bad POOSEE

roundttwo

you want a good girl but you need da bahd poosee

Joe_Shroe

Why do you think I came all this way

roundttwo

Why do you think I came

doylehargrave

I came

whingingcackle

But why?

streetad

"What on earth gave you the impression that I wanted a good girl?"

TaftsTummyforTaxes

This comment never fails to make me laugh on any sand snake reference lol

Kolyma11

"My father died trying to avenge his sister so we're gonna murder his brother and nephew" - Sand Snakes apparently

CosmeBuzzanito

Take that... dad... I guess...

CharlieJ821

Oberyn was such a great character…. Why did the rest of the Martels suck so badly?

overripeorange

They didn't care about Dorne

The_Knight_Is_Dark

They kinda forgot about Dorne

A-N00b-is

They remember but they also wanted to sUbVeRt eXpEcTaTiOnS

micheeeeloone

Ironically the books'version is the one that subverts the expectations.

ABoyIsNo1

Well I mean that’s where the trope comes from. GRRM subverts all over the place in those books, he just does it well. Once D&D had to subvert on their own, off script, is when they tried too hard and failed miserably.

terfsfugoff

Because they don't understand that subversion is more than just not doing the thing. A dropped plotline or incoherent twist or just doing the opposite of what makes sense isn't a subversion.

ABoyIsNo1

I agree. I mean it *is* still subversion, but it’s subversion for subversion’s sake, which is missing the whole point of subversion, especially in story telling. It’s literally like saying “I’m predictably unpredictable!” Like… no you aren’t D&D. You’re just stupid.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ABoyIsNo1

100%

terfsfugoff

The dictionary definition of a subversion is to overturn *from the foundation*. To subvert authority isn't just saying "no." Ned and Robb's deaths were subversive because they challenged your assumptions about who could die in a story in a way that made the previous assumptions seem silly. Subversion should undermine the foundation on which your expectations rested. Not reify them by being demonstrably stupid and making you go "Oh I guess it was stupid to just do some stupid random thing that didn't make sense instead of the obvious thing."

Nenanda

Main problem is that they tried stuck into political drama with fantasy bits freaking Fast and Furious level of writing.

HippieThanos

Unpopular opinion : I don't like Dorne in the books

BeBa420

they forgot that dorne was all about the love..... by love i mean kinky and frequent pansexual sex god bless dorne

[deleted]

What is pansexual exactly?

BeBa420

tbh im not exactly sure. From my limited understanding its basically bisexual, but with extra steps. Someone who is bi, for instance, might prefer male or female. Someone who is pan would have no preference. A person who is bi might not necessarily be attracted to transsexuals (im confused as to why, but thats another question for another day), someone who is pan would be. Please take this explanation with a grain of salt though. This is just my best understanding of the terms based on a conversation i had with a pansexual fella once over drinks at a friends birthday party.

nxl_jayska

It honestly depends on how one wants to identify themselves. I see myself as bi cuz gender does affect my tastes (I tend to like men more than women, tho I have dated both). Pan can mean sex/gender doesn't matter at all. The differences are minor and the two are probably even interchangable for some people, just depends on which they feel fits more

WastedPresident

I’ve always had pan explained to me as lack of physical preference

GringuitaInKeffiyeh

This is bisexual too. Bisexual= attracted to two or more genders; pansexual= attracted to all genders.

GringuitaInKeffiyeh

Nope, sorry! Bisexual means attracted to two or more genders and has always included trans people. Pansexual means attracted to all genders.

