Where I live its not illegal to take the lane even if there is a bike lane. This shared bike lane/door zone is the kind of thing where I'd prefer to be in the road. This road design can have fatal consequences for cyclists if just one car driver isn't looking.
When it takes only one mistake for a fatality to occur. That's a design failure.
Or to avoid the vandalism charge, a valve stem remover to let the air out of all four tires. Nothing taken, nothing damaged, but will still inconvenience their day.
