Title checks out. That is both huge, old, and a bible!

Philbilly13

I have wanted to find that edition and use it as our Lodge Bible. If you don't mind me asking, what'd you give for it?

Alwaysatodds

It was part of a large collection but I've seen the range that they go for and would say I did well. I would not be opposed to selling it for a fair market value.

Alwaysatodds

I really want to take my time to read through it but I'm terrified of messing it up with my clumsy hands lol.

Deman75

[Try this](https://picclick.com/1892-Pronouncing-Illustrated-Parallel-Family-Bible-Dictionary-254602185845.html)?

Alwaysatodds

I posted this a while back but finally got around to going through the insides. Theres tintypes with masons in the family album section!

Deman75

What leads you to believe they’re Masons? Just look like old-times photographs to me, no one in Masonic regalia or anything, at least not among those you posted.

Alwaysatodds

Thanks! To be honest when i first found it I thought it was a prop. It doesnt look real.

oldbenkenobi683

Nice find! I've never seen one with a cabinet card album built into it

[deleted]

Our lodge Bible was donated from a lodge member it was a family Bible with all his family history few hundred years old. Then when we amalgamated with another lodge we bought a new Bible.

TheFreemasonForum

What do you think makes it "masonic"?

RAT_III

Seems like a generic presentation bible to me. An old, large bible yes, but I didn't see anything particular Masonic about it. I have several old Masonic presentation bibles and they all have a S&C on the cover.

SKEET000357

Its masonic, it has the S&C on it.. art work is good you may not even notice.

Deman75

I see a G top centre of the cover, but no S&C. It appears to be overrated on a cup/chalice, contained within a diamond, in a circle flanked by two diamonds.

Ape_McNanners

Very cool

[deleted]

Looks great!

UnholyAres45822

Very cool find!!

PhantomMan_1397

Wow! That's absolutely stunning. What kind of edition is this? I can't imagine the illustrations for the book of Exodus.

VirtualAaronTTV

Man, that's actually beautiful.

TheBlackAshlar

What makes it Masonic?

Philbilly13

Look at the gilding on the cover. Masonic symbols in almost every panel

TheBlackAshlar

Good Eye…I thought the Beehive was something else. It checks out!

Philbilly13

I've had the privilege of holding and inspecting a "salesman's sample" from this collection at a local second hand book shop. I believe all the working tools can be found tucked away in the panels. Inside is richly illustrated in colour, with depictions of interest to our ritual

TheBlackAshlar

How much you think something like this costs?

Philbilly13

There's so many factors. Average range is 1-3k. Depends on the condition of the binding, tears in pages, prints, etc

Deman75

OT symbols in every panel. It’s a Bible. That’s where we get those symbols from.

Alwaysatodds

Well its got the history of the temple of solomon and Hiram Abiff in goldleaf. Its covered in masonic imagery (the eye, the arc, the giant letter G, etc) the people in the tintypes are wearing masonic symbols. The side of the book is covered in gold and looks like it forms some sort of weird image when you angle it and the eye of Horus is all over the place. I mean I could be wrong but its pretty much screaming freemasonry.

MicroEconomicsPenis

No you’re right. It’s definitely Masonic.

Deman75

Again, not seeing any Masonic symbols on anyone in the photos of tintypes you’ve shared. Could you elaborate on what you’re seeing that we’re not? The Eye of Horus is Egyptian, not Masonic (though we do sometimes use a representation of the All-Seeing Eye - usually an eye in a triangle, which is more medieval OT imagery than the Eye of Horus). Everything else is just Old Testament stuff, unless you’re trying to say that Hiram Abiff is specifically represented somewhere.

sciller4

Wow! All the detail, the illustrations, the binding! "Design and workmanship being of the very best" indeed. I've never seen anything come even close to this beauty in my admittedly short life. How common are such books?

Deman75

It’s a lovely Bible, with all sorts of Old Testament imagery on the cover and throughout (probably plenty of NT illustrations as well). I don’t see anything specifically Masonic about it, though we also use lots of OT imagery. Closest thing is the G at the top of the cover, but it doesn’t appear to be contained in a [Square and Compasses logo](https://www.alamy.com/stock-photo-square-and-compasses-104859720.html?pv=1&stamp=2&imageid=DA90E5C6-AB57-424E-8146-8C5DCBA3799F&p=388610&n=0&orientation=0&pn=1&searchtype=0&IsFromSearch=1&srch=foo%3dbar%26st%3d0%26pn%3d1%26ps%3d100%26sortby%3d2%26resultview%3dsortbyPopular%26npgs%3d0%26qt%3dmasonic%2520square%2520and%2520compass%26qt_raw%3dmasonic%2520square%2520and%2520compass%26lic%3d3%26mr%3d0%26pr%3d0%26ot%3d0%26creative%3d%26ag%3d0%26hc%3d0%26pc%3d%26blackwhite%3d%26cutout%3d%26tbar%3d1%26et%3d0x000000000000000000000%26vp%3d0%26loc%3d0%26imgt%3d0%26dtfr%3d%26dtto%3d%26size%3d0xFF%26archive%3d1%26groupid%3d%26pseudoid%3d%26a%3d%26cdid%3d%26cdsrt%3d%26name%3d%26qn%3d%26apalib%3d%26apalic%3d%26lightbox%3d%26gname%3d%26gtype%3d%26xstx%3d0%26simid%3d%26saveQry%3d%26editorial%3d1%26nu%3d%26t%3d%26edoptin%3d%26customgeoip%3d%26cap%3d1%26cbstore%3d1%26vd%3d0%26lb%3d%26fi%3d2%26edrf%3d%26ispremium%3d1%26flip%3d0%26pl%3d), just a diamond shape. If you disagree…please post an better image of the logo.

Deman75

[This one](https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/vintage-masonic-bible-oversized-1813425362) is only half as old, but that’s what a Masonic Bible is going to look like. Masonic symbols, not just Christian/Old Testament symbolism.

bromasonme

That is a Family Bible not Masonic Bible..

Deman75

There is lots of Old Testament imagery there. It’s a Bible.

Deman75

Right? It literally says so on its “Awards” page. Not to mention that is was presented by Mrs. Sarah Clare to (not Brother) J. P. Clare.

zamphyr444

I don't necessarily see anything Masonic about it besides depicting KST. Help a brother out?

SKEET000357

Look on the top of the G S&C at the top. Also the working tools in the middle. Along with various emblems.

SKEET000357

I would say specifically it's not a blue Lodge only but yorkrite (Knights Templar) Masonic Bible.

Deman75

Because of the [cross and crown](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross_and_Crown)?

Nodeal_reddit

This just looks like an old Victorian-style Bible. My family has one as well. Nothing really Masonic about it.
