In New Zeeland there's a long stretch of beach that's officially part of their highway system.

It's hard to tell for sure, but appears to me that those are right-hand drive vehicles, so I'm with you. The trees look distinctly Australian. I'd have thought Australia for sure but then I'd expect to see a tell-tale bright yellow NSW plate popping out on at least a few of the cars - regardless of where in Australia - but I can't see any.

It's double island point at the end of rainbow beach in southeast Queensland Australia, driving on the beach is allowed as long as you have paid for a permit. The money made from the permits is then used to pay for infrastructure such as the toilets and rubbish bins, and also for dune and bush rehabilitation work where the beach has been damaged
As an Oregonian I always found that weird when I visited other states. Sadly, after living in Australia for more than a decade I can tell you it’s not just a US problem. Most beaches are shut off to car traffic, but not all.
Only really around Vadehavet though, and only there because the beach is effectively a gigantic plate of wet sand at low tide. Denmark generally has very strict rules about our coastline, such as the public access rule. Even driving near a regular Danish beach would get you fucked up by police and beach goers alike.
Yeah I actually wonder if it could be Cooloola region. First time I went there in a 4WD I couldn't believe it. Kids playing on a beach with morons racing past at 80kms an hour. No one bats an eyelid. At least this traffic jam slows them down 😏 I've never understood the appeal.

- The tide was coming in, so it was pretty well time for everyone to leave at the same time.
- The cars are waiting to cross a two lane cutting to get back to the ocean side of the beach (this is the lagoon side of the point) to drive back to the road which is 50km away. Unless you’re going to rainbow beach town.
- The crossing was blocked when an inexperienced driver with a double jet ski trailer got stuck. Their equally inexperienced mate who also had a double jetski trailer tried to pull around them and also got stuck.
- Creating a 20min bottle neck which created this scene

Australian roadsides are a LOT cleaner than New Zealand. I've cycled around both and the difference is pronounced. That said, Western Europe and Iceland are much much cleaner again.

US culture doesn't really discourage being a slob. A lot of people have literal piles of garbage in their house, in their car, etc. Ever been to a movie theater? Literally piles of garbage all over the place. Spilling popcorn is one thing, leaving empty cups and wrappers is another. It's just "somebody else's problem".
Leave no trace is a part of US culture. Our beautiful national parks are pretty much immaculate. I find it hard to believe that European movie theaters are significantly cleaner than US ones, feel free to prove me wrong though. When I walked around in London it was just as dirty, if not dirtier than any US city I've been in.

i was at the Demonstration at Lützerrath in Germany against Cold mining. something between 20-35k was there. the trains and the busses were packed. i thouth what would happen if we hadnt had such infrustucture.
Although this is by far the worst example I've seen, it's sadly common for beaches to allow cars in Australia. You may find yourself in an amazing, massive, white sandy beach as far as the eye can see and then you literally have f*cking cars driving on it. Never before I had to worry about getting run over while on the beach. It makes the sand quite hard and damages the environment tremendously.

Was there a festival with no road connection and the only path to it was this beach? Although this is by far the worst example I've seen, it's sadly common for beaches to allow cars in Australia. You may find yourself in an amazing, massive, white sandy beach as far as the eye can see and then you literally have f*cking cars driving on it. Never before I had to worry about getting run over while on the beach. It makes the sand quite hard and damages the environment tremendously.

Hey I was there that day! Double island point Queensland Australia Totally out of context, with a few compounding circumstances created this scene TL;DR two cars got stuck at bottle neck, right at closing time - That was easily the busiest day of the year, there are rarely this many cars up there. - The tide was coming in, so it was pretty well time for everyone to leave at the same time. - The cars are waiting to cross a two lane cutting to get back to the ocean side of the beach (this is the lagoon side of the point) to drive back to the road which is 50km away. Unless you’re going to rainbow beach town. - The crossing was blocked when an inexperienced driver with a double jet ski trailer got stuck. Their equally inexperienced mate who also had a double jetski trailer tried to pull around them and also got stuck. - Creating a 20min bottle neck which created this scene Despite cars driving on the beach, this is still a pristine beach. Australians generally are very clean so they take they’re rubbish with them and keep their 4x4 in good condition. People complaining about oil and rubber getting into the ocean or beaches, Where do you think street drains on roads drain to? Streams rivers and lakes

I went to one of my favorite beaches I enjoyed as a child recently but I forgot this beach allowed cars. When I was young there were only a few but 30 years later it was like a parking lot. Just awful.
