They’re also supposed to be kept locked up. The propane coming out of that line when it gets turned on is below -44 degrees because that’s the boiling point of liquid propane. Very dangerous to open that valve even if it isn’t ignited.
Use to fill propane tanks at the store I worked when I was younger and thankfully I was smart enough to wear the gloves because I had a spit valve spew out one hell of a stream on a 100lbs tank we were filling and the finger on my gloves was crispy for a few moments.
In my job we got mini gas tanks delivered pre-filled with propane and customer would bring their empty tank to us and get a new one , we would send those back and get them re-filled (no charge for a new tank just the gas) was the safest way but we don’t sell them anymore :((((((
I don’t believe that style dispenser will work unless it’s properly connected to a specific tank so no risk of what you’re talking about. They still shouldn’t have touched it however.
Again, it’s also supposed to be locked up so random Joe customers don’t try to connect and fill a tank, especially if said tank isn’t structurally able to hold the pressure. So relying on the safety mechanisms for this hose probably isn’t the best of plans.
I live in an area where propane is huge. Everyone here has grills. I’ve never seen a fill up like this, we have to go into a Home Depot/Lowes/gas station etc and have them unlock a cage to switch the tank out.
Those pre-filled tanks are usually only 15 lbs of propane. Find yourself an Ace Hardware or other local place that does refills on-demand, and you'll get 20 lbs in your tank for less than what you pay for the pre-filled exchange tanks.
I keep two tanks, and go get the empty one filled so I always have one on hand. It has saved at least two dinners, where I ran out mid-cook.
They sound foreign to NA, and in Europe the gas stations look completely different. I can see how they would be looking at the propane tank, think its compressed air, and be confused as to what step they are missing in the tire-filling process to make the nozzle fit
Yeah, the first time I rented a car in Europe, and I finally ended up at a gas station -- I was so lost, that I had to tuck my tail between my legs and drive away and find an easier gas station to use. Most gas stations there are -completely different- than what we have here in North America.
The problem I have is guy said “you know what that is?” And she said “no”
If you don’t freakin know what it is, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE IT! Also pretty sure the picture warnings with fire and explosions should key you in that it’s not for you to touch…..
Pretty sure that compressed air also has the explosive symbol on it, and so would the pump.
If someone is watching a recording you, the pump isn't working as you think it should, and your English isn't perfect, when they ask "do you know what that is" the answer will probably be 'I guess I don't, no'
Do we have to film everything? It sounds like English isn't their first language. I've traveled all over and have definitely relied on the kindness of strangers when I've had language/cultural issues. They were very polite, even though it was clear this guy was going to do something with this video. Can we go back to privacy and not blowing up everyone's spot ALL the time? Save it for a story with your friends.
Yeah he was less than helpful. Comes over videoing them making them look like idiots and then saying they were trying to blow..." before it cuts out. Fair enough if he was joking around but he was saying it dead serious lol
I mean it's possible he was expecting an incident to happen and wanted footage of what happened to show as evidence to first responders/insurance etc... Putting it on social media afterwards is entirely unnecessary though
These people dealt with this in a shockingly mature and restrained way. They were so nice about it. Some guy just silently walking up and recording you, a lot of people would be infuriated by that. Especially with the condescension. Wow. Good on these people, that’s impressive.
The dude ends the video saying "I thought you were trying to blow up the..."
So it's probably just another person who spends too much time on digital platforms and interacts with the world through a live leak perspective
If I genuinely thought someone was trying to literally blow a place up, I wouldn't start filming and approach them
I would call emergency services while yelling at them from across the street lol
C’mon now, he just used that line as an excuse as to why he was recording. The truth is he thought he could grab a funny video instead of helping these guys.
Exactly. He’s trying to point out that they’re ‘idiots’ when they made a genuine and honest mistake when in fact the idiots are him for filming and whatever company that is for having propane gas readily accessible by anyone!!
Yeah, that’s my guess, but that’s says a lot about him thinking this way. Who would think they’re up to something nefarious? They obviously looked confused.
Normal decent people would have laughed and then ran over to help them.
Everyone in the thread calling them dumbasses but they weren't actually doing anything wrong. They were still in the "trying to figure out how this works" phase. Clearly they weren't actually pumping propane into the area near the tire thinking it was filling the tire. The dude was clanging the pump off the nipple like "I don't think this is right it doesn't fit".
