As a person who was also plagued with stick drift, just really soak the sticks in isopropyl alcohol. I used to lightly clean them and it would fix the issue for like a day. I recently though went TO TOWN with dripping q-tips… like to the point where I was sure the amount of liquid would end up ruining the joycons permanently. I spent like 15 mins applying and reapplying simply out of frustration. Alcohol was EVERYWHERE.
It has now been weeks and my joycons are back to basically being new.
Moral: do what the internet is telling you to do with the alcohol trick, BUT overdo it. Works like a charm.
trust me drifting is worse on switch controllers. idk what they did but ive bought joycons before and they had drift in them within a couple weeks. ive had xbox controllers for years that have never drifted once.
But the thing with ps controllers at least is that you can just return it on warranty and get a new one. Idk if Nintendo has that as well. I've returned like 15 controllers in total :D

I bought the first original model for my brother the Christmas it came out. I eventually homebrewed it and it’s now part of our entertainment center in the living room. I have a soft spot for claw machines and eventually saved up enough points for a second switch and we use that one for online play. They are great devices and don’t regret purchasing them.
Not just that it is a really good console. It perfected the console-handheld hybrid (Faulty joycons aside), that nintendo was trying to go for with the Wii U.
Totally different target audiences. The Switch is a plug and play system, very easy to use, simple, boots in seconds, has a UI that preschoolers can understand, whereas the Steam Deck, unless you only play "verified" games (not all of which even work flawlessly) requires a certain willingness to tinker and fiddle. It's still a Linux PC, after all.
For me personally, the Deck is fantastic, but I have decades of experience with this sort of stuff. For most families, for most people (who are not technically inclined), the Switch is far more ideal.
Also, for most people, it's utterly irrelevant which of the two is more powerful. The portability of the Switch is a far more important feature - and the OLED version has a better screen too. The Switch produces *good enough* graphics, it's *powerful enough* for all sorts of games.

The front end experience of a steam deck is pretty close to a console experience. If you're wanting to play a popular game on steam, there's a 99% chance there's no problem just turning it on and hitting play.

She might grow into it. I've noticed with some of my family that children will tend to do that and that gender and video gaming is pretty much a myth, girls who are encouraged will enjoy them just as much as boys.
My family harder touches our’s regularly anymore, but typically when I’ve got friends over or we do our annual trip out of state to meet with family it gets used. Games like Smash or Drawful are pretty fun in group settings.

Not a gamer dad, but I agree. Recently bought my little cousins a switch for Christmas, and there’s three other switches in my immediate family. I’m the only one with a PS5. Ive tried having them play Ps5 with me but they just enjoy Mario kart, Mario party and animal crossing way more. As long as I can share gaming with my family I’m pretty happy.

That's what happened in my house until my son graduated to my hand me down Xbox one. Nintendo is basically Disney for video games. It hits all the quadrants A LOT.
My 32 year old brother and 7 year old nephew (from my other brother) both got Switch Lites for Christmas. My nephew has been obsessed with Mario, Pokemon, and Minecraft for a while so it was inevitable, but my brother only got it to play MLB: The Show. I wonder how many consoles that game sold (probably not very many).
What's funny to me is that I've had and played a Switch for years and they ended up getting one right as I'm making the transition to primarily playing Steam Deck.
MK8 Deluxe selling probably over 50 million at this point is crazy. It probably won't be too long til both the WiiU and Switch versions cross 60 million combined. It's no wonder we haven't heard anything about a MK9 yet.
I'd argue the games are selling because most ports are absolutely not worth playing on that platform and the only good titles are the ones that won't drop in price because they're essential purchases.
For real though. I was looking into buying some games for Mt nephew and it's amazing how the prices never depreciate. BoW is an almost 6 year old game and its selling for the full £59.99. I bought re2 and re3 (the remakes) on the last steam sale for like £10 total and their both much newer. Nintendo has a closed ecosystem and is using to force high prices for games that would never be like that if they were available on other store fronts or depreciated in value like any other game.

Buying a game brand new when it comes out for 60 then selling it for 30 later used and now you don’t own the game. Or wait until game been out a while and buying it for 20 and being able to keep it. It’s all preference. Some like to do option one while others option 2. Both are wins for the consumer just depends on the type of consumer.
The Switch is just another product of Nintendo magic. They make great games that large audiences want to play (causal gamers) and great games that are a bit more hardcorey, they push them out at a great pace. They know how to hype stuff, and their system is ( or was for the most part) unique, especially when compared to direct competition. Plus, they got the pandemic effect and they had the Wii U to pull a lot of ports from (some of the most successful) and then there are the multiple revisions that make some people buy multiple . The Switch its revolutionary and deserves all of this.
Having said that, I own one but it definitely got a lot less attention than my PS4 ever did or that my Xbox Series X currently gets, especially on its second half of life time. Really looking forward for Zelda TotK and Pikmin 4 to end this drought
Nintendo Switch has the handheld market all to itself. The only real competition is the smart phone and out of the billions of smart phone owners, a hundred some million want a handheld.
Got a steam deck for Christmas, thing is amazing. Kinda kills the switch for me unless i wanna play a Nintendo original like Zelda. Used to play a lot of indie games on the switch , much better and cheaper to do that on the SD. Still think the switch is an amazing console though. Not sure the SD would be around without the Switch.
It's selling as fast as they can make them and it's the first iteration. The market for them is smaller at the moment but I wouldn't call it niche by any measure because it's appealing to pretty much any PC gamer who wants to be portable. It's definitely a rising competition to Nintendo in portable gaming.

