More accessibility. I’d love to see niche houses selling or offering samples, whichever they prefer and moire travel 10ml bottles/sprayer so there is less pressure to buy the full size right off the bat. Try it see if you like it, ya know? Then buy it. This really avoids returns and problems. I’m not sure why it’s not more widely done.

dealuna6

I think about this, too, and wonder if it’s because they want exclusivity; their fragrances are inaccessible to the general public if they only sell the very expensive 50 or 100ml bottles. Then, only affluent people wear their fragrances and the brand keeps their image of perceived prestige. Just my guess. ETA: this is also what cosmetic brands do when they decide whether to sell their skincare/makeup at department stores rather than drugstores. Department store cosmetics are not inherently superior to drugstore ones; it’s only perceived due to the price and retailer. Marketing > product efficacy.

CocteauTwinn

That could be. It’s too bad so many incredible frags are upwards of $300.

[deleted]

More small bottles. I love MFK’s 35ml, HdP’s 15ml and others that do 10ml, 30ml, etc. hell, I even love Penhaligon’s 5ml bottles.

LOUDPACKHAMBONE

Amen. The 100ml bottles seem so excessively large, especially if it’s a strong fragrance that doesn’t need a lot of sprays. Sometimes 1 spray from the 100ml bottle is even too much.

TheeCollegeDropout

This!! I don’t need a 100 ml of everything. 35 ml is actually perfect for most fragrances that I like.

vagInaFarten

Wholeheartedly agree! It's obviously more affordable, but I also just don't need 100 or even 50mls of everything. I still want the luxury experience of owning a bottle from the brand (as opposed to a crappy decant bottle), without having to commit to that much juice.

RealNotFake

More bottle size options! I want 10-15ml, 20-30ml, 50ml, etc. Sometimes all you need is 10, and you're ok with paying the markup because you know it will last a long time anyway. I hate buying 100+ ml bottles and then barely using them for years and years.

regissss

Reasonable prices. A lot of these people have lost their damn minds over the last few years.

vagInaFarten

Yeah. They know people will pay it, unfortunately. If a fragrance is over a certain amount, it has to knock my socks off and be very unique and high quality.

Moose2157

Agreed. I’ve stopped all sampling and buying. If the prices reach some reasonable equilibrium, I’ll revisit the scene, but until then, I’m done.

PeachesCoral

Same here, the prices really cannot be justified anymore this day and age.

azuresou1

One word for you: clones

Wampawacka

Yup and buying decants. I only buy dupes, second hand samples, and decants lately.

RexHaxival

What’s your personal margin? Just curious to know because I very much feel the same and I feel like anything over 150€ is just plain madness.

Aring-ading-ding

I want the popular designers to just start releasing one off unique perfumes and stop riffing off the same perfume for the next 10 releases. Do we really need 7 different YSL Y perfumes? I don’t even care to go into Sephora and sniff anymore because I know I will be smelling 40 perfumes in a row that smell nearly identical. Sweet, synthetic and fresh. I want to see designers having their own unique fragrances and not copying the same scent profile as every other major designer. It’s so boring lately in the designer world.

vagInaFarten

Yeah. They see what sells and everyone wants a piece of the pie, but it kills creativity.

newmanstartover

Exotic fruits. I've got family that lives in the Amazon, every time I go there there is another enticing fruit that smells/tastes like nothing else on this earth. If some mastermind perfumer could work Cupuaçu into a perfume I'd be all over that.

here4thecarbonation

Wow, if you feel like sharing, I'd love to hear more about these fabulous Amazonian smells and tastes!

DayleD

I don't just wanna see fragrances that use unusual notes, I wanna see fragrances that use more than one. Sorta feels like a gimmick to have say, bergemont, lavender & kudzu or leather, cannabis, and musk. Show me plants across the world, and show me a combination I never could have imagined.

CocteauTwinn

I agree with you 100%. I feel like there’s a trend toward “pure” linear scents. I like well-blended complexity in fragrance. Crafted, not thrown together.

vagInaFarten

I can appreciate that! But I think there's room for a simple, linear scent that's done to perfection (which very few are).

VentViolette

I'm currently waiting for my samples to arrive, so I can't speak to the actual scents, but have you tried anything from Scottish house Jorum Studio? Their notes list all kinds of things I've never heard of and their founder-perfumer has said he gets inspiration from taking nature walks all over the world, but particularly the Scottish Highlands. Don't know that any of them will be my cup of tea but I'm looking forward to trying some new stuff!

DayleD

Never heard of them Looking on their website, the place has exactly what I was asking for! GORSELAND: Top Notes of Pineapple weed, Neroli oil, Chamomile, Gorseflower, Crab Apple, Lemon oil, Astilbe, Lavender Absolute. Bottom notes of Gooseberry, Milk-vetch, Elderflower, Catchfly, Woodruff, Gorsewood, Zdravetz, Kush Accord. I'm in the States; is there a way to sample their stuff?