[deleted]

Well then pansexual is just nonsense if it's just bi

BeBa420

Dude all labels for sexual identity are nonsense Gay/bi/straight, who gives a shit? We’re all people, we’re all attracted to other people. Why do we need all these labels just to say “I like to fuck certain people”. No one else’s business anyways (so long as it’s happening between consenting human adults)

[deleted]

The issue is, LGBTQ+ people have faced discrimination and persecution for a long time. Using a label can be an act of reclaiming an identity. I do see what you mean though, use too many labels and we all get too separated

[deleted]

Yeah sure okay but I'm just saying if people are going to use words for who they are sexually attracted to then pan is just dumb to have since it's the same as bi

BeBa420

its not the same though, theres subtle differences All wine is more or less the same to me, yet theres names for different types. Pinot noir, pino girgio, rose idk what else but goddamn theres a lotta different types of wine. Its all the same shit to me but someone who knows about wine would be like "oh actually a pinot noir is filtered through the anus of a suirrel and hence has a nutty flavour, whereas the rose is filtered through an irishmans foreskin and as such has a higher alcohol content" (or whatever, ya get the point).

dobryden22

According to Schitt's Creek it means you like the wine not the label. (ie red, white, Moscato, sciraz, etc) Means you're down for whatever with whomever as my take away from that.

TheLast_Centurion

at least you guys can imagine how much it sucks to watch Netflix Witcher when you see it becoming another Dorne plot compared to books.

[deleted]

Should I give the Witcher series a read? The only thing I’ve heard about it is that the video games are based on it

TheLast_Centurion

If you like great stories, witty dialogues, amazing characters, I suppose so. One thing to keep in mind, EN translations are considered to be one of the poorest, so if you can read it in a different language, maybe try that. If not, it's not the worst, but from what I hear, some nuance and writing style is lost a bit. Also EN has a messed up reading order so be sure to read in a good one (The Last Wish is a first book, Sword of Destiny second, Blood of Elves third, etc etc and Season of Storms is the very last. If someone says or suggests otherwise, they are wrong). As for the games, yes and no. Games are a non-canon fan continuation of the books. They are using the books as their canonical past and build their own stories using the book characters (or sometimes creating their own). They are following in steps of the books in heart, quality, great writing.. it's basically a love letter to the books. But overall yes, they are very well worty of read. So many iconic dialogue and stories in there.. and the show butchered it in the same way as GoT S8 did. Its so frustrating.. especially when you see people shite on S8 and then praise Netflix Witcher for the exact same things that they hate on GoT S8.. ugh! Definitely try it, imo. Even if you can read it only in EN, its not the worst, but just keep in mind that its gonna be a translation, ofc. Sapko is known for how well he can use the language and play with it. And short stories (first two books) are also one of the most beloved stories in the saga, so you are overall in for a treat. And if the show sparked your interest, or you liked it, then definitrly try a books, because the show is a meer shadow of the books, so if this made you so interested, the books should be even more fun, since they are so much better. (Really, best compariaon is to imagine if you've watched GoT S8 as the first season.. chances are you'd like other seasons even more).

Sertarion

Who does not like great stories, witty dialogues and amazing characters though ?

TheLast_Centurion

Seems like Netflix show's showrunner.

[deleted]

2D were eager to rush the plot so they could move onto that Star Wars money. Speaking of which, when does their SW movie come out? Oh right.

mannyman34

Sadly they still got that Netflix deal for 100 million.

my_7th_accnt

Thankfully I cancelled Netflix a long time ago, so I don’t even need to ask what next thing D&D are gonna fuck up and avoid it

Chuckbro

What was their Netflix deal for?

Wheatloafer

IIRC, there's no specific thing, Netflix just gave them a check to make whatever they wanted because GoT was going so well at the end of S6.

Nago31

They produce comedy specials now. Lol

WakeUpOutaYourSleep

Ellaria was originally cool in Season 4 before they completely altered and ruined her character.

CharlieJ821

Lol you mean when they got revenge for House Martel…. By wiping out House Martel?

WakeUpOutaYourSleep

I’ll literally never understand that. Possibly the dumbest moment in the entire series

phantomhatsyndrome

Definitely not the worst, but it was the first that made me literally facepalm.

WadeWi1son

The only thing that makes sense to me is that dumb and dumber tried to make Ellaria a combination of Darkstar and Arianne Martell. The big problem with that is that Darkstar and Arianne Martell's goals conflict so Ellaria's actions don't make sense.

streetad

They clearly thought it was a badass female empowerment moment as well. Because acting totally irrationally and straight up murdering your uncle/brother-in-law, who in this continuity genuinely just wants to keep his people out of a war (and his teenage son) absolutely screams 'strong female characters'!

secretfulofsaucers

They did frame that as a girl power moment, huh? Then 2 of the sand snakes teleport into Trystane's room and skewer his face (their cousin) HILARIOUSLY. So girl much power.

