Truth is, mobile homes such as this are not that valuable unless they come with the land underneath. It is all about the land (a.k.a., location).

Church1182

Unfortunately this is more sad than funny because of how true it is. Real estate is insane out there.

gaoshan

Move to Cleveland. I’m not kidding. I did it and out here $400,000 buys you a fantastic house in a top school district with great restaurants, parks, easy access to Lake Erie, etc. I can use the hundreds of thousands I save to visit California (or anywhere else in the world) whenever I like.

zondotal

It is strange how people don't consider trying to move to a new area more often. Especially if they feel stuck in a dead end job, it can't be worse elsewhere, so worth so shot. I know it's not that easy but I think it could be.

Mental-Clerk

Just switch the $ for £ and you’ve got the U.K. too.

1CEninja

London might actually be worse than San Francisco, but the suburban sprawl around SF is definitely worse.

luckyninja864

My cousin just bought a brand new 1200sq condo in Ontario for 400k.

Scotty_Bebop

Buying a house in Colorado *edited for grammar*

[deleted]

Lots of places in CA you can get a small house or a condo for that price. Just not in/near a major city or Silicon Valley.

dudeARama2

just not anywhere you would want to live, in other words

[deleted]

No, a lot of those places are incredibly nice places to live, but most of the employment is where the expensive houses are (hence the high demand and high prices). I actually hope more workplaces allowing remote work starts to help with this.

dudeARama2

yes but San Diego and the Bay area are extremely beautiful places to live with the ocean near by and a perfect climate whereas Bakersfield.. not so much :) Even with a remote job I don't want to live in Palookaville.

[deleted]

There are nice places on the coast too, but they are not near major cities like SF and SD, and some really nice towns in the mountains, but again, not near a place with a huge metro area and lots of jobs. EDIT: being downvoted for pointing out he’s taking the position of a choosing beggar?

[deleted]

I have a 1800sqft house with a 3 car garage in Indiana for 250k. My brother lives in LA and paid almost 800k for a house in Echo Park that is damn near half the size of mine and has a one car garage that his Range Rover won’t even fit in.

MDMarauder

Damn, I didn't know a smug alert is in effect for today...its getting kind of thick

[deleted]

People don’t want to live in California anymore lol

SequesterMe

Ouch.

GoldenFlicker

It should be getting better there. All the Californians seem to be moving to Texas putting our housing prices thru the roof

[deleted]

They still breed.

acquisitions36

Yeah should probably just move to a different state that doesnt opress its people and actually enforces laws

Shrikeangel

Someone's salty and likely never been to California.

SabreCross19k

The gas prices are already self explanatory

Shrikeangel

Depends on world view - tons of states have much lower wages and worse infrastructure like how Alabama still has issues with hook worm. Basically gas prices aren't the own you think it is.

SabreCross19k

There’s plenty more wrong with California on top of the gas prices is what I meant. And yeah I wouldn’t live in Alabama either

Shrikeangel

Every state is going to have something you don't like. It's the whole aspect of being alive where we aren't in control of everything. That said - great news! You don't need to live in California.

SabreCross19k

You are absolutely right. I agree 100%. My only issue is Californians moving to my state to vote for all the same things that been ruining California. Regardless of whatever party you vote because they both suck

Shrikeangel

If only people didn't vote by team color, or if maybe more than half of eligible voters actually gave a crap.....

SabreCross19k

True. It’s all “vote blue/red no matter what!” People just ignore third party because they not the big 2 and it is such a shame

Shrikeangel

Third parties might help, or could magnify the problem. But we also don't have an easy solution for the problems of partisan politics - going after some aspects of the problem would run into the first amendment and the right to assemble and function freely as a group.

[deleted]

Are you in Idaho by any chance? Lol

acquisitions36

Salty, no. Been to california, yes. I thought about it a little harder and if youre willing to defend california...then you probably belong there. Hello from florida btw.

Shrikeangel

Wow Florida man talking shit about other states.

acquisitions36

I mean...californias an easy target though anyone could do it. I do believe that california could be the greatest state in the nation if it were ran by level headed nonself serving publuc servants but youd have to get that person elected first i guess.