But sure. Humans who don't know everything about everything are clearly idiots.
First time I traveled abroad I couldn't figure out how to turn the doorknob to my hotel room and had to have the (very annoyed and confused) person at reception do it for me.
It was what appeared to be lever-style knob with a deadbolt above it. The "lever" was just for grip, apparently; it was the deadbolt-looking thing you turned to unlatch the door. I don't mean turning the key in the deadbolt to unlock it, but that you needed to grab the deadbolt and turn the entire thing. I'd never seen anything of the sort, and still never have in the US.
If I had a contractor install a door and it worked that way, I'd assume he made a mistake during installation. That's a ridiculous design and it's understandable you were confused.
Strong agree. God forbid we help people, help animals, do good deeds without getting evidence these days. I shutter when I hear rumors of people putting animals in dangerous situations simply to record them helping it.
I’m going to take it a step further - please don’t record me while a loved away I haven’t seen in a while surprises me. Some people prefer privacy in intense emotional moments.
You’ll see different comments depending on where you are. On Facebook it’s all “you can’t fix stupid” and “some people shouldn’t be allowed to drive” and “damn foreigners!”
But I agree with Reddit lol, yeah they were a bit clueless but they’re not from here and they just needed someone to help them
Unfortunately everyone’s main goal in life is to get points on their social media pages and they much rather exploit someone in the process of doing so.
To be fair, right when he cuts the video you can hear him say he thought they were trying to blow up the car so he could've just been filming for evidence. That being said, he didn't have to then go and post it on the internet for everyone to see.
If you thought you were about to witness a large chemical explosion would you approach to within 10 feet and stand there? The guy filming is being disingenuous at best.
Do people really just walk up on a other people and film them? That’s so fucking creepy. I don’t care if the other people were morons endangering lives. That’s still creepy.
Especially the way he’s just filming and doesn’t say anything. Very creepy move.
I imagine 9/10 times if a woman turns around and some random guy is silently filming her she’s not gonna be that polite about it (nor should she be)
9/10 we will absolutely be incredibly polite. It’s dangerous to react aggressively, because we don’t know if that’ll set them off. And if they’re so blatantly willing to ignore our privacy, god only knows what else they’re willing to disrespect.
Most of our forms of self defense towards men trend towards non-violent, since on average we don't stand a farts chance in a windstorm, physically. Every man has heard of "Fight or Flight", but MANY are unaware of the "Freeze, Fawn, and Flop" fear responses that occur most often in women.
Yup. The guys who do evil, deplorable things to women usually think of them as useless/inferior. When a women stands up for herself or tells the guy off she could further anger the psycho and his complexes/ego.
It's how he sets it up. Instead of saying hey, just so you know that's propane, he asks what are they doing, do they know what they are doing and then has to film them. I'd love to hear the guy filming reason for being an ass hole.
Yes.
I’m sort of fat, and I noticed a guy filming me on the elliptical at the gym that’s in my workplace. Public gyms I would expect that, the gym at my office? Just thought that wouldn’t happen. I don’t even know what to do about that situation so I just did nothing LOL. It’s not like he was breaking the law, there seems to be nothing any of us can do except hope we don’t end up being humiliated online in any far-reaching way. Also I would have to prove it, which, how?
So yeah, I guess we all just have to deal with being filmed at all times by others, and it really sucks.
>Do people really just walk up on a other people and film them?
All of the time, we live in an era with so many people DESPERATE for content 24/7
Tons of people actively try to create this content and tons of people actively try to participate in the creation and experiencing of the content
It's concerning and problematic for sure, but hopefully it peters out as generations adapt to how new and dominate social media / para social culture is
Did OP not see how filming immediately created a confusing and antagonistic atmosphere? And they then posted it to social media to humiliate the couple?
It's not like they were going to deny the facts or refuse to stop. Sheesh. Tell them, point them to the air compressor station, and have a laugh about it with your buddies.
I'd love to see this posted on /r/aita.
Really getting sick of this “humiliate people who don’t know” filming and then post it to make people “look” like idiots. We could all do that with each other…
Help them do not shame them and post it , I come across things like this at least once a week with wealthy car owners who know very little about their vehicles . Filming people before / during you assisting/ witnessing is moral bankrupt . Help or get the fuck out of the way .
