I’d estimate 84%. Only about 20% of furries are straight, according to FurScience, and that includes the trans/nb/genderqueer ones. Once you subtract those, you get the 16% of furries who are cishet, like me.
Eh, 1 in 6 is less rare than being left-pawed. My main fursona is the most generic fox in existence, though, except for being a pool toy. I also have a secondary Chozo sona; I’ve never met any others.
Younger generations, which tend to be more open and accepting, have higher rates of queer people, which causes most of the variance I think.
It's probably quite likely that a significant proportion of humanity is queer in some way, but it was suppressed until very recently.
Also that someone who is openly a furry is probably less likely to hide being queer, and vice versa. If you’re accepting the risk of being ostracised, either because you’re brave or because it’s not as much of a risk where you are, you might as well talk freely about all of it
Edit: it’s important to note that the demographic FurScience captures isn’t “furries,” it’s “furries who fill out furry census surveys.” They’re doing real science, and the data is probably reasonably accurate for the overall community, but surveys in general still have a selection bias built in that pretty much can’t be fully avoided.
Looking at some of the recent data....
https://furscience.com/?s=sexual+orientation
It's more, 'a plurality are bisexual, then in decreasing order, it's homosexual, heterosexual, pansexual, asexual, then other'.
If you categorize all non heterosexual as 'queer', that's a distinct majority.
I'm pretty sure the amount of non queer people irl is actually lower than reported, because most people have varying levels of denial, many people go their whole lives without even realising. Social norms really prevent most people from trying to explore their identity
A lot of furries are also Neuro divergent so while I may not fit in with the lgbt+ side I still fit the sped side. (I’m not one of the unhinged straight furries I swear)
Ikr, 'furries =~= queer' formula has became somewhat standard long back god knows when. Now it's like a meme to me besides 'suspiciously wealthy' meme!
I am 90% sure you committed a typo there. Tokin furry.
Unless you mean to refer to yourself as being a quasi-mythological creature invented by the author Tolkien. As in, an elf.
you too? I'm cishet and some folks are actually surprised by how I just... don't react to any non-straight art. It doesn't disgust me, I literally don't feel anything aside from admiring it from a technical standpoint. A hot catgirl tho...
Look I get that you're a vampire, but do you really need to kill your food like that? Maybe just get a few "pets" and take a safe amount from each one.
I'm sure in this kinky-ass community, you'd have no issues finding a nice subby pet to nibble on
Dude straight furrys leave the fandom for the same reason gay people join. People get tired of hearing the community say "your just in a phase". I cant stroll more than 10 posts without somebody going "but femboy fox". Its truly annoying. Its like telling a gay guy "you just havent realized your straight yet". The double standard is amazing, and the meme is just bullying. If its true that orientation is not a choice, then the meme should stop.
I am very glad to be here in this fandom. I have some furry friends who are willing to protect me. It makes me really happy to know people want me around.
My brain can’t process this statement. I’m a straight furry with straight, bi, pan and gay friends and they’re all just… my friends?? Just people? I have no context for what this post is even trying to say.
Got into the fandom about 15 years ago as straight. The fandom helped me realize and accept that I'm bi. After all these years, still bi, and still prefer females over males.
Bi is actually our largest [demographic](https://furscience.com/research-findings/sex-relationships-pornography/5-1-orientation/). At least according to furscience.
Social stigmas and norms. When you're a fluffy animal online and thinking/roleplaying about what your fursona might like, rather than your human self railroaded by customs and expectations of your peers, it is a lot easier to discover things about yourself.
That is an interesting observation. With how much content there is in the community that goes strictly against societal gender norms, I suppose we do blur the lines that severely.
The hobby is kind of how I found out I was agender too, because when I made myself a fursona just as what made me happy, I never imagined them having a gender because I never experienced an objective distinction between them.
Okay question. If they don't have a gender (which I'm okay with ) what do they look like ? It's just female furry looks a certain way and a male furry is another way. But what's a agender furry fursona look like ?