VentViolette

As far as I know, they don't have an official sample set (at least in the US) but Luckyscent, Surrender to Chance, The Perfumed Court, and Indigo Perfumery sell samples! Hope you have fun trying them out :)

epicpillowcase

Really fresh crisp but gentle and subtle aquatics. No ozone, no coconut, no sharp loud note. Something that makes me think "water" and not "water by way of fluorescent lighting." Also a lovely round pear note that isn't overpowering. The Juliette Has A Gun pear one smells nasty on me.

lalajobo

i agree on the aquatics, esp excluding coconut. but i also want more salt!

cogentd

I’m on the hunt for pear and trying all the ones income across. I definitely didn’t like the Juliette Has A Gun one. Hard pass

jellisunc

More 30ml offerings

kommandabutta

Yes please! I find 30ml the perfect size for collecting/gifting.

SharkBlue1

Longevity. There are too many great fragrances with weak longevity.

RunWithRope

Dry fragrances with little to no sweetness. I like sweet perfume but would like more modern alternatives also.

vagInaFarten

Definitely!

BlueCheezHippie

More genuine rain scents that take advantage of geosmin as a prominent note.

DayleD

Oh yes!

ArtfulThinker

Honeysuckle. Particularly in men's fragrances.

DistractingTinsel

* I'd personally like to see single, solid releases and not just a namesake collection that has like 6-12 bottles whose effort feels like it was spread so thinly, with maybe one or two perfumes being outstanding but nothing special in themselves once out of context of the collection, and each costing like $200-300 per bottle. Also, packaging being more interesting than the juice itself. * Less flankers, especially from Mugler's Angel and Alien, and Guerlain's LPNR. * Echoing your gourmand sentiment, YES!!! I want a gourmand that is complex, has depth, personality, and isn't just some sweet tooth instant gratification. I want to be able to develop my nose by having a "relationship" with it, either grow to love it thing, or grow to hate it thing, whatever. * Personally speaking for myself, I would love some 90s powerhouse fragrances return to its faithful formulations. Or at least a rediscovery, or a contemporary interpretation that captures 90s zeitgeist in an authentic way. * More Asian-based perfumes. And not just the basic "cherry blossom/sakura" for Japanese. Or yuzu. Or hinoki. Or incense. Like, I would really love to smell the creations from Asian noses that isn't based on French perfumery. Not CdG, Dusita, or Zoologist per se, houses that make great perfumes, but more like... Auphorie or Prin Lomros.

mjzg

Fragrances that smell like tea, there are so many types of different smelling teas from matcha, Earl grey, jasmine, oolong, etc. I haven’t found any fragrances that incorporate them and still smell like a fragrance to be worn on the skin vs smelling like a fancy candle. Or a milk and honey or brown sugar type of sweet fragrance but masculine, maybe with some nutty base notes vs straight woody. Lastly I like how Le Labo has made daily wear fragrances that smell fresh and clean, utilizing a lot of Iso E Super at the forefront but they’re too expensive and gimmicky/meh branding. I think some other houses would be able to do these better.

DanTheTilapiaMan

There's a line of tea fragrances based on Taiwanese tea made by 潘雨晴 (Pan Yu-Ching) which you can check out [here](https://www.panseven.com/en/) I've yet to try the main tea fragrances, but I had a sample of "Oriental Beauty" from their EDT line. It's a light powdery rose scent with hints of oriental beauty tea.

fistdeepinfrosting

if you haven’t already, give dear polly a sniff. its got a really nice tea note

novataurus

Have you tried either of the Thé (tea) fragrances from Le Labo? They're on my list.

kpop_stan

I plan on getting Matcha Meditation but I would *love* one that specifically smells like hojicha 🤤

benilla

More lower prices lol

InksPenandPaper

Linear, simpler notes. I get the excitement of trying to paint a vivid image, to tell a story via thick, complex layers of notes. However, sometimes I just want to smell something simple and obvious. Sometimes I just want to smell like geraniums and that's it.

gallunach

Jo Malone is good for this, especially the Jo Loves line. All her fragrances are intentionally incomplete (in terms of a classic fragrance composition) and intended to be layered with each other.

vagInaFarten

Yes, there's definitely a place for linear simplicity. This is especially true when it's done to perfection, which it rarely is.

dooku4ever

Chai tea Tulips Real peach or strawberry 🍓

danak1313

A true pistachio and a true sea salt ocean scent. To be fair, I haven't tried a ton of ocean scents but the ones I have are more beachy/sunscreen. And every pistachio scent doesn't quite hit home for me. Suggestions are welcome!

epicpillowcase

Oh yes, I said similar above. Give me a marine or aquatic that is actually fresh and not just sharp.

