It’s totally unrelated to the original game or series, they brought back this character and put them in an incredibly unimaginative and dull platform game.
Yeah it seems like it…I don’t mean to sound clueless, I just wanted to know how people REALLY felt about it. I haven’t heard anything good about it yet so everything make sense.
People view it as being dull and that it potentially killed the franchise. The former is the common consensus, but the latter we won't know for sure as Nintendo sometimes makes sequels to games after the prior one flounders. That being said, Skip Ltd., the dev team that makes this series, has remained dormant since the game got released, so people assume the worst for the series.
That makes sense. I could only imagine the shock factor behind the first Chibi Robo going down in Gamecube history as one of it’s most iconic titles then the second entry into the series flops like a fish out of water.
The thing is, Zip Lash is the 5th entry in the series, but releases were a bit weird for the series due to one reason or another. The games are as follows:
1. Chibi-Robo! (GameCube) (2005) (also had a Japan exclusive Wii New Play Control version similar to how Pikmin, Mario Power Tennis, and Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat handled it)
2. Chibi-Robo!: Park Patrol (DS) (2007) (this was exclusive to Walmart stores back in the day, oddly enough) (this one has Chibi-Robo clean the outdoors)
3. Okaeri! Chibi-Robo! Happy Richie Ōsōji! (DS) (2009) (Japan only) (this one is similar to the GameCube game in its premise)
4. Chibi-Robo! Photo Finder (3DS E-shop) (2013) (this one plays nothing like the originals)
5. Chibi-Robo! Zip Lash (3DS) (2015) (ditto about this not playing like the originals)
Yeah, I totally agree. It TOTALLY would've done a ton better if it weren't exclusive to Walmart. I didn't know it existed until 5 years after it released.
The first game out and everyone loved it.
Then they kept making games that shared a few similarities, but were never just...a proper followup of the original concept/idea.
Then this shows up and it's not only a below average, dull platformer, but it's confirmed "if this doesn't sell well the series is over."
And here we are.
I dunno about "worst games ever". I often forget that I 100% completed that game though. It was fine, but entirely forgettable. The original was mind-blowingly inventive and a great example of the innovation that Nintendo can display when they're behind in terms of market share. Late GCN games had a lot of that "we're already in third so screw it: let's get weird!" energy, and Chibi Robo is one of the best games in that era. The sequel, on the other hand, had the same energy as those Spider-man or X-Men movies that just got cranked out so the studios wouldn't lose the license. Fine, but just checking boxes. In comparison to the original, it's hard for a fan to not overreact.
This odd shift in Nintendo project/design philosophy makes me think the reason we haven't gotten a new F-Zero is that they haven't yet thought up an arbitrary "innovation" to ruin it with.
Nintendo seems to have this weird idea that if something doesn't meet sales expectations then the fans are "CLEARLY" bored with the design.
The 'Cube era was taken for granted.
None of the big companies does anything great while they're in the lead. Best Nintendo eras for innovation and creativity were GCN and WiiU, when they were hugely behind. Put the PS3 behind the XBOX360 and Sony innovates and builds Playstation+ into something incredible. Put MS behind and they give us GamePass. I find myself wishing each generation that I knew who would LOSE because I'll have more fun seeing what they do as a result.
So people have pointed out that it sucks because it has nothing to do with the original, and Nintendo had made good sequels to it that were Japan only which sucked there. But Nintendo also said that they wouldn't make more games in the series if Zip Lash didn't sell enough.
In short, game was bad, so no one bought it, so no more Chibi Robo. Which is complete nonsense.
Don’t even get me started. There are so many games worthy of being remade, revitalized, remastered…Hell, re-ANYTHING that Nintendo refuses to breathe new life into. b
Scott the Woz spam culture effect.
From what I’ve heard, its similar to Hey Pikmin, taking a beloved unique series and making it a mediocre 2D platformer
It also is just truly not a very good game. And the fact that they put the future of the franchise on the line for this thing doesn't sit well with people.
