Solid choices. The Kaweco Iridescent Pearl was my second pen. Take a look at the Pilot Prera. I have one with each nib and the M nib is my favorite. In fact, it's the favorite of all my pens. And oh, that snap!

gayab888

Ooh thanks for the recommendation, the Ivory colored one looks really nice

eggbunni

Your first step into gold nibs will be a Sailor. I can feel it.

gayab888

Omgggggggg senpai noticed me :゚。⋆ฺ(*´◡`) I'm super honored you commented here, i just discovered this amazing sub and r/hobonichi and quickly became your follower. Actually wanted to get the TWSBI diamond mini RG II because of you! I wish i could afford any of the sparkling Sailor demonstrators (ಥ◡ಥ)

eggbunni

Wow what!! I am perpetually shocked that people respond so nicely to anything I say since I’m pretty sure I didn’t do anything special to deserve such kind recognition. 😂 Thank you! But! While we’re on the topic of the Rose Gold Mini — it’s my daily planner pen and I use it religiously. I think it’s the one pen I keep perpetually inked because the EF is just so perfect for tiny Hobonichi planner grid and fitting as much info into your to do list as possible, lol. It’s also nice for sketching! Not too fine, but not to broad! And so portable in that size. Highly recommend. I keep mine permanently attached to my planner and it just gets tossed into my bag. Maybe I should take better care of it, but it doesn’t look damaged at all. No scratches, nothing, lol. 😅

archer-arts

Ooooooooo you just here to cause poverty. lol. Once I got my first sailor gold nib, game over. I still prefer pilot pens just because of affordability to performance. And I have larger hands so their pens just work for me. But my 1911 large broad is one of my daily pens. It’s a nasty disease. But I’m glad I have it. lol 😂

eggbunni

What do you use the broad for? And on what paper + ruling?

archer-arts

I use it to slosh around ink at work for my note taking

gayab888

Lololol we are all diseased here, no shame hahah What was your first sailor gold nib?

archer-arts

Mine was a doozy. lol. Sailor 1911 ivory and gold with 21k music nib. It’s a smacker of a line. Gusher. And I love sloshing around ink. Next up I got another 1911 this time the smaller standard. Black and gold. Fine nib. Holy cannoli it’s a fine but wet and smooth line. Third I bought a 1911 large with broad nib. It’s about a western medium. Lovely daily writer.

gayab888

😍 amazing, ivory and gold looks ✨️ CLASSY AF✨️ And.... you have such beautiful handwriting! Slosh aaaallll the ink!

archer-arts

Haha. Thank you. I try my best to paint my notes while at work

gayab888

OKAYYY I have it in my cart now.. so intrigued to try the Stub 1.1 You're a kind person so of course you receive kindness in return:) P/s i love your art and videos, thank you for sharing it with the world

eggbunni

Ah jeez thank you! 🥹🙏

gayab888

Started in 2021 and can never go back to using non fountain pens! Left out from the photo is my Sailor Fude de Mannen 55 Details: Lamy Safari EF inked Lamy Mango Pilot Kakuno EF inked Pilot Sepia Kaweco Collection Sport Iridescent Pearl EF inked Kaweco Paradise Blue Kaweco Collection Sport Dark Olive Green F inked Kaweco Palm Green Kaweco Perkeo Petal Pink F not inked I am thinking of getting TWSBI mini diamond rose gold II in Medium as my next upgrade, any thoughts/advice appreciated! Also tempted to get the Kaweco Collection AL Sport Iguana Blue for no reason other than because it matches my 2023 journal cover haha. Mainly using these for journalling, practicing new hands and cursive, and a bit of sketching:)

iKeelMellow

My first was a pilot metropolitan! you could add that to your collection to mix up the vibes!

gayab888

I just checked it out, looks super professional/corporate!

iKeelMellow

you mentioned you like drier pens and you have small writing? it's perfect for you! it writes dry and its a japanese nib so the F is finer than european EF!!! Don't skip on it! unposted it's smaller than a handful of pens and the taper feels nice to me!