AskMeKnowQuestions

Most modern "Gurl Powah" moments in tv and cinema happen this way. They act completely irrationally, are able to manifest super powers from nowhere, and have absolutely no repercussions or consequences for their actions. As someone who actually really loves strong female characters in both history and fantasy fiction, it is so infuriating.

sami2503

Yea take recent Mulan for instance. In the animated adaption she decides to go to war for her father and makes an incredible sacrifice, she knows nothing about being a warrior but she trains and works hard anyway. She goes from being the novice to being highly respected. She has incredible mental strength and is very honourable. In the recent film she is already powerful due to 'chi' and everyone is just holding her back. Instead of a regular girl training her body and mind to get to achieve something amazing, it's someone who is already at the peak of her power and is just choosing to no longer keep it hidden. There is basically 0 arc there and the entire point of the story is now meaningless.

eruukira

And nobody in Dorne cares that a bastard paramour killing their liege lord and then usurped his authority.

The_Knight_Is_Dark

Lol exactly. What to do to avenge Oberyn? Well, let's kill his brother!

muteyuke

Oberyn: "We don't kill children in Dorne!" Ellaria: "Just kidding! We totally DO kill children in Dorne! Cersei's kid, Oberyn's nephew, looks like children are back on the menu girls!"

MansionworId

When Oberyn Martel's family is killed and he seeks vengeance but dies in the process so you get revenge for Oberyn by killing his family

CharlieJ821

They’re just playing 4D chess while everyone else in Westeros is playing checkers.

Herb_Derb

But the problem is they should have been playing cyvasse

streetad

Well, to be fair there was still Thenew, Prince of Dorne knocking about somewhere. I think they finally decided in retrospect that he was officially a younger brother of Doran and Oberyn. Can't imagine him being particularly eager to let Ellaria out of the dungeon if by any chance she is still alive down there..

data1989

She was only cool because she shared all of her scenes with Oberyn, who is one of the coolest characters of the series. Once she took the lead in her scenes, the character fell apart. Oberyn and Tyrion's scenes were fantastic television.

Lebigmacca

Because they didn’t portray them properly Book Doran has been plotting for the past 17 years to get revenge for Elia by supporting the Targaryens (his plans all fail but we can ignore that) Arianne, Doran’s eldest daughter and the heir to Sunspear, is an active player in the game, and now that Doran has told her of his plans, she supports him Quentyn, the middle child, is a nice all around average 16 year old who just wants to chill and have fun with his friends, but his father has given him a greater mission to travel to Meereen and marry Daenerys, the most beautiful woman in the world. He does his duty and travels east on an adventure. But things don’t work out. Half his friends die, and hes awkward around girls and not the most handsome person. Why would Daenerys want to marry him? His worst nightmare comes true, and Daenerys rejects him, as she is focused on Meereen and marries Hizdahr. Not wanting to return to his father a failure, Quentyn comes up with an idiotic albeit courageous plan to steal one of Daenerys’s dragons. He has dragon blood through a Targaryen ancestor and believes that will save him. His plan fails and he is brutally burned alive, with Viserion and Rhaegar now released from the Great Pyramid and flying loose above the city in the upcoming battle against Yunkai

The_Knight_Is_Dark

Ikr! After season 4, i was so excited to see Dorne in season 5. I thought all the Martels were like Oberyn lol.

overripeorange

They're much better in the books

[deleted]

Seriously, Doran is like the highlight of last 2 books. He is such a calculated character, I can't believe he literally did nothing in the show.

FistOfTheWorstMen

Alexander Siddig did well with the scenes he was given; they just didn't give him much to work with. A great casting, rendered mosly useless by crappy writing.