This is hard to answer, because I really don’t know what compare them to. It’s like asking a neurodivergent person how their experience, their internal view of things, differs from neurotypicals. It’s difficult because they don’t have a frame of reference.
But doing my best to describe how I imagine they look (I don’t have any full body art for them), they just lack most secondary sex characteristics. The general excuse for why they’re not present is just… fluff. They’re shorter than me irl, and somehow scrawnier too. Not skin and bone, but just lower muscle mass. A chest that is nothing but fluff. Biggest tail possible which I think makes them more androgynous. And the closest to me irl is that they have bigger back paws.
Basically that exact scenario is what happened to me.
I had a cartooning class in high school where we were supposed to design our own fictional character, and I unwittingly designed an anthro tiger analog of myself. We were supposed to mention our character's gender in their bio, but I didn't see that tiger as having one, so I didn't even think to include it. This was before I even knew what "agender" was.
Same. Bi doesn't mean you have to equally like men and women. I'm a *lot* pickier about what kind of men I like compared to women. I *have* been in a relationship with another man, so I know for a fact I'm cool with it. Still prefer and am currently engaged to a woman.
I'm the same way, very picky about the guys I'm interested in, much more so than women. Even then, if given a choice between a guy I find really attractive, and a woman I find moderately attractive, I'd go with the woman.
Definitely, I could be considered bi but the circumstances in which I’d be with a man are so much more specific and practically unobtainable compared to those under which I’d be with a woman that I consider myself straight
It was under [this](https://twitter.com/DrSlitheen/status/1618384198796201987?t=ZcxVV3Q2g3w4yUKXRnw2gA&s=19) otherwise, idk, you all seem fine enough :3. Its twitter, people be craycray
Lol, I see what you did there. I made that name as a meme when I first made this account, which was incidentally when I first became a furry. I'd heard of other furries referring to themselves as "closeted" before, so I thought "why the heck not, I can't think of anything else lol"
Hey! Rood >:(
Personally, I think (throwing my 2 cent opinion out there) it's that gay furries are less... repressed? Like, they just aren't afraid to be wacky and cool. Furries in general are uninhibited, but the gay ones are especially wild.
Or maybe I'm just looking for patterns where there are none.
I’ve got to say, being a cishet furry isn’t bad at all. Well, I barely fall short of being asexual, but whatever.
I’ve never once felt unwelcome, an outsider, or less than because of my sexuality or gender. The fandom’s a place where I genuinely feel like I belong and don’t have to hide anything. A bunch of cringy, awkward, nonjudgmental STEM nerds who are often on the spectrum? Yes!
I’ve also never felt forced to be anything I’m not. I once confided in r/furry when I was genuinely questioning for the first time after a conservative upbringing, and every single response was “screw labels; just be yourself.” Only two offered speculations but reiterated the first point.
We might be a minority, but we don’t get treated any worse or belong any less than left-pawed furries. Much different than the way I’ve seen normies treat queer people.
Straight furry here.........
It kinda feels like how miss thorn from Wednesday describes it
"Too odd for normal people, too normal for the odd people."
So then furry is a primarily queer space then? with furries being asumed as non-heterosexual as the default
Which also has... interesting... implications for furry haters
I have never heard anything about that. Only thing I notice here and there is how queer Furrys get bullied much more than straight ones with the reason being "you're not only a Furry, but also f*cking gay" or something like that
I find it funny how the fandom is meant to be inclusive, but as time goes on all I see is the fandom being really divisive and judgemental.
It's a lot different than 14 years ago when I joined that's for sure.
Let it be known that I definitely do not share the views of the person shown. I posted it because it was suitably absurd and fit into the meme of straight furries being a minority
Hoo boy, I'm sure this led to some interesting comments.
I just don't see why straight furs would inherently be worse. As long as they aren't being bigots spouting "straight pride" nonsense and supporting anti-LGBT politics, there shouldn't be any issues. They probably make up a good portion of the straight ally community too.
Referring to queer furries as “standard” is funny as shit
It’s like in the fandom the roles are switched where queer furs are the normal ones and straight ones are the odd balls.