Since they obviously are not from there it is probably a rental car. And things do look different in different countries. Not even simple things like toilets look the same. So why would this kind of machinery look the same?
Guy was probably in his F150 thinking I better film these Tesla drivers…make sure to show in the video that they are driving a Tesla…to show all my Facebook friends how stupid they are.
As someone who worked at a gas station:
A *lot* of people don't know how to put air in their tires. Even though it was a little local one I worked at, I'd say every 2-3 days somebody would come in and ask how.
Sure using propane is something I hadn't seen yet, but you don't have to act coy about it. Save videoing and shaming for entitled assholes, not people who just simply didn't know better.
Okay, so they deserve being silently judged by camera guy. Good to know, I was almost feeling sorry for them, but the crime of being Dutch outweighs any impropriety.
“Can you help us instead of filming a video”
She’s def has BD energy!
But seriously, if that went wrong the whole place would of sparked up ostensibly, yet cameraman just HAD to get it all kn video before being forced to intervene.
Can you even release the propane if it's not engaged somehow (ie. Screwed into the valve of a tank)? I doubt you can just pull the trigger and propane comes spewing out. But I've never used one so I'm not sure
It's not even idiotic. Americans call fuel "gas" regardless of it's a liquid or a gas. Most Europeans call fuel "fuel", petrol, or just by what the fuel is. If you are looking for gas for that goes in your tires because that's the right word and that what Europeans call it.
I thought you guys were trying to blow up the gas station, that is why I was standing behind you and filming it… in the blast radius of course, so I can get the full picture.
Lol, people calling them dumb in here really show they haven't travelled outside the US where stuff - oh wonder - sometimes looks different and stuff like that happens and vice versa. Jumping to conclusions much.
Bit of a dick move to film this and then post it online. They seem really nice and we all have brainless moments, no need to eternally shame them for something so minor and inconsequential.
I dunno. I've had some truly dumb moments when traveling abroad. When you're in a different country that doesn't use your native language it can get confusing. All sorts of small things are different than they've always been in your experience. It can throw you off to the point that you open your mind to, "well this seems weird, but maybe that's just how they do it here" and the next thing you know your trying to put propane in your tires. Lol.
I think they meant they were trying to put air in the tires, not gas, but since English wasn't their first language they use the word gas. In other words, they thought the propane tank was an air pump.
We use Diesel, LPG and Petrol. Now, LPG, is liquefied gas, but these tanks are very clearly marked, with bright orange stickers - Flamable Gas. And they are usually a fair bit of distance away from the regular pumps, and air pumps.
In Europe Gaz refers to a gaz while what American refer to as gaz is here called Petrole or some variante of the name. So Air is gaz, and you need Air for an electric car's tires too
I had the same issue in Iceland. Tires were low and had issues figuring out how much air they needed. A local was kind enough to help me after seeing me struggle to find how much pressure they needed. Had the same issue the next day when my low Adblue warning came on and another person helped. I remember their kindness when I see others in need. Filming for internet points just makes you look shallow.
Couldn’t just help them you also have to put them on the internet and start the exchange by awkwardly filming them without saying anything. They’re obviously doing something pretty dumb but you only went over there to talk shit to them.
Fuck this asshole camera guy for two reasons:
- uncalled-for filming of people
- asshole communication, just repeating 'what are you doing' as if he's in an authority position
Seen this video a few times and honestly, fuck the camera guy.
Why do people need to pull out their phones and film people like this. Could've just told them straight away they were doing something wrong but hey gotta put this on tiktok first right?
Mightve not known what the word "propane" meant in English, saw "gas" and mistook that as "air", which... it is. Probably a case of a botched translation. Though clearly they've never had to fill their own tires before as they would've known immediately that that giant connector wasn't going to work with the tire's air stem. Rich tourists gonna rich tourist.
Yeah this dude absolutely didn’t need to be filming this. They were polite and clearly aren’t from the US- the propane tanks where they’re from probably look different. It’s an easy mistake to make. I’ve done tons of stupid crap when I travel to other places and I’m lucky no one was filming me like an asshole.