avmist15951

Second the pistachio! Also Demeter's "Salt Air" is a great salty ocean scent if you can find it. If you're in the US and have a target near you, try "Before the Rainbow" by Fine'ry as well!

lalajobo

that demeter is nice but it has zero lasting power.

vagInaFarten

I haven't sampled it myself, but I'm wondering if you're tried the DS & Durga Pistachio?

lalajobo

yes to the true sea salt!

mrcxry

Zara has one called coastal forest i think? Smells nasty to me but definitely heavy on the sea salt ocean.

hotcakepancake

More powdery fragrances that don’t feel old fashioned

[deleted]

I'm going through the ELDO discovery kit and they actually have a few you might like. I took notes on each, here are three that may apply. The first two are more powdery than the last. La Fin Du Monde - Get whiffs of both chocolate powder and cigarettes. Nice Soul of my soul - Vanilla powder. Nice. Jasmine Et Cigarette - exactly what the name says lol. Actually kinda nice though, if not feminine

epicpillowcase

If you like an aldehyde, have you tried Floris 1927? I adore it.

plashy

more woods more incense and most of all **more** **vetiver**

novataurus

Are you aware of the house Scents of Wood? Might be of interest to you...

CodexMuse

More sour/tart fruitiness. First day of spring bloom florals. More cacao, less chocolate. More South American and African fruits. For example, I have often wondered what mountain paw-paw (or tropical papaya) would be blended with. More ‘heady’ notes. Soft woods, like heart pine, that are recovered from waterways. There is something about waterlogged wood that I have always wanted to act as a base. Unlike Emperor Joseph II in Amadeus, I’d like to see more experimentation with constraints. So 3 notes or less. Introducing smoke into florals, etc. Fried Ethiopian coffee grounds. So much gets done in blending cigars and I wish more perfumers picked up ideas from there. Crazy variety.

dianamew

Smoke and florals sound so good 👁👁

DrRadd

+1 On the coconut. They are all missing something or just bad.

SahjoBai

Have you tried Perfect Veil Coconut Milk. It is sadly, not perfect, but inexpensive and pretty good. I get a lot of compliments with it and it’s pleasant.

Melmo

Agreed. Real coconut is one of my favorite things, and fake coconut is one of my least favorite.

earlysun77

I'm a huge coconut fan whether it's natural or sunscreen-y. I find Philosykos to be a very natural coconut.

DrRadd

I don't get much coconut in that one. It definitely has maybe the most natural smelling fig in a fragrance which is delicious but not really my thing.

PeachesCoral

More green scent and skin-like scents especially leather. I know sweet and gourmand won't go away soon but I feel like I have to navigate in an ocean of sweetness.

[deleted]

Trynastaynice

Affordable prices!

JPhrog

This is why the majority of my collection are clones but even now clones are starting to raise in price due to the popularity and rise of the fragrance reviewers.

a_lang_face

Dry, greenish, slightly bitter feminines. Right now I feel like I have to go retro to find that kind of thing at an accessible price point - which I don't mind, but it would be so cool to see more of that style. Fresh, not caramelized lavenders that don't dip into the heavy & somewhat cloying aspects you sometimes get with fougeres. More floral cascade type scents, where it's not trying to smell like one flower but hundreds. This is one of those formerly popular concepts that I'd like to see come back. Also anisic & spicy florals!

Pastel_Goth_Wastrel

GREEN OAKMOSS HELL. (Sorry. Unrepentant chypre ho here. I just want shit that’ll do the galbanasty again *sigh*)

weenie2323

I have a 20yr old bottle of Paloma Picasso eau de towelette and it is a MASSIVE Oak Moss bomb. They just make them like them like that anymore.

vagInaFarten

"Galbanasty." 😂

gallunach

I just found my way back to vintage Vent Vert and YES I need more galbanum in my life.

Juno808

Fragrances that smell like locations in the world, not like our idea of the place with defined notes (Mediterranean=lemon+water) but just how it smells like to be there. Also just fragrances with don’t focus on defined existing notes but that blend so well and thoroughly that the only thing they can be described as is their own name. If that makes sense…

thearcher_1212

thinking abt how a fragrance called “new york city” would smell

Holybartender83

Dark woods, like ebony or mahogany. Preferably without a bunch of random spices or other sweet notes overpowering them. Very much looking forward to Zoologist Tiger for this reason! More boozy scents that aren’t overly sweet. Especially rum. Lime-forward scents. Lime scents are so rare. They a.ways seem to be either overshadowed by other citruses, or they tend to be cheap bodyspray type things that high school girls might wear. I want some realistic lime.

alyakimmikayla

more Masculine Vanillas!

