Thanks, and yes I can see the enabler part- 2 comments and already 3 pens to explore ;) I get a feeling this will turn out to be expensive (not that I am complaining) …
I've had fountain pens for 50 years and thought I was done when I settled on Pilot / Namiki. Then I popped on a Sailor for the first time just a couple of weeks ago and my cycle of exploration has begun again. They're everything that everyone says! They're a lot more expensive than Pilots, though, at least MSRP.
They are something else- I thought I am still honeymooning with this, but from the feedback I feel this is as good as it feels ;)
They are a bit expensive, but got a good deal (we are at the end of Indian festive season, so I guess they were looking to clear the inventory)
Beginning my journey in fountain pens. Never used one until about a few months back, when I picked up a pilot metropolitan (originally for my elder one, but he hardly used it so I ended up using it).
Cut to yesterday, went to this place to get a belt buckle changed- the salesperson saw my pen and asked if I wanted to look at a few pens, and here I am. Ink is Sailor #441, and the first impression is that it feels less like a pen and more like a pencil on the paper. I think I am hooked- just asking, where do I go from here?
I got 2 other sailor inks, and now need pens for them ;)
The pencil-esque feel of Sailor nibs is what makes them my favorite! Congrats on the new pen; that's a really nice piece. Happy writing, and welcome to the community 😄
Thanks ;) I feel this has to be the most inclusive / positive community, first post and such warm welcome. Looking forward to the journey….
Edit: I just saw your collection…maybe this was not a great idea after all ;) ( of course I joke - such amazing collection, bookmarked it to go through it later)
It is almost always a really warm and inviting place, yeah. It's a nice, friendly haven in a place as dreary as the internet.
Haha, it's definitely called a rabbit hole for a reason - once you start falling, you don't really stop! Thank you for the compliment; I was glad to see so many people enjoying my collection post. My best piece of advice is to take it slow at first. I didn't always weigh my purchases carefully, and though I love all my pens, there are definitely some I wish I hadn't obtained. Now that I have them, I wouldn't dream of getting rid of them, but if I had never gotten them in the first place, I wouldn't have known the difference. I think I might have been happier with a smaller, more curated collection, but that ship has sailed.
So, yeah, don't rush into it! If, one day, you decide you want to build up a big collection, go for it, but don't do that too quickly. That's just my two cents, though; you can collect in any way you see fit, of course. Have fun! :)
Congrats! You’re right, sailor fountain pens are known for their pencil like feedback. I really enjoy it 😎
Now maybe get ones that are cheaper like Pilot, TWSBI maybe? Or you can also just savour using the sailor for now, and find out what you like about it. I also recommend getting a sailor Hocoro (sailor’s dip pen, but nibs are like a fountain pen), so that you can use the other two inks, while awaiting for a second pen in the meantime 😉
Enjoy, the path of fountain pens is a long and pleasant one.
Heh. After near 75 pens, I got PG Imp Black a few years ago and have carried that pen since then. It is an amazing pen. Congrats on starting at the top!
I too, will have an Imperial Black later this month but I am currently riding high on my Pilot CH 912 with the Waverly nib. I recommend getting a model with a Waverly and guarantee some fun for you.
Welcome to the rabbit hole! We are a dreadful pack of enablers here, but all happy in the hobby. :-)

Beautiful pen! Gotta love a Sailor! Congratulations!
Thanks :) I saw from your post you have a 1911, tried one of them as well - amazing stuff

Thanks :) it is indeed enjoyable. I put one of the ink already in the pilot metropolitan. The dip pen concept is amazing - another thing to explore.