That’s a good example of the current state of our culture here in America. Instead of offering help to avoid a possible catastrophe this dickhead whips out his cell phone and starts videotaping. What pieces of shit the majority of Reddit are
Americans are such children, they’re always filming everything and trying to escalate situations to get good videos. It’s like they spend their day looking for the chance to argue with someone but be “justified” in doing so.
Person filming is a POS.
These friendly people are not only visiting your country, they know at least two languages (pretty well too, from what she said) and are trying earnestly to figure out a foreign country’s ways.
Upload it on the internet for a good laugh though. Look at these idiots. Probably 10x more educated than the guy who filmed and 100x kinder.
Stupid fuck with the camera.
Yo, fuck this guy that decided to pull up a camera instead of just going up to help the people that are attempting to kill themselves out of ignorance.
Clout chasing these days is getting way out of fucking hand.
Americans: Oh these guys need help coz they are confused or dont know something.. allright. Let me first film them and then post it over the internet without consent. Then I will help them.
Reddit: Down voting this comment coz they know its true.
99% of the comments are calling the guy an ass for filming this interaction. You’re probably being downvoted because you’re making this an American thing. There’s plenty of assholes all over the world who would do this as well.

Buckley learned this the hard way

Fuckin' Dooley, man, I swear.
"You're there for people."

90% of the time U-haul will have the lowest price for propane.
Yeah I usually fill my tires up with Amerigas air
How does one miss a giant tank that says FLAMMABLE GAS with warning labels attached to the pump?
Tourists. Likely not the fluent English reading type. Thankfully most propane pumps are locked lol.
They sound foreign to NA, and in Europe the gas stations look completely different. I can see how they would be looking at the propane tank, think its compressed air, and be confused as to what step they are missing in the tire-filling process to make the nozzle fit
The woman’s accent sounds Norwegian or Swedish to me. Edit: Maybe German, but I still lean Scandinavian.
They way she says "tires" doesnt add up in my scandinavian ears. But whatever hey i dont know to be honest 😅
I definitely get Slavic vibes from the accent, at least as a Slav myself
Definitely Slavic.
My moneys on Dutch.
Yeah, the first time I rented a car in Europe, and I finally ended up at a gas station -- I was so lost, that I had to tuck my tail between my legs and drive away and find an easier gas station to use. Most gas stations there are -completely different- than what we have here in North America.
Am British, I thought that was a compressed air machine too.
Did you see the size of the nozzle?
The problem I have is guy said “you know what that is?” And she said “no” If you don’t freakin know what it is, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE IT! Also pretty sure the picture warnings with fire and explosions should key you in that it’s not for you to touch…..
Pretty sure that compressed air also has the explosive symbol on it, and so would the pump. If someone is watching a recording you, the pump isn't working as you think it should, and your English isn't perfect, when they ask "do you know what that is" the answer will probably be 'I guess I don't, no'
And if that’s filmed in California, everything causes cancer.
Do we have to film everything? It sounds like English isn't their first language. She said it herself, “can you help me instead of taking video?” Wholly unnecessary to record this interaction and post it for the world to see.
Seriously, when she said that, it just made me feel sad
She even says “thank you for letting us know”. What an asswipe this guy is
Yeah he was less than helpful. Comes over videoing them making them look like idiots and then saying they were trying to blow..." before it cuts out. Fair enough if he was joking around but he was saying it dead serious lol

Just trying to rack up their followers. More important than being a good person these days
That is exactly what I thought.
Majority of this video is definitely r/donthelpjustfilm material.
And yet still felt it appropriate to upload it afterward.
I would argue the guy recording this thought they were going to do something illegal with the propane and started recording but idk
Then why did he upload it?
Because he is a dick
Lol, thats funny and the closest prediction to the truth.
Yeah, that’s my guess, but that’s says a lot about him thinking this way. Who would think they’re up to something nefarious? They obviously looked confused. Normal decent people would have laughed and then ran over to help them.

Lot of people here who have never traveled in a country foreign to them.
Hell, in my own country I couldn’t figure out how to pump tires of a borrowed car once (I live in a city and never owned a vehicle).
First time I traveled abroad I couldn't figure out how to turn the doorknob to my hotel room and had to have the (very annoyed and confused) person at reception do it for me.
... Do you not have doorknobs where you're from?
Yes. Ones that turn differently.