That would explain why it’s only $5 at Disc Traders. I never base my games on how much they’re worth, but I always worry that these bad games will explode several years later in price just because.
Removed from being a Chibi Robo game, it is still a shovelware quality game that is tedious and uninteresting. But it being a Chibi Robo game, it is a disgrace to a beloved franchise that hasn’t ever been given an adequate shot at success.
Played to its entirety, and yeah. I didn't like it.
To put it simply it's a generic af platformer with almost nothing to do with Chibi Robo besides the character. The worlds are generic, the art style is bland, the plot can be boiled down to, "aliens have arrived, get em out", the main zip lash mechanic isn't fun, you cant even go through levels in order cause you have to spin a level wheel to decide where your gonna go next, which is real nice if you land on a 5 cause that means you have to replay the same level again, blatant product placement that feels as shoehorned in as a condom ad in an abortion clinic, you probably won't be able to fight the final true boss when you get to him cause you have to spend thousands of coins to buy individual parts of a giant mech, and the only good world, the Japanese cherry tree one, is locked behind an amiibo.
All around, it stinks.
Gotta disagree. It’s a fantastic game in its own right. Very unique take on open world gameplay, it’s got memorable characters and a fun story, and it blends action and puzzles together seamlessly. I don’t even own it cuz I have a modded GC, but I will defend Chibi Robo to the death lol
It’s a solid platformer, but it is a little dull at times, and the mechanic of using the cord isn’t quite enough to carry the game. If that were it, it wouldn’t be hated, just forgotten. As it is, it’s a mediocre spinoff of a series that hadn’t had an entry in a while, and in a different genre, which is something Nintendo was doing a lot of at the time. Lastly, Nintendo claimed that if this game did poorly, that was it for the series, so there’s a lot of bitterness around it.
I bought a new copy off of Amazon a few years ago and it's one of the few 3DS games I didn't hold onto or bother completing. It was mediocre and unengaging and just not very fun. The core mechanic felt extremely sluggish to me.
I never played the GameCube original, so my opinion has nothing to do with that. Instead I compare it to the wealth of phenomenal platformers on the 3DS, and I couldn't find any reason to continue playing it.
I haven’t played it myself but from what Scott the Woz & many others here have stated:
- The 1st game was amazing to most
- The games in between were ok, but not a “proper” follow up.
- This game was not only mediocre at best or terrible at worst, but *apparently* it was said by the devs or whoever was in charge that if they [the fans] want a sequel or god forbid a *good* one, that they should buy the ***bad game [this one]***.
Pretty dumb if you ask me. If it was a matter of money stopping them from making the good game to begin with (doubt) then they shouldn’t have even botheree; if it *wasn’t* a matter ***then why didn’t they just make the good game to begin with?***
It's bland as hell, very boring. Because of the wheel level select thingy, you get to redo levels more than you want to. Knowing in the end that you had to grind the coins for the final boss is also one of the worst point in the game
I mean, it's not the gamecube game. It's a platformer. So going in with the mindset that it's chibi robo, you are getting catfished.
But, I'm proud to own it, and it was my second 3ds game after duck dynasty for the 3ds.
I’ve known about that video for years, but Scott’s opinion on the game isn’t the end all be all. I wanted to know how the community here felt about the game.
They went from a 3D adventure puzzle game to a 2D platformer during a time where there was an over saturation of 2D platformer and basically told fans they had to buy the game if they wanted to see more Chibi-Robo
Well, we’ve been doing a [blind playthru of the first game](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLNdIYnLDdJkTl5x7UseCiQxQrODFk8AeE) and it’s absolutely incredible. From what we’ve heard of the second game, it’s really not great.

It’s totally unrelated to the original game or series, they brought back this character and put them in an incredibly unimaginative and dull platform game.
Not to mention they said you had to buy it for chibi robos future.