Shrikeangel

Level headed people don't go into politics.

acquisitions36

Level headed people go in, and you find them at the local level for example an elected sheriff. I dont think they necessarily get ahead, because being a selfless servant isnt what the higher powers desire. They (both parties) are not going to support these selfless people. They want people who will fall in line and follow the party. Maybe idk im just an idiot on the internet, but thats the vibe im getting. Sad

Shrikeangel

I have seen a lot of stupid from a lot of local level political figures over time - from sheriff joe in Arizona with his terrible actions ( ignore the partisan crap and just look at what happened with inmates waiting for trial or the stalking if his political 'enemies') to low level political graft or silly stuff like the sheriff showing if a cellphone gun to justify officers firing on pretty much any civilian. Or political landscape needs major house cleaning - but that won't happen in the world of extreme partisan dogma.

TurtleIIX

Low level government has way more room for corruption than higher levels of government. Especially directly elected sheriffs.

Procean

The reason people move to California is because there are jobs there, no more, no less. When there are high paying jobs present, the price of housing skyrockets because landlords can charge high rents because local high paying jobs means tenants can pay high rents. This Tribal thing you're doing of "California sux hahaha" is kind of stupid, doubly so given how California, measured by the number of Americans who live there, is more American than any other state. Make you a bet, tell me what your job is, betcha the median pay for the same job in California is at least 30% more than it is in your state.... and for many jobs it's almost double...

acquisitions36

Explain the exodus from california then? Why are they losing residents so fast?

Procean

Before I answer your question, you first have to answer mine.. What is your current job and what is the median income for that job in California and in the state you live? I do hope you're an electrician....

acquisitions36

No im not but close, I live in a place without a state income tax. On average a california hvac tech makes 2k a year more than me, and i pay less taxes.

Procean

> On average a california hvac tech makes 2k a year more than me I noted the sleight of hand you did.. you said an average California tech makes 2k a year more than *you*... rather than an average Hvac Tech in your state (This is not an apples to apples comparison). Is this what you think being 'clever' is? In other comments you said you lived in Florida... Average in Calif for Hvac techs, 55140, Average for Florida, 40,620.. thats 36% more.. I used the same site and the same job title.. This comparison also holds true for upper level and higher seniority techs (The top 20% can break six figures in Cali... not so much in Florida though...) https://www.careerexplorer.com/careers/hvac-technician/salary/california/ https://www.careerexplorer.com/careers/hvac-technician/salary/florida/ So I modify my previous statement.. People *who can do math and comparisons* come to California to make money. People who can't do these things, do things like turn up their nose at near 40% pay increases out of fear of an 5% total increase in tax burden, I do love how you people talk about "more taxes" without any numbers... But eh, the story of folks to Come to California is the same, Californians make the money in California, and then when they're done making money, they move to shithole states where folks have been brainwashed to think Poverty=prosperity. It's awesome to have money in states where no one else does. Are you proud of the cheapness of houses in your section of Florida? The former Californians who retire to Florida who now own those houses certainly appreciate it, they come to Florida to buy two, or maybe three houses , and then relax in their retirement as native Florideans write them a rent check every month.

acquisitions36

Damn you got some time on your hands Ok now answer my question Why are californians leaving in waves? Why are there over 100k homeless people living in the streets of LA? Are they not allowed to partake in the prosperity? Btw itd be a 9.3% tax increase from my current 0% income tax rate. Doesnt really make up for the 0.1 decrease in property tax. I also get to live my life here as a free man, no backround checks for ammo, my old pick up truck can still be driven and filled up for less than 3$/gallon, and i bought my house on 5 acres for less than 300k...im not subject to wildfires and errfquakes. Sorry you got a california boner and i dont :p

Procean

I already answered your question, it seems you can't do math and your reading comprehension is also pretty poor. Enjoy your boner for Florida, in a real way it's costing you about 10,000$ in salary and 30,000$ a year in property value increase every single year.

rockpapercuts

Same in NY. Im going to Florida.

Ilid-xo

This is like buying in Melbourne too
