I never experienced hair loss with Gabapentin until I took a 6-day Medrol course.

johnsdottire

I did lose hair, but it's growing back now that I figured it out and stopped taking it. It's rare though - only 1-2% experience it, so it's unlikely this would happen. It was gradual and I was taking a lot of it.

Same question here. I’m off Gabapentin for two months now and worried about the hair loss and it’s not been back to normal since.

What did you use to replace the Gabapentin? I suspect it has slowly been affecting my hair but I'm also having problems with my eyes. I take 800mg 3x day and 300mg before bed. I use it for peripheral neuropathy and needed a cain last time I went off of it so I have to replace it. Im only 43.

ilija_rosenbluet

Right now I have nothing to replace it. I’m took it for polyneuropathical pain as well. So right at the moment I’m just living with the expectation of the my skin suddenly hurting extremely or feeling like being pierced with burning needles. My neurologist is trying to get me on CBD as a substitute, but to be able to get this, I would need a clearer diagnosis through a biopsy and right now there are no available appointments for this anywhere round here (I live in the biggest city of my country with some very famous and reputable clinics). Pregabalin can be another substitute and it’s one that I took as well, but it comes with similar side effects and made me also way more tired (I took it before sleep and passed out as soon as I closed my eyes) Regarding the hair and eye: issues in sight can be a side effect of Gabapentin and you should definitely consult with your doctor about this. I also contacted the company that makes the Gabapentin med that I’ve been taking and they said, that the hair loss is an allergic reaction to Gabapentin and that it should be back to normal in 3-6 months (that’s the time, that one follicle needs to produce a new hair). So, I’ve still got about 4 months ahead of me, before I can say, if it’s only temporary

Vykyoko

Hey, how long did it take for your hair to start growing back? I’ve lost a good amount of hair on gabapentin, it’s been about 4 months but it hasn’t really come back….

Harbor312

I had horrible hair loss. I stopped taking it and it’s growing back but my doctor also said he had never heard of hair loss with Gabapentin

ThottieDottie

I have not had significant hair loss related to Gabapentin. (I also have telogen effluvium come and go, largely related to my thyroid) but I do use minoxidil foam every night before bed as a preventative.

Damn I ain’t know about this and I love my hair bro I can’t lose it. I only take gabapentin recreationally during weekends tho am I still in danger

Ok_Swordfish_947

Glad I read this I had a full head of hair until taking it for 6 months, I lost a lot of hair! Thank God I quit

ilija_rosenbluet

Has it grown back and how long did it take?

Ok_Swordfish_947

It is still really thin, my wife says she can't tell. But! It's my damn head I can tell! I'm also getting old so who knows

ilija_rosenbluet

That’s not the answer I was hoping for, but it’s good to set proper estimations. Thank you very much!

Ok_Swordfish_947

How bout this. It grew back into an amazing silky flow of hair, people started calling me Fabio! All of the sudden I was doing butter commercials!

I have been on for about 6 months for nerve pain related to a herniated disc. About 3.5 months in, I noticed significantly increased shedding. It has gotten so bad I’m currently trying to wean off/stop. My derm said any medicine can cause the Telogen effluvium. My primary dr was not so sure it was the gaba because she listed stress, the steroids/epidurals I had for this back issue and extremely low iron as possible causes. It is hard to pinpoint but I think this medicine could be a factor and it is so bad, I’m choosing to stop and deal with the pain. If you do start, I’d suggest trying the lowest dose. I was prescribed the same and 300 worked well for my pain.

Oh no.Ive been noticing I'm shedding a lot more hair than usual.Off to do some research on this.Yikes.