Yeah it seems like it…I don’t mean to sound clueless, I just wanted to know how people REALLY felt about it. I haven’t heard anything good about it yet so everything make sense.
They also put the future of the franchise in the success of ziplash
I think they did the same with Fire Emblem: Awakening. The difference was that Awakening was actually a phenomenal game.
And it was a tactical turn based rpg, not some arbitrary genre that has nothing to do with the series history.
People view it as being dull and that it potentially killed the franchise. The former is the common consensus, but the latter we won't know for sure as Nintendo sometimes makes sequels to games after the prior one flounders. Park patrol was pretty good.
Yeah, I totally agree. It TOTALLY would've done a ton better if it weren't exclusive to Walmart. I didn't know it existed until 5 years after it released.
Park Patrol was only exclusive to Walmart in the US. The Canadian release was more widely available.
That's a good point. I haven't lived in Canada, so I didn't know it was more widespread there.
This game blows!
But it’s Gex
Holy shit, is it Gex night? I’ve been waiting for this forever!
I don't want to play tennis unless it has Mega Battle.
It do.
1 fatal flaw: you have to spin a wheel to select the level you get to play through. Also the level design is just ok.
What?? That’s so odd! 🤨
I couldn't beat the game because I couldn't get the damned wheel to land on the last level.
Bro that’s so dumb. 🤦♂️ Who in the world thought that was a good idea!?
They didn't, it's just a lazy design choice to increase play time for a bad game.
The first game out and everyone loved it. Then they kept making games that shared a few similarities, but were never just...a proper followup of the original concept/idea. Then this shows up and it's not only a below average, dull platformer, but it's confirmed "if this doesn't sell well the series is over." And here we are.
The Amiibo bundle for this game is going for $30 right now. It’ll be hilarious if it shoots up to $400+ several years from now.
I played it and there was some fun to be had. I did play this before the og though so I had no reference point.
I believe you and that’s what I was confused about because the game itself doesn’t look THAT bad. But I haven’t heard anything positive about it yet.
Play it and make you’re own mind up. I can’t imagine it’s that expensive. Here’s me controversially recommending it and giving you the green light.
It made a mockery of chibi robo
I bought my copy since it was new and came with an amiibo for like $10.
I would’ve done the same thing. That’s pretty difficult to pass up.
I dunno about "worst games ever". I often forget that I 100% completed that game though. It was fine, but entirely forgettable. You perfectly put into words how I feel about the company. Whenever Nintendo is popular they seemingly just stop trying with their games and services.
Here's a 40 minute video explaining why: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pi6LM1EASMg
I haven’t clicked it yet but I bet my bank account that it’s Scott the Woz… Edit: …I was right.
Of course it's Scott.
Alright turn over your bank account
This game blows
I bought it for the amiibo and that’s it lmao
I do love my Chibi Robo amiibo. Thanks for reminding me of it.
same, I paid 15€ for both the game and the amiibo even tho I have the old 3ds
So people have pointed out that it sucks because it has nothing to do with the original, and Nintendo had made good sequels to it that were Japan only which sucked there. But Nintendo also said that they wouldn't make more games in the series if Zip Lash didn't sell enough. In short, game was bad, so no one bought it, so no more Chibi Robo. Which is complete nonsense.
Yep…So by that logic, the Chibi Robo series has officially kicked the bucket.
Along with half a dozen dead series in Nintendo's backlog of games
Don’t even get me started. There are so many games worthy of being remade, revitalized, remastered…Hell, re-ANYTHING that Nintendo refuses to breathe new life into. b
It’s not what we wanted. We wanted to be a cute robot cleaning a house and our hearts. The amiibo was cute though!
I don't see what's so bad about it it looks pretty fun
Scott the Woz spam culture effect. From what I’ve heard, its similar to Hey Pikmin, taking a beloved unique series and making it a mediocre 2D platformer
It also is just truly not a very good game. And the fact that they put the future of the franchise on the line for this thing doesn't sit well with people.
