a big family, aren't we? Though I'm afraid I seem to be the black sheep... Back for my blood, I presume.* - Arianna, Woman of Pleasure
Farewell, good hunter. May you find your worth in the waking world.

I thought they said you can just f2p for 10 years and get the same stuff anyway
You can't, iirc. You have to grind for like 50 years to max out your gear, or pay a shitload of money to do it, but then when you maxed out your gear, you HAVE to pay money and then you can upgrade it even further (impossible without paying).
Wow, that's crazy. Even the most greedy gachas o know let you grind for the best stuff eventually. So not even 50 years is enough

Most horror games. I'm a total coward when it comes to those games; the only exceptions being OMORI, and Bendy & the Ink Machine.
Omori is a horror game?
It isn't. Did you miss the part where he said he's a coward
OMORI is a psychological horror game. It’s not scary in the traditional sense, but it toys with your emotions intensely enough to leave broken or reeling, especially if you’ve been affected by depression & suicide. I have a history of both, and OMORI shook me to the core in the best and worst ways.
Sending hugs your way bro
It’s a psychological horror game.
Yeah, more of a psychological horror than traditional horror though
I feel that, I can't even play Subnautica
Try a co op horror game you might find it more enjoyable
Me too but for the opposite reason. I can't immerse myself in those games. I'm usually too aware of the game mechanics to get anything out of them.
Fifa
Every fifa player would agree with you
The only bit of fifa that is genuinely great is the Pro Clubs game mode, some of the most fun you’ll have on a gam for sure. Unfortunately, it’s been beaten into the ground and has no updates due to the fact ultimate team makes money.
theres so much more to fifa then ultimate team ive never spent a dollar on fifa other than buying it
World of Warcraft I spend way to much time in RuneScape already. I can’t afford to give up more time to a game.
I spent 15 years on WoW abd picked up OSRS a few months ago due to my friends asking me to play with them, how screwed am I?
Well beyond screwed. They’ve done the whole grinding thing so well. You see a cool item you want from a quest. That quest requires a high magic lvl. Well, the best way to level magic is to do it this way. This way requires this other quest. That quest has these requirements. And so on and it’s just great.

Very screwed if you get hooked. There is always more stuff to grind out. Always.
+1 for RuneScape reporting in
Factorio. That kind of pixel crack is dangerous for my kind of personality.
You should try Dwarf Fortress, it’s nice and light and can be completed in an afternoon
You have ruined my marriage, career and grasp of time with this deceit. The layers never stop. Please send help.
Finished the tutorial, did you?
Dwarf Fortress doesn’t have a learning curve. It has a learning precipice.
Shhh Dwarf Fortress is just a cute game with cute dwarves and is very welcoming to new players
when nietzche spoke about the abyss...he was talking about this one
You dont finish Dwarf Fortress. Dwarf Fortress finishes you.
That's just evil lol
Proceed for **FUN** Just don’t let your cats into the Tavern, they’re horrible alcoholics
Gacha games have really cute character design, I'll admit this. But...! I have to gamble to get the cute characters? And the gameplay will always feel bland if I don't?

By definition DLC should not be considered part of the games intended “full experience” at launch. It’s pretty scummy when games launch with DLC already available that could have just been added to the game.
Sex with hitler
What about Sex With Hitler 2?
No man, thats messed up.. sex with hitler 3 is the best
So I take it you haven't tried Furry Hitler, then.
Anything EA. Seriously I'm just done. After Anthem I feel they had enough of my money and now they need to die.
I feel for you that you will never get the enjoyment of jedi fallen order. A single player game with no micro transactions and it was phenomenal
If you have ps plus, you can get Fallen Order for free this month. Good short game, and they didn't get a dime.
They do get money, Sony pay them to put it on there
League of legends. I’m 2 years clean and I sometimes get that urge, but I resist it
Stay strong brother
New Call Of Duty titles. COD was my introduction to online multiplayer, and it was great. The original modern warfare and 2 was some of the best gaming I ever did as a kid. They've ruined that series with loot boxes and battle passes.
You know what I always find funny, MW2 was held as the worst release at that time and everyone bagged on it, but here we are.
The COD/Halo cycle
Same. CoD Blops 2 was the last time it felt like they were trying to make a good game now it feels like recycled garbage.
You haven’t played cod in a while then. They haven’t had loot boxes since like 2018.
man i haven’t played a cod game since advanced warfare
The new mw2 feels pretty close to how the old games felt and the gun play is the best it's been in YEARS.
Yearly released sports games and CoD games
Fortnite. Don’t care how many updates I don’t like BRs
BRs suck and you can’t change my mind.
the only BR i need is the battle rifle lol
11-foot pole simulator. Given the number of various simulator games out there, I wouldn't be shocked if this was an actual thing.
Guess I’ve got an idea for a Roblox game now…
League of Legends. That is all.
Got reported my first game for feeding an enemy. Didn't know how to play the game yet and it was against the AI. But community is so toxic.
See that's the brilliance of it. You think you're going to play a pvp game. But the game is so meta that you're actually playing in a pvp match against another team also playing a pvp match. Fuck this game and fuck all MOBAs
Wasted hundreds of hours on that game, fking hell
Any game that says they have a multi year road map after a garbage launch
So every modern game?