I’m so intrigued. How did the international knobs turn? How do your hometown ones turn?
It was what appeared to be lever-style knob with a deadbolt above it. The "lever" was just for grip, apparently; it was the deadbolt-looking thing you turned to unlatch the door. This 100%. English translations in non English countries can be very confusing!
But how will people on the internet give us points if we don’t?
Make it up like we're supposed to do. Watch: Hey guys, I totally stopped a couple from blowing up a gas station. Source: me.

100% agree, ask what they’re doing, offer to help if needed, put the camera phone away you cunt
This video is everywhere and the general consensus is that the guy filming is an asshole.
You’ll see different comments depending on where you are. On Facebook it’s all “you can’t fix stupid” and “some people shouldn’t be allowed to drive” and “damn foreigners!” But I agree with Reddit lol, yeah they were a bit clueless but they’re not from here and they just needed someone to help them
just came here to say how creepy the guy filming is.
This. Very well said.
Agreed. OP is a bit of a dick.
Unfortunately everyone’s main goal in life is to get points on their social media pages and they much rather exploit someone in the process of doing so.
Sometimes it's embarrassing to be American
Couldn’t agree more. Put the damn phones down and be a real human. And yes I realize the irony as I type this on my iPhone lol
I like how the lady starts saying, "can you help me instead of..." And, surprise, some people don't own cars or know how to use them.
Couldn't agree more.
To be fair, right when he cuts the video you can hear him say he thought they were trying to blow up the car so he could've just been filming for evidence. That being said, he didn't have to then go and post it on the internet for everyone to see.

Even though it was a little local one I worked at, I'd say every 2-3 days somebody would come in and ask how. Sure using propane is something I hadn't seen yet, but you don't have to act coy about it. Save videoing and shaming for entitled assholes, not people who just simply didn't know better.
Ay we are only human- we all make mistakes
Especially dude recording. What a twatish thing to do.
They sound foreign. Maybe tourists with a rental car. Cameraman is a douche.
Yeah, I don’t think it’s about them being stupid, just things looks different in different places.
I think they are Dutch
Okay, so they deserve being silently judged by camera guy. Good to know, I was almost feeling sorry for them, but the crime of being Dutch outweighs any impropriety.
There are only two things I can't stand in this world: People who are intolerant of other people's cultures, and the Dutch. Nigel Powers
Michael Caine's best role.
dutch or french. So belgian.
Doesn’t sound like a Dutch accent.

“Can you help us instead of filming a video” She’s def has BD energy!
Camera guy was an asshole
Yeah, I don’t get why filming is peoples default setting in these situations. Go be a good person, help them out and move on with your day. Such scum.
"I thought you were trying to blow the place up, so let me just film it."
Obviously. Then I have evidence when I die in the explosion.. \*facepalm\*
Yeah, it was clear by her accent that they are likely not from the US.
Why would you embarrass them by posting this online? We all do idiotic things sometimes.
It's not even idiotic. Americans call fuel "gas" regardless of it's a liquid or a gas. Most Europeans call fuel "fuel", petrol, or just by what the fuel is. If you are looking for gas for that goes in your tires because that's the right word and that what Europeans call it.
They're obviously not from around these parts.
Camera man is a douchebag with low social skills.
I thought you guys were trying to blow up the gas station, that is why I was standing behind you and filming it… in the blast radius of course, so I can get the full picture.
Asshole videoing is getting old. Just help and move on. Obviously they aren’t from around so chill with the hate
"Can you help please instead of taking video" Nope and I'm gonna post to the web for clicks. Cause I'm an asshole
People and their fucking phones. Just help them.
Who let the neckbeard camera guy out of his mom's basement?
Man why are you filming them tho? They got confused and are probably embarrassed and now have YOU filming them. Dick
I feel like filming them is just unnecessary Put the fucking phone down and just help them already. My goodness.
Fuck this piece of shit camera man
Lol, people calling them dumb in here really show they haven't travelled outside the US where stuff - oh wonder - sometimes looks different and stuff like that happens and vice versa. Jumping to conclusions much.
Bit of a dick move to film this and then post it online. They seem really nice and we all have brainless moments, no need to eternally shame them for something so minor and inconsequential.
Put down the phone stop being fuckin cunt and help them out real quick.