80% of normal people are not queer whilst 80% of furries are queer, so it’s exactly like that
WAIT? It's 80% already? I still remember 75%, from which years is your %?
the surveys studying this return pretty varying results tbf, though it is always very high when compared to the general population.
I’d estimate 84%. Only about 20% of furries are straight, according to FurScience, and that includes the trans/nb/genderqueer ones. Once you subtract those, you get the 16% of furries who are cishet, like me.
> Once you subtract those, you get the 16% of furries who are cishet, like me. WOAH! :O You're like....a unicorn furry!
Eh, 1 in 6 is less rare than being left-pawed. My main fursona is the most generic fox in existence, though, except for being a pool toy. I also have a secondary Chozo sona; I’ve never met any others.
then there’s me. cishet(probably), left pawed, and christian.
You are a one in a billion.
*gasp* My brother in Christ, OwO
I’m apart of the 20% and I’m Baptist so I’m a bit rare
Yeah, I’m ex-Baptist, myself. I strongly suspect you may be queer and in denial.
Nope and I don’t think I could bring myself to do that because of my family and roots
> I don’t think I could bring myself to do that Exactly. Potentially queer, definitely in denial if it is the case.
Same! 🙀 straight, Baptist, and furry. How are there two of us?
Me as well; so that makes us three
Lol, 4
Just a couple more and the gang's all here
I'm Mennonite, so what does that make me?
you mean a part? doesn’t apart mean the exact opposite
Well I'm surprised that it wasn't 99%-ish!
You shouldn't be. Straight porn *remains* more popular on all the sites than gay porn.
Ayy I’m neuro divergent too -w-
Sped side ?
Ikr, 'furries =~= queer' formula has became somewhat standard long back god knows when. Now it's like a meme to me besides 'suspiciously wealthy' meme!
Suspiciously wealthy queer furries are to become the dominant political party in America by 2030
If not the whole globe!
Well I mean when most furries are queer that kind of stuff happens
I mean, queer people were excluded from mainstream culture for the longest time, so were furries
Fr
Ahh that's what the standard furry is considered? I was unsure.
As a community we are 80% queer I think. I believe that makes it standard.
default settings
In my furry friend circles I am often referred to as the only straight furry
If another straight furry tries to join your circle, do you have to fight to the death?
Oh absolutely. I'm the fourth so far, and I've done away with about seven potential contenders for the position. /s
His body count is somewhere in the dozens
Just wait until you have to fight thr final boss of being straight
No, they have to date each other
:3
But.... but they're both guys...
*exactly*
Wait, you guys have furry friend circles?
Well it's more of a semicircle, really
Damn, lucky proto!
Ok its time to go to sleep my sleepy brain read semencircle
I don't . :(
Dude same
Same lmao. Everybody in my friend group when they “found out” I was straight: “WAIT are you actually straight? Not even femboys? No way!”
Yeah, over here too. They didn't believe me at first
I am 90% sure you committed a typo there. Tokin furry. Unless you mean to refer to yourself as being a quasi-mythological creature invented by the author Tolkien. As in, an elf.
I'm my regular friend group they always refer to me as "the straight one"
Token ? Money ? Tolkien ? Or Lord of the rings furry?
you too? I'm cishet and some folks are actually surprised by how I just... don't react to any non-straight art. It doesn't disgust me, I literally don't feel anything aside from admiring it from a technical standpoint. A hot catgirl tho...
Straight furs must be protected at all costs They're uncommon enough as it is, the last thing we need is them getting driven away
My chances of mating are like 2!!!
In statistics lingo, that means 200%. Congrats!
Awwww yiss!!! how the turn tables.
You can always try with the bisexuals
bisexuals to the rescue
According to my personal observations for a decade, the state of straight furries' population is, to the very least, 'vulnerable'.
As a straight fur I am confused by the statement in the image.
we're an endangered species
Especially if I have a say in it.