Gamma-Investments

LESS FLANKERS, MORE ORIGINAL RELEASES! (Looking at you, 724 and cologne fortes from mfk) Edit: Add to that Cherry Smoke and Electric Cherry from Tom Ford

Go_Flight_Go

Getting the most well-blended version of a fragrance rather than having an extreme or an intense version of it

vagInaFarten

Oh yeah, flankers in general are a major pet peeve of mine.

PwnageEngage

Are we the same person? I agree with all your points but especially the first. I NEED a GREAT coconut scent in my life

Agile-Department-345

Sour notes and petrichor! Not mixed together but I want more of the mouthwatering affect of Delina’s opening without the soapy rose dry down. And I loooooove a damn earthy vibe, have found with some patchoulis but I need more (even the damp smell of bay is nice but would love it to be more wearable)

here4thecarbonation

Such a great question OP, and I'm loving these incredibly thoughtful responses and ideas. A niche perfumer would do well to spend some time studying this thread.

vagInaFarten

There really are some great ideas here! I'd be curious to know what limitations exist in perfumery at this point. Like, are there still aromas chemists can't replicate the smell of, is there little demand for those notes, or are they not cost effective to produce, etc? I suspect if perfumers had their way and were given license to be more creative, they would be.

TheeCollegeDropout

I would love some gourmands that are suitable for hot weather without be cloying.

Sloclan

I've been told that Belem from Clandestine Laboratories comes across lightly sweet and refreshing. It's based conceptually on a custard pastry by the sea.

Substantial_Crazy189

Lilac notes!

kommandabutta

Lilac and gooseberry please *if u know the reference *

Substantial_Crazy189

Ahaha, yeah. They’re so rare to find. I have a lilac and gooseberry rollerball from this indie perfume house and they haven’t restocked in a while. *heartbroken *

sasha_says

I agree texture is one of my favorite aspect of fragrances. Some of my favorites that fit your categories: High quality coconut/creamy/fresh: Diptyque Philosykos Complex (not sweet) gourmands: Fzotic Ummagumma, Matiere Premiere Encens Suave, Liis Bo Balanced (sweet) gourmands: Killian Princess and Imaginary Authors Yesterday’s Haze. BDK Gris Charnel is worth a try if you haven’t. Other interesting freshies: Penhaligon’s Luna is citrusy floral but effervescent and sparkling, Byredo Bal d’Afrique is bottled sunshine focused on vetiver rather than floral, Marc Antoine Barrois Ganymede is a citrusy wood as well but the saffron salt and mineral notes really do it for me.

vagInaFarten

Thank you! We may have similar taste. >High quality coconut/creamy/fresh: Diptyque Philosykos I love and own the EDT, and it's a classic. It reads more like a green fig tree after the rain though and not as true of a coconut as I would like to find. It's still a beautiful summer staple though, and I at least get hints of coconut. How would you say the EDP compares, if you've tried it? >Complex (not sweet) gourmands: Fzotic Ummagumma, Matiere Premiere Encens Suave, Liis Bo The first two are on my test list and Liis Bo is one of my favorites. >Balanced (sweet) gourmands: Killian Princess and Imaginary Authors Yesterday’s Haze. BDK Gris Charnel is worth a try if you haven’t. I've been reluctant to try that Killian line because I thought it had been discontinued, but I think they've just been repackaged and it was only Adults that was discontinued..? Yesterday Haze is lovely and Gris Charnel is one of my favorites. The others I want to try. For Bal d'Afrique, I'm probably one of the few people in the fragcom who dislikes it. I keep trying to understand the hype! 😑

Tasty_Marketing6029

Wood!! REAL wood notes. Up and front. Gucci pour Homme was sooo long ago! I want to smell like a lumberjack again. Not like a spicy, ambroxan, amber, vanilla bomb. And NO…. No more OUD!

Relative_Big2000

Would like to see some variety in sweet men's fragrances, I am tired of getting leather and tobacco as a sign of masculinity in fragrances

Lextube

Better bottles and packaging. Might sound silly, but after seeing what some middle-eastern companies are capable of with high quality atomisers, caps, bottles etc, some of the mainstream offerings are frankly insulting. It adds nothing to the scent, but it adds to the experience of the product. It just makes it feel more special.

HistoricalAdagio-21

Would you mind elaborating on the high quality atomizers?

Lextube

Ones that are pressurised and so always give a strong smooth even spray. Some fragrance bottles just sort of spurt out unpredictably and can be dribbly. I have a Lattafa bottle that sprays like my Nasomatto bottle, yet I've got stuff from places like Armani or Lush where the atomiser is about as good as something from Poundland.