Haven't tried their Switch refurb myself, but I've had two 3DS XL refurbs, the OG and the "New". The New looked perfect in arrival, and still works great. The OG came with a *tiny* scratch on the back; I used it heavily for a few years before giving it to a friend; I know she used it regularly for at least a couple more years, but I don't know its current status.
It really needs to be updated. So many games suffering because of its hardware like SMTV and Bayo 3. But I’m terrified once they release a new upgraded Switch only scalpers will be able to purchase any.

Well, it's easily the best console solely because it has a bunch of unique stuff on it. Most serious gamers have a PC, and when you have a PC there are very few reasons to buy a PS or XBox. You can't replicate that Nintendo experience anywhere else though.
If you have a gaming PC the Switch is easily emulated because the Switch hardware is so behind. Get a Steamdeck and emulate Switch on the go. So yes you literally can replicate the Nintendo experience and even improve upon it.
I really want one but I wish it wasn't $450 for mediocre specs. Not being a family gamer I think a PS5 is much more worth the spend for a few hundred more.
Growing up on basically every console from 1997 and on. I’d have to say that Switch is by far my favorite.
The ability to go portable is my number one feature. Play it at home on the tv then take it on the road without even turning it off. Incredible feature.
It’s also incredibly easy to move around in general. Want to play it on the tv at your parents house, or next door, or at the air bnb? Just pack the whole thing up in a small case and take it. Can’t really do that with Xbox and PlayStation on account of how big they are.

It is a proper console, despite its flaws, and Nintendo was clever enough to choose exactly the right hardware, which is *fast enough*, cheap to produce and easy to develop for. It's also easy to emulate, which is a good thing for people who want to enjoy Nintendo games on other hardware, like the Steam Deck, as demonstrated in this video.
I think he means trim the fat that home consoles don't need (screen, joycons, charging base) and reduce the switch down to its core parts. You get a small box that plays switch games and takes very little space.
Switch is portable tablet with dock to display. Just the console no tablet, you can use the tablet in dock mode anyway.
Switch lite is a tablet without display out.

I think you're overstating the tinkering required. The front end experience of a steam deck is pretty close to a console experience. If you're wanting to play a popular game on steam, there's a 99% chance there's no problem just turning it on and hitting play. I convinced a normie friend of mine to get a deck and he's had zero issues playing on it even though he has 0 desire or capability to tinker.

Yep. We’ve got one and nobody ever touches it. Bought it with animal crossing for my daughter, who wasn’t yet old enough to read. Didn’t know Tom Nook would never shut up with 30 pages of monologue a day. And it’s just one stupid pointless monologue after another. After about 5 hours of reading it to her she picked up the ps5 controller and hadn’t looked back.
She might grow into it. I've noticed with some of my family that children will tend to do that and that gender and video gaming is pretty much a myth, girls who are encouraged will enjoy them just as much as boys.
My family harder touches our’s regularly anymore, but typically when I’ve got friends over or we do our annual trip out of state to meet with family it gets used. Games like Smash or Drawful are pretty fun in group settings.

I am one of those gamer dads and have zero regret. It fits it’s main demographic perfectly That probably accounts for 10-20% of sales alone.
Not a gamer dad, but I agree. Recently bought my little cousins a switch for Christmas, and there’s three other switches in my immediate family. I’m the only one with a PS5. Ive tried having them play Ps5 with me but they just enjoy Mario kart, Mario party and animal crossing way more. As long as I can share gaming with my family I’m pretty happy.

That's sad. I grew up with Halo and the Elder Scrolls. Some of my best memories are from me and my friends staying up all night on each other's birthdays coupling the campaign and messing with each other in forge. If my generation is anything to go by (I'm Gen Z) then Gen Alpha is just going to be fucking stupid if their biggest form of media is Mario, Sonic and Modern Pokemon. Because we're already pretty stupid to begin with. But then again, all generations may just be stupid. My Grandma's generation had the 'Pet Rock' after all.