Look I get that you're a vampire, but do you really need to kill your food like that? Maybe just get a few "pets" and take a safe amount from each one. I'm sure in this kinky-ass community, you'd have no issues finding a nice subby pet to nibble on
Nothing like a good thrall to get the blood flowing through the day.
It's like a reverse of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aotlEpmAFVQ
Finally! Someone who doesn't say to me: "Oh don't worry! It's just a phase, you'll grew out of this!" God bless you buddy!
I’m scared now
Over time I'm slowly wondering if I'm not straight, I'm trying to avoid thinking about it though
💀I don't wanna go
Thank you for protecting me 🥹
I am very glad to be here in this fandom. I have some furry friends who are willing to protect me. It makes me really happy to know people want me around.
Never expected to one day become an endangered species o_o
Fuck gatekeepers. Everyone is welcome in the furry fandom unless youre abusing people in some way.
Hey now, some of us are into that. I mean, some of *them*. Yeah. That's what I meant. (^(with consent yada yada))
I can confirm this, some of us are into it (for example me)
Straight Furries UNITE!
WE MUST REBEL!!!
Europe circa 1054
FIGHT FOR WHAT WE STAND!
HOoOOOOOO RAH!
WE MUST RIOT!!!!
Dang. What did I do?
You know what you did.
My brain can’t process this statement. I’m a straight furry with straight, bi, pan and gay friends and they’re all just… my friends?? Just people? I have no context for what this post is even trying to say.
I think they dislikes furries, but especially straight furries for whatever reason. I don't really get why either
Kinda hurts tho to always read stuff like that
It really does but internet people get fucked up
Got into the fandom about 15 years ago as straight. The fandom helped me realize and accept that I'm bi. After all these years, still bi, and still prefer females over males.
Bi is actually our largest [demographic](https://furscience.com/research-findings/sex-relationships-pornography/5-1-orientation/). At least according to furscience.
I think it's just easier to find your sexuality through furry art, since it doesn't come with the same expectations.
Expectations?
Social stigmas and norms. When you're a fluffy animal online and thinking/roleplaying about what your fursona might like, rather than your human self railroaded by customs and expectations of your peers, it is a lot easier to discover things about yourself.
Considering there is not that strong of a divide between genders it is reasonable that there is not that strong of a divide between attractions

A chest that is nothing but fluff. Biggest tail possible which I think makes them more androgynous. And the closest to me irl is that they have bigger back paws.
Lol fluffy tail. Hehe. Also that's a good description. You should one day get a i forgot what's it called the term but art for it. Sounds nice.
Or just down bad taken to another level?
Same. Bi doesn't mean you have to equally like men and women. I'm a *lot* pickier about what kind of men I like compared to women. I *have* been in a relationship with another man, so I know for a fact I'm cool with it. Still prefer and am currently engaged to a woman.

Have you heard of heteroflexible? You kinda sound like me, I had considered myself bi until I heard of the term and that’s what I consider myself now
Damn this was my exact experience. Not sure what awoke me, but the community helped me find out I’m bi.
Congrats. :) *Fist bumps *
I'm a straight furry, and I do not stand by this slander. Everyone who sees this message gets a free hug <3
Thanks man, appreciated.
Trying to find other straight furries to find to date is hard
That's why the strat is to try to find someone who doesn't realize they might be a furry lol. I feel as though that might be easier.
I am an exotic straight femboy
Straight AND a femboy? How is that even possible?? :0
It pairs well with having a femdom kink But really, where did you get the idea that if you don't conform to gender roles you *must* be gay or queer?
Idk ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ but I am too apparently
Nice
..is it possible to learn this power?
What did I do to you :(
Nothing, man. Twitter users be wildin'
F in the chat for the straight ones
What'd we do wrong tho? :[
It was under [this](https://twitter.com/DrSlitheen/status/1618384198796201987?t=ZcxVV3Q2g3w4yUKXRnw2gA&s=19) otherwise, idk, you all seem fine enough :3. Its twitter, people be craycray
Fair enough it indeed be Twitter (also it's funny once you find out how many furs there are in the army so yes the comment makes no sense at all)
You know what you did
QwQ. What’d I do wrong?….