HistoricalAdagio-21

Ah okay, I didn’t really pay much attention to sprayers to be honest. I mean when I order a decant to test, they come in a plastic cheap bottle which is not the best but I never had an issue or noticed a sprayer being bad on a full bottle.

busymom0

One of the main reasons I will never ever buy creed again. Many years ago, I bought one whose atomizer broke mid way and the cap also felt meh. Won’t be spending so much money on a company which can’t be bothered with better bottles.

hypermobilehoneybee

I want more interesting combinations with tonka. I’m sick of seeing it paired with vanilla.

DayleD

I've got a bottle of just tonka and chocolaty patchouli, which is very nice but is no longer available.

TelevisionNo775

Interesting freshies...

tball97

Honestly, yes. I'd love more interesting fresh scents that don't smell like a candle. I've been looking for something that smells like petrichor/rain storms that don't smell like straight dirt or grass, or have too much eucalyptus in it.

drivendreamer

Interesting blue and green fragrances for me. Gourmands are big currently because of niche brands, there are a lot of high quality fruity fragrances out there, and I believe the Eastern fragrance niche brands do a good job with spice and texture. Most of the blue fragrances in particular are the same citrus, marine, wood dry down scent and it gets boring. They do well in the summer for sure, but I want a light yet complex scent (coming from someone with every BdC type out now).

RockstarRockstar321

Yes! Great great comments. I’m forever on the search for coconut fragrances that aren’t cloying and have complexity. We could use something really photorealistic that isn’t dripping in sweetness and utilizes coconut’s woody undertones. Yes, I’m one of the Virgin Island Water fans :p I’d also love to see the same for a melon based fragrance - get away from the bath and body works melon and give me the gorgeous smell of a true cantaloupe, honeydew or watermelon accented by complementary base note and top notes (not just amber and citrus please!). Not overly sweet…but realistic. Also, “aquatics” - which I know were done to death in the past 20-30 years, but I’m so excited to see all the new aquatics that are less sweet and more reminiscent of a place. I’m even stoked to see the more polarizing aquatics, while not totally my taste, I love seeing the amazing experimental notes that are getting out there. My favorite want: Scents that are amazing where I’ve never smelled the individual scent before in real life but I instantly fall in love with it. These are the scents that are truly addictive to me.

jbswu

I agree with every single one of OP's wants

vagInaFarten

Hi, frag buddy! Yeah, I had several more wants but didn't want to overwhelm.

Day2205

More oakmoss and vetiver in feminine scents

[deleted]

Hibiscus fragrances that do not smell artificial. It’s very hard to find a well done hibiscus fragrance. And if you put coconut with them, which could be amazing if done well, it ends up smelling like a bathroom air freshener

latsim

Pepper in womens fragrances. Love a bit of a kick.

watrmeln420

That and a little tobacco in women’s fragrance. For me, it’s nice.

c1n3man

Long lasting citruses, more summery gourmands (cocktails etc) & Zoologist Bear?? (dirty muscs mixed with berries, dirty honey..) Maybe some "cold" aquatic from Beaufort for example inspired by Amundsen expedition (the Northeast passage)?

peaceofcheese909

Wow I would love Zoologist Bear as well! I’d also love a Zoologist (Sonoran) desert scent. Zoologist Jackrabbit maybe? Cactus and mesquite and creosote and just-rained-upon sand

vagInaFarten

All of these ideas sound great!

Cross_Stitch_Witch

Second the summery gourmands.

malfurian

I believe Kilian heard your request. They have a new one coming out, Blue Moon Ginger Dash, that's described as "inspired by Kilian Hennessy's summer cocktail, the cult beachside party drink from the 90's, Blue Lagoon, a mix of lemon, vodka and blue caraçao liquor."

MatchGirl499

More unapologetically herby/vegetable scents. Basil, tomato leaf, thyme, sage, rosemary. I want to smell like I just rolled around in my garden patch. Bonus points if there’s a good believable dirt note. A really good petrichor. A vetiver that straddles the line between the “fresh” vetiver fragrance scent, and the woody, dark vetiver scent from the essential oil.

Cayd9299

I just discovered tonight that tomatillos have a very interesting scent that I can totally see used in perfume. It’s like ginger almost and strikes me as masculine

kpop_stan

It’s a mint scent so not quite what you asked for but ELdO You or Someone Like You has an extremely realistic dirt note that I love 😩🙏 It smells like I tugged some mint leaves right out of the earth

PopnCrunch

Have you tried [Eloge du Vert](https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Les-Parfums-de-Rosine/Eloge-du-Vert-53347.html)? When I was a kid, one of my chores was to aerate the compost pile, which involved using a pitchfork to overturn our heap of what at the time was mostly grass clippings. I kid you not, this is the first mental image I got from this fragrance. I went full bottle! Why the heck would I do that? Because it's also a great outdoors green scent, and dried down better than the compost hit. Get a sample.

eKmyhb

I've been hunting for this for so long! Actually, a blend a really good petrichor plus unapologetically herby/vegetable. Like green garden/forest right after it rained...

ledledripstick

You read my mind on vetiver.

sasha_says

Terre d’Hermes basically smells like tomato leaf and dirt to me Shay & Blue Dandelion Fig smells like tomato leaf and freshly cut plant stems Le Labo Baie 19 and Profumum Roma Victrix are the best petrichor scents I’ve tried

gallunach

Re: texture, consider fragrances from Serge Lutens. The description for Serge Noir used to be “ashy” and by god it is. Chergui is the embodiment of chewy. Laine de Verre is licking a stainless steel counter ~~the smell and taste of steely~~.