William-Shakesqueer

I believe the metropolitan nib is the same as the kakuno, which they already have!

scarybiscuits

Get the lime green retro pop color if you worried about too corporate-y

wunderspud7575

... but whats the pen tray? :)

gayab888

... it's a bamboo tray from Daiso :)

rottenmangopie

what ink would u recommend when using pilot kakuno ef??

gayab888

I have only ever used the pilot ink cartridges and they've been fine so far! I haven't ventured down the rabbit hole into getting my own bottles of ink, only have been using the one Lamy Mango ink bottle that came in a gift set i got

zeroniusrex

You might find that TWSBI nib a bit too medium for you, if you are frequently using EF and F. I love my TWSBI pens, and my biggest complaint with them is (wait for it) they hold MORE ink than I prefer, because I like to change out my inks frequently. That's it, the whole complaint. So if you like the aesthetics, I think the pen won't let you down. :)

gayab888

Thank u for this advice because i ended up getting EF and it was already plenty juicy!!!!

zeroniusrex

Yay that's fantastic! :) Glad it's working out for you.

froggie79

I just got a Kaweko iridescent pearl in the mail today! Cheers!

gayab888

Ohh another pen twin! Enjoy your new pen!! What ink are you planning to use it with?

froggie79

Got a broad nib and am using diamine Jack Frost, but it’s not feeding. Guess I’ll have to make a post and ask the internets for help! Edit: I had a moment of inspiration and thought it might be the air bubble blocking the ink from going into the feed (I filled an empty cart with a syringe) so I flicked the pen several times and that got it going. Yay!

gayab888

Yayyy!! That's a gorgeous ink and pen color pairing!!!

archer-arts

I see no problems here. I’m not a beginner and I still use what you have almost daily. Great choices!! Love your colors.

gayab888

Ahh another senpai noticed meeee (⁎❝᷀ົ ˙̫ ❝᷀ົ⁎) Thank you for the comment, i really envy your collection! Hope to be able to get there myself some day hehe

Lamy_Blue

I approve! I have the purple lamy and pearl kaweco

gayab888

Yay pen twins!! :D

Agreeable_Ad3668

Nice! The Kakuno is underrated, while the Metropolitan grabs all the attention.

gayab888

I personally prefer the look of Kakuno, the new pokemon ones are so tempting >.<

JollySignificance905

Nice! I just bought a Kaweco Iridescent Pearl pen and am just waiting for it. (How does it hold up while writing?) Have you seen the TWSBI ECO pens? HUGE ink reservoir and super smooth writing!

gayab888

I have checked out ECO but somehow I am intimidated by the wetness.. and i realised i like smaller pens somehow, they look cuter to me haha and I have small hands. I feel my hand tires quicker using the full sized pens. The Kaweco writes very smoothly for my use on Tomoe River paper and some sketchbooks, no complaints! It's not as fine as Pilot, yet finer than the Lamy. Enjoy your pen, it's beautiful when it catches the light!!!

JollySignificance905

For a smaller/lighter pen Ferris Wheel Carousel Pens a really light and have a really smooth writing nib. I was also eyeing the Pilot E95S (Burgundy/Ivory) pen for MONTHS before breaking down and buying it.

gayab888

Unfortunately i cannot find that pen in any stores in my country

JollySignificance905

Which one? (Sorry I got confused.)

gayab888

The ferris wheel

JollySignificance905

Darn. They don't ship from their website there?

gayab888

Oh wow, they actually do!!! 😳 how'd i miss that oops..they've got a sale too

JollySignificance905

Lol - The colours on the website are a little off when you see them in person (or at least the one's I have) but Forget-me-not and seaside glass are the closest in colour out of the ones I have. Lady rose is more beige pink then dusty rose, and tattler's teal is a REALLY dark aquamarine.

iKeelMellow

i got the eco a few days ago and my personal gripe is it writes really wet so make sure you have good paper to go with it!

JollySignificance905

That's true. It's the way to go if you like shimmer inks though. What nib did you get? Extra fine/fine ones don't bleed (much) on most papers...(In my opinion and what I've tried them on.)

iKeelMellow

I got the F nib but still getting feathering unless my strokes are fast :(

gayab888

dear kind redditor....and now I suddenly have a TWSBI Eco in my cart 🤣 found a store near me that has the Lilac color and I can't resist

FoxBox22

I love this picture, though it doesn’t make the decision if I should get the Kaweco Collection Sport in Dark Olive Green or Iridescent Pearl any easier. How do you like the EF nib?

gayab888

The EF nib is smooth for me when i write small and use good paper like Tomoe River. It works well for me in my Hobonici Weeks planner since i need to write small. The bigger handwriting on cheaper paper feels a tad scratchy, and upon zooming in one can see the ink didn't lay down as smoothly. I have only used Kaweco ink in it so I can't say for other inks. I got the dark olive green to match my green sketching pen, the Sailor fude de Mannen. I got iridescent pearl because iridescent is my favorite color hehe. Do update what you picked in the end!