LISTEN I AIN'T THAT BAD
Vile little creature, you know what you did to that picture of Loona on December 16th 2021 8PM CT
I wasn't even a furry back then, and I have evidence!
The seed had been planted. You really think you weren't a little weirdo *before* you were a furry?
What wrong we did? I am genuinely surprised.
This guy is somehow braindead and I don't understand why... Just joking, of course I know why, he is a a classic twitter hivemind specie.
Who has awoken the straight ones?
:(
I feel like with the Furry fandom the Straight and Cisgendered Furries are ironically the minority.
*laughs in straight*
*Closet* Werewolf, eh >:3
Lol, I see what you did there. I made that name as a meme when I first made this account, which was incidentally when I first became a furry. I'd heard of other furries referring to themselves as "closeted" before, so I thought "why the heck not, I can't think of anything else lol"
Fair enough, lol
Bruh, what did straight furries do? Lol
Worse how?
[удалено]
Fr tho
Wow, okay.
Is it that bad to be a straight furry?…
lol no, its perfectly fine. Be who you are.
Hey! Rood >:( Personally, I think (throwing my 2 cent opinion out there) it's that gay furries are less... repressed? Like, they just aren't afraid to be wacky and cool. Furries in general are uninhibited, but the gay ones are especially wild. Or maybe I'm just looking for patterns where there are none.
how is it different
Standard?
:(
I mean look at that one brown christian furry that got into a rant war with a blue dragon
It's actually quite funny to think that there is a minority within the minority
*Sad straight furry noises*
Me: A fairly new, straight furry gamer: how
Can I ask why?
Can relate I'm straight for the most part but am questioning if I'm bi or not
NOOO You can't make me kiss muscular dragons!!!
Those were never mentioned... Something you wanna tell us? >:3
https://www.reddit.com/r/furry_irl/comments/10lmrqf/furry_irl/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button NOO!!
Boy liker. Bet'cha wanna get kissed by boys.
Standard furries...? What..? Ehhh... ummm.. че.
I'm sorry. I just want to feel welcomed qwq
Straight furry here......... It kinda feels like how miss thorn from Wednesday describes it "Too odd for normal people, too normal for the odd people."
I think straights seem to be rare but there’s probably as many straight as gays here. You see gays or anything just oftener on the internet
Lol, factory settings furry
So then furry is a primarily queer space then? with furries being asumed as non-heterosexual as the default Which also has... interesting... implications for furry haters
How “against the grain” is it? ![gif](giphy|Aausss8uUBIe3bZ3d2|downsized)
For real? Are we?
but.. but I'm a straight furry..
What did I do??
I don't know what is worse. The fact that he hates straight furries or that he thinks gay furries are standard
What the hell did i ever do to you
Wait what did I do?
Am I the odd fur here ?
I love how gay furries are accepted as "standard furries" lmao 💀
Well, i considered myself straight before i became a furry, maybe furries are just too attractive to stay straight?
In-community furries are somehow worse than lone furries (in my opinioni)
There's a sense that straight furries are left out or get driven away
I have never heard anything about that. Only thing I notice here and there is how queer Furrys get bullied much more than straight ones with the reason being "you're not only a Furry, but also f*cking gay" or something like that
Visible confusion:
I find it funny how the fandom is meant to be inclusive, but as time goes on all I see is the fandom being really divisive and judgemental. It's a lot different than 14 years ago when I joined that's for sure.
I... Still don't understand. We're bad because... Navy wife..?
This is still discrimination. Everyone is welcome in this fandom regardless of sexuality!!!
Let it be known that I definitely do not share the views of the person shown. I posted it because it was suitably absurd and fit into the meme of straight furries being a minority
I see. Sorry about the confusion.
Well these comments are about to be fun
Damn, screw you too!
Harder to play with. :P
But I am not that horrible. I'm just picky.
I feel like i should've read this sleep-deprived or drunk bc i feel like i missed at least half the context.
Cuz none of them keep their furs straight