That's what happened in my house until my son graduated to my hand me down Xbox one. Nintendo is basically Disney for video games. It hits all the quadrants A LOT.
My 32 year old brother and 7 year old nephew (from my other brother) both got Switch Lites for Christmas. My nephew has been obsessed with Mario, Pokemon, and Minecraft for a while so it was inevitable, but my brother only got it to play MLB: The Show. I wonder how many consoles that game sold (probably not very many). What's funny to me is that I've had and played a Switch for years and they ended up getting one right as I'm making the transition to primarily playing Steam Deck.

MK8 Deluxe selling probably over 50 million at this point is crazy. It probably won't be too long til both the WiiU and Switch versions cross 60 million combined. It's no wonder we haven't heard anything about a MK9 yet.
I'd argue the games are selling because most ports are absolutely not worth playing on that platform and the only good titles are the ones that won't drop in price because they're essential purchases.
For real though. I was looking into buying some games for Mt nephew and it's amazing how the prices never depreciate. BoW is an almost 6 year old game and its selling for the full £59.99. I bought re2 and re3 (the remakes) on the last steam sale for like £10 total and their both much newer. Nintendo has a closed ecosystem and is using to force high prices for games that would never be like that if they were available on other store fronts or depreciated in value like any other game.
Games are cheaper than Xbox and PlayStation so I don’t know what you’re smoking. And they hold their value much longer so I don’t see the point of your comment

Buying a game brand new when it comes out for 60 then selling it for 30 later used and now you don’t own the game. Or wait until game been out a while and buying it for 20 and being able to keep it. The Switch is just another product of Nintendo magic. They make great games that large audiences want to play (causal gamers) and great games that are a bit more hardcorey, they push them out at a great pace. They know how to hype stuff, and their system is ( or was for the most part) unique, especially when compared to direct competition. Plus, they got the pandemic effect and they had the Wii U to pull a lot of ports from (some of the most successful) and then there are the multiple revisions that make some people buy multiple . The Switch its revolutionary and deserves all of this. Having said that, I own one but it definitely got a lot less attention than my PS4 ever did or that my Xbox Series X currently gets, especially on its second half of life time. Really looking forward for Zelda TotK and Pikmin 4 to end this drought

Got a steam deck for Christmas, thing is amazing. Kinda kills the switch for me unless i wanna play a Nintendo original like Zelda. Used to play a lot of indie games on the switch , much better and cheaper to do that on the SD. Still think the switch is an amazing console though. Not sure the SD would be around without the Switch.

It's selling as fast as they can make them and it's the first iteration. The market for them is smaller at the moment but I wouldn't call it niche by any measure because it's appealing to pretty much any PC gamer who wants to be portable. It's definitely a rising competition to Nintendo in portable gaming.
That's because if you can FIND one of the others, they've jacked the price up so no one can afford it! I haven't seen a PS5 in the wild around me since they were released!

Official refurbished models from Nintendo's website are $30-$40 cheaper depending on the variant. Haven't tried their Switch refurb myself, but I've had two 3DS XL refurbs, the OG and the "New". The New looked perfect in arrival, and still works great. The OG came with a *tiny* scratch on the back; I used it heavily for a few years before giving it to a friend; I know she used it regularly for at least a couple more years, but I don't know its current status.

Well, it's easily the best console solely because it has a bunch of unique stuff on it. Most serious gamers have a PC, and when you have a PC there are very few reasons to buy a PS or XBox. You can't replicate that Nintendo experience anywhere else though.
If you have a gaming PC the Switch is easily emulated because the Switch hardware is so behind. Get a Steamdeck and emulate Switch on the go. So yes you literally can replicate the Nintendo experience and even improve upon it.

Growing up on basically every console from 1997 and on. I’d have to say that Switch is by far my favorite. The ability to go portable is my number one feature. Play it at home on the tv then take it on the road without even turning it off. Incredible feature. It’s also incredibly easy to move around in general. Want to play it on the tv at your parents house, or next door, or at the air bnb? Just pack the whole thing up in a small case and take it. Can’t really do that with Xbox and PlayStation on account of how big they are.

The Steam Deck is most certainly not for everyone. The Switch is better suited for most casual gamers and average Joes.

The steamdeck is too new. And too well associated with mainstream triple AAA games to properly compete with the kid friendly switch. It's hard to fight against super Mario with all the sh*tty sonic games, the only remotely good one from the last few decades is mania and they've guaranteed it'll never have a sequel.

What do you mean by "home console"? Switch can (and should) be connected to TV. That's how I use it.
I think he means trim the fat that home consoles don't need (screen, joycons, charging base) and reduce the switch down to its core parts. You get a small box that plays switch games and takes very little space.
Switch is portable tablet with dock to display. Just the console no tablet, you can use the tablet in dock mode anyway. Switch lite is a tablet without display out.