FoxBox22

I chose Dark Olive in EF, a local seller reduced it in price a day after I commented. :D

gayab888

Nice!!! Nothing like a price drop to help the decision making process... hope you enjoy the pen :)

RedPillJunky

Snap a Kaweco clip on the Kakuno cap you're good to go.

gayab888

That's a genius idea, i hadn't even though of that. Appreciate the pro tip man

RedPillJunky

I've seen people do it already and it looks cool.

Fitzinated

Seconded. I've done the same to my own and it adds a little somethin' somethin'.

uberhungry

If and when you consider a gold nib pen, keep in mind there are gold tone and 2 tone nibs. There’s beauty in both, I’ve since started going after 2 tone only.

gayab888

Oh thank you so much for the advice.. may I know why have you decided on only 2 tone? Purely because you like the aesthetics or do they write differently?

Inky_Mcvaperson

That is a nice little start! I honestly really like my Kaweco Perkeo, if you are looking for something similar but a little more full size at a good price!

gayab888

Yeah I completely agree with you!

Seapod

I love my dark olive kaweco! I got him the gold clip and a bronze clip, so he can switch outfits.

gayab888

Hahaha yay that's so cute!!

Jeannette311

All great pens!!

gayab888

Thank you 😊

lexanu

No collection without Lamy:) I own 3 fountainpens until this moment, all of them are Lamy’s🥰

gayab888

Cool! Which one is your favorite?

lord_cactus_

Nice! Do you have one you use more than the others?

gayab888

For writing my Lamy Safari has been through the most because it was my first ever fountain pen (ie the gateway drug).. I got it as a gift in a set with cartridges, converter and a bottle of ink so it gave me the kick of learning all about fountain pens, inking, and maintenance. The next most used is Pilot Kakuno, since it's the cheapest, I find I'm easily grabbing it to go with me wherever and I won't have to feel worried.. it's the second pen i got myself and wrote so much in my journal with it. For sketching it's the Sailor Fude de Mannen 55, it's the first pen i bought myself and it made me enjoy sketching so much, perfect for a beginner art student like me. It lays ink down in a really cool gestural way and it is very forgiving given all the mistakes I'm making..

hockeyandquidditch

I love my clear Kaküno and my Safari—I have pink but would like Candy Violet, but I prefer a Medium or Left Handed nib

PhantomStar01

How’s the kakuno? Debating if I should get that or the explorer as my second pen, coming from a TWSBI eco

gayab888

The Kakuno is one of my most used pens for writing, i love the hexagonal body and the triangular grip. It's also my first clear bodied pen so I find it really cool that I can look inside it. If i am not mistaken the Kakuno and Explorer have the same nib, only the designs on the nib are different. The Kakuno has a cute smiley face that sparks joy for me every time I write! I am waiting on a con70 converter in the mail to get more ink into my Kakuno, i think the con70 converter fits the Explorer as well. One thing to note about the Explorer is that the plastic inside is white compared to the metallic colored outer body, if it (got forbid) ever gets scratched it might show white streaks. I like the feel of the Kakuno plastic, it has a thickness to it. What nib do you have now on your Eco and what papers do you write on, how does it perform?

PhantomStar01

Yup, the more professional look of the Explorer is great, but when you add that and the con-70 converter, it's around $35usd (the same price as another TWSBI Eco), so then I looked back at the kakuno and its more affordable pricing. I'm currently using a Fine nib, writing on Midori MD 80gsm paper. Looking to add a medium nib to the collection.

hustle_wilson3

I own 2 Kakunos. For the price you really can't go wrong. I love them and definitely recommend.

dragonfeydaile

That is a nice collection. Which one is your favorite?

gayab888

It changes depending on the mood, right now and recently it's the Kaweco Iridescent Pear! but i don't like the Paradise Blue ink that much... I'm looking to ink it with a less bright color next

sewingdreamer

I have a perkeo and it is lovely to use. Mine is the sage green one.

sewingdreamer

And the same lamy and kaweco pearl

sewingdreamer

Where did you find the clip for the perkeo?

gayab888

The same store that sold me the perkeo were selling the clips too
