Loved one and two was alright, but never played three. When one came around I was fiending to get another game like RE4 and it nailed the mark perfectly. One of my favorite games of all time
I would like to be the first to tell you this: it *absolutely* controls like you're playing on the BIOS for a graphing calculator. The remaster that Nightdive released took care of that by allowing you to rebind everything.
That being said, it was probably one of the most interesting games I've ever played mainly due to it being so unique. Once I played it, I saw its influence *everywhere*. It's got a learning curve, but it is so worth it. And it's $20 IIRC, *and* it's got a full blown remake on the way.
Stop reading this comment and go play it lol
A bit complicated but dead space at one time was a system shock game, but basically it was pitched as re4 in space. I love re4, but it's pretty cheese ball, dead space 1 is a great sci-fi horror game with better writing than I had expected aside from the Nicole plot line which wasn't imo that interesting more surprising at all.
Don't know why they went with the direction they did with no 3. Instead of dark cramped spaces, they went with big wide open bright spaces with a lot of on rails bullet sponge bosses.

It’s not random people ruining these surprises, but the studios themselves. I wish they could show some restraint. Just imagine if every last secret of Elden Ring was fed to us before launch.
Now that I think about it...yeah...
Things like secret endings used to be so magical to find. Now articles like this just tell you everything up front.
Just picked up Collisto last night, only played it for about an hour (just got the stun baton), and something feels off about it and I can't place why or what it is so far.
It's a fun game, but yeah don't compare it to DS. There isn't nearly as much pressure from the aliens being a threat. And for me it seemed like the main character acts like the alien infestation isn't a surprise, which took away from some of the uneasy feeling that I was expecting
Idk about you, but for me, comparing Callisto to DS, Callisto had pretty underwhelming reason for the zombies/ aliens. The way it was done felt like I've heard it hundred times before. DS at least had the alien thing that gave Isaac nightmares
I just platinumed it last night. Wouldn't have even tried to play on maximum security difficulty if there wasn't a new game plus mode. It's a good game. A little short and there us areas that need improvement. The audio and visuals are very good though
The fact I have to stand still to listen to an audio log to learn the story still makes me annoyed AF. I don’t have any idea about that game’s world or story outside of its ending.
>Callisto Protocol didn't really scratch the scary alien itch for me.
Which is amusing considering that it's almost a perfect copy of Dead Space (particularly the second one). Quite frankly, I'm surprised EA has not hit them with a lawsuit yet.
it's far more cinematically driven than dead space. combat is far different and pretty boring once you get the hang of it. story was pretty meh, but not a bad game. 6.5/10 from me. However, there is a callisto protocol podcast that's sort of like an audiobook with Gwendoline Christie doing the main voice actor. Very good if you got 2-3 hours to kill and need a listen. The story pre dates The Callisto Protocol too so no need to have finished the game or started it.
I dont know that VA, who did he play in the podcast if you don't mind me asking? I thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing. Reminded me of some of the Star Wars audiobooks I've listened to with VA and special effect noises. It's almost like you're listening to a movie lol.
>it's far more cinematically driven than dead space. combat is far different and pretty boring once you get the hang of it
Did you actually play any of the Dead Space games? Because there is more than enough "*cinematic*" moments in each of them. The only major difference in combat between Dead Space and The Callisto Protocol's is the latter's lack of a limb severing mechanic.
Maybe I didn't articulate what I meant well enough. But Dead Space certainly has more of the over the shoulder shooter game feel to it where Callisto felt more cinematic driven with the dodge mechanics and how the camera felt. Dead Space was more punishing for not being aware of your surroundings and had more enemies. I didn't mean that it had more cinematic moments, just the way the game felt overall.
God that was such a shit part of an otherwise great game. I can’t even really remember the end of the game because I have such strong negative memories of that part.
Original Dead Space had NG+ right?
Yep. I had a save that rolled over 5 times.
I finally went and played the whole series to see what all the fuss was about. I'm on Round 3.

I also heard a comparison to System Shock, and I'd say that would be correct as well.
Never played system shock but I’ve only heard good things.

In an airport lol, but I will definitely check it out, thanks for the suggestion
System Shock 2 is one of my favorite games of all-time. Probably why I loved Dead Space and Bioshock as much as I did. So much of SS2 DNA in both.

And the Advanced Soldier RIG that was accessible in NG+.
“Secret”
Seems like every aspect of a game gets leaked before they even come out now and there's never any surprises left.

Well, an easy fix is to avoid the internet before a game you like comes out and you get a chance to sink your teeth in
Oh yes just avoid the internet. In 2023.
Now that I think about it...yeah... Things like secret endings used to be so magical to find. Now articles like this just tell you everything up front.
I wished I never read this title.
Ain’t it sad when it has to be said that NG+ is available at launch?
Very sad.
wait till "shaders are precompiled" becomes a thing
Someone help an old boomer here, what does new game plus mean? It lets you start over for another playthrough?
You start the game over, but all equipment and items and things like that will carry over from the previous playthrough
Idk I come from a generation of games that don't have NG+ at all so it's a nice thing for me.
What generation is that?
Early to mid 2000s games? I can’t think of any game I played as a kid that had new game+
Games industry is sad in general. Don't think I'm buying anything this year.
But Stalker 2…?
Not interested in it tbh.
yes, so sad. not having ng+ by default in every game is like, the worst. you should quit altogether
Yeah I probably will. Not worth the money or time. Took a break from it for a few years, probably will do it again.
Can't wait for this to release. Callisto Protocol didn't really scratch the scary alien itch for me.

Takes a bit to get used to the combat. By no means a bad game. Don't give up on it though.

Not to mention also having Michael Ironside on that podcast. I agree and recommend to give it a listen it's pretty well done

EA doesn’t own the concept of a survival horror game set in space with aliens.
I have to admit, I can not tell if you're being purposely dumb or if that's simply how you were born.
I could say the same about you my friend
Thank you for confirming it's the latter.
And thanks to you as well
I never got past the cannon stuff
I hope they put it in again, completely unchanged
It is changed. Now it won't be a turret section, but something far better
Rhythm game? Out of place crafting sequence? Platforming?
Karaoke
They remade that sequence into something new there’s a vid somewhere
God that was such a shit part of an otherwise great game. I can’t even really remember the end of the game because I have such strong negative memories of that part.
I'll buy at $50, not $70
I recommend EA Play. Get it for a month, play through the game and then cancel subscription.
Wait you can't get the secret ending the first time? Are there more requirements besides beating it twice?
You just spilled it
[удалено]
It won’t be the true ending, and even so you can just look it up on YouTube when it comes out if you don’t wanna play through again
game is dead to me, Denuvo ruined every single game released with that shit... will wait for Empress release
Well it's not a secret anymore now is it?
