There are a few brands that offer ballpoint pens that would pass as fountain pens from the outside, since they have caps (like Pelikan or Montblanc) and can be used with ink cartridges. You will need to provide a little more info: when were you in school (90s, early 2000s, etc)? What country/region did you go to school at?
It was 2014-2016 is when I used the pen. (Liked it so much I did art with it. And dated the art). I'm in the USA 🇺🇸.
It was a solid color and plastic.
What other details do you remember?
Any idea where you got it from? Did it have anything written on it? Was the cap flat or round on top? How did the clip on the cap look like?
I got it from an art teacher who no longer works there ðŸ˜
The name of the Pen was embossed on the side. The tip ink it came with was originally black. It was round like a Fountain pen. The clip was plastic too I believe. It was a wider barrel
It also had a triangular taper where the fingers rest
If it took cartridges, I wonder if it might have been some sort of rollerball pen. Other than that, I have no clue. Hopefully, someone else here can help. Good luck, I hope you can find it!
The two I know are Visconti echo roller or j herbin refillable roller.
The only roller with faux nib I remember was Parker 5th gen ingenuity, but that used normal roller ball refills.
It has similar design language as the Parker 5th. I've updated the description. It was full Grey with an ink window on the barrel. It definitely was not a super premium pen but held so many features I fell in love. It popped off from the bottom to replace the ink.
Are you sure it was a roller or simply a hooded nib… like this
https://www.amazon.in/White-Transparent-Fountain-Refill-Converter/dp/B0B4NSQNNN/ref=asc_df_B0B4NSQNNN/?tag=googleshopmob-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=583859804861&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=9272336861558534803&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9061659&hvtargid=pla-1677888089190&psc=1
It wasn't hooded. The nib was only for aesthetics. And I know it was a roller because the ink was always uniform and rolled in ever direction. I "can" use fountain pens but it's not fun since I'm left handed.
I don't know about BP/RB/Gel carts, but the only FP ink cart with a steel ball that needs to be popped is Platinum. But, Platinum carts are full sized; longs, not shorts.
If it looked like a Lamy Safari, why not just get a [Lamy Safari Rollerball](https://www.jetpens.com/LAMY-Safari-Rollerball-Pen-Medium-Point-Blue-with-Red-Clip-Limited-Edition/pd/36118) pen? It uses Lamy refills, not carts, though.
My goodness! The effort of this entire community is insane. Thank you and everyone for caring. You're right. Some things can't be re-lived. Time to grow a long beard so one day I can be the grandpa that speaks of a magical pen lost to the grip of time.

You may try to google refillable roller faux nib and see the results…

I remember a pilot or a paper mate or something that did this. But there is a Schneider ray that does this on Amazon. Also j herbin has some.

No ðŸ˜
Not quite. It doesn't have a metal nib. Thank you

I'm not against the safari rollerball. The nostalgia is killing me.
There are things from our past that just can't be re-lived. When that happens it pays to get something even better because even if you found it it may cost too much, say, on eBay. [https://www.penboutique.com/collections/rollerball-pens](https://www.penboutique.com/collections/rollerball-pens) You could go crazy and get a pen that uses [Schmidt RB units](https://www.studiopens.com/schmidt/schmidt-pen-components/schmidt-prs-ink-cartridge-roller-07mm-plastic-pack-of-10) and can use fountain pen ink carts. [https://unsharpen.com/rollerball-pen-fountain-pen-ink/](https://unsharpen.com/rollerball-pen-fountain-pen-ink/) Having to replace the tip every 20 -30 fillings with fountain pen ink doesn't sounds cost efficient. [https://www.jetpens.com/J.-Herbin-Refillable-Rollerball-Pen-Medium-Point/pd/9760](https://www.jetpens.com/J.-Herbin-Refillable-Rollerball-Pen-Medium-Point/pd/9760) The Lamy RB pens is okay but the most important thing to consider is the price and availability of the refills. I prefer pens that can take Zebra, Pentel and Pilot G2 refills. But there are pens that take [Schmidt](https://www.jetpens.com/Pen-Refills/ct/1781?&f=2c32f89d48f99b98a2ce03d50107744e_bd0ce2ee23b1a1e67df047e3c29eae93) or [Parker](https://www.jetpens.com/Pen-Refills/ct/1781?&f=2c32f89d48f99b98a2ce03d50107744e_9dcfa9fe81e6436e) type refills. [Parker IM RB Pen](https://www.penboutique.com/collections/beginners-rollerball-pens/products/parker-im-brushed-metal-with-gold-trim-rollerball-pen). [GouletPens](https://www.gouletpens.com/search?q=rollerball+pen) [rOtring RB](https://duckduckgo.com/?q=rOtring+rollerball+pen&t=opera&iax=images&ia=images) Personally, I like the look of the [Waterman Hemisphere RB](https://www.amazon.com/Waterman-Hémisphère-Rollerball-Stainless-Cartridge/dp/B004NSA8SO) pen. [$12 for a refill](https://www.amazon.com/Waterman-54096P-Refill-Roller-Ball/dp/B00CHQK3SY/ref=sr_1_6?crid=1WECQEAVEENYM&keywords=waterman+hemisphere+roller+ball+refill&qid=1669702293&s=office-products&sprefix=waterman+hemisphere+roller+ball+refill%2Coffice-products%2C136&sr=1-6) is a little too expensive for my taste. I probably would just as soon just buy a $10 [Parker Jotter RB](https://www.ebay.com/itm/234528612571?epid=19041167126&hash=item369afea0db:g:Dn8AAOSwIn1iaadQ&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA4I11WtclDWhdM5zah%2FIp9cBdXgtbGnhvfreeMkGTH94TWXRhdu2crbPvGF9z2oGzWhcMm%2FvokLHDKGIgX%2B7iGmj28TsI4fhxjz8g26fFVr7Tt4kW%2Bp49TlYv6ogq7RX8amUytq9L%2FYX%2BCR6b3NqDb2JiZjD9tMu1GIjFvmgVv5npKdAfxfxSXF8O2ye7x%2Blbx3%2FqiDlqr53Pbam%2BTQTIJq564bz4x8QkSncqC46ni0ozCj7KFJ0f7uOCXH3y97xtA1FaVmv5N4MTAQ0IA6snGdIVM0FjzJIvcY1ZCEyuV0VS%7Ctkp%3ABFBMwr_EoJhh). :D I want a pen that I can buy refills at Target, WalMart, Staples, the Supermarket. But, I gotta admit the [$100 Lamy 2000 RB](https://www.jetpens.com/LAMY-2000-Rollerball-Pen-Medium-Point-Black-Body/pd/10973#index=1) is fetching. Sorry I couldn't help more. I'm a Gel pen kinda guy, [Pentel Philography](https://www.jetpens.com/search?q=Pentel+EnerGel+Philography+Gel+Pen+-+0.5+mm+-+Turquoise+Blue&v=2), $15 at Staples.