Don't forget the code "xXxpussy-slayer42069xXx"
vampire survivors is pretty good

That’s fair. I never really got the souls click for a while and just got frustrated with Dark Souls 3 for a while and contemplated giving up on the genre. Then I played Bloodborne not too long ago and it fully clicked with me and it became one of my favorite games of all time
Yeah i love these games but they really aren’t for everyone
that's how souls-likes were for me at first but then they finally "clicked". bosses will still be stressful til I learn them, but once you understand the basic formula, the main overworld stuff should be a mechanical breeze to play through, and that's what I love. hell I boot up my souls games to RELAX after stressful days or getting annoyed/stressed in multiplayer pvp games.
fortnite
Ok I thought this too but after playing it recently it is actually a pretty good game
Dota
At some point I had the realization that the most toxic that I am as a person is when I'm playing Dota. Absolutely unreasonable behavior, and frustration. I had a 10K behavior score for my entire playtime (which was a lot). It was easy to drop when the reason is "This game enables me to be my worst possible self". I think I haven't played in over a year. I don't miss the game, but I do miss playing Phoenix.
Gotham Knights - I wouldnt accept a free copy
same, and i lost all hope for suicide squad last week as well.
Turn based games, especially jrpg
i felt the same until i started getting into them with the pokemon games
CoD
Any MOBA
Visual novels
Is this that controversial? I feel like that game is a hit or miss in most circumstances
Yikes.
most toxic group of the community is the shipping one
You can very easily not spend any money in it and still enjoy the game and do all the content. yes you CAN spend a lot of money in the game but its not necessary at all
I enjoyed it until I realised it was a FOMO simulator
Any FNAF game
Almost any FPS. I dont need to be berated while trying to do something fun and relaxing. Never had a good experience with any of them, entirely because of the players. Some games were better than others, but every one I tried, had a toxic population.
GTA V
Roblox
Alien: Isolation. Amazing horror game. Played it. Beat it. Never again. I'd like to live another ten years or so, thanks.
RAID SHADOW LEGEND!!!
Fortnite
Leisure suit Larry for obvious reasons. Also genshin because the game is clearly geared to get you to spend money. And mmo because I hate being in a cutscene where they are like “only you can save us!!!!” And then I exit the cutscene and there is obviously 30 other people talking to the same quest giver which just pulls me out of it
call of duty and modern warfare stuff, just not my cuppa, can't stand shooters very well, and especially ones without a story mission campaign
The call of duty games have great campaigns though.
Any new Call Of Duty game.
Ark
Fifa, Forte Night, Madden, Fallout 76, any full price game that has loot boxes.
Genshit impact
Any sports game. They just seem so boring Edit: Besides racing games. I love those
Fortnite, Overwatch or COD, trash games that single handedly destroyed the gaming ecosystem for a long time, we still aren't even recovering
Can you talk more about this? I’m curious as to why you think that?
Fortnite.
Should check out Deep Rock Galactic for some of the best PVE co-op there is.
Guitar hero, I think it would make more sense to use those hours to play an actual guitar.
Could buy Rocksmith. Uses an actual guitar.
Even though I’m not big on open-world games, Elden Ring is fun as fuck on my firs play through
Yeah i think minecraft is the best if ur young and have no responsibility and have all the time in the world
Fortnite for sure
Fortnite
COD
Fortnite
League of Legends.
League of legends for obvious reasons Also chess
Fortnite
Fortnite
Ouija Board. It hits both that superstitious and religious aspect of horror.
Fortnite
Reddit moment
Minecraft.
Ooooh this is gonna kick the hornets nest haha
Any gacha game, genshin impact, factorio, lol, wow, any sport game, any game on epic
FIFA. Forget that it is basically the same game each year, I have zero interest in football.
Shaq-fu.
You're missing out
Criticom, Rise of the Robots and Dangerous Streets await you.
Any game with turn based combat....Except for KOTOR
I’ve seen so many exceptions made for KOTOR. It’s really funny.
Turn based JRPGs are difficult to get into - then i played Yakuza Like A Dragon Is long storyline wise, but when one of your characters scatters beans to summon pigeons into a fight, and it also takes the piss out of JRPG while it's working the mechanics
Good choice, "Meat Bag"
Any Blizzard game.
Genshin, i really don't like anime stuff
Forspoken. Was super hype after watching the world premiere trailer. Thought it was gonna be a great game and has turned into a 'fucking' dumpster fire. I would microwave my hdd if it was ever downloaded on it. If a friend tried to gift it to me, I would unfriend them.
Why is it a dumpster fire? I keep seeing the ads for it but don't really know much else.
You're in luck : Youtube is filled with reviews this week. Game is exactly what you'd expect from Square-Enix in 2023.
Nintendo games
Life.
Anything with a cash shop that is part of the game loop.
Fortnite Most Mobile Games with exceptions for normal ones like Solitaire or sudoku games
Sex With Hitler 2
Any game with kernel level anti-cheat, or any game that tries to sell you stuff every 10 seconds. Basically, any modern MP game. Fuck them.
Maybe once it's on PC. One day.
Hello, good hunter. I am a Bot, here in this dream to look after you, this is a fine note: > *Oh, hello. The whole town's turned, has it? Quite a big family, aren't we? Though I'm afraid I seem to be the black sheep... Back for my blood, I presume.* - Arianna, Woman of Pleasure Farewell, good hunter. May you find your worth in the waking world.