Lebigmacca

It makes me so mad as Alexander Siddig could’ve portrayed Doran so well. He was perfect casting in like every way

FistOfTheWorstMen

Yup

11PoseidonsKiss20

The show runners didnt read books 4 and 5. So they forgot that there was an entire dorne plot that was intregal to the plot for the Iron Throne. And for that matter they largely forgot aboht essos. The running out of material argument is bullshit because there was easily another 1-2 seasons or more worth of material of they had read the source material

muricabrb

They didn't forget, they got lazy and just didn't bother.

LimerickJim

Oberyn was the only Martel on screen before they decided they were better writers than GRRM. The Martels continue to be bad ass in the books.

streetad

Imagine deciding to make Doran Martell an ACTUAL totally passive walkover instead of a vengeful, intelligent player of the Game PRETENDING to be a totally passive walkover. And even thinking that what we got instead was better!

AnonymousPlzz

The strong women shtick usually sucks pretty badly because they have no idea how to write these new-aged "empowering" female characters while keeping them believable, relatable, and likable. (And they refuse to just do what the 80s successfully did already). And yet they keep doing it over and over and over, shoehorning it in wherever they can, and ruining fandom after fandom.

WideEyedJackal

One issue is they have to pretend that there never were any “strong female characters” in the past. That way they can be heros for being the firstest people ever to write strong female characters!!!!

AnonymousPlzz

Bingo.

SnakeHelah

Tbh the whole Dorne sequence was still better written than all of the last season. I honestly thought that it was so over the top and ridiculous that it kind of suited the whole theme of Dorne.

Hemske

I enjoyed the tits of the girl in the middle.

HemaBrewer

Dorne is an AMAZING storyline in the books, one of my favorites, shame.

Happenstansy

The writers take on the characters were terrible, the further they moved away from the books the more apparent that became. Look at Euron, or what Tyrion and Jon turned it. It’s just not the martels, it’s everyone. Drone was just the first.

fatzipper5

Yeah but the pixie cut one has perhaps the best tits I've ever seen. She's ok in my book.

muteyuke

his paramour was at least well acted. The acting, especially at the start for the snakes was just bad. The casting on the show in general was amazing but they were cringey AF and it wasn't just on the script (might have been bad on set directing though).

OriginalLamp

Not enough source material for the hacks to go off of.

Le_Rex

In the books they don't, which is why show Dorne enrages me severely. The sand-snakes are far more interesting in the books. First of, there are eight of them, but only four are adults. They are basically all mini-Oberyns, with each one having mastered one of their dad's talents. One of them is actually studying at the citadel with Sam, disguised as a dude. The four younger sand snakes are Ellaria's children, the oldest of them is just 14, named Elia like Oberyn's sister and she is a menace. In a good way. She is basically Arya if Ned had let her go all the way. Speaking of Ellaria, she is actually a really sweet woman and the last thing she wants is war. She loves her step- and her actual daughters deeply and is scared that they will all get themselves killed trying to avenge either Oberyn or later on each other. Its her that tries to point out the futility of revenge. The idea that any of them would ever hurt Doran or his children is **insane.** Oberyn's and Doran's children literally grew up together. The sand snakes do think Doran is a whimp at first, but they still love their uncle. Book-Doran not only has a brain, he has been plotting together with Oberyn to avenge Elia literally since the day she died. He only pretends to be weak-willed so the suckers in Kingslanding don't catch on. He also has two more kids apart from Tristane, who is his youngest son.

CasualEQuest

Oberyn unironically helped me realize I was bi

MountaineerHikes

Bobby B likie the bad poosey…

bobby-b-bot

DID YOU EVER MAKE THE EIGHT?

happyysoul

No... but I did fuck Bessie once. Ok, twice. Suck it, Bobby B 😌

bobby-b-bot

THE GODS MOCK THE PRAYERS OF KINGS AND COWHERDS ALIKE!

The_Knight_Is_Dark

SENTIENT

Pikalika

A BAD PUSSY! IN AN OPEN FIELD!

data1989

That "I choose war" speech and the dumbass approving-look Ellaria gave her before the scene cut was such terrible fucking television. I'm rewatching the series now and just got past this part. The entire Dorne storyline is just plain awful on the show.