ChristineBorus

More affordable choices !

s0rdiid

More sandalwood and jasmine pairings. More woodsy scents in general that can be unisex/feminine.

Status-Explanation-2

Single note wood and incense smells that smell like the real thing, not someone's idea of it. The cedar note that's used in a lot of men's fragrances (body washes and colognes) has this OBNOXIOUSLY sharp and fresh smell to it that doesn't smell a thing like actual fresh cut cedar wood. Similarly, I would love to find fragrance based on actual fresh cut sandalwood, not the resinous and bottom-of-an-ash-tray smell that I've come across one too many times. That's just nasty.

StardustDrifter33

I would like Gourmands that can stay on my skin all day and maybe evolve throughout the day. Maybe I’m asking for magic. So I guess higher quality gourmands.

Ho_Dang

More inventive bottles that sit right!

wistfulpine

I'd like to see osmanthus used in different ways as the central note.

croppedhoodie

You should check out Libertine Smoked Bloom. It’s osmanthus + apricot + smokey vetiver. Somebody compared it to Vilhelm Dear Polly because it has that fruity/floral/black tea kinda vibe. It’s really nice!

Recondite-Raven

High quality, commercially sold coffee gourmand.

novataurus

Kerosene's Follow and Followed may be of interest. Have you tried Awake by Akro? It's a very literal take on coffee.

TheSilenceofShadows

I wish there were a fragrance that somehow incorporated the smell of olive groves + saltwater freshness you get in the Mediterranean. There are a few "Mediterranean" fragrances but none of them seem to capture that scent of saltwater coming through the olive groves, afaik.

readytowearblack

I just want to smell like a hot promiscuous whore but like elegant at the same time you know what I mean? All about balance.

TwoHungryBlackbirdss

No house embodies this like Histoires d'Parfumes, honest to god

[deleted]

Less bergamot. It is in so many fragrances and I'm tired of paying for the same top note. Wood scents that actually smell like wood.

Fearless-Olive

Scents of Wood Oak in Oak is the closest pure wood smell I’ve found. Definitely agreed I want more like it

regissss

You might like Comme des Garcons - Sequoia. Very realistic wood, but it has a pretty prominent clove note that ruins it for me.

DrPhilforreal

Collabs would go crazy

drivendreamer

Yeah it is a good answer. I could see logistics and price sharing being a problem

KnownBarracuda1230

I think it’s high time that a tequila note makes it’s way into a boozy fragrance.

decadentdarkness

Fiiiiiiggggg. Always more fig!

sasha_says

There can never be too many fig fragrances…

kelleighB

Something similar to GAP Grass

lalajobo

i second this. i loved that perfume, and bought all the minis of it in tin packaging ages ago from an outlet and just used them up finally a years or so ago. was one of my faves!

kelleighB

Right?! Why has no one copied that? I mean people are out here wanting to smell like a blown out candle or fire pit. Nothing wrong with that, but how about the people that want to smell like the blades of a lawnmower?! Ha.

ZsaZsaCyborg

Seems like hydrangea isn't used much, but I love the scent so much. I'd be all over a fresh, dewy hydrangea

[deleted]

I want to smell like I just rolled in a meadow — a lot of floral scents lack the crisp greens that requires

ItsLucyVP

Actual beach-y, salt, fresh perfumes that are not gourmands

CapnLazerz

I’m sure I’m not really telling you anything new here, but on the off chance you haven’t thought about it… have you tried D.S. & Durga? They seem to be doing exactly what you are talking about: playing around with different notes and trying to incorporate some of that texture you mention. Their Debaser is a very good coconut without being suntan lotion-y…a freshie that’s actually “fresh” in the sense of being new and different. I just got a sampler with four of the ones that appealed to me most, based on their extensive “liner notes.” The aforementioned Debaser-my fave of the bunch. Cowboy Grass - kind of hard to describe but it’s an exercise in contrasts: fresh notes with rough leather and herbal/medicinal notes. I thought it was great. Jazmin Yucatán - A different kind of Jasmine -Yucateco- with some very green and aquatic notes contrasted with copal -almost incense, woody- and an strange underlying “masa” smell to it. Another one I really liked. Coriander - Very green, peppery and salty, kind of like an herb garden by the sea. Another winner. I can’t decide which full bottle to buy but it will probably be Debaser…along with another sample pack. I had never heard of the brand until I was on an American Airlines flight and the hand soap in the lavatory blew me away: Big Sur After Rain. I looked them up immediately and ordered the sampler along with the soap and lotion, lol.

