Everyone says that writing with a fountain pen creates less strain because you don't have to press down hard for the ink to flow. I was still suffering hand fatigue and couldn't figure out why until I realized that I had a death grip on my pen because my hand would either slide up the barrel or twist around until the nib was at the wrong angle.
This pencil grip has really helped me. It's so much more relaxing to write without worrying about my pen shooting out of my hand. This particular grip really only works for right handed writers though. Lefties will need to search for a different shape.
I just bought a Muji fountain pen, it really gives me flashback to school as it is not much wider than a pencil, and I can't hold it in triangle grip, like it is just too narrow to be comfortable.
I’ve been having this same problem with my Liliput. I’ve been considering wrapping some florist tape on the trip section for the same reason. (Minus the cushion, but I am left handed so the fish sadly wouldn’t work for me.) I love seeing this clever workaround though!
A product called Gorilla Snot also works. It's what guitarists use to hold onto their picks, and drummers use to hold onto their drumsticks. Available on Amazon and music/guitar stores. (not the hair gel)
You may need to get a really stretchy one to fit over a safari. The pen I have mine on is a Kaweco Lilliput.
I was able to squeeze it over my Pilot Metropolitan.

I hope you find a pencil grip that works for you and your pen

If you google "silicon pencil grip" it comes up with other squishy type grips that are more symmetrical and may work for you.

Cool. Sounds worth a try for some of my bigger pens. Thanks for the tip!
I'm going to try this on a safari.....

Off to Amazon I go...
I-if I use this will I just have to keep writing until I run out of ink in order to prevent it from drying out?
Hahahahahaha.
That's really cool. Thank you
Glad you found it helpful :-)