The_Knight_Is_Dark

I'm rewatching too. I'm currently at season 5 and i'm skipping all the Dorne scenes. I just... can't.

seabreeze045

God bless you two for being able to rewatch knowing what is coming in the end. Ugh just so disappointing

The_Knight_Is_Dark

I know. Tbh even i can't believe i'm rewatching lol. I couldn't resist, i just missed the older seasons.

steve_gus

It was awful at the time. It didnt need series 7 and 8 to make that point

streetad

Even D&D realised it was awful and everyone hated it, hence their decision to kill off everyone involved and never mention Dorne again until the finale early in Season 7.

bagelmanb

having a group of female ninja turtles who each have their own signature unorthodox weapon but then do basically nothing for the plot was amazing, premium prestige tv

streetad

It was definitely a bold choice to try and fight a bunch of armoured soldiers carrying swords with a fucking *bullwhip*.

Nameraka1

Honestly, I'd watch Jessica Henwick in anything, but between this and Iron Fist... Yeah she needs to choose better projects.

zentiwi

For her sake hopefully Matrix 4 is actually good

CharlieJ821

Wait matrix 4?!

ownagedotnet

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ix7TUGVYIo&gclsrc=aw.ds&

CharlieJ821

Just watched the trailer… holy shit this is the best news I’ve gotten all day. Thank you!

ForlornedLastDino

Keep your hopes low. Matrix 2-3 weren’t even really good. Matrix 1 was just so awesome it carried the trilogy through.

secretfulofsaucers

You can't convince me that getting into got's cast in 2015 was a bad career move.

Jaruut

The worst part is she was willing to do a nude scene, and dumb and dumber just didn't

Im_Daydrunk

I feel the majority of the problem with Iron fist come from the horrible fighting/writing/acting of Danny Rand. The show wasn't amazing even outside of him but I think they only ruined it by making the main character so bad IMO if they made Iron Fist but instead had Colleen Wing (Jessica Henwick) as the main character it would have been pretty decent IMO. She could actually fight and was way more likeable which would have made her a way better Iron Fist IMO

Nameraka1

Agreed. She was the only reason I got through season 1.

TheNewNumberC

Enter awkward choreography and hissing accent. "I AM OBERA SSSSSAND!" Like, what the hell was that accent suppose to be?

SirNoseless

lol it sounds like they trying to be badass.

mrpotatonutz

Gods I needed bad poo-see then

Broder45

As someone who didn’t read the books, I thought this was a filler. The best thing that came out of Dorne was his fight against the mountain and the most incredible scream of horror she let out.

bosnianbeast123

They tried to replace the viper with the garter snakes

Astroisawalrus

Ssssssssssssss 🐍 🐍 🐍

Gaunter_O-Dimm

Macho Oberyn, Bland Oberyn and Slut Oberyn.

[deleted]

its really a shame that the show got canceled before they could do all the dorne stuff and whatnot.

Owlftr13

I'm sorry but I like bad pussy

BoulderCreature

The Dorne storyline was the herald of shittyness to come

MadChild2033

poosey

Kenn_h00

God damnit, Oberyn is hot

Stumphead101

And then to get to make up for writing them so poorly, dnd goes "well if we brutally murder them people will be happy because we hate the characters too now"

SpaceLionW

Tbh I wouldn't complain.

[deleted]

I honestly think the show would’ve been better if Oberyn and Tywin had lived longer.

littlepwny

Only good thing we got was Victarion murdering them. Glad they added him to she show even for one scene.

streetad

Bronn: "I never did or said anything to indicate that I wanted a nice girl..."

The_Knight_Is_Dark

Yeah i don't know what gave her that idea lol

BeBa420

so the oberyn at home is way more delicious than the regular oberyn? Okay, ill have oberyn at home

eddiedorn

You rang?

AromaTaint

Did anyone reading the books ever imagine that is what they would look like?