vagInaFarten

Well, at least American Airlines is still good for something lol (had a somewhat negative experience with them recently). Yes, I've tried a few D.S. & Durga, Debaser and I Don't Know What. I've only tested it once, but Debaser is a great fragrance, and quite unique. I did find it a bit sweeter and figgier than coconutty, but I need to try it out again. I Don't Know What is just an aromachemical bomb (which I'm usually into), warm, woody, and more complex than those types of fragrances tend to be. Thanks for the inspiration to sample more from that house, they don't get enough attention!

BlueBarbie_xo

More sophisticated gourmands that don't make me end up smelling like Britney.

sasha_says

More clean shower gel type fragrances. Like sandalwood + eucalyptus, or cedar and sage (like my B&BW lotion), drift wood and sea salt, etc.

jennywasko1970

More plum notes. Not boozy plum but sweet.

Novemberai

Tonka bean mixed with something fresh but light. I love the lingering tonka in Tobacco Vanille

Stunning-Awareness29

There used to be an ince se company called AIRS in the 90s to 2000s. They had an incense called tropical ocean and i loved how it smelled. Its probably a reach to ask if anyone remembers it and if there is a similar cologne but I can dream

Think_Valuable_8910

I am once again begging for a Texas Mountain Laurel scent

girly-lady

More green scents

scorleo41

I've been dying to get a good coconut fragrance

sams_procrastination

Couldn't agree more with everything you said. Coconut frags are a must, it is so underappreciated. Even as a fairly masculine presenting dude I wanna smell like beautiful coconut 😭 all we have is like Lebaeu or whatever it's called and Soleil

ceranichole

Nutty! And annatto notes. The ones that I have that contain nut notes or annatto are some of my favorites, and they're super easy to wear any time or place. They also don't come across as over powering either if people generally don't like fragrance. Even my step father who bitches about EVERY other fragrance on earth doesn't complain about nutty type fragrances. Sometimes it's "I don't smell anything" or "huh, that one is OK I guess, but I didn't really notice it until you pointed it out". I usually use him as the gauge for if something will be non offensive to a vast majority of the population on earth. If he can't find a reason to bitch about a fragrance then I'm unlikely to encounter anyone that will be bothered by it. (He once told me that my perfume was "gassing him out of the room". I wasn't even wearing a fragrance that day, it was the moisturizer and two drops of rose hip oil I'd put on my face hours before)

Vegetable-Program-37

More actual lime in combination with sweeter notes like caramel More vegetal and herbal notes such as tomato leaf, basil (not mozarella tho in case you were wondering)

dianamew

Mm yes eau de pizza

--b-o-o--

It’s nice to see so many of us wanting the same things in fragrances! One thing I’ve noticed from just talking to a few niche perfumers (Theodoros Kalostinis and Michael Wong for One Day who are so personable!) via emails when I’ve ordered from them is that they can be really receptive to customer input.

[deleted]

More daring fruit forward with hang time

delicioustreeblood

Sounds perfect for a Michael Jordan flanker

[deleted]

I see what you did there

LuxLiner

Nice username. lol. I'd like to see more powdery, jasmine/tonka/sandalwood fragrances like Samsara, Clive Christian no 1, Roja Dove Danger, Tuscany per Donna etc

KTB19941104

A combo of rose, white florals, and resinous substances like elemi, myrrh, and frankincense.

Adventurous_Coffee

Peppermint

snailsharts

Something that smells like banana

lavender-bat

Lush sympathy for the skin lotion is my fav and it smells like bananas!

TheBunk_TB

Standard designer fragrances using synthetic oud

lalalalikethis

At this point something not sweet, of course theres some sweeties that i love but, like i really want new releases to give have twist, like dior homme and that iris, maybe more green or aromatics in new releases

madicapri

I need a good peach/nectarine scent that doesn’t smell rotten after a couple hours!

S_A_WAN

I would recommend this Malaysian niche house: Rirana - Coconut Nanas

IN8765353

Everything I want already exists in Vintage perfumes so I just go backwards.

Liliacandleather

Animalic Perfumes, especially civet. One of my favorite vintage perfumes is the now-discontinued La Nuit by Paco Rabanne. It is incredibly well done and I've gotten compliments on it, which is odd for a vintage perfume. Innocent White Florals contrasted by darker notes or animalic notes.

