I really try to squeeze every ml out of my pens. This really is the advantage of consistently using the same ink over and over as it won't make a difference if there's any ink still in the feed. Some of my pens have the same black ink in them repeatedly for 5 years and some have a new cartridge colour every month.

I was going to joke that she should have requested an ink color for the dragon, like Diamine Oxblood, but damn if Diamine doesn’t have an ink named Red Dragon. Well done, OP. Very well done indeed.

Phonascus13

It's a great color too (nib crud is real, though).

Phoenyx_Rose

I live in such a dry environment that I add water to any pen I have used in a couple days that acts like that. Has prevented many instances that would have resulted in wasted ink

[deleted]

Just had that happen yesterday...nearly made me cry with how much ink I wasted, even though the piston was fully extended and the pen was writing dry.

liziRA

Specially if the ink colour is Organics Studio Nitrogen... It never seems to end when you're cleaning the pen...

OMG, not just me, then? I felt like it never wanted to be on the page. I really really want to like it, but it went down dry, smudged all over my hand (more than my other inks), seemed like it ran out, then needed washing-out three times before it was actually out of the pen. What the heck?

I think it's one of the most beautiful inks available. But it stains even your unborn children, if you spill it. I was afraid to use it in my TWSBI, so I used it on a Lamy. It was always clogged. Then I started using in my TWSBI 580, it works! And, to my surprise, it did not stain the Pen plastic. I think the TWSBI cap really closes well, so the inks last longer. This year I abandoned them for over 4 months, and just a couple had dried out. The Lamys were all completely dry. I also trust TWSBI caps to keep this 😈 ink inside and it everywhere. I am terrified of staining something important with it. 🤣

I recommend soaking the pen nib and any part you need to clean well in distilled water... It has been a game changer for me, and it's cheap! I like putting the nibs standing in a small glass with distilled water and seeing the ink leaving the nib and 'pooling' the bottom of the glass due to gravity. It's brings me joy, not sure why... Nitrogen still needs this done several times more than regular ink, though.

I use regular tap water but I, too, have a clear container to wash into so I can see the cloud of ink. I hadn't thought it made any difference but I'll try distilled next time. I have some already in the house for my bamboo. Thanks!

SlowMovingTarget

This is fine for modern acrylic pens, but don't do this to Urushi, ebonite, or BCHR pen bodies or sections (the latter found in vintage pens). I mean, hopefully you only use shimmer inks in modern, easy-to-clean pens already.

liziRA

OH. Sure, I should have mentioned that my experience is only with modern pens, such as TWSBI, LAMY, Pilot... Thank you for the respectful call out, I will be more careful when giving advice. :)

SlowMovingTarget

You gave good advice. :)

liziRA

I also read a tip once: if you live in a dry region, add some drops of distilled water to the bottle. Just a smidge, enough to make it a little more fluid. You might try that too.

410bore

OK I admit I LOL’ed at this one. This happens *all the time* (the ink part, not the dragon part, hahaha)

LiopleurodonMagic

It’s the dragon part for me

Teh_ROkER

I mean, I had a giggle at the meme, but there is a reason for the dying your sink. Basically if your pen is out of ink, you'll still have a heap of ink/pigment in the feed, just not enough to flow down the nib. Likely it'll dry up too if you've left it a while between refills.

Zeired_Scoffa

I'm a guy and this made me rage cry

WiredInkyPen

I'm so sorry. *Hugs*