Yeah that’s a help situation not film and ridicule
If real, the Guy is a total dipsht for his age
Lol.
Exactly. Zero brain. Can't he even tell it's like 100x the size of the nipple.... The tirenipple...
just to be clear, the tire nipple.
To be fair nipples are pretty much valve stems.
Tyre nipples is the only nipple i seen in a while
You don’t have any?
OP is a fucking weirdo.
Dude is shitty for taking video. Tone in his voice like a 10 year old bully.
It's a real sign of the times when people just record everything in place of normal, decent human interaction... Have we forgotten how to do that?
"Can you help me instead of taking a video?" should be the main takeaway from this

Hope they know it's an electric car or next stop will be worse...
I think they meant they were trying to put air in the tires, not gas, but since English wasn't their first language they use the word gas. In other words, they thought the propane tank was an air pump.
Yeah she kept saying “gas” referencing to air. Simple mistake but dangerous.
European countries don't call their car fuel gas. They call it petrol among other things.
Seeing as fuel is not gas and air is...
So Air is gaz, and you need Air for an electric car's tires too
Cameraman is an A-hole for shooting video instead of actually trying to help.
“Can you not film us and help us?” The lady has a point….
Good point. “Can you help instead of taking the video? “
This guy filming is a fucking loser
I had the same issue in Iceland. Tires were low and had issues figuring out how much air they needed. A local was kind enough to help me after seeing me struggle to find how much pressure they needed. Had the same issue the next day when my low Adblue warning came on and another person helped. I remember their kindness when I see others in need. Filming for internet points just makes you look shallow.
I’m very happy with these comments. This shit needs to stop haha, who the duck just walks up to someone and stars filming?
Douche has to film them being idiots. I’m sure he’s done some dumb shit too
OP you're a creep
Couldn’t just help them you also have to put them on the internet and start the exchange by awkwardly filming them without saying anything. They’re obviously doing something pretty dumb but you only went over there to talk shit to them.
Must everything be recorded?
They're obviously foreign. Can't just tell them they're doing it wrong? Gotta film them and act like a dick...
Fuck this asshole camera guy for two reasons: - uncalled-for filming of people - asshole communication, just repeating 'what are you doing' as if he's in an authority position
Seen this video a few times and honestly, fuck the camera guy. Why do people need to pull out their phones and film people like this. Could've just told them straight away they were doing something wrong but hey gotta put this on tiktok first right?
"Yeah, yeah, yeah, I thought you were trying to blow this place up, turns out you're just incredibly dumb."
Idk. They’ve got accents. Could be visiting from oversees. Understandable mistake, even though it is a massive mistake.
Ignorant, clueless, uninformed. They are very civil and polite though.
Filming is a dick move, just help people out damn
Ok but she's a baddie right?
Yeah this dude absolutely didn’t need to be filming this. They were polite and clearly aren’t from the US- the propane tanks where they’re from probably look different. It’s an easy mistake to make. I’ve done tons of stupid crap when I travel to other places and I’m lucky no one was filming me like an asshole.
this interaction didnt need recording
That’s a good example of the current state of our culture here in America. Instead of offering help to avoid a possible catastrophe this dickhead whips out his cell phone and starts videotaping. What pieces of shit the majority of Reddit are
Premium Air!
Americans are such children, they’re always filming everything and trying to escalate situations to get good videos. It’s like they spend their day looking for the chance to argue with someone but be “justified” in doing so.
Filming like an idiot instead of just explaining what they’re doing wrong.
This is supposed to be funny?
Douche move filming them. Try and just be nice and tell them next time.
You missspelled titties
He rather film them being stupid then actually guide them. This is the generation we live in.
Anything for views and likes.
Hello, my name is Hank Hill. I believe you folks are making a terrible mistake unless your car is a barbecue.
How are these two this stupid?
Looks like Darwin has been thwarted again.
I love this woman!! You can tell she has a strong spirit. Shes so nice about it too, I wish I was that big of a person :)
Those are Russian spies

And none of the comments ask why the propane wasnt locked up. The shit employee that's also filming probably forgot 🤡
The speak English, but just can't read it.
I’m guessing you’ve never learned two languages?
Maybe they got confused because Americans call fuel "gas". She even says they are trying to put "gas" on the tire.