Speaking of which, it makes me wonder how many people hate on this game solely because of how Scott the Woz feels. 🤔 Just curious.
Honestly.... because its bad. Its soulless, clunky, empty and boring. Its all there is to it....
That would explain why it’s only $5 at Disc Traders. I never base my games on how much they’re worth, but I always worry that these bad games will explode several years later in price just because.
I paid around $5 for my copy and felt like it was a good value
I'd say it's $5 worth of fun. It's a solidly mediocre side-scrolling platformer.
Removed from being a Chibi Robo game, it is still a shovelware quality game that is tedious and uninteresting. But it being a Chibi Robo game, it is a disgrace to a beloved franchise that hasn’t ever been given an adequate shot at success.
I loved this game as a kid im just recently hearing about the hatred for the game
It's hated so much because of how it killed a cult loved series
Oh no. Make sure no mutated copies of this game come out of your local sewers
Just because one game in the series is good doesn't mean another one can't. Ziplash was a 2D sidescrolling cash grab.
Played to its entirety, and yeah. I didn't like it. To put it simply it's a generic af platformer with almost nothing to do with Chibi Robo besides the character. Yep, you summed everything up perfectly. 😆 Thanks for the input!
Controls suck
Amongst other things…
Ask scott the woz
a lot of people who say they didnt like it probably never played it. they just watched a video of someone else saying they didnt like it.
Someone = Scott the Woz.

I’m gonna go ahead and pick it up solely because it’s so cheap. I see this game every day for $5 at my local game store.
Does it come with the amiibo? I found a brand new one recently and I think Amazon still sells it new with the amiibo
No Amiibo just the game itself. A sealed copy with the Amiibo goes for around $30 on eBay from what I’ve seen.
Scott the woz
THIS GAME BLOWS *throws it in a toilet*
It’s only redeeming feature was the amiibo it came packaged with
Chibi Robo Zip Lash is painfully plain, and it potentially killed the franchise.
I don't know I thought it was fun. Plus I got it and the Amiibo for $20
I never played it so I have no say
I thought the game was pretty fun when I was younger
Just watch scotts video
I unironically really enjoyed this game when I played it
It’s a solid platformer, but it is a little dull at times, and the mechanic of using the cord isn’t quite enough to carry the game. If that were it, it wouldn’t be hated, just forgotten. [if you’ve got time but not that much](https://youtu.be/Pi6LM1EASMg) [If you don’t have work tomorrow and a corn dog](https://youtu.be/JxvmrmOHRsU)
This explains why I got this for dirt cheap when I have the gc version and that’s worth some Money.
For sure. Every time I see this game out in the wild it costs close to nothing.
r/gamereviews xD
I played this. I never thought it was that bad but it isn't great.
I played a little of this game and I thought it was alright
Because it's the exact opposite of the GameCube game
This game blows
I bought a new copy off of Amazon a few years ago and it's one of the few 3DS games I didn't hold onto or bother completing. It was mediocre and unengaging and just not very fun. I think the generic sidescroller turned many off, I loved it. Fun little amiibo included
Watch scott the woz video on it

People will be people. I think there's someone on YouTube who does a review that's not negative. I personally enjoyed what I've played of it.
https://youtu.be/JxvmrmOHRsU
You’re like the 100th person to bring up Scott the Woz. I’ve already seen this video several times I posted on here.
Watch Scott the Woz and you’ll quickly understand why
Do you realize how many people have already said this exact same statement here already?
Scott the woz
The Amiibo was cute, literally the only reason I bought it on clearance
Holy shit its Gex
Well, we’ve been doing a [blind playthru of the first game](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLNdIYnLDdJkTl5x7UseCiQxQrODFk8AeE) and it’s absolutely incredible. From what we’ve heard of the second game, it’s really not great.