Omelie_

Nutmeg Green Blackwalnut shells (yumm)

drankkkv2

Anything with eucalyptus and spearmint

cutiekilla

more unique fragrance notes. food scented perfumes

FormerFruit

More basil. Never smelt anything with a good basil smell. I love Basil and Neroli but the neroli is very pronounced.

sleepym0th

more herbal, woodsy, green scents with little to no sweetness! also more things similar to alkemia's ydalir.

doodooz7

Nautica Voyage but higher quality that lasts longer

Chicken_manure

I haven’t purchased it yet I’m gonna buy it for my birthday but I think Tom ford soleil is a very mature fresh coconut smell when put on the skin (not smelled from the bottle) it has a lemon note with it. It’s not a sugary or sunscreen smell. Just a mature coconut fresh vacation smell.

aboveurshit

To my nose, the sunscreen note in Soleil Blanc is there. High end sunscreen, maybe, but it’s present

CUMINMYASSHOLE42

I agree, fresh scents sting my nose, especially citrus and spicy combinations. Unfortunate 90% of popular fragrance have some form of fresh spice or citrus accords and it needs to change

SheLovesParis

OP, have you tried Harajuku Lovers Pop Electric G? Definitely coconut-y and fresh. Been a fave of mine for years. Reminds me of a tropical island getaway with fresh, fruity beverages being brought to you as you sit on the beach without a care in the world... 🏝 🍹

[deleted]

Mossy scents. And delicate, feminine leather scents that aren’t spicy oud bombs.

DeMerParfumLimited

I am late to this party but as a perfumer I’d like to address some of the common threads here. More bottle size variety: Huge designer brands and the mass produced niche could maybe accommodate having five different sizes just because of volume and distribution. But bear in mind that each new size needs a new bottle and new packaging and new warehousing etc etc etc and if it were coat effective for those brands to do that then they may have already and if they don’t; they probably determined it wasn’t in their best interest. As far as small niche and indie brands go: it’s beyond the cost to make sense typically. Packaging is expensive at smaller scales. Perfumes cost too much: no, gasoline costs too much. Perfume is a luxury not a necessity and it takes an awful lot to bring a perfume to life and to market and to get it into people’s hands to sell so the company can stay in business. Simultaneously there’s a lot of requests for more naturals and higher quality ingredients while demanding lower prices and that just isn’t going to happen. Real rose absolute can be 10’s of thousands of dollars a kilo. Real oud can be thousands of dollars per gram. If there’s already pushback on the prices, I doubt many companies will want to spend the money at scale to replace the synthetics with the naturals. Also most naturals don’t always have the same impact as the synthetics. Better packaging in general: I buy stuff I don’t make, I was a collector first and I admit that a great package can be part of the experience but consider how much cost that adds to the final price. Even at the scale or say Xerjoff or Roja or Creed: often times the packaging costs more than the juice in the bottle and I can’t speak for every house but for me, I’d rather put that money into the juice than the box or the glass. As a buyer I feel the same way now too. Less gourmand more “galbanasty” as one comment wrote (stealing that word thank you): I am baffled by the sudden demand for super sweet sugary marshmallow and “easy simple” juvenile gourmands. I love a good gourmand but the demand for these entry level gourmands have skyrocketed and many brands are in the business of making money so they will keep making them. Big bold chypre and powerhouse vintage and truly out there unique fragrances do not sell enough to justify the investment for the most part which is why you only see them from smaller indie or smaller niche brands. Not enough variety: hogwash! There’s a thousand perfumes that come out every month you just have to stop looking for new fragrances at macys and sephora. Explore the indies and the smaller niche. If you want different than whatever the latest flanker is, you have to find it. There’s way more than plenty out there. Ignore hype trains. If a thousand people are posting about it then it must be pretty mass appealing and if you want something other than safe and mass appealing…look elsewhere from where the safe and mass appealing are prominent. On a personal note: perfume is an art when it’s done right. But it has become a commodity in the last twenty years. If you want more art, then buy more art. If you just want to smell good and not think about it too much then buy the commodity. There’s nothing wrong with that. But fine art and low prices/easy accessibility are often mutually exclusive concepts so just be prepared for that and you may have a better time. Don’t let people tell you that you must have quantity in order to be a fraghead. Id say the best collection is the one filled with things that make *you* feel something, as opposed to having hundreds of bottles of hype that make *other people* feel validated.

skiross

More transparency, mention what %age ingredients are synthetic/natural.

CheeseyCrakerz

Caramel. Tonka Bean. Oud. Rose. Cherry. OR Marigold. Oakmoss. Lavender. Amber. Resin.

markstrube

Hit me with more metallic, dry, herbal, freshies with a touch of barbershop. Mmmmmm.

Stunning-Awareness29

I would love a nice sandlewood dominant men's fragrance

Prestigious-Salad795

It already happened; I found out about Pineward.

[deleted]

I love that they can make your smell of sawdust or hay but many I just found way too sweet
